I keep giving this place a chance, because their flavors are great and their sides are amazing. Every time I get the brisket, it is the drier than it was the time before. To me, a good bite of brisket, should be like a good bite of steak, no sauce required. Here sauce is required so there is enough moisture in your mouth to swallow. Same with ribs. The smoked chicken was not terribly dry and was flavorful and the fried chicken had solid flavor but was again dry. Now back to those sides...the beans are very flavorful and the collards are perfect. Wolf's Fixings needs to come here and to get side tips and this place needs to go there for brisket tips. So a little disappointed. I wanted to order their amazing nachos with the pulled chicken on them. As you can see on the menu board and it's on the menu. Well, at the register we were advised, "we don't serve them here, only the Crozet location." So my wife recommended that they be lined out or taken off the menu option, we were told by the cashier, "I have no control over that" and when suggested he lets the manager or own know, a reply of "yeah" and a chuckle was under his breath. The restaurant is still clean and well presentable but the friendliness and excitement from the employees is lacking from before when the Crozet location was not open. So as for the food now, disappointment continues. The French Fries, as pictured and video, are not cooked all of the way. The pulled chicken is dry and over cooked. The sides are 1/2 the previous sizes, look at the pictures, and the side of chicken salad for $5 is not even enough for a sandwich. Guess it's time to look for another BBQ place to go to since $45 equates to uncooked food and 1/2 servings....rather disappointing when I was such a fan. If this is fixed, I will update but for now...maybe it's back to Vision BBQ downtown Charlottesville. read more

Place: It's probably a little off the beaten path for most folks but it can be seen from a main thoroughfare. Either way, it's worth the drive. The inside is bright and clean. People: you order at a counter and someone drops off your food. That doesn't leave a lot of room for interaction but the young lady who took our order was nice. Product: it's not the best bbq I've ever had in my life but it is absolutely the best I've had in this area. Here's the breakdown of what we've eaten so far: Ribs - flavorful but cooked too long. The inside was tender but the outside was tough. Turkey - delicious and tender Pulled pork - tender, juicy, a teeny bit salty in a few spots but very good overall. Chicken nuggets - hard French fries - not memorable Roasted cauliflower - DELISH!! Broccoli salad - ok Cheesy potatoes- very tasty Collard greens - salty, too soft, tasted like they came from a can Cornbread - cold and thick, but soft and sweet. May have been much better warmed with a little butter. Nutshell: If I'm not up to a three hour tour for some ZZQ, I've found my quick stop BBQ spot. read more

Visited this place a couple of months ago. The food was pretty ok, the portions are on the small side. The service was not great. The music was loud, people dining couldn't carry on their conversation. They had to ask for it to be turned down. I would suggest greeting customers instead of talking to your co-workers. The service was pretty good but when I asked what the best BBQ sauce was, they said it was the blackberry and you wouldn't be able to taste the fruit. Glad to have a location in CVille and a BBQ restaurant in the northern end of Albemarle county. Smoked has a good selection of meats, sides, and sauces. Personal favorites include the pulled pork, fried chicken, baked beans, Mac and cheese, and potato salad. Lots of sauces to choose from, but the Carolina and Low Country Mustard stood out since sweet is not my thing. And the cornbread was awesome. read more

A very impromptu stop. It doesn't look inviting from the street, but open the door to a smiling face at the counter. We ordered the deviled eggs - as recommended on IG. We stopped by Smoked Kitchen on Route 29 on our way into Charlottesville for a quick bite, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. I got the pulled chicken "Pick One", which was a tray with pulled chicken, two sides, cornbread, and a sauce of my choice. The pulled chicken itself was flavorful and moist. I got the VA blackberry sauce, which tasted pretty similar to a traditional barbecue sauce to me. For sides, I got the sweet potato fries and coleslaw. The sweet potato fries were good, but I wish there were more of them! They were well seasoned and nice and crispy. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw (I like vinegar based coleslaws, not mayo). I wouldn't have gotten it if there was an indication on the website that it was mayo based. The cornbread was standard, but a little on the sweet side for me. Our food was ready very quickly, and overall the portion sizes were great. We also got a jar of the homemade dill pickles to try, which were delicious.
