I had an oil change there and was advised to have the oil changed every 5,000 miles instead of trusting the computer's 10,000 miles because "this model has oil problems and there's no dip stick." A quick internet search show that the oil status is tracked by the car's computer and can be seen on the dash display. Therefore no dip stick needed. This seems like bad advice that I can only see one reason for, and that's not good. read more

My 2012 Volvo C70 died in my driveway on a Tuesday afternoon. I tried starting it several times and not even a click. I knew it wasn't the battery as was just a year old and all the lights on the dash worked fine. I suspected it needed a new starter and I knew that I needed a new repair shop to have the car towed to for the needed repairs. To have your car towed to someone you don't know to repair it, is intimidating to say the least. I called and Freddy said to have it towed in the next morning and that his shop was able to work on it. I had it towed in and met with Freddy who pointed out that my car had more problems than not starting. The timing belt was worn and I know that if/when it breaks it could cause serious damage to the engine and if you can even find a used Volvo C70 engine they are very expensive. It also needed front brakes, and a new multi ended hose for the radiator as it had a leak and was leaking a small amount of coolant, plus its 67,500 mile service was going to be due in a few hundred miles. I agreed to have all the work done right then instead of waiting for the scheduled service interval. The starter and engine hose were replaced along with a new timing belt, front brakes and an oil/filter change and lube. I got my car back as soon as he could get the new starter and install it. When my husband and I picked up the car on Monday, Freddy showed me everything that he had done and explained everything. I'm a gearhead girl at heart and I really appreciated him showing me the parts that he had replaced. All in all I could not be happier with the work done on my cute little car and the price I paid was more than fair and I'm sure it was much less than I would have spent at the stealer (dealer). I will not take my precious Volvo to any other mechanic for service - ever! Freddy is now my new mechanic and I am thrilled. Way to go Action Volvo! read more

HONEST Mechanic. I've been looking for a new Volvo mechanic and he was highly recommended to me by a long time customer. My previous mechanic charged me for a fuel pump but didn't change my fuel filter. The previous mechanic knew he was damaging my fuel pump and engine by not doing this simple repair. I have 2 Volvos, 2007 XC90 and a 2013 XC90 respectively. Freddy has been taking care of both my XC90s for the last 10 years. I've taken my XC90s to the dealership and other independent Volvo mechanics who have always made me pay an arm and a leg for false diagnoses. I took a 1993 Volvo 940 to this guy. The car has had lots of work done on it (before taking to this guy), tried everything from Mass air flow sensors to new oxygen sensors and more. He says, mass air flow sensor doesn't work. I go ok, how do you know it doesn't work? He wouldn't answer me: kept saying, "who is the mechanic here? You or me?" I'm just asking how he knows MAF doesn't work, like if he used a machine or analyzer or the OBD system to figure it out. Instead he says "I don't want to talk to you". I try showing him the repair history. He says, go buy another car (meaning he didn't even want to try to fix it). Seriously? No transparency. No integrity. Asks for the impossible. read more

I had previously been going to another volvo mechanic in town, but my car had slowly been getting less and less reliable and I wasn't sure why. On my first visit, Janusz put my car up, took me underneath and explained to me exactly what he was going to do and why. He doesn't always have time to do this, but he always has the time to explain exactly what needs to be done and why. A few years ago, the air conditioning stopped working on my Volvo S60. I called around, described the problem, and most shops immediately quoted me $600-800 for parts and labor. When I called Action Volvo, Janusz said it probably wasn't broken. It just needed to be removed, taken apart, and one of the metal parts needed to be filed down so hot air wouldn't pass through it. Or something like that. He quoted me a price of $275 for labor--and if that didn't fix the air conditioning, there would be no charge. It's still working today. I've taken the car back multiple times for service and to have parts replaced. Always a great experience. Just today, I brought a part to re-attach my fuel door because the plastic hinge broke. Janusz spent about 20 minutes fixing it and didn't charge me anything. read more

Seen Janusz two more times after my initial time. Had a dashboard light saying coolant was low, but the reservoir seemed to be full. Janusz discovers a radiator leak and possibly saves my car being doomed since I like to think Volvo dash lights are the result of a finicky electrical system. You see, Janusz is an incredibly gifted businessman. He knows you'll be pissed when you're told you need a repair done that you didn't bring your car in for in the first place. But that's what makes him a pro: he knows how to tell you in such finely chosen language where you realize its all about whether you want your car to survive or not. And I quote: "You see, the life is too short, so if you have the money, buy new car. If you are saving the money, maintain the car." Of couse this was the year I also had to pass a smog test. The check engine codes pointed to several problems. Janusz was able to pinpoint the precise problem without having to do unnecessary repairs. Janusz called me a few days later to see if my light came back on. It didn't; and I passed the smog test.
