ACADEMY FORD Maryland. This is another horror story about a dealership that has lost its focus and its ability to do the job right. Not talking about car sales...I'm talking about the MORE IMPORTANT job of taking care of Ford customers after the sale. (You know... after the 'new car smell' has worn off!) Had my 2021 F150 Hybrid (32000 miles and under full warranty) towed there after breaking down on I-95. Initially, the service person did a good job...getting their best electrical mechanic to look into the problem on the first day (day1). After a few hours I was told a major fuse might have blown out. It would be fixed the next day. After 'day 2'... I was told an electrical cable needed to be ordered. It was a 'rush order' and would be there by 'day 3'. On 'day 4'... no cable, no repair, and the mechanic kept saying he wasn't sure what really happened to the system! I watched all day ...as he shuffled back and forth with other jobs, working on my truck about 2 hours total. On 'DAY 5'... again hearing he'd get it running very soon...he informed me he had to order more parts. Told they would be there Sat. 'Day 6'... no parts...no fix. At 2:45pm (they close at 3pm) ...I was told there was a problem with my key fob! The fob needed to download an update... in order to start the car. The mechanic wasn't sure if the update would occur at - 3PM or 3 AM! He quit at 3pm and went home. NO FIX...NO truck - day 6! On Monday, 'DAY 8' ... I went out to my truck at 8AM...saw the hood up, tools/rags/paperwork (from Sat) still laying on the ground and watched as service people went to work on other vehicles. Watched all day...my truck sitting in the parking lot, hood up... and no one working on it. On 'DAY 9'... the head service manager and I finally talked about the situation. He listened carefully. Then he let me know that another cable had to be ordered...and was on 'BACK ORDER' from Detroit. It should be arriving sometime in mid-November! (That would be DAY 20 - DAY 30!) On DAY 9... I CONTACTED A CHARTER COMPANY AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED HOME TO NY on day 10. Another $650 added to the cost of living in MD, being told my truck would be fixed the next day(s)...! Had I been told (honestly) on day 3-4-5 that they didn't know how to fix the truck...I could have save money and been home 5 days earlier! Thanks for lots of wasted time/no fix/loads of extra costs... thanks for NOTHING - I'm fairly certain I won't be getting any vehicle repaired...nor purchasing a new Ford from Academy Ford of Maryland. read more

In May of 2022, I purchased a used 2020 Ford Transit from Academy Ford that was in a flood. This information was not disclosed prior to the sale. Approximately two weeks after purchase, the vehicle broke down and was taken to an out of state Ford dealer for service, that NJ dealer indicated the rear differential of the vehicle needed to be rebuilt and that the van was in overall poor condition. The NJ dealer shared pictures of van's underside showing the vehicle still covered in mud, only visible when on a service lift. I was told the vehicle should not have been sold in its current condition. The van was towed back to Academy Ford and is currently "waiting for parts". This is a service van for a small business, and it has been in the shop for half of the time we have owned it and there is no proposed return date. I believe I was taken advantage of. The vehicle sold to me was misrepresented by Academy Ford. Tom the GM has not returned any of my calls, he turns them back to Irvin, the Sales Manager, who continues to recite the company line that the 'vehicle will be repaired under warranty and there is nothing else they can do at this time, the van is mine and they will not take it back or renegotiate the sale price.' read more

I took my car into Academy Ford, Laurel to replace the water pump which is ridiculously located inside the engine for a cost of $4300. When I received my car back right before closing, there was no fluid in the windshield washer reservoir. I complained immediately the next morning. I had plenty of fluid in the reservoir when it went into the shop. Now they are saying the line is cut and it will cost another $682 to repair. You guys had to remove the whole engine to perform the repair now the hose is severed and you want me to pay for it. They produced a check-in report with two different inks and handwriting, trying to say it was broken already. No sir, it wasn't I use my windshield wipers all the time, usually daily to remove the dew off my windows. read more

Dentists, car mechanics and car salesmen..they are the same breed. You wish you could get rid of them from your lives, but it ain't easy. Academy Ford advertised a car online and we spoke with the manager and agreed on the price. When I drive for 1 hour to get to the dealership, they said that the price was a mistake and quoted something that was $3000 more from the price discussed. I understand mistakes happen, but the least the sales team could have done was sincerely apologize that they made a mistake. Instead they were arrogant and rude. Brian their sales manager was condescending and rude. I had a similar bad experience when I tried to speak with Brians boss. Brian said if I walk out of the dealership without buying the car, they will rectify the mistake and update the online price to reflect $27,200 or something similar, but the car is still listed at the same old price of $24,997. I think its a ploy to lure customers in and lie their way into selling the car. Their slogan is Honesty and Integrity, sadly that's not the case. Overall very disappointing service and customer care. That's the reason why businesses like Carvana are doing well. These dealerships are dishonest, untrustworthy and a hassle. read more

If there was a way to give a zero, I would. This dealership has had my vehicle since the beginning of June. In that time I have received a phone call exactly one time that wasn't initiated by me calling them to get a status. I have been told on multiple occasions that the delay is due to a lack of trained mechanics. However, after talking to Ford directly, they've advised me that there is a recall that defines my issues exactly and provides direction to the dealer to either perform a software upgrade or replace a part (which Ford also confirmed there are 2000+ in stock). I was also told that due to the cyber-attack that FORD had halted all software upgrades until July 1st, which I confirmed with Ford to be true. However, it has since been lifted, here we are in August, and still no vehicle or idea when it will be returned. And of course, following a call yesterday, no response today. They've actually suggested that I take it to another Ford dealer, but tow at my expense (it's under warranty and this is a recall). Ford stated that anyone, including oil change mechanics should be able to perform the software upgrade and it takes about 1 hour to complete, yet they've sat on this vehicle for nearly two months and counting, and left me without a vehicle during that time. They've done zero to try and accommodate, I would avoid this place at all costs. read more

I called to make an appointment for a state inspection of a truck at this location. The earliest appointment was a week out (ok that's fine). I ask the employee on the phone if they needed to know the type of vehicle he said no we will worry about it on your appointment day. I said ok are you sure it's a big truck he said it's fine. Of course I show up today and they immediately say that truck is too tall. So now you it's wasted a week of my life just to tell me it's too tall and I still have to find another location to get a state inspection. How inconsiderate and inconvenient. The staff clearly needs to be retrained if your location can not take any and all vehicles. A simple question of what type of vehicle is it would have fixed this problem. read more

They only have one person dedicated to actually communicating with you about the update on your vehicle so if they happen to have the day off good luck getting a proper response on your vehicle. It's also very difficult to get in contact with someone in general, I literally had to call back 4 times in order to speak with someone and was still left on hold for 10 minutes. The worst part is after finally servicing my vehicle the mechanic left my air filter unattached causing my car to turn off in the middle of traffic!! Talk about dangerous. All The people were great and friendly, "this is more a heads up, and watch what they sale you, and don't explain their coverage on your vehicle truly does. I Recently purchased a 2012 F150, 73000 miles,I have had the truck now for 2 weeks, I knew going in and buying a used vehicle I would end up with some issues. Here's where the long "but" comes in, First After checking out the vehicle, I still purchased it with a "chipped windshield," however the driver side was much more then a chip in the far left corner, during the paper signing the sales person just said," their window repair man would be a few weeks because of the Covid back-up and that I could just take the what ever amount off the purchase price. Which was the lowest amount that would just fix chips, come to find out when I finally got safe lite a week later to come inspect it, they said you'll need a new windshield all together. I called Academy and they said well we already gave you the money off your vehicle. And you can pay us the rest of the amount at dealership cost to fix it. This comes after the first weekend of already needing to drop my truck off to have a grinding in the front end issue, which they replaced no questions asked. And were pretty cool about. So Monday almost 2 weeks having the vehicle, it rains and when I leave for work I notice my headliner is soaked over the back seat, after a few emails, with no reply, I give Academy a call, and I get well for a used vehicle we already used up all the allowed allowance on your first repair, every thing else you will have to cover, keep in mind it's only been 2 weeks. Well now here I am back to where I left off with my old truck getting nickeled and dimed, but now have a car payment to go with it. So I just suggest everyone look over all your used vehicles, and in a timely matter trying to help get a sale done at the end of the month to help the dealer out, you'll get rushed in to buying something that's gonna cause you more issues. Just over a week later I received a phone call from Tom Woods the General Manager and we spoke for a very long time. The gist of the conversation is that we understood each other and I was going to let him try to find the car I wanted. After some thought I gave him my list of wants and wishes. A little over a week later he called and asked if my wife and I could come in and see this vehicle. I think at this point my wife had lost all faith in Academy Ford and really didn't want to go. We arrived a little late on Monday evening and Tom had waited on us. He showed us the car, my wife drove it. We looked at the price which was a fair price for the what he brought us. It was missing one item that I realized I really wanted and honestly needed on the vehicle; a tow package. Tom was not sure if he could get it but said he would let us know. He called me the following morning and told me that he could have it installed and how much it would cost. I conferred with my wife and we decided that this was the best vehicle to meet our needs right now. By now the polite and upfront treatment we received from not only Tom, but every one (including the manager involved in the earlier deal) had swung her back in favor of Academy Ford. They continued to treat us really politely throughout the entire process. Even after the sale and we had gone home, I realized I had left all of my CD's in the truck I traded in. They found the truck for me and had my CD's in hand the next day for me to come and pick up. That was the above and beyond moment for me. They easily could have told me sorry we can't help you, but they didn't. This is the dealership I grew up trusting buying from. I brought my vehicle in on a Saturday morning because the Sync system crashed. Since I had an appointment, I planned to wait while the service was performed but was told that it would be quite a while as they were very busy. I inquired about shuttle service and was told it was not available that day. No worries, I had a friend to pick me up. It was determined that my APIM module was defective and needed to be replaced. Daniel informed me that this is a known Ford issue. He said that a new part would need to be ordered and could take up to three days to come. Because the Edge is my only mode of transportation, I could not leave it with him for three days. He suggested that I pick the car up, he would order the part on Monday, and give me a call when he received the part so that we could schedule a new appointment. Daniel called me on Tuesday to let me know that he would need the car so that he could disassemble the defective part and provide information from it to the supplier. He went on to say that he would need to keep the car until the new part arrived. My first issue is that I was told the part would be ordered on Monday. Apparently it was not until Tuesday that he attempted to order it. The second issue is that when I inquired about a loaner car, I was told that they didn't provide loaner cars but there was an Enterprise rental car agency across the street from them. I can't understand why I should be so greatly inconvenienced by a "known Ford issue". I called another dealership and was provided with a loaner car, efficient service reps and great service overall. Although Academy Ford is the nearest Ford dealer to me, I will never return again. read more

He could not find the vehicle anywhere. He then asked another salesman, he stated that the service manager took the vehicle for the weekend to move. Colin told me he would call me as soon as it returned (thinking Monday). Two weeks later Colin called to tell me it was back. Really? They obviously didn't;t want to sell the Flex. No thank you. Since purchasing my Escape back in May 2012 here I figure this will be my go to place for oil changes. The first time I went here my oil change was free. The next couple times I've had to pay. The last time it was free so I am not sure how the cost is decided. But hey, why complain for getting anything for free?! Came in on a Monday around 3 since the last service time is 4 and they do walk ins which is great. Generally with no line you're waiting for about 45 min which isn't too bad since there's a tv in the waiting room and they so give you the wifi password while you wait. The dealer was adamant that they added transportation / destination fees after the fact to all deals. So, your charging people twice for transportation? Aaargh. Recently I visited this dealership as I have done for years first I have dealt with their service advisor Mr D been there for awhile ,to me he is the most honest Service advisor that you can meet so I have never had a need to call or talk to Service Director because everything was always done fair and correct but recently I had some major work done and developed a costly problem.
