After a 24 hour power outage due to a neighbor who neglected to address a tree in his yard that'd been dead for 3 years, my dryer seemed to have bit the dust. My initial thought was "great, a power surge fried my dryer" and started looking around for an honest and reputable repairman who would come and diagnose the issue. After some browsing I called Ace and left a message. Within an hour or so Stan was calling me back, I explained what had happened and what was going on with my dryer and we set up a timeframe for the following day so he could come out and take a look. He told me he'd also text me when he was about 30 minutes away. The next morning I get a text from Stan to let me know he was on his way, he showed up right on time and instantly got to work. Within a few minutes he had figured out what was wrong with my dryer, the motor was overheating due to ball bearings locking up, and it was just a happy coincidence that it crapped out right after the power outage. He explained to me that he could order a new motor and fix it, but he was also very honest about the fact that by the time he factored in his labor on top of the cost of the motor, and the possibility he may still need other parts once he opened up the dryer, that I was probably better off just buying a new one. He told me which dryers to avoid due to them needing constant service, and also told me what to keep an eye out for to get the best bang for my buck. He was very friendly and informative and not pushy at all which was AMAZING. On top of that I told him I'd write him a check for the service call rate and he told me not to worry about since the dryer was shot and I was just going to buy a new one. What a stand up guy! Not that I'm hoping for other appliance failures, but one thing is for sure, if it happens, I will definitely be calling Stan. I was distraught when my super fancy 5-year-old high efficiency front loading washing machine died in the middle of a load of cloth diapers. First of all... lets just talk about EMERGENCY when the refrigerator just STOPS WORKING!!!! SO I called around and of course did my pricing and tried to get a scheduled appointment and the earliest anyone could see my refrigerator was maybe 2-3 days out. (It was Monday and I needed it Monday not THURSDAY!)... Well after calling folks and not really feeling successful... I called Ace Appliance Service (which is a very new company I might add... because there were absolutely no reviews to base anything off) and I stated my dilemma to the - assumed owner- Stan. Of course I was ready to write down the day he figured he would come out and mentally making notes of what I needed to cancel two days out... and shockingly ... Stan said he could do it that day... *let the heaven gates open up*... Stan showed up in less than an hour (talk about speedy service)... and he was very polite and professional. I'm a young, female, homeowner - so I'm constantly worried about getting ripped off on home repairs. But I never have to worry with Ace! They've come to fix my fridge twice now (2 separate issues) with excellent service both times. They charge just a $55 service fee, but it's applied towards labor if that's needed. And they always quote to me how much the parts and labor will be before moving forward with anything. This most recent time I've had an on-going issue with my refrigerator leaking sporadically. I initially called another appliance company, and when they came out they basically told me that it could be this or that, but really they didn't know since they aren't able to see the actual leak occurring (which I told them on the phone they probably won't see it since it was only happening sporadically). This other company still came out, recommended that I defrost my entire refrigerator, and if that didn't work, I could pay for a SECOND service visit where they would come back out and make another guess. Needless to say that did not make me happy. So I gave Ace a call, and they were much more helpful from the minute he walked through the door. Stan was down on the floor poking around all the pieces in the fridge (which the other company didn't even do!). And then diagnosed the issue (it had to do with the water filter). The first time I called, no one returned my call. At least a couple of months later I decided to call again because I really needed my refrigerator fixed. This time I heard back. Rather than spend a few hundred replacing the panel and electronics, he helped remove the button so that I could reach in and activate the button behind it. I was perfectly fine with that set-up and started writing him a check, but he insisted on staying and rigging up a replacement button for me out of spare parts. Stan was outstanding. When our dryer stopped working on Christmas (perfect timing, lol), we thought the worst and never expected to get it repaired over the holidays. Stan replied within an hour of leaving him a message, and had time available for a next day appointment. He asked intelligent questions prior to arriving and quoted an accurate price for the service call. The next day when it was time for the service, he texted a confirmation and showed up within minutes afterwards. He was able to quickly and easily identify the problem, and even showed me how to perform some basic service myself so we would not have to call him unless it was something serious. He took his time to explain everything - even drawing schematic diagrams that would make an electrical engineer proud. I remembered that we were also having issues with our dishwasher, so he immediately went over and fixed that problem as well for only a nominal additional cost over the original service call. Very pleased with the whole experience. Would heartily recommend to anyone. About 10 days ago, my 11 year-old Kenmore HE2 dryer started making a loud squealing sound. Youtube videos showed me that this repair was well beyond my DIY skills. I was going to call Sears about the repair, but their $99 fee and bad Yelp reviews turned me away, so I gave Ace Appliance a call after seeing them here. I left a message and did not hear back. I liked the reviews, so 2 days later I left a second message (Thursday) and got a text back from Stan within an hour. He quoted me $55 for the home call (applied to the repair, which I was not sure Sears would do) and was available the next Tuesday. He called me 10 minutes before my scheduled window and was here at exactly the time he promised. The repair went perfectly. After disassembling my dryer, he showed me what he was doing and why (replacing everything in the maintenance kit instead of only the one broken part because of the labor involved). It was clearly the logical choice because my dryer was completely taken apart (as required by the design - see above regarding Youtube videos showing this was beyond my DIY skill). He was done in an hour and the price was very fair ($120 labor, $45 parts). He left the old parts and the dryer sounded great. He asked how I found him, so I told him (Yelp) and that I was going to be leaving a review right away. Seriously, I cannot recommend this company enough. If he had charged me $50 more, this review would be just as glowing. read more
