As far as I can determine, Action Surplus is and has been the "best supplied" retailer of honest military surplus items to be found in the entire county. At times, Dave can seem a bit crusty, but he's an older gentleman and that's just how he is - but truth be known, he's a very nice guy and very helpful to boot. The store? Well, I've yet to find a better stocked supply of genuine military-quality goods. They will pretty much have what you need, so long as you are willing to spend the time to look. Along with all of the expected inventory, Dave has some "bargain-bin items where he sells overstock items at truly incredible prices. Visit this store when you have the extra time to dig, and thoroughly look around. The owner prices items entirely on what he has to pay for his inventory. What that means is that sometimes "well worn" items may be mixed in a bin with brand new items that are actually priced lower. It's up to the buyer to do their due diligence in inspecting your purchase - which is why it's SURPLUS. Action also stocks and sells a lot of brand new clothing and gear that can be a bit pricey compared to buying the same items on-line. But if it's something you really need, then spending a few extra dollars for the privilege to inspect and try on your purchase, then it's well worth it. Many customers are there to buy for cosplay or paintball combat. My focus (and viewpoint for this review) is to purchase mil-spec quality tools and gear because it lasts many times longer than cheap Chinese crap that is sold everywhere else. read more

The shop was a lot to take in. There was a good amount of merchandise but the organization was lacking a little. Went by looking for some pants and a jacket for my son and had a plethora of options. I hadn't been in here for a long time, so I decided to go in today. As always, the people were very, very friendly and helpful. Lots and lots of military clothes, other military gear, camping gear, lots of stuff. One thing I was surprised, was they even have MREs. And, they are only eight bucks apiece. Very reasonable. I bought three of them. I got the spaghetti, the sweet-and-sour chicken with rice, and the pork and tomato sauce with rice. They are 1000% better than the ones that were out when I was in. The pork and tomato sauce was a little bit spicy, but it was delicious. It also had a cracker with peanut butter, and a " sweet potato grape smoothie." As weird as it sounded, it was great. Obviously it's in there to provide energy..... These would be great for camping. They come With a heating element that you pour water into, a chemical reaction heats it up, and then that heats up the main course. it's recommended that this thing be used outside. I discovered that, when I tried it just to see how well it worked. The only problem was, I did it in my kitchen. It worked great, however, whatever it was putting out caused my natural gas detector to go crazy. I dumped the water out, let it cool outside, and will only use it when we are camping. The store is for sale, supposedly because the owner wants to retire. I hope they find a buyer, because this place is a gem, and I would hate to see it go away. Thank you. read more

This is a cool place to shop. Everything here is of course surplus!. It has the smell of used cots and mattresses. But you can expect that from this type of place. Once you walk in there are some bags of all sorts for packing as you keep going into the store you can see there's a bunch of patches as well for current uniforms or even just to spice up what you have already. We got a few once we were there today and it was nice. We also look at the shoes and boots they were on display. They family service and didn't have any issues with checking out whatsoever. Large location with a lot of great surplus products. With the large selection of products available they also have a good amount of books, memorabilia, and swag. I live in New Mexico and am in the process of creating a museum with a military theme. I am having trouble finding certain items. While visiting family in Sacramento, my sister suggested going to this store. We were greeted at the door by the owner. He was able to immediately locate the specific items I was looking for. He gave me tips for finding military surplus and stocking the museum. I love finding an independent shop that delivers a great experience. Action Military Surplus delivers. They have an excellent inventory of attire and many other military-related items. The service has been helpful, friendly. I was greeted and welcome within a minute of entering, but I wasn't crowded. I like to just "help myself" and look around, reaching out for help when need it. I received exactly what I like in a shopping experience. Even though the store was closing in 15 minutes, I wasn't rushed. I was very mindful about the time, to be respectful. I left with something that made me very happy as it was a quality item at a fair price. A nice, new woodland pattern bucket hat to complete my Halloween costume. The service here is a breath of fresh air. The selection is great. The pricing is good. I hope Action Military Surplus continues to do well as they not only do service well, there are very few military surplus shops in operation. Military surplus stores to not fall anywhere in my normal places to review. So I will review this store like I would if I was shopping for something. Customer service five stars+: S had lost his receipt and they were happy to take back his purchase, and refunded his money. Prices 3 or 4 stars: I haven't done any comparison shopping--I have no idea what military and outdoor gear should cost. Inventory 3-5: There is a lot to choose from. Half way home I thought perhaps I should have bought some camouflage clothing to wear when I am trying to photograph birds. I did not wanted it enough to turn around a go back. read more

Literally a surplus of old and new military gear and tactical equipment. Over the last couple of years since getting out Active Duty Army, I've been here 3-4 times. Every time I've had a pleasant experience. Because of everything this place carries, you could literally be here for a couple of hours looking at everything. There's an abundance of new and used gear, a lot of old vets in the area after getting out of the military. Will sell any of their old gear here; I did the same as I had a lot of boots and old uniforms. Here you'll be able to get everything from battle to dress uniform, pt gear, outerwear and underwear, boots (new & used), tactical gear and supplies like rucksacks/backpacks, 550/"para"cord, military flags, knives and tools, military patches and pins. So we went here for Burning Man gear: tents, shade stuff, sleeping bags, googles, camelpaks, etc. But they must know there's a demand for this stuff, because the prices didn't seem any lower than they'd be at a REI. Too bad... I *did* like the clothing and random military items (patches, pins, decals... I've got an Air Force family so I'm a nerd for that kind of stuff). I bought 6 flags online from them. Army, Navy, USMC, Air Force, Coast Guard and a POW MIA flag for my gym about a year ago. Took 3 weeks to get em. I had to call twice and each time the guy on the phone told me that they were waiting for one of the flags to come in as one was out of stock. Got a call saying all the flags were available for me to pick them up. When I got there, I let the "lovely and enthusiastic" gentleman behind the counter know what I was there for. Apparently I mumbled or didn't speak loud enough because he then proceeded to mock me as to let me know he didn't understand what i had just told him. I don't need to be talked to like that. I'm sorry I'm wasting your precision time with my money and business. At that point I just gave him the name of the person I talked to twice on the phone, which was apparently the owner. Nice guy. Apologized for the wait and got me out of there pretty quick. Im a huge supporter of our military and shopping locally but anything else I've needed as far as tactical gear for camping and what not, I've just went to amazon. Very disappointed with this place! After digging through their MSS bags(Military sleep system) I saw a set that looked new marked at what I thought was a fair price, the same price I often see them go for on Ebay. I tried to purchase it only for them to tell me it was labeled incorrectly and would be almost twice as much if I wanted to purchase it. I of course complained, and they called the owner who basically said," To bad... even though we made the mistake we won't make good on it and sell it for the price listed." All of their items were unbelievably over priced. Come on....It's military surplus. I literally wanted to buy something, but couldn't bring myself to be ripped off. I'm only giving them two stars , instead of one, because they had a good selection of items. But that's probably because they can't sell anything due to the high prices. read more

My very existence annoyed this man from the moment I walked in. Usually, I walk out when I'm not wanted but I was on a mission and I knew this would be my first and last time here. I said, "hello" and he just looked at me like I had an extra eyeball in my forehead while coughing all over the Goddamn place. I found my items and while he's ringing me up he goes, " you don't have to wear your mask...I forgot to tell you that when you walked in". My husband and I went to this store last weekend and were quickly disappointed. We like going to antique, thrift and pawn shops. We've been to a few army surplus stores and usually see some pretty interesting finds. First, the store is very clean and organized, most of the products appear to be brand new but there is not much variety or historic things. But what really turned me off is that they first said,"Is the something that we can help you find?" (With a very sarcastic tone)I said,"no thank were just looking". They continued to stare at us as if we were going to steal something which made us both very uncomfortable. We didn't feel wanted. I like going into these stores not just to find interesting things but also because it reminds me of my uncle that passed away from brain cancer just a few years ago. He was a Vietnam Veteran with a Purple Heart who was stationed with his brother who died right in front of his brother. I am also a life time member of the Military of the Purple Heart and a member of the American Legion just to show my support. The point is that standing behind the counter judging people is probably not the best way to make some money. I will never go back to this location again. read more

Was promised a 10day shipment item, they lied, took weeks to months to even come in and they don't even notify you and always brush you off when you call in to check on your order/s. They don't give you updates at all when they have all your info, the service is terrible with a grumpy bad attitude over the phone like you're a burden to them! Great gear, fair staff and management. I'm in the Guard and always come here for last minute IDT equipment shortages I come across. Staff will let you try on gear and clothing. Staff will also let you trade in older TA-50 and gear for other things as well. Sometimes the old guy that owns the place pms's like a little girl and I've seen this first hand. Anyway, the gentleman at the counter was welcoming and friendly -- and they had what I wanted. I looked around and most of the items were pretty high, for being used. One can get them online or at a base exchange for much cheaper but I appreciate that sometimes you don't want to wait or don't have access to a base. I was in late Thursday, just before closing. I bought a used jumpsuit and a new pair of BDU pants. Both are perfect, and I know I'm going to enjoy wearing them. The pants, especially, are perfect. They fit as though they were made for me. Both are very comfortable. I wanted to particularly thank Kyle Drummond, who made helpful suggestions, found the pants for me, and gave me advice on how to care for them. I didn't get her name, but the lady working was also very helpful and friendly. I want to explore the shop when I have more time. We were in the store just before closing, but neither Kyle nor the lady made us feel rushed. There is so much to see! There are used and new garments, hats, footgear, belts, holsters and memorabilia, just for starters. I am a Veteran of the US Navy. After seeing a help wanted sign I saw a wonderful opportunity, especially only living a half mile away on the same street. I was told I was unqualified, not having experience in selling and shipping off eBay and they are not willing to train. I came into this store last week with my 17 year old son. As we were walking out of the store my son made the comment that the folks there were "really nice and respectful". I would absolutely have to agree. He has grown up in the Walmart generation. That day he got a taste of what mom and pop customer service is all about.
