Make sure you call them before you plan on coming, just to confirm the stand is open! CASH ONLY. I went here to copy my mailbox key so that my housemate and I would each have a copy. It cost $10 (I tried to copy it via a MinuteKey kiosk at the Westfield mall and the kiosk said it wouldn't copy this type of key; maybe that's why this was $10 because it was not a "standard" key. I visited ABM Lock & Key to have a replacement car remote key programmed. Since Louie, the owner/operator also does repairs away from his shop, I coordinated with him by phone rather than just showing up. Visitors need to know that the posted hours are not a true representation of when he is in the shop. Louie first cut the new key's blade for me, then using a fancy and apparently very expensive piece of equipment, successfully programmed the remote key. Louie spent almost an hour and a half focused on my car key and saved me hundreds of dollars over what I would have had to pay the dealership. No Bueno! I took my car key to get cut here with the lock casing. He charged me $10 to have the key cut. There is a chip that needed to be switched to the new lock and he tried to charge me $60 for a 2 minute job. In here at Sawtelle lock and key and they just did it for me for $10. Took him less than 1 minutes to do. I asked ABM very nicely if he could help me out because I just had my key cut and it was a quick fix but he said $60 to switch the chip and $150 for $7 key on Amazon $10 key cut and $133 to "program" or switch the chips from one key to another. Needless to say I won't be going back and will only be coming to Sawtelle locksmith from now on read more

Had them copy a key for my car, just needed the key copied, no transponder programming. He incorrectly copied the key, did not take my money, told me to get a blank key blade and he will swap it out for free. 1. He copied it incorrectly 2. Because of his mistake, I now have to shell out money to buy a replacement blade? Told me he can get me one but he would have to charge me his price. 3. Blank blades are not available for this key, I am now out of a key because of HIS mistake. I had to buy a full replacement key fob, these are those with the key and remote integrated into one, it's expensive. 4. I didn't force him to copy the key, if he does not have the equipment or skill to handle these types of key, he can simply deny the request. read more

Don't bother coming here for duplicate keys unless it's midday and you see the kiosk open. Sign clearly states they're open at 9. No one there still 30 minutes later. I called the number and their VM says they'll get back to you in 5 mins. Never heard back. The shopping center is in an unnerving location: many homeless people with drug problems were hanging around, I also witnessed the 7-11 get robbed while waiting. I decided to leave and went up the street towards Wilshire and saw a huge sign for a store called Bundy's Lock & Key only a block away. This store was open, it was clean inside, staff were efficient and friendly, and it's local. Also they accepted credit card even for one key duplication which ABM is cash only. I have no idea how their 24 hr emergency service is at ABM but for key duplication I will not be coming here again. read more

I said fine and waited around for 20 minutes watching the fascinating entrances and exits of individuals who frequent the 7/11 a few feet away on a Saturday afternoon. Nothing. I called the guy again and this time was just greeted by the machine. That's when it became time to take my business elsewhere. If you're closed when you should be open (it happens, I get it, it's ok) just leave a note saying so and when you'll be back. Louie was awesome! I got to him desperate looking for someone who could help me fix the key hob of my jeep. I almost got scammed by other predators online plus the car dealer was charging me $400 for a new key. When I told him my story he stopped me and said let me help, let's check first the battery and with some tools and equipment he was able to figure out the problem without me spending hundreds of dollars of what other people were claiming was the problem. I called this place the other day in the middle of running a bunch of errands for my job because I needed to get some keys duplicated for my boss. I had gone to one place and it turned out they didn't have enough of one particular key in stock to make all the copies we needed, so I called a few other places that were close by, according to my Google map app. I called ABM and asked the guy who answered the phone if I could find out if they had a certain key in stock and if so how much it was. Without allowing me to get another word in edgewise, much less give him the key # (keys are standardized and the number on the key helps the locksmith identify which key base they'd need in order to copy yours), he said "there are hundreds of keys and I have no way of knowing which one is in your hand." I was so flabbergasted I didn't even mention the key number - and he certainly didn't ask for it because he was too busy acting like I was the dumbest person on the planet. So I simply asked him (hoping to simplify things) to tell me their general price range (should be simple - which key is cheapest and which is most expensive?). He refused to do that, so I asked him to tell me which key is most expensive then. He refused. I asked "you can't just give me the price of your most expensive key?" I was trying to make sure I had enough petty cash to buy the copies without having to go all the way back to the office for more money. So this wise-ass decides to say "$500" at which point I told him to go fuck himself. It is completely ridiculous to treat someone this way just because you hate your miserable life. If you hate your job so much, then quit. If this was the business owner then that's even more outrageous. (By the way, this was at about 2:45pm on Tuesday 9/19/17, should anyone at this business wish to figure out who exactly answered the phone when I called.) So I went all the way back to the office and after a few more phone calls found the keys we needed at Emerson's Lock & Key. What did the guy say when I called asking to make sure they had the key we needed in stock? First, he asked for the numbers on the keys we needed to copy. Then, just to be absolutely sure, he asked if I had a picture of the keys. So I texted it to him and lo' and behold, they had them in stock AND gave us the exact price. How 'bout that? Wasn't so hard, was it? Now, maybe the guy at ABM is simply inept and doesn't understand how keys are standardized, but he is clearly a miserable troll who enjoys taking his crappy life out on others.
