The best, best, best, customer service ever! And, I train healthcare professionals in the art of patient care aka customer service! A few days ago I accidentally broke a precious little silicone hummingbird that hung in my window. I tried super glue. Useless. I tried again. Still useless. As a last resort I took it to my local ACE Hardware and that's where I luckily met Stewart Sella. Stewart didn't tell me how to go and fix it. Instead he took my hummingbird, walked me back to his department, got some different, stickier stuff, applied it and. . . that didn't work either. I figured we were done and too bad for me. But NO! Stew took it home. Drilled two small holes in the body of the bird, installed two tiny plugs that connected the two pieces ROCK SOLID! It's perfect!!! PERFECT!!!! My husband and I love going to this Ace. We recently brought in 2 large screen doors to have new ones made. James is amazing. We don't live in PS full time so we expected to leave them and pick up in a week or 2. At the time, James didn't have another job so he started ours right away. He got them done the same day. There was a minor adjustment needed on one of the doors and he was able to make it promptly. The price was good also. We highly recommend James and Ace. read more

Grumpy employees and absurdly high prices aside, my concern is some hyper-vigilance on the part of staff looking for shoplifters. Once in the recent past, my attractive stylish 70ish wife was anxiously approached by an employee who seemed convinced by his demeanor that she was a shoplifter. Then yesterday, while I was looking for wall anchors, she killed time by strolling the aisles and then waited for me by the front door. An employee approached her with a smirk and asked "Sticky Fingers?" This is appallingly bad customer service. Arrogance run amok. Besides being a very helpful place in general, James Ring, the guy in the back room who fixes stuff, saved me hundreds of dollars! A roller in a sliding screen door had broken. I couldn't fix it myself, so called the biggest screen door place in the valley who came and told me it would be $800 to replace the door, since it was impossible to repair. I guess you could say that James did the impossible - he replaced just the roller, rescreened it just to make it look like new, and it works perfectly. It cost me about $50. You could say that James saved me $750! And he did it with a smile, professionalism, and a sense of humor. Ace really IS the place... read more

I came into Ace Hardware at Smoke Tree Plaza today to get some advice on fixing an old bathroom light/heater cover fixture. It's so old that you can't order a new one. Looking bewildered, one of the always helpful employees offered to help and catching a glimpse of his colleague, James, asked his advice. James immediately looked at my damaged item, found the nut and bolt that he figured would do the job, took it (and me) back to the work area and in a very few minutes installed the nut and bolt and attached the spring that had lost its grip, and I was off. The whole repair cost me 58 cents (actually only 57 cents because I was missing a penny. The cashier said he had a penny in his jar he could contribute). James Ring in the Key Department saved me $400!!! My key fob to my 2008 Lexus broke, I had gone to the car dealership it would have cost me $400 more than what I paid at Ace Hardware Palm Springs. Jame is a GENIUS. He was able to use the guts of my bad key fob inside a key fob he had in stock. James made me a new key fob for only $35! The dealer wanted $435 for a new programmed & cut key fob. I really liked this store and have preferred it over Home Depot or Lowe's; however there are very serious problems here. During a trip to Ace on Saturday March 4, 2023 I spent $76.21 and I was charged $76.21 four times. It took an hour for anyone to figure out how to refund me and my refund won't show up in my account for 4 DAYS. The cashier who waited on me was very pleasant and I kept my cool until I saw I was charged the FOURTH time. The entire incident happened because the cashier was unaware that there was no paper in the receipt printer. As I see it , This isn't so much the failure of the cashier as it is a failure of training. Management wasn't concerned or made aware about my inconvenience until I lost my Shit. I wasn't happy about the experience at all and I'm left SMH wondering if I can ever return to this store because of the entire incident. Plus I feel I should have been offered some form compensation for all my inconvenience; no one even seemed to think of that either; extremely poor customer service. read more

ACE employee Tim H. may be suffering a post-Halloween candy corn comedown. I don't know. I visit ACE a lot, despite it being smaller and overpriced compared to the larger, cavernous Lowes/Home Depot. I've spent easily $1000 at ACE this year alone. Staff are usually so friendly and don't make me feel an idiot for not knowing a hammer from a drill. Yesterday was another story. Tim H rang up my items and when i didn't have my $7 coupon in hand he said it couldn't be applied. I asked if he could see the coupon in my member account- i come here a lot; Tim said no; I needed a hard copy coupon. Old school. I asked if i could leave my items and go get the hard copy. "We close soon". He then acted surprised when i decided to cancel my entire order due to the missing $7 coupon. I said I'd return later with it. I then offered to return a large container He had rung up back to the aisle where i found it... as I did this, I heard Tim behind me snarkily say to a coworker "Really? To save 7 dollars?" Punctuated by a puff of annoyance. As I exited, I told Tim H I'd overheard what he said, adding that $7 dollars is dinner for a lot of people. Tim doesn't know my life, or if i recently lost a job. Would he have behaved so contemptuously to a single mother returning items she couldn't afford after he's rung her up? He made me feel like Debra winger in terms of endearment!! (The only upside to this embarrassment) Was it necessary to comment on how cheap I am? Isn't it better to save your derision for the break room, or roll your eyes as you gossip about penny pinchers while uncorking the Chateaux Margot? At the larger, less expensive hardware chains (where i clearly belong) I'll have to Google what a hammer is, but at least I won't be judged for being that annoying coupon-clipping cheapskate. read more

Today I had the task of going to the hardware store and getting six toggle bolts... It wasn't a big deal but I was dreading it... Putting on my mask, wandering around the store... And I'm no stranger to hardware stores but I generally don't like them... Home Depot seems cavernous and impersonal, and Lowe's seems impenetrable sometimes. Not knowing the store well, I was happy when A gentleman named John asked if he could help... He showed me to where I needed to be and spent about 15 minutes searching for the toggle bolts that would be just right to suit my project... The total of my bill came to under four dollars...At a time when it's easy to feel anonymous and unimportant, The extra care in time John spent meant a whole lot to me. read more

After researching many options, we bought a Weber natural gas grill at Ace in Palm Springs. When it was delivered we discovered we did not have the right fittings to connect the gas hose to the gas line. Very frustrating! We went back to the store and Greg identified from a photo of the gas line and valve the multiple parts (and sizes) we needed. They were exactly what we needed, and we were able to use the grill right away as we hoped. This isn't the first time we've had great customer service at Ace but this time is worth writing about! read more

This store doesn't need to exist. You can buy anything in this store for 2-4x less online and have it delivered to your door in a day. Literally all they have going for them is customer service, and instead they try to humiliate and publicly shame their female customers. I wasn't asking for help, I just wanted to be left alone to shop quickly. Instead your very elderly employee dotters uncomfortably close to me, asks what I'm looking for, LAUGHS AT ME when I say the product name wrong, and then calls out to another elderly male employee to ask if he's ever heard of it so they can BOTH double over laughing at me and loudly say "Guess they haven't invented THAT yet ha ha ha!" so that everyone can hear. I left and bought the product with my phone in my car in less than two minutes. I will never be back. There is absolutely no reason for harassment of female clients to still be happening. Easily the best hardware store on the planet. It's all about the people that work there - they are so knowledgeable and kind, but most importantly they are EVERYWHERE. You can't go 10 feet without someone asking you if you need help, and, let's be honest, most of us need help at a hardware store. Running around the vast aisles of Home Depot or Lowe's looking for help is no fun, and those folks only seem to know one department - everyone at this Ace seems to know everything! The prices are also reasonable - I haven't found their prices to be much different than the big box stores. Some of the decor is pricey, but the core hardware stuff is well-priced especially when matched with incredible service (often they tell me I need less stuff than I thought!). I recently fixed up a place that is a very short walk to Ace Hardware. It was so convenient to have Ace nearby to shop for paint, shelf liner, and a few kitchen items. I also bought a fire extinguisher and made keys. I found the staff to be very helpful and available, compared to the big box stores where I usually have a hard time finding anyone to help me. Sure, some things will cost you a little more than at the big box stores, but to me it's a no-brainer to shop at Ace for the convenience and immediate access to assistance. Wow! Wow! I've been here a few times since moving here about 1.5 months ago. The store is so much more than a hardware store with awesome patio furniture and decorations, kitchen fun and garden fun. It's a really fun store to wander down EVERY aisle! But! Today's visit, I needed help finding a specific screw for my German-made sewing machine and John L. did not disappoint! He helped me for so long trying different options and this was after he was ridiculously patient while I took the base off and thought I may have just ruined my entire machine. John was SO nice and SO helpful and even explained how to perfectly put a piece together before putting my machine base back on. Had I not spent some more money in here previously, I may have felt bad about this visit that only entailed a screw, 3 tiny $1 bulbs, a torx screwdriver, and a tiny .49 cent paint brush. This was the most helpful visit to any hardware store ever! Thank you so much, John L and Will for helping me today! There are many things to say: extremely well stocked and organized. And sales assistance-whew it is the best I've ever experienced in a hardware store. No put-downs for being a woman (thinking you don't know what you are talking about) only the salesperson asking for me to explain what I need and almost always offering to walk me to the item. Rarely cannot I find what I need and yes I may pay a bit more than Home Depot or Lowes but! I asked for one, the guy had never heard of it, took me to a wall of similar products and said, no we don't have that one you're looking for...He never did suggest a replacement; just seemed kind of clueless. When checking out, the elderly female cashier put the two items near* my reusable bag but failed to actually bag them. When she told me the amount and I was getting the money ready, she just stood there and stared out into space, NOT BAGGING THE TWO ITEMS I GOT! As I was putting my change away, she (instead of bagging the items) started the next order while I was still standing there. That is so rude...
