My Lennox AC. on the roof started vibrating at the first use this week to battle the Southern California heatwave. I called another company but they said that they had no availability until July(!). So I did my research and Yelp came again to the rescue. Everything written about In N out air is 100% true: Hovik deserves his title of "king of AC". My friend had Hovik out to her house yesterday. She found him through a friend who raved about him. My friend said that he was the best AC guy she'd ever called. He fixed the problem immediately, had the parts in his van, and was not expensive. If it weren't for her recommendation, I wouldn't have even called Hovik. When it's hot like this, I always suffer and it seems impossible to cool my house down during the height of a heatwave. I called him, and he called me back the next day. I explained that I wasn't even sure if there was a problem, but he came out anyway. In the 6 years I've owned this house, I have had 2 other AC guys come out when the AC unit has broken down and not one told me what Hovik explained - I had an extra filter on my AC that I did not need, and it was blocking a high percentage of the cold air from flowing. All the other AC guys had seen that filter and not mentioned a thing. Hovik went even a step further. When we took the extra air filter off the vent, the inside of the vent was exposed and really ugly to look at. When I mentioned this, he went back to his van and came back with spray paint and painted the inside black. Now, not only does the ugliness just fade away but the house cools down completely. I called them two days ago and left a voicemail. A few hours later a woman called back and asked a lot of questions. She then said she would call back after talking to the owner but I didn't get any call back or Vm. I saw so many wonderful reviews but the lack of communication is unfortunate. The service itself might be great but they really lack in follow up. My guess is that my work seemed so low priority and low paying that thought it wasn't worth coming out. We had previously reached out to In N Out Air for consultation and the experience was so positive we called them for help in installing our new thermostat. A couple of weeks ago I installed a new Nest Learning Thermostat myself. Removing our existing thermostat and installing the new one was easy and straight forward. But I couldn't get the thing to work. Rather than risk damaging the thermostat or our HVAC, I called In N Out Air. Hovik was able to come out the next day. He replaced the old with the new but also was unable to get our system to recognize the Nest thermostat and to turn on. He then had to climb on our roof (that's where our HVAC unit is) and was able to diagnose faulty wiring from whoever installed our old thermostat. Hovik took the time to explain how the system should be wired for proper operation and the differences between the old thermostat and the new thermostat. "Doctor" Hovik and his apprentice worked on our non-functioning, almost 30-year old Lennox HVAC unit today, and fixed it quickly after taking the time to meticulously determine the root cause of the problem. It turned out that three of the unit's parts were burnt out from a power issue that kind of created a domino effect on each one. Like a surgeon, he replaced them all with OEM ones, and followed all original wiring diagrams to install them. I called on a Saturday after the AC unit wouldn't start. I was able to get an appointment around noontime despite calling around 10 AM. Hovik called me 10 minutes beforehand to let me know he was arriving which was nice because I was out running errands. He asked a few questions to find out the situation, and explained how he charged. The cause of problem was a faulty starter which was replaced and AC was working again. This is not going to be a short one, my experience with In N Out Air spans over several years, in different situations. I am quite overdue! 6 years ago, I was looking for an AC technician and found In N Out Air on Yelp. We reached out to Anita and Hovik to get a quote for a new AC; ours was 14 years old, looked like it had seen better days, and was loud. Hovik came and told me that there was nothing wrong with our unit. He added that it was a great brand, and we should keep it until it dies, because they don't last as long anymore. He fine tuned the condenser, cleaned the coils in the back, checked the attic, changed the filter, then gave me the reference and recommended I buy those on Amazon to save money. He'd be happy to install them in the future though. I was impressed with his kindness and honesty. That day, as naive new homeowners, he could have made 10K easy. Each year, I scheduled a maintenance with Anita and Hovik. Except for a fuse that was replaced and some extra freon, the old faithful kept going heat wave after heat wave, albeit louder and louder. I asked once again about a new unit, he still recommended we waited. This year, we are redoing the driveway, and the AC needed to be moved. We called Hovik and we all agreed it was time to unplug it for good. Moving it back and forth was too risky with the 20-year old AC and it didn't made sense anymore. That evening, Anita sent us the quote which we approved. 48 hours later, we had the new condenser and coil installed. Talk about efficiency and great timing; the following week, Hovik had other projects. I saw a recommendation on Nextdoor a few days ago, followed by half a dozen neighbors all agreeing. And then cross referenced with lovely reviews here on Yelp. My A/C died in the heat wave last Summer. I was convinced my unit, which was here when I moved here in 2003, would need to be fully replaced. The other reviews are spot on. Hovik is an absolute pleasure. There is absolutely zero upsell. He is informative and educational. He helped guide me on maintenance I should have been doing. And ultimately it was a very affordable small part that needed replacing and he recommended I keep the system as long as it stays running. I have a 10-year old York HVAC system. I've had a sporadic problem for over a year now. I have previously used four different repair companies. I've spent over $1500 on repairs that didn't fix my system. I did my own research on Google. It suggested replacing the PCP board, not an easy task I guess. I suggested this to my last repair guy and he said that was definitely not the problem. After seeing the reviews on In N out Air I decided to give them a try. As a first time customer he and his helper came out to evaluate our HVAC. They replaced a capacitor and topped off the refrigerant and everything is beautiful once again.
