This used to be my go-to place for smog test. Today, I brought my 2017 Porsche in for its semi-annual smog test. He refused to test the vehicle, saying that he cannot inspect the engine. He offered no solution, other than to go to a shop that was willing to risk their license. Turns out they had smogged the car before according to their own records. He said the rules changed in 2022. Of most importance, he was confrontational and rude. I later checked and there are work-arounds like using mirrors, etc. and worst case, removing the engine cover. None of these were offered or suggested. My mechanic knew of all of these and offered to help. read more

My complaint with this place is the price. They are twice as expensive as any other smog check. I paid $70! Other places are $35 and $40. Don't waste your money here. They stick a tube in the tail pipe and push some buttons. Sorry, not worth $70. I walked out of there feeling completely ripped off. read more

I have been having my vehicles smog done hear for over a decade and Paul has always gone above and beyond to give the best service. I have several vehicles that he takes care of for me. I have never had to wait longer than 20 minutes for them to complete my smog and he has never sent me away saying he cant do a vehicle (so I don't know what that negative review is about). I used to own a 1990 F250 with a 460 factory big block that had no modifications and had a place tell me that it could not be smogged. That was when I first met Paul. He explained to me that there was special software and equipment required to do that smog and he completed it no problem. Not only does Paul have the latest equipment and tech, he is a gifted mechanic and knows about cars. He didn't just get a smog license and open up shop. I returned to this, my favorite and only smog test station, today because the DMV required a smog test for the first time since I purchased the car new in August 2015. I arrived without an appointment (none needed), and parked in the one handicap spot across from the entrance. When I walked in, I greeted Paul, the owner, and he immediately said something about the car I tested last time, in 2010! (Ford Probe GT) My only car now is a 2015 Dodge Charger SXT Rallye. After the customer who arrived just before I did had his Prius tested and left, Paul pulled my car into the test bay. As last time with a different car, the test was quickly completed and I received the certification from Paul. I will turn that in along with the certification from the dealer (Normandin) for the recall that was completed on the emission system when I visit the DMV in person (required). The cost was a fair one, and I know from reading the reviews on Yelp, as well as from my personal experience with Paul, that everything will be done by the book, correctly. I'm sure he has to turn away some cars for various reasons, often related to owner modifications which are not legal, and I am glad this is an honest place to do business. Regardless of what you may read in some other reviews, as a Yelp Elite reviewer for the past 8+ years I stand behind my reviews, including this one. You will be happy with your smog test if you bring your vehicle to Paul's business. Thanks again, Paul, for another great experience! I have done business with Accurate Smog Check for many years, including six vehicles yearly. However, recently things have changed greatly. I brought in my 2006 car and was told it would take about an hour. I went to Starbucks to get a coffee. When I came back, the owner, Paul, was very rude and told me that he would not do the smog check Because the car was too old to be in his computer. Of course he didn't bother to call me or text me while I was waiting. He said it would just take too long to look up the information. I took my car to the Chevron station on Winchester. Amar, the owner, took the time to look up the information and I was issued my certificate. Paul not only wasted my time, was rude and dismissive, but he had done the smog check on that vehicle for the previous several years without problem. Many people use this service because they think it's cheaper, but it's really not. Beware of this rude and unprofessional business that is unwilling to invest any extra time if you have anything even remotely out of the ordinary. read more

Historical Context: I've been coming exclusively to this place for the better part of 10 years for all my smog needs for all my previous vehicles (1992 Suburban, 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2003 Subaru WRX, & 2000 C5 Corvette) TL;DR: First things first, the front deck receptionist was very helpful & polite. Accurate Smog does not deal with or want to deal with any cars with modifications or tunes of any kind whether or not you have a CARB EO# handy. After quickly looking at my corvette's engine bay, (who I presume is) the owner came storming into the lobby where I was sitting to tell me quite 'passionately' that my vehicle "isn't anything he wanted to smog" and to "take it somewhere less picky". I tried to explain my situation and get some more info about what I needed to do to rectify the situation, but it was clear that the owner was frustrated with me for some reason (due to his tone and shortness with me) so I just politely thanked him and left. He didn't give me a chance to share the full story, so here it is: Full Story My 2000 C5 Corvette has a California Air Resources Board-approved A&A Supercharger system (Part# AAC-C5Vortech with EO# D-707) that was installed by a reputable local shop (TPS Motorsports in Santa Clara) in 2020. I've never had any issues and everything was done by the book with a tune directly from A&A as it was covered under the CARB EO#. Outside of the supercharger kit, I have a CA legal axleback exhaust (Part# FCOR-0100) and a new rear differential from RPM Transmissions. Everything else on this car is bone stock (exterior picture & picture of CARB approval documentation attached to this review). Unfortunately, in August of 2021 I was T-boned at an intersection in Milpitas by an uninsured motorist who badly ran a red light. My car had been in the shop for many months due to COVID-related supply chain issues and availability of some hard to find parts. The car's registration expired in December and I had to smog it this time around, but because it was in the shop I was not able to smog it. I paid my registration on time and planned to smog it as soon as I got it back from the shop. I got the car back from the shop this weekend (3/18) and cleared some historic codes (denoted with an 'H' after the code in the manual diagnostics dashboard menu of my car) and made sure to put a good amount of mixed driving miles on it to ensure it was emissions testing ready. Over the course of about 3 days I put ~75 miles on the car (highway/city driving) so I figured it was ready to take in for a smog check and of course I would take it to Accurate Smog Check as I've only been coming here for at about the last 10 years or so. I fill out my paperwork and explain a bit of the situation to the receptionist about my car being in the shop for many months due to an accident and that everything under the hood was CARB approved and that I had my EO# if needed. She was very polite & jotted down notes for the Smog tech. About 5 minutes later the Smog Tech/perceived Owner stormed into the lobby and emphatically told me, "your car isn't anything we want to smog" and to "take it somewhere less picky". He seemed frustrated with me, and I was taken back by that as I didn't think I had done anything wrong/sketchy/out of the ordinary. I asked what the issue was and he stated that there were no CARB stickers (totally legit concern) and I tried to share that I had the EO# and pdf of the actual EO listing the approved equipment and that the bumper/driver side fender were replaced due to my accident and the body shop must not have transferred the EO stickers to the new parts, but he just kept speaking over me telling me "my car wasn't anything they would touch" and to "go somewhere less picky". I was at a loss so I just thanked the man and politely left feeling flabbergasted about the whole situation. I left feeling defeated despite trying to do everything by the book. Final Thoughts I totally understand & empathize that smog check places probably see lots of sketchy stuff from people trying to get their vehicles to pass smog with illegal equipment. I am not that guy and am a rule follower to a 'T". I also totally understand & respect the fact that who I presume to be the owner of the shop has the reputation of his business to uphold. I do however, wish that I wouldn't have been viewed as a nuisance and had the owners frustration taken out on me (someone who happens to be very concerned about doing things the right way and a long-time customer) and I wish I wasn't spoken over so that I could have explained the full situation (body panels replaced etc... ) so that I could have been given advice on what steps to take to get my vehicle up to snuff for this and future smog checks. I will be working with the shop that installed the CARB-approved parts to get new CARB stickers for my engine bay. All in all a flabbergasting experience and I'll be taking my vehicles elsewhere moving forward read more

I've used Accurate Smog for all of our cars for many years. They are efficient, courteous and competitively priced. A few years ago, my Check Engine light would not turn off. I had work done on it earlier at my auto shop where they had to disconnect the battery. Accurate Smog explained how this could cause the emissions system to need to reset itself. After talking to my auto shop and following their instructions my emissions system reset itself. Accurate Smog retested my car for free and it passed! What a relief!! I have an 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS. Usually, 1 of 3 things happen when I go looking for a smog check for this vehicle. 1. I'm told immediately that they do not service Ferrari's 2. I'm told to drop the car off and wait a few days for a smog check 3. I'm told it will cost 3 to5x more then a normal car from the same vintage year I'm thrilled to report that was not my experience at Accurate Smog. They warmly extended their service for my vehicle. I drove down, waited about 20/25 minutes and was told my vehicle is ready. I paid the posted bracket price for the year my vehicle was manufactured. It was easy to see he was comfortable around my vehicle. I spoke to the gentleman in the shop. He's a nice straightforward guy. I used to like this shop, I don't think I'm going to bring my business here any more after my visit today. Brought my '99 Miata in for a smog check since I'm going to be doing a title transfer on it. I was told that they wouldn't do the check on the car because it was showing that monitors for catalyst and EGR weren't ready. That's totally fair, which I get and I would have been happy with that. (The car threw a CEL last Friday night, the CEL went away but I guess I haven't really completed a full drive cycle on it yet.) After that, the tech then went on a rant at me about how the car had the wrong exhaust on it because there's only one cat, not two and there was no California emissions sticker under the hood. He was emphatic that somebody must have installed an earlier Miata exhaust on the car and refused to even listen as I explained that the car, a 1999 Mazda Miata that I purchased in Colorado was equipped with, for that year, Federal emissions equipment which means that, from the factory it only ever had a single catalytic converter and never had a CA emissions equipment sticker under the hood. He also refused to listen to me when I tried to explain that throughout its life none of the exhaust components have been changed. The car in question has been legally registered in California since 2005 and has been smogged at this shop at least twice before. The reason for my one star review is this last bit, getting rejected out of hand and told off that my car has modifications it doesn't have just because the tech can't grock that, sometimes, cars are brought into California from out of state. If you've got an older out of state car that still needs to be smogged here in California, find a different shop. read more

I came here because I had a coupon, and because of the high ratings on Yelp. I called them the morning of to see if they were open, and they were! I came on a Saturday morning around 9am, and there was one person ahead of me, and one person behind me. They got some basic info from me and looked at my smog check paperwork from the DMV. They told me it would be done in about 30 minutes. Guess what, about 30 minutes later, my car was done! Fast and efficient, just how I like things done!
