Honesty folks the food is great and greatly priced. The reason for my 1 star review is because of the guy that prepares the orders.. This restaurant isn't pretty big so the kitchen is on full display to patrons.. the issue I have revolves around food safety. I have watched him prepare order after order. He usually wears 1 glove on his left hand but does EVERYTHING with his right hand! I've seen him pick up raw chicken breast to put on the grill then use the SAME hand to pick up lettuce to plate or sprinkle cheese on an order.. That is completely disgusting and unsanitary! He picks up the onions, cilantro and limes the same way. He even does it occasionally for the shredded lettuce.. you guys seriously need to do better because patrons can really become sick by this.. You don't OCCASIONALLY use tongs USE them ALL the time and put ones where you don't have them lines, onions etc..Wash your hands after you handle raw meat!! Why should this need to be told to you?? Eh Food here is very fresh, but the ingredients are of poor quality. The meat is generally tough and gristly. Most of the dishes are very heavy. My wife doesn't like ordering from here because of that, but when we do, she usually orders the veggie burrito, which is decent. It's good munchies food, but nothing super special. I can't recommend this place enough! So cheap considering how delicious the food is. There's a metal venue right next door, so you get a colorful crowd of headbangers. Feels very 90s, and the prices seem to be stuck in another decade too. If I didn't live a block away I would still come here. Go for the tacos rancheros if you are in the mood for some rich, greasy goodness. The acapulco burrito is nice if you need a veggie fix. I would steer clear of the nachos unless you came with a dozen people since the portions are so huge! read more

5 stars ALL DAY LONG. Authentic little Mexican diner. I get chicken mole enchiladas here every time (I'm always on the hunt for a nice mole). They are perfect. Served with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, radish. Wouldn't change a thing. The staff are brusque and efficient. I believe that this is how all staff at diners should treat customers. It's a diner, not a fancy restaurant, and they are busy. So basically you are treated the way that, deep down, you know, in your heart of hearts, you deserve to be treated. Note that they serve beer from fridges in the back. They also serve carrot juice as a beverage, which is strange but maybe it's a Mexican tradition? I'm not sure, but thought you should know. They also serve "Morir Soñando" which is a mix of orange juice and milk. Google translate says that it means "To die dreaming". This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in North Brooklyn. My buddy wants to meet for dinner tonight at another of my favorite restaurants, but I'm going to bate and switch on him and get him to eat at Acapulco. I NEED THOSE FAJITAS! *Updated - We ate there. It was phenomenal. I used to only get takeout when I lived in Greenpoint. This was the first time I actually ate at Acapulco. The portions are larger (wow, so much food!) and better by default. The only thing is the service. No matter how many times I have been there, the woman never seems to remember me or care enough to (I used to get takeout at least 1x, sometimes 2x per week). This place is great. As you experience more places in Williamsburg and Greenpoint you being to realize that the more authentic and non-hipster places are the best bets. While Papacitos has great food, they are expensive and and when they deliver the food always comes cold. The food at Acapulco great, especially the fajitas! The best part is, you will leave with a leftover bag and tons of extra cash in your pocket! The place is SPOTLESS, the bathroom is ALWAYS clean and you can see right into the kitchen, which is immaculate. I just love a clean restaurant. Breakfast is my favorite meal here, which they serve til 3pm on weekends!! The Acapulco breakfast is good, and the Mexican Omelette. Green sauce is delicious!!! And the guacamole is PERFECT!!! Hipsters can keep their brunch spots where you have to wait an hour to eat, and a side of bacon cost $6. I had quesadillas de camarones here and it was absolutely no bueno. The vegetables were steamed along with shrimps, instead of grilling them. I usually don't mind steamed vegetables but not in my quesadillas. I can tell they use frozen vegetable mix because of the way carrots were cut and also there were broccolis in my quesadillas! The name Acapulco lured me into ordering Mexican food, thinking they must have a good seafood selection but that was just a trap. I should have known when they said they didn't have ceviche or cocktail shrimp. My friend had chicken tacos and they were also no bueno. Breakfast is very good, if you can make it in the time they serve it and they happen to be open. The opening hours are erratic, and the staff is absolutely unaccommodating if you show up a minute after 11 am. It seems that realistically they serve breakfast for 1 hour these days. The search for decent Mexican food in NYC is disappointing, to say the least. Mexican Radio is ok but not all that authentic. Marrianne's, ditto. Rocking Horse, too loud! So who knew that one of the tastiest places in NYC sits towards the end of Manhattan Ave., near Newtown Creek in Greenpoint?!?! $3 beers, a plate of steak nachos split between 2 people and you're all set. Feels like you're back on Olvera St., the birthplace of Los Angeles. The Huaraches (sp?) are divine, I think we get the spicy chorizo, very filling, can easily feed two, and it's not for the calorie counter. I am up to almost 2 nights a week at Acapulco and geez, it's the best. Burgers, Tortas, Egg and Cheese, what have you. It all just kicks so much ass. Like most Californians living in New York, it's become something of a hobby for me and my roommates to bemoan the lack of decent Mexican food to be had on this coast. That said, there is a real lack of decent Mexican food to be had on this coast. For example, when I order steak fajitas and instead of onions and bell on the skillet you bring me carrots? That is outrageous. Acapulco does not pull that nonsense. For a reasonable price they brought me two very tasty soft tacos. I wanted one soft and one hard taco, but they wouldn't do it (which kind of bothered me...I mean, how hard is it?) The tacos were overflowing with pork, and I also ordered a side of rice and pinto beans. Neither was the best thing I've ever eaten- the pork was a little dry, and I could have used some cheese and/or sour cream, but the meat did have a nice authentic Mexican flavor. My roommates thought the steak on their tacos was a little dry as well. We also shared chips and guacamole, and the chips were fresh from the fryer, hot and crispy. The guac was a nice consistency with plenty of chunks of avocado. Unfortunately, Acapulco stops delivery a couple of blocks from my apartment, and it's a tad too far (about a mile) to walk to very often, so I don't know how likely I am to become a regular customer. But it's comforting knowing that when nothing but Mexican food will do there's at least an option. read more

Best hidden value for your buck in Greenpoint. Always surprise to see the bill for what you had. The list of menu is spelled out on the wall. kewl. Service is quite fast and you get what you expect from a diner but in american+mexican. I can not get over the price of cheese burger $3.50. You see the kitchen right thru the long counter and the kitchen is better maintained than most other diners.
