My best friend and I decided to try this place out. I live in Dallas and she lives in Euless. As we know with Covid going on we all miss our friends and family too. We wanted to get out and catch up and so I decided to venture out to her neck of town. We both decided on this place and we got there around 7:45 pm on Tuesday evening January 26, 2021. She got there before me and I asked my friend to get a seat at the bar. (No bar seats available at the time but the bar area had open seating available). To me, this is great, we even picked a restaurant that was closing at 10pm versus 9pm. We got there and we did get water plus we got a drink order in quickly. I had to wait for mine to get there and it took a few minutes for that and then we waited for our order to be taken. They were not busy but they seemed to be short handed so I totally understand that this happens so much, especially in these times with Covid going on. Our server that evening, she seemed to be very nice and friendly, she was definitely talking to the other patrons which were about to leave and joking with them which is fine but well, we still need to order and I just drove 30 minutes in the rain after working an Amazon shift so yeah, I get it, but we were looking at them, giving eye contact too. I almost wanted to go to another restaurant but we did not have many options around so we waited. Finally, we get an order in and I decided on tortilla soup which came back with my actual meal! Ok, now please please tell me why? I am still trying to be nice at this point though you know. I mean she's laughing and giggling with patrons and the girl behind the bar too but I was starving and my soup came out 25-30 min later and that was after the first 20 min or more we waited before the order was taken. I believe the tortilla soup could have been great had it been hot. It was warm. Anyway, so then our server was nicer and you know by now its like 9pm and they look like they are wanting to close so I really don't have time to even have a second drink, I asked for another shot of tequila to add to my margarita which they did that,. When our entrees came out, my friends chicken enchilada looked good and she did not complain. My mixed fajitas were really good and so were the tortillas, although for the price I am going to have to say that it looked like a "lunch portion" I was given instead of a meal for that price. We decided to go to this location because we were in the area celebrating our granddaughter's birthday and I must say they delivered!! Everything was awesome. They were extremely nice from the time I called to make the reservation, upon our arrival at the restaurant, and during our time of dining in! Monica was our waitress; she's the best! Ask for her if you visit! We had a party of 11 and she was on top of her game. She did not miss a beat. She got everyone's order right, kept our drinks full, and you can tell she truly cared about the customers. To top it off, the drinks were the best. We had lemon drop martinis and I believe we had hand grenade margaritas (my son placed the order for those so I'm not sure on the name). OMG! Bob was at the bar serving and he did not disappoint!! The food was hot and good. The manager on shift was very nice. The whole atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. We will be back in the future if we are in the area! This was a pretty meh Tex-Mex experience, unfortunately. I brought some family here over the holidays - I was intrigued by a couple of the vegetarian menu options and liked the look of the photos, but was sorely disappointed by the actual quality of the food. The selection of table salsas is fun and interesting, but the queso is... odd and bland and rather small for the price, and all of food was over-salted and under-spiced. The breading on the veggie chile relleno was very fluffy, and the filling was unusual and not entirely in a good way. Overall everything on the table was a good idea not particularly well executed. The one thing this place really had going for it was the service - our waitress was *excellent.* She quickly identified that we were a table of vegetarians and flagged several items as having non-veg components, and offered substitutions. Superb - she totally deserves five stars. The ambiance was also legitimately nice - it is enormous and has tons of hard surfaces, so I imagine it'll get kind of loud during busy times, but that's likely just lively. Overall, I'd say go to this place for margaritas and chips & salsa, but head elsewhere for your actual dinner. read more

Overall average Mexican restaurant. I ordered a burrito and it was good, but nothing particularly special. Was a little surprised that my burrito came with the steak on inside of the burrito, but the rice, beans, and cheese were on the plate. My party had the table in the middle of the dining area and the space is very pretty with the tall ceilings and greenery. This was our 3rd time here and I must say that each time has been great. Th food has been on point and we haven't had any problems with the service. Happy hour prices are from 3pm to 6 and they are pretty good with $5 margaritas. Pretty certain it wasn't good quality steak or grill removed all flavor. Only pulled chicken in the enchiladas was ok. Pretty certain most of the food is not prepped fresh including the salsa. Almost every meal is $25 or more and you really don't get that value. You won't see Hispanic people here because it's a cultural appropriated take on authentic Mexican food. I'm a tad shocked at the low review! I'm a die hard fajita fan of a famous place downtown but today decided to try Abuelo's for one reason: close to home. Their chicken fajitas BEAT the famous name downtown!! They were incredible! Flavor top notch on these fajitas. Samantha was a wonderful, attentive waitress. We came on Sunday evening (6ish) and it was so quiet! I think I found my Sunday date spot. Quiet. Clean. Delicious. Good service. Well done Abuelos! read more

So, I'll start out by saying I love Abuelo's. I've been coming here for about... 25 years? When you dine in, perfect experience. So maybe you're asking yourself, but Robin, if you love it and it is so great, why 4 stars?! Super simple answer, when I order pick up or delivery, which I have done many times over the last two years, there is almost always something wrong. Whether it's wrong size, incorrect item, missing item... I mean, I keep expecting that it will eventually come like it does in the restaurant. As an example, today I got one of my most frequent orders, two enchiladas, refried beans, Mexican rice. The enchiladas were one cheese with chili con carne, and one ground beef with chili con carne, because for some reason they don't offer ground beef with queso as an option in the app (major oversight in my opinion). I wrote in a special request, "Queso on ground beef enchilada". I think we can all agree that means I want queso on the ground beef enchilada, and no other changes. Well, they got that right! I got a ground beef enchilada with queso. For some reason, they took that to mean I just didn't want the cheese enchilada at all, so they turned that one, which I specifically chose and did not mention in the special instructions, into the exact thing I didn't want, ground beef enchilada with chili con carne. You may also be saying, why don't you just call them instead of blasting on Yelp? I hear you, I totally have. I've had refunds, replacements, and even an offer of redelivery. But for one thing, that makes me feel bad because I still eat the wrong orders. They shouldn't be free... they should just be right. So maybe someone in management sees this and says, hey, we need to go over reading special orders on tickets, or something, I dunno. I'm looking for change, not a freebie. I love their food, I really do. I just want to be able to love it at home without having to call every time to confirm special instructions made in the app. read more

I love Abuelo's, I've been a fan for a long time. One of the things I really like is that seniors get to order off the lunch menu all the time. We decided to head to Abuelo's for my "birthday week" celebration. Our friends were fairly new to the area and had never dined at the restaurant. I was happy that I was going to introduce them to Abuelo's. Since it was my birthday week celebration, I ordered their signature margarita, the "El Jefe." Yummy and VERY good. I decided on my normal lunch special (it was dinner time). It had a Chile Relleno and an enchilada of choice. I opted for the cheese version of the relleno. I decided on their signature mashed potatoes and rice for my sides. Another thing I like about Abuelo's is their 3 salsas, a hot smoky one, a mango pineapple green, and a robust red salsa. Their chips are also thin and crispy. Everything was wonderful and service by Taylor was top-notch. To top the evening off, I received a free serving of flan, undeniably one of the more creamy flans I've ever tasted. It was perfect. What an incredible evening we all had. Today was my first time at this restaurant. I went after church with my girlfriends. Our waitress was very nice, attentive, and fast in getting our order out to us. They do not have brunch but they do $5 mimosas according to their signage at the front of the lobby. Let me just say the paintings are beautiful and I wish I would have taken some pictures. I absolutely loved the ambiance. The waitress brought out chips and 3 different salsas. The salsas all had different flavors; smokey, sweet, and regular. The waitress advised everything is made fresh and to try out the fish the next time. I ordered the chicken and beef enchiladas with black beans and rice. The enchiladas were good, the beans and rice was not a flavorful. My friend got s chicken plate with these potatoes and she let me sample it and it was amazing. The potatoes had cheese and so much flavor as well as the chicken. For dessert, I ordered the dulce cheesecake to go which was good. I was charged a packaging fee because I ordered it to go so word of advice just order and pack yourself. Would I go back? Yes. Definitely worth trying some other menu items. read more

On our way to Billy Bob's we stopped to get some eaters and decided to eat. Looked on Google fir close Mexican food and Abuelo's was only .2 miles. First time going here and I am glad we did. Salsa and chips are yummy... mix that hot and sweet salsa and you taste buds will thank you. We ordered 3 item, 2 enchiladas (1 beef & 1 cheese) and a taco. First time here!!! Dined in on a Friday night while traveling from San Antonio. This place happens to be right next to a hotel we were staying at and we walked over for convenience and because the hotel clerk told us it was pretty good. So... First impression: Ambience of the restaurant is really lovely. Could easily be for a higher class joint. The front desk service is lackluster. Poor girl has zero personality, but I don't hold it against her. She seemed quite young and a career in service is not for everyone. Wait was 10 mins and we were called once our table was ready. The menu: the menu selection for cocktails and food is pretty extensive. It does disappoint me when I can't get aguas frescas like horchata at a Mexican restaurant and Abuelo's falls into that heartbreaking category. D'oh! There are colorful photos of delicious food options and something for everybody. Portions are decent, not nearly what I expected... for instance my husband ordered a burrito. It was the size of one you might find at Taco Bell... NOT what you would find at a legit Mexican spot. And my dish had a medley of 2 enchiladas, a tamal (all of which were small in size) and a hard shell taco. I also enjoyed my mango iced tea. Ordered some flan to-go to enjoy later. The service: our server, don't believe he introduced himself by name, was friendly and professional. He checked on us quite a bit. The small details: a few things bugged me. They are details that small, but should be addressed by management. 1. Stacks of cocktail sized napkins found at the pillars at the entryway to the main dining hall. They were obviously put there for the convenience of servers, but should not be out in the open. Seems unsanitary and during times like these, just a bad look. 2. My server was also sweeping the floors and left the broom and dustpan sitting in the center of the dining floor for at least 8 mins. Was kinda weird and unsanitary. 3. We were seated near the kitchen and the door swung open and close all night, understandably, this place is jumping on a Friday night! Problem is, the dang thing needed some serious WD-40. Like TODAY! Awful thing squeaked all throughout my meal which was a distraction and a nuisance. Easy fix, y'all! Overall impression: pretty place to sit and have a reasonably priced meal. Almost everything here is great. Every Time. Food and Service are wonderful. I only have 3 complaints. 1. Red Salsa 2. Green Salsa 3. The other Red Salsa I have eaten at more Mexican Restaurants than I can count. Some are better than others. Usually, for most diners, you might get a pass on some of the food as long as the chips and hot sauce are good. The Chips are good. They are light, well sized, and they don't break easily. But seriously - turn that 3-hole salsa server upside down and start over. Has anyone ever given a positive comment on any one of those three sauces? I have had a lot of hot sauce at a lot of restaurants. I would be happy to have just chips and hot sauce and a glass of tea for a meal. I have purchased a lot of store-bought hot sauce. I even make two different ones myself at home. I would put either one of the two I make up against your 3-hole disaster. One of mine came from a friend who perfected it over time. And truthfully, the other came from a restaurant owner that was going out of business. I like your food. I like it a lot. But I may have to start bringing my own hot sauce when I return to dine with you. And just on case you are wondering - the Salsa cost you the 5th Star. read more

I have not been to this location in years. I have stopped by the Arlington location a couple of times in since covid, but mostly for happy hour. This time I was meeting friends, and this was halfway. The service was still good and they make a tasty margarita. The menu, however, has taken a hit since covid. And the quality of the food has gone down. In order to bulk up the menu, they have things listed multiple times. You will find guacamole under appetizers, vegetarian, and gluten sensitive. It is ridiculous. They used to make some really good carnitas street tacos. Alas, a thing of the past. I just wanted some tacos and went with the chicken fajita tacos. They were weird. Tasty flour tortillas with chicken chopped up into tiny squares and covered in queso? Definitely not what I was expecting. I used to think of this as a chain that was a step above others, but you can find better tacos, at a better price, at Chuys. They have a good happy hour at the bar, and you can request for them to just bring you out some of their regular salsa if you are not a fan of the little trio of their salsa options. read more

On November 27, 2023, I ordered catering online for a lunch that would be held on December 19, 2023, with a delivery time of 11:45 a.m. To cut a long tale short, I ended up picking up the unfinished catering order from the restaurant around 12:15 p.m. on December 18, 2023. Technically, because of their lack of preparation, this place ruined our office Christmas party. Both the enchiladas and the tacos were drenched in sog. Our catering order cost $400; The on-duty general manager Andy really needs help! Not to be disparaging of him, but management is usually where the issues start. Although Andy, the general manager, acknowledged his errors, he failed to offer any sympathy or an apology. In summary, AVOID ORDERING FOOD FROM THIS PLACE! We weren't pleased with the mushy tacos and enchiladas, the chilly catering, or the lack of serving tools as specified on the menu! We spent our time and money hard earned money and both the beef and chicken fajitas were disgusting, and to be honest I want my money back! Haven't stopped in in a while as it's not that close to home. I still sorta feel nostalgic for the ol' location (tear). But, the interior here is sure similar, with the pretty stone columns and the fantastic Spanish paintings. Anyway, always wonderful here, and today was no exception. Once seated we were served our drinks and brought some chips and salsas. I love the fact that they give you 3 types of salsa. My favorite was the brown salsa, my husband's was the green, and my son liked the red one. I guess they have a salsa for every palette. We got some Queso as an appetizer which was pretty good. I kept seeing the El Jefe Margarita on the menu, so I had to see what it was all about. If you go to Abuelo's you have to try it!!! It was really really good. It was perfectly sweet, and nice and cold. They bring it out in a shaker with ice for you to pour it yourself. For our dinner my husband had the Mi Abuelos Manjar which was three stacked enchiladas layered with beef, cheese and chile con carne. Topped with two eggs. He loved his meal. I had the Juarez which was a crispy beef taco, tamale, chicken and cheese enchiladas, with rice and beans. I love everything on my plate, but my favorite was the cheese enchilada. My son and my daughter shared a plate of chicken nuggets and fries. You can't go wrong with that. The service was great. Our waiter kept our drinks full and was very attentive the whole time. I ordered online for pick up. Once I got to the restaurant I decided that I would dine In instead of to go. Holly in the bar was nice and brought out chips and salsa right away. The chips are light and good. My fave of the salsas was the red one. I also had a strawberry margarita which was awesome! The chicken fajita salad was very tasty. $16.99 is a bit steep for a salad at lunch but the taste of the chicken and sipping on that margarita made me overlook the price. I would like to commend the attentiveness of Holly again. She made sure I was taken care of as she finished other to go orders. I most definitely will be back. read more

Not true Mexican food. Coming from El Paso it doesn't come close to Mexican food and expensive.

I used to love this place but over time the food just isn't as good as it used to be and the prices are ridiculous. The next morning I am miserable after eating here and I eat at a lot of Mexican restaurants. Our server Lindsay was rude and horribly ignorant. Everything I ask for she either didn't know if they had it or it just seemed as though I was just a bother to her. Talked over me when I was trying to explain how I'd like my plate prepared etc. I explained to her that I would be paying cash and her response was "oh, okay"....like it was again an inconvenience to her because it wasn't a credit card. She came back 2 times and just stood there waiting for the money and asking me if I was ready yet, just overall a nasty person. I wouldn't recommend her or this place any more, tried to talk to a manager but of course "none were available at the moment" go figure. read more

I will add that from my visit couple of weeks ago with family and an $85 tab...they didn't give me my rewardspoints and that would have made this meal a freebie. I started eating here again with a friend that loves to come here. I have to admit I did an extended absence from Abuelo's b/c i got really sick eating at the Arlington location like 15 years ago. LOL. Yes...15 years is a long long time, but I was that sick that time and it did not make me want to come back. I'm glad I came back. the food is so good here! The green pineappleish salsa is so delicious. Definitely my fave! I had been getting the chicken chorizo dish, but it's no longer on the menu. Last visit, i did get the chicken tortilla soup and some enchiladas...including the avocado enchiladas. OMG! they were SO SO GOOD! Next time I go, i'm going to repeat but get the egg on top of the enchiladas...b/c EGG!! We haven't gone wrong with anything we've ordered yet. Each time we go, we start out with the trio dip, which comes with a plate of chicharones. We've tried something new for our entree each time, and always leave with half of our meal to go, cause there's so much food. Decided to try something new and it was a bust, I've heard different opinions about Abuelo's , but I needed to try for myself, I ordered the beef fajita lunch special, and it smelled so good , but the meat was so chewy , it had lots of nerve endings and I couldn't eat it. The rice was bland so I didn't eat it , and the beans lacked flavor. And I was hungry. I've lost interest in several mexican restaurants, I think I'm gonna just have to make myself what I'm craving from now on. Overall the restaurant is nice , they played music a little loud for lunch time, so you can't really have a conversation with your loved ones. Our waitress was very nice and patient with my elderly family members. The environment was great , the decor was nice, but needs to work on the food. They have lots of parking and also lunch specials. But they didn't have a senior discount. read more
