as easy as it gets. they are located very conveniently on lincoln just south of santa monica blvd., between broadway and santa monica (more towards santa monica), just adjacent to the CVS pharmacy there. walked in and got keys duplicated in minutes. fair prices, great service. one thing i noticed that they emphasized in signs is no talkng on cell phones in the store. that's refreshing. wish more places would do that. read more

Looks like I finally ran into the employee that people talk about here. Extremely rude. I was on the phone with my boss whom I am making keys for, he walks out points at the sign that says "take your calls outside" in a script that isn't exactly easy to see unless you are standing next to it. So I assume it's just a "we will ignore you if you're on the phone" type deal so I said aside to him "I'm not asking for service right now thank you" and then stepped outside to finish my call wanting to respect his wishes. When I go back in I mentioned to him saying that he didn't have to be rude to me and he turned around and said "have a nice day" I tried explaining the situation to him hoping he could understand reason. He couldn't. Even told me I was the one being rude to him! Utterly horrible experience. There was a nice older gentleman here the last times I came here. He made my keys perfectly and quickly without issue and had great customer service. I'm hoping the other idiot finally gets enough complaints to lose his job because I've never been treated worse in a service industry than right now. read more

I love when small businesses succeed despite difficult economic circumstances. I first tried Sears but was ignored by an octogenarian who frankly should not be a sales associate but should focus on wiping the drool off his face at a nursing home. I was redirected by a younger and helpful associate to a small shoe repairman that also duplicates keys. I went to the sorry excuse of a shoe shop below the parking structure on 4th street. A nasty troll of a man complete with Harvey Keitel coke nail in Taxi Driver mumbled that he couldn't duplicate the key. I finally went to Ace Lock and Key and was delighted to find the owner to be quite friendly. I had 4 keys duplicated for a reasonable price and was out of there in less than 5 minutes. I was told by the owner that his father had opened the business back in the 40s. Great to see a family business I will go here in the future and it's a relief that some people aren't miserable jerks! read more

I manage a couple buildings and get a ton of keys made. This is my go-to place. The gentleman who runs the place is always super polite and helpful. Great sense of humor. And, most importantly, knows what he's doing! I have never had one of his keys not work. Company I worked for used Ace since '70's, I've used Ace and have always had polite efficient service by Steve, nothing to much for him. Today I called to open a door as key was left inside. Whomever answered the 'phone told me they didn't have an emergency service, wasn't so much we couldn't get service right away but the take it or leave it attitude of the guy I was speaking with. Went here based on the reviews and the fact that it was right down the street from my apartment. Got in and out super quick! Very friendly staff and very reasonable prices. One of the three cuts I had made did not work so I'll likely go back to see if they'll recut it. Other than that, great experience and I'll be back next time I need keys made. read more

I had a similar experience as another reviewer, unfortunately this store employs an absolute ass. Treated me poorly and even ruder to women. I added them to the DO NOT USE list for all my friends, family and anyone else who asks... Unaware of the rule, my housekeeper called them out to fix a broken lock. They arrived with in a couple of hours, and completed the repair - very inexpensive. There are a lot of great things about this place but my favorite is that there is PARKING! In the CVS lot directly to the north of Ace Lock & Key. I came here to get my front doorknob rekeyed and get 3 new sets of keys. I came in right at 8am when they opened and was immediately helped. I walked to the Starbcks 2 doors down and when I came back, everything was ready! It cost me just under $30 for 6 keys and a new lock. I was able to drive back to my house in Santa Monica, put the doorknob back on and make it to work in Century City before 9am! I was very pleased with the service and would recommend coming here. read more

Great little place to get your keys duplicated if you live in that area of Santa Monica however the staff has major attitude problem. It just doesn't get any simpler than this. 20 seconds of customer interaction for a stupid key and they make you feel like you've asked them to bend over backwards for you. No greeting or thanking for bringing them business. They have ZERO social and customer service skills. Thank god I only have to deal with them once a year for 20 seconds. read more

Went to Ace to get expensive deadbolt repaired. Keys would not turn it - frozen. The owner or employee, don't know which, determined it was just bad keys. He explained that each generation of keys I had made over years at various places had deteriorated in precision. He made me new keys by manufacturer's specs and it worked perfectly. I was worried about getting it installed back correctly and he gave me tip to extend deadbolt first and then everything would line up - reinstalling deadbolt and getting aligned can be a pain. That tip made it easy. This guy could have just taken my lock for repair and charged me repair plus new keys, but he did the HONEST THING. Ace has my business from now on. read more

I have gotten over thirty keys made (i work for a restaurant) by them over the course of a year and I haven't had a problem- I take that back, once I did and brought it back and they fixed it and made new keys for me right away. So when my car key literally fell apart, I didn't want to go back to the Acura dealer because the time before when I needed duplicates I had to go back and get them to redo my car key. I went to Ace Lock and Key, showed them the original key with the number on it. The guy quickly made two for me, and they fit. I also had a few other keys copied just in case. read more

The last time I went early AM he was alone had 3 keys made bought 3 plastic rings I find it so difficult to put the key thru them. Homely atmosphere. You can even find the old school "The Club" for your car! The staff is informative and easy going. I came in and have gotten keys duplicated. Recently I needed a key for my 2007 Suzuki GSXR. And the guy there found me a key almost as fast as my 0-60 time, and duplicated it as fast! Bravo! read more

These guys are great. Long story short, I locked myself out of my house late night. Got a complete amateur "locksmith" to come out. He left me a hundred dollars lighter and with a door with no lock in it. Called these guys early the next morning and they really helped me out. They had a replacement lock for me, gave me instructions on how to install it, helped me out a few times on the phone when I got stuck, and even lent me a tool I needed to complete the job. Ace used to be a place I liked and utilized all the time. They were my go-to place for all things lock and key. But they now have a terrible customer service problem due to one employee. There is a short, hispanic guy (just being descriptive) who needs a major psychic enema and/or retraining. He is rude and acts like he's doing you a favor to make a simple key. I watched him roll his eyes, sigh in contempt, and snap at different customers while waiting to have a key made. Trying to communicate with him seemed impossible as everything about him communicates that he doesn't want to be there and doesn't give a damn about you. I will go anywhere else like Busy Bee or another locksmith rather than be subjected to this guy again. read more

Went on a Tuesday about 11:00 a.m., don't know if the guy behind the counter was rude due to being extremly hungry or just FLAT out rude and unprofessional. It was a fellow about 5 feet tall, dark hair , Hispanic or Phillipino, not that race matters, but just a heads up if you happen to non-chalantly wander in to have a key made and see this fellow, turn around and go to ANY other store, I repeat ANY other key making store, there are plenty around. This guy was a jerk from the get go, he acted like he was doing me a favor for making me a key which I was paying overpriced prices for!. I have told my freidns an co-workers to go to Busy bee or OSh, any place but this store. From reading other reviewers, guess he doesn't like woman, cause he was a major ass to me. Ace is a solid, quick service that doesn't waste customers' time. I've had to duplicate many keys in the last year and never had any issues while there. The one thing that bothers me is that the key quality is not as good as it could be. How can I confirm this? Two of the keys I had copied BROKE OFF inside locks. Seems like this should never happen with keys. But you get what you pay for. And you don't pay much! read more
