this place is amazing. please eat here! cannot recommend enough!!!…read more here's how it went down: we ordered the vindaloo (beware). the waitress asked us like 3 times if we're sure we can handle the spice. we said yes because, like, challenge accepted. she brought out an appetizer lamb skewer that we had also ordered first. it was spicy. she asked how the spice level was. she said the vindaloo was at least double the spice level. we were like okay damn, getting scared. she brings out the vindaloo. my bf and i both had one bite and shed a tear. we tried to power through it but started sweating. actually the spiciest food I've ever had. the sweet sweet waitress comes over (clearly aware that we are NOT in fact capable of consuming this level of spice), asks if she can bring us something else. she brings us some chicken Korma (delish, obviously). then, we get the check. they didn't even charge us for the vindaloo!!!!!! we tried to fight them. like, it was our mistake! they did not need to give it for free. they were like "you didn't enjoy it so you won't pay for it"! This level of hospitality is truly so rare these days. I just love this place, the people are so kind, and the food is genuinely delicious. Order the vindaloo at your own risk.

The interior is colorful and immersive - as if you're transported away from Brooklyn. Food comes out piping hot and super tasty. Although we ordered mild for everything (mainly due to having a two year old), there were definitely hints of heat, which honestly was fantastic for me - I can only imagine what spicy would be. It was my mil's first time trying Indian food in this way and she enjoyed it all.

Bombay Grill is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the city. The food is gently spiced and not greasy. The last time I checked, they had an excellent health department grade. It was a challenge to find that plus an affordable lunch special. One of my other favorite Indian restaurants has had several issues with the NYC health department. The Yelp app is very helpful - it lists the health department grade after the ratings. Bombay Grill also makes excellent curries. I prefer those over the usual chicken tikka masala - although that's always good. If you order lunch, the lunch box has more variety but less of the main course. So if you want just one main dish, it's better to go without a box lunch option and just choose a standard lunch deal.

We tried the chargrilled Red Snapper, lamb shank (not my favorite but super tender), lamb kabobs, chicken tandoori, fish tikka, samosas, mango lassi. Yeah.. we indulged. The food, the service, even the voices of the servers, were all excellent.

The vegetables, lentils, and rice were balanced and comforting, and it really tasted homemade in the best way. The summer salad was also lovely, and the pani puri was decent. Service was warm, and the atmosphere was relaxed, with nice outdoor seating in the back. Just note that you pay at the counter when you order. Great lunch spot overall, and I hope to return for dinner.

We chose bar seating, which ended up being a bit of a tight squeeze facing the wall; not the most comfortable setup, but manageable for a short meal. To start, we had the pani puri, followed by the samosa chaat. The flavors were good, but the samosa chaat was a bit of a letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the samosa itself was soggy rather than crisp. That contrast in texture is really what makes the dish shine, so it felt like it may have sat a bit too long or was over-sauced. We also tried the vegetable pav, which was decent, and the cod, which was actually very good; nicely cooked with a flavorful sauce. I did find myself wishing we had an extra roti to soak up the rest. For drinks, I had the mango lassi, which I appreciated for not being overly sweet. Service was okay but could be more attentive. My water wasn't refilled after a couple of rounds, and we felt a bit rushed toward the end of the meal. We were given the check without being asked about dessert, which caught us off guard. We did ask afterward, but by then decided to go elsewhere. That said, the food overall is flavorful, and I can see why this place has appeal; especially if you're looking for something a little different in the neighborhood. Having met the owner before in Industry City, it's great to see her doing well in Carroll Gardens, and I wish the restaurant continued success.

Spoiler, we never made it to any of the other locations because we were so full. Jalsa provide fare from all over India and makes paneer in house. They have plenty of seating and can take care of large catering parties. As is customary, they have a Sunday lunch buffet. We came on a rainy Saturday afternoons and there weren't many patrons dining. We went with the masala chai, mango lassi, lamb kati roll, and a ghee masala dosa with gun powder, upon recommendation. -The masala chai was perfectly blended, with sugar on the side to sweeten to one's liking. -The mango lassi was really good, but a bit thicker than I'd like; good tartness. -Lamb kati roll was really good, larger than expected. The flavours were well balanced and the paratha had a good flake to it. There was A LOT of lamb inside. -The ghee masala dosa was the shining star; it must have been 2.5, if not 3 feet long. The edges were super crispy like a chip, and the masala potato pilling was delicious If I could do it all over again, I'd only eat here and not eat ahead of time, since this was enough food to fill a party of two (maybe add in a samosa or two). I'll definitely be coming back to try more fare.

This is our goto place for Indian food in Brooklyn. Being a Bengali I was dumbfounded when I found…read morean authentic Bengali restaurant walking distance from our place and the food quality is five stars!! I have not been disappointed once after eating more than 5 times. Below are items that I order regularly: 1. Chicken Biryani 2. Kosha Mangsho (Goat Curry) 3. Chilli Chicken - This is probably the best I have ever eaten! However I highly recommend eating this at the restaurant coz Togo will get soggy and not as much fun! There are couple of things which I am not a fan of: 1. They do not have a phone number on their website 2. Their Togo menu is different than their sit in menu. However, if you go there and ask them for items that are in their sit-in menu, they have never said no

The decor and vibe of this place is so vibrant and beautiful, it instantly puts you in a good mood. I came here for a solo dinner during restaurant week which was a pretty good deal. Most of the patrons seem like they were neighborhood locals which I love to see. I would say based on the flavors and the people dining here that this restaurant is more of a gentrified desi place than authentic. I found the flavors in most of the items I tried lacking. The fuchka prepared tableside is a nice touch, but again the marketing is geared more towards non-desi patrons. The fish fry was delicious and a good portion but more like a good British fish n chips cod filet than a desi fish fry with proper spices. Even the mustard served on the side was awfully bland with no spice whatsoever. While I can still appreciate the flavors, I will always be disappointed when an establishment trades authenticity to serve and coddle palettes that do not appreciate proper desi food. The lamb curry was very very good, and I specifically asked for it to be made spicy. Dining here felt like invading a curated space for non Indians, so I unapologetically ate the curry and rice with my hands to remind myself that yes, this is still our food even if it's muted. To the owners I say - do better and do not shy away from authentic flavors. This is afterall, New York freaking City. We are allowed to show up and showcase our cuisine with full masala, full spice and full heat - just the way God intended it to be.
