We always able to book their service in a very reasonable time. And we just got them to service and maintenance the system. The tech that came is professional and totally on time (right at the door by the minutes, how rare is that in this business). I called Ability for AC maintenance service since they had many positive reviews on yelp, and they were located close to our home (didn't want people to travel very far especially during COVID). We have not had the main Carrier unit looks at since we moved in 9 years ago, and thought it's about time. James was a delight: super cordial and easy to talk to. He carefully tested everything and discovered the blower motor in our attic was leaking oil. James explained clearly what needs to be done, and did not push us into making any decisions (we did have the motor replaced). I called a week after the July 4th weekend and was able to get an appointment within a day. They did an amazing job checking out my aging centralized system and only recommended what was really needed. Luckily they found a capacitor that was nearing the end of life and was able to test it for me to show how it worked. We moved into our Arcadia home in 2004 and hadn't had the A/C serviced since then. This past Saturday, I cleaned the coils myself and the A/C ran for a few hours afterwards then just quit :( Hence, no A/C for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and 1/2 of Wednesday. The receptionist at Ability was terrific. Very personable and customer service oriented. I might hire her... you've been served. Joey from Ability arrived on-time and identified and repaired our problem, which I am responsible for, in under 15 minutes. Very good. On a side note, my wife who was at home at the time, shared with me that Joey attempted to charge on additional $45 for labor which she questioned him about. After some discussion, the $45 uplift was waived. All in all, we are happy with our experience with Ability except for the incident described above. read more

Updated review: This year our A/C unit went out again and we called Ability, because of the great previous service. This time, 1st technician was supposed to arrive between 8am-12pm, but did not arrive until past 3pm. (They were short technicians, it seems.) He fixed the a/c unit, which needed a new capacitor and it seemed to have been fixed. After he left, we discovered that the air was cool, but not cold; the air coming in was weak and something was still wrong. We had to call for another appointment and the next time we got Brian, who saved the day. He saw that the fan in the machine was connected incorrectly, so it was not blowing air out and overheating our unit. He fixed it promptly and there is an instant difference. Many thanks! We still prefer Ability Air, because everyone is extremely nice & friendly. Main feedback is that we had to deal with this in super hot weather for a while and I wished it was fixed properly with the first technician. ------ Wow, never thought an A/C repair would be a pleasant experience. Rodney came with a cheerful attitude, very friendly and super, super nice. (He's also very funny!) We thought Rodney was very knowledgeable, answered our questions and explained the problem thoroughly. In fact, he knew what the problem was immediately after looking at our unit, had the part in his vehicle and installed it. He also had the ladder needed and carried it up and down the stairs. Update on my review. After our first great experience with this company, I called them back to service our condenser, just a simple annual service. First, they rescheduled with me three times which was annoying but no big problem. Right after they serviced my unit, I woke up the next day to a burning hot oven of a bedroom. I went outside and my condenser had iced over. I called them and asked them to come fix the problem they caused. It took the receptionist hours to call me back because she was looking for her manager. Then she couldn't get a tech out to help. This was in the middle of a heatwave and completely unacceptable. I never had problems with my condenser before, never had it ice up until these guys touched it. I told them to forget about it and now I have to get my condenser replaced because of whatever their tech did. read more

One of them was this one and a few minutes after leaving my voicemail, Markus called me back and offered the details and info I needed to meek a decision which looked as the best $olution to me. Our Heating wasn't working so after a long search I found Ability Air, Markus was able to come the same day and fix the problem, however a few days later we set-up a new thermostat and the heating wouldn't start again. It was Saturday at 4:55 pm, so I knew that it was a long shot to get him on the phone to trouble shoot it .But to my surprise not only did he offered to help me he actually came over and he wired the thermostat correctly and in no time at all we had heat and everything was fixed!! He didn't charge any extra for coming the second time!! So, our air conditioner goes out on Friday at 11am on what was reportedly going to be the hottest weekend on record in Monrovia. And our regular a/c company says the first appointment they have is between 8-9 on Monday. Monday! All weekend without air conditioning? Not an option. I called several other services that said basically the same thing as the first one... All weekend without air conditioning? Not an option. The next call was to Ability Heating & Air. Markus, the owner, answered and said he had a full day but could be there around 6:00. Yes! I booked the appointment and said we'd be waiting for him. He arrived just after 6:00 - he was running just a bit late, no surprise on such a crazy-hot day. His first guess was that it was likely a failed capacitor and confirmed this after testing it. He had the part on his truck, replaced it, filled up the refrigerant, tightened the valves and put new caps on them. He explained everything he was doing, answered all my questions and was a really nice guy to top it all off. I really can't recommend his service highly enough. I needed someone asap to fix my a/c that wouldn't blow out cold air although the fan was running. Joseph seemed eager to help and was able to contact a tech to come out to my house within a few hours. BRIAN the tech was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He was able to diagnose the problem fairly quickly and switch out the capacitor which he had in his car...then out came cold air! Diego and Darrell were absolutely wonderful! They were honest, friendly, efficient and wore masks the whole time for safety. We have had 3 a/c companies come look at our unit over the past year and each one of them said it was unfixable and quoted an exorbitant price to replace it. Then Diego and Darrel came, told us it was a loose wire and an old run capacitor that they could fix and the unit did not need to be replaced. My property management company uses Ability to perform all of their AC service. My AC went out on 7/9 and was told their earliest appointment was today 7/18. That's fine, I understand that it's the busiest time of the year given the heat. The tech arrived on time and and diagnosed my problem and submitted an approval for a new wall unit to my property management company which was approved by them within an hour. Got a call back to reschedule the installation and now the earliest time they have is a week from Friday 7/27. When all said and done this should not be a 17 day process. If the unit was approved as it was it does not seem right to now be placed again behind all those who presumably called after I did last week to schedule the initial appointment. The staff at each part of my experience have been great but the time elapsed to diagnose and install a wall unit being over 17 days in a these conditions is a pretty long duration. NOTE: As you can see the management is very attentive and responsive to any issues by the Managers reply below. Also got a call to move up service after they had a cancellation early in the week. Great customer service and prompt reply. Will be changing to a 5 star review. Thank you! read more

This last visit they couldn't make it to my house during the appointment window and nobody called me to tell me so I sat around for hours waiting for them and then had to call about it..... Either way, it's worth using them since they do GREAT work and are wayyyy better than anyone I've used before in my dozens of properties. I found Ability Air through Yelp. I called around for prices to assess an a/c problem for one of our tenants, and the receptionist quoted me a fee of $89 plus an additional fee every hour afterwards, and told me that the fee went toward the service repair if I went with them. This fee seemed reasonable and lower than other places I had called so decided to go with them. She scheduled me very quickly the following day for a morning slot. The next afternoon I called the the office to ask what the diagnosis was, and she reported that I wasn't in the schedule and the technician had not come. I was disappointed (but these things can happen), so I scheduled again for the following morning. I was very clear at that point, that I was the manager, and it was for a tenant. The following day, the technician tells me that they fixed the job (adding refrigerant and filter) and quoted me a price of around $600. I was not happy with that, as I had explained to him (again) that I had not requested them to fix the problem, but just wanted a diagnostic. No one had communicated to me what the problem was before deciding on their own to fix the problem. After phone calls with the owner (who did not want to budge but offered to TAKE the refrigerant out that they put in?) Long story short, everyone was confused, they charged me for the $89 service call fee (though over the phone they said otherwise), the owner over the phone didn't want to budge, although it was their fault on their end. Because of their shoddy communication with each other and the front desk, I definitely would not recommend this place. read more
