We are so happy with our roof(s) that were completed by the Above All Roofing Company. (Had both our main house and garage roofs replaced). They are very thorough in their work and have high standards. The owner "Emile" has been in the roofing business for many years and is very knowledgeable. He has specialty certification in the roofing business. The owner and his receptionist "Maia" were very communicative throughout the entire process from the initial estimate to completion. We appreciated this very much as communication is very important. The team who did the tear down and re-roofing were very skilled and efficient. Leonel, the foreman, was very thorough and constantly kept in touch with Emile the owner if there were any questions or additional work to be performed. Unfortunately, we had a significant amount of extra work to be performed due to some damaged areas, so this added to the original estimate, however it was always discussed with us prior, so we knew what to expect. We also had our gutters and downspouts replaced. The team who did the replacement was also very good. They were able to salvage some newer downspouts we had added recently and that eliminated some additional charges. The owner stands by his work and will return for any issues with the roof and its components (roofing paper, shingles, flashing, vents, repairs, etc). Additionally, the company will perform a roof and gutter cleaning within a year or so of the initial roof replacement. In late December, we found some extensive roof leaks in our newly purchased home thanks to some crappy repairs done by whoever the previous owner hired. This was extremely stressful to deal with as the weather forecast was showing endless amounts of heavy rain to come. We reached out to several roofers, almost all of whom were scheduling weeks out as we weren't previous customers or were simply swamped with other customers who offered a bigger job (AKA more $$$). "Winter is coming" and I'm not just talking about Game of Thrones. We really needed to replace a roof on a cherished family home, and got several bids. Our neighbor strongly recommended Above All Roofing so we asked the owner Emile to come and take a look. The estimate was very reasonable - -we took a leap - and boy are we glad we did! Emile and his crew did a phenomenal job - and the roof is superb. They did find dry rot, and some other repair issues - but they quickly repaired them. SHORT REVIEW: CALL HIM! LONG REVIEW: First big rain storm of 2021 and on Saturday at 3-4am, I discovered I had a roof leak! Called Emile based on other positive reviews on Sunday at 9am, not expecting an answer. He did and at 10AM he was at my house diagnosing the issue and fixed by 11ishAM. Turned out minor issue causing it even though leaking water in your house is a major thing. This is the second time I have used this company and for good reason. We had a part of a gutter that got clogged which then led to some roof issues. Emile came right over, got up on the roof and figured out what needed to be done. He had it done within the week. We were extremely disappointed with Emile, especially after seeing all the glowing Yelp reviews. Perhaps he's good at certain things and it's nice that some people liked him, but our experience was very negative. We had water leaking into our house after recent storms. Called various roofers, Emile responded and said he might be able to come late in the week since all roofers were swamped given all the storms. He would charge $275 for a "comprehensive roof inspection" and then an additional flat fee to fix any small problem. He also said we'd be lucky to get any roofer because of all the storms, but maybe he could fit us by end of week. Yet somehow the next day he was free and showed up with 20 minute notice? He made a point of mentioning again that he made a mistake of answering his phone on the weekend and we were lucky to get him, normally he's at yoga and wouldn't answer (not sure why we care, don't answer if you don't want business?) He views the interior water leak damage then goes on the roof for "comprehensive" inspection which took ~20 minutes. Then comes back and asks for the $275 without telling us anything. Was this a joke? Regardless we didn't pay him until hearing what was the diagnosis. He whips through a bunch of pictures on his phone with a lot of roofer jargon and states that our solar panels are definitely the problem. Quoting report "Poor flashing detail and install for stand-offs from recent solar installation. Flashings are... tucked under one shingle only, which is marginal at best. The result is a short flashing between shingle keyways allowing water entry under flashings. When shingle keyways near any penetration, the shingle must be cut back 10 inches then another shingle added to move shingle keyway at least 5 inches from edge of flashing; at the same time keeping nail pattern 5 inches from keyways. Remove solar panels. Have an experienced technician repair comp shingles and reset flashings as necessary." He offers a temporary repair with felt on the panels closest to the leak for $175. We ask if he'll come back if the fix doesn't work, and he says no it's not worth his time for such low money. Sadly we agreed to this extra gouging because there was rain in the forecast and we didn't want more leaking. The job took him about 15 minutes. We paid him and he said he'd send us the detailed report "later". The final "detailed" report was one paragraph that only mentioned this solar issue, and it didn't arrive until late the next day after texting him multiple times (basically after taking the money he disappeared with no communication for 24+ hours including no response to a text message asking when we could expect the report). He didn't document any other aspects about our roof in this "comprehensive" report, though verbally he'd told us the trim around the chimney was rotting (which we knew) and some small bits of flashing might need screws instead of nails. He also emailed images of the solar flashings pointing at where he believed water was leaking. Now, to document why he was 100% completely wrong. We called our solar company and they responded within 24 hours. Their head tech "J" has 15 years experience as a roofer before going into solar. J explained that it's common for roofers to blame solar. In fact the solar mounts are designed to be smaller than typical flashings. The mount is ESR-2835 certified for waterproofing, and for composition roof is sized to fit in one shingle course (our roof and photo Emile took looks exactly like picture at http://www.quickmountpv.com/technology/qblock.html). This component's brochure + installation diagram was approved/stamped by the city building permit department. The solar company sent a tech on-site within 24 hr for free. Tech read Emile's report and was surprised, said the location of the panel was inconsistent with what we were observing for the water leak. But he re-tightened and sealed everything and said to call again if it kept leaking. After the next leak we called solar company again, after all how could 5-star Emile possibly be wrong after insisting our installation was a disaster? This time the solar tech sprayed the area around the panel with a hose for 10+ minutes at various angles and no water was observed leaking into the house. This is on the 2nd storey so not easily done. The tech then sprayed carefully all around the surrounding area until he found a crack in the wall that was the actual source of the water leak!! So in the end, Emile charged $450 for a completely wrong diagnosis and bad (costly had we followed it) advice to re-install all our solar flashings. For someone whose business is roofing he should educate himself about solar and not be so quick to draw conclusions blaming solar. read more

My home's leak is an ongoing and unfortunately very complicated problem at the nexus of several different roof planes, and Emile was forthcoming about its complexity and honest in his assessment of the situation and the need for additional resources (e.g. a builder/contractor) to be called in to help as well. I had a roof leaking for about 3 years. After calling several roofers who attempted to fix it over the years, none could. I came to Yelp and found Above All Roofing and gave them a call. They came out and looked at the roof and gave me an estimate, which seemed reasonable. I hired them to fix my roof. Fingers crossed that this time would be the last and real fix. They found 3 roofs under the patches and the reason why no one could fix the leak. All the others never found the real problem and all did a half assed job at attempting to fix it. Above All Roofing came to our rescue! On October 13th there was a huge storm. I was in my sons room making the bed when I noticed water dripping from the ceiling. I frantically started dialing out of the phonebook. Emile at Above All Roofing was the first to answer. He was at our house within an hour and was able to fix the problem as best as he could in the horrible down pour. I have nothing to say but the best things about the service we received from Emile and Above All Roofing Services! We had just moved into our new house and I came home to find that the roof was leaking into our kitchen that was in the process of being remodeled. I found Emile on Yelp and called him right away. He came out the same day and patched the roof for us until we could have the repair done after the storm. The repair and a full roof inspection was done later that month which included descriptions and pictures to what was wrong with the roof. I had a small roof problem causing a leak last winter. I had contacted a well-regarded local contractor during the dry season (July/August) who diagnosed the problem and vowed to return to make a quick fix. Despite repeated calls to the office (four), no show. Another rain season comes up and the leak comes back. Typical bad contractor customer service. After a branch broke off my redwood tree and made a hole in my roof, I called a few roofers to schedule an estimate for a repair. Most roofers told me it would take several days for someone to come out and give me an estimate, but Emile took my address and went to my house on the same day (in the rain) to take a look at the damage. While he was there he replaced my temporary plastic tarp with a much better felt cover to prevent any rain leaks until he would come our a few days later to make a permanent repair. He even cleaned some of my gutters while he was up there. He returned with his crew to do a final repair a few days later and charged a fair price for his work. So I knew Emile many years ago but had lost touch over the years. He had put a beautiful new roof on my parents house in Hillsborough at least 15 years ago that is still beautiful and looks like the day it was new. With the huge winds we had last night in the Bay Area (02,21,23) a whole bunch of my roof tore off. We could hear it tearing off and flying across the yard at midnight. I was extremely worried because rain is forecast for tomorrow and my roof has a very steep pitch besides it being a very high two story. While I was not expecting to hear back right away Emile returned my call with in five minutes he also said he would try to get here the next day but was pretty booked. He did not make it the next day but with no prompting he called again on the next business day. We set up a time to come take a look at what I thought was a leak in the roof. He not only showed up on time but called before hand. When he arrived he discovered that it was not the roof but a chimney stack so he gave me the name and number of someone he thought could fix the problem. BUT WAIT it gets better! I called this company based on the good reviews here and would like to share my experience and advise caution when dealing with them. I have a small unconventional job which involves a corrugated roof on a garden room. Emile showed up on time with a smile and indeed is a charming fellow. He showed interest not only in helping me find a solution that would not involve replacing the entire room, but also in my home and collections. In fact we talked about many things and spent more time on that than actually discussing the details of the job. He said several times that he was going to take care of me and indicated he wanted to do the job. We ended with him promising an estimate by the end of the week for replacing the roof support beams and new "modified roof" which I learned later is an asphalt and rubber material. Well, the week ended and the following week I called him and he said he was too busy, but would get back to me in the next couple of days, which he did. His estimate was over $12,000, which about knocked me off my feet when he told me! While I did not tell him, I had the entire house re-roofed including new plywood, high-end "Presidential" shingles, new gutters, and insulation for less than that! When I told him that that price was way over my budget limit, he said he could do "much better" if he figured it "time and materials". While I was leery of this from prior experiences, I asked him to rework it and let me know the bottom line cost, which he said he would do. Needless to say that was over two weeks ago and he never bothered to follow up. I don't know about you, but any contractor that does not follow up and is evasive and overpriced in initial discussions, is not one I would want to have doing my projects. read more
