I called Jeremy from Active Air Specialists because my AC stopped working in my condo on a super hot day. I talked to Jeremy late in the day and he arrived promptly the following morning. He determined the problem in a short time and explained my options. Since the unit was extremely old and probably hadn't been serviced in quite a while it had a lot of issues. Received message that he could service my unit it'd be 85$ for coming out and any work this would go towards. Saturday Specialist came out, stood by the unit, he didn't touch it initially, and stated it's running. He suggested I clean the unit and replace the filter. There was so much lint in it so I cleaned it and washed it down. Seemed like it would work. Sunday night I turned it on went to bed and woke up it was 83 degrees. Messaged the specialist at 5am that it's 83 degrees inside. The air was still not coming out cool. Specialist came out at around noon Monday and looked it and stated it was the capacitor which he had on hand. He still did not measure anything in the unit. 279.99 for capacitor and he replaced quickly maybe 15 min said it was ready to go. I should of asked if the 85$ when he first came would be reduced but didn't. Temperature decreased 2 degrees in 3 hours then went up 6 degrees. I messaged him and he promptly responded stating he's not sure why and that he'd come back out of possible. He came out at 930pm same day and used a gun to measure temperature coming out of the vents. Then we asked him to use a gauges to measure. He stated it's not a practice but would do it. He then learned that the Freon was low after he measured it with the gauges. He filled the Freon and didn't charge me for the Freon. Turns out it was 1lb low of Freon as soon as he measured and filled it up it started blowing cold air... $364.99 later I'm not sure if this was the issue initially. But I'm not the expert. He responded promptly seemed knowledgeable but I was uncomfortable because it took three times to get the issue squared away. But if we would have not pushed to check the levels I'm not sure if the air would have cooled. This is just my experience. I appreciated his responses but felt anxious when the recommended updates did not fix the issue. read more

Got referred by Old Republic Home Protection to this company. They are a joke. I wasn't home and my wife was there when the Dude shows up takes one look and because he couldn't fit into a tight spot l, says he can't do it and leaves. I have a simple leaking condensation line. You can see the leak but because he didn't wanna do the work just left. I called him back and we get into an argument and asked me who do I think I'm talking to. This company is obviously overbooked and he was clearly stressed out. Do not use these guys if u want a thorough, professional HVAC specialist. So disappointed in ORHP. read more

I couldn't be happier! My furnace went out on the 17th, a day before I was flying out for the holidays until the 28th. Long story short, the previous guy said it was the thermostat, charged me for that, but the heat never came back on and then he was unresponsive. A friend recommended Active Air Specialists. I called him from the airport on my way back home on the 28th and he answered right away. He gave me a time he'd be here on the 29th (today) and called me twice in the morning to update me so I wasn't wondering where he was. He diagnosed the issue as my motherboard, had to run out and get one that was compatible with my system since the one he had with him wasn't, and fixed it in no time. He even swapped my smart thermostat back since it was never faulty to begin with. Jeremy was a super nice and respectful person and he got my heat working in no time. He even disposed of the pee bottle the previous guy had LEFT UP IN MY ATTIC!! You can't even make this up. My son is (was?) having problems with his A/C unit in is condo he purchased recently. He was outta town and asked me to be there when A/C company arrived. I had done this for him previously. With the home warranty he received with purchase of home, this is probably the 5th or 6th time a HVAC company has come to "repair" A/C. Charlie & Tom from Active Air and we're so helpful and knowledgeable. 1st ones to actually try and fix problem and left me with some suggestions. When you find the right mechanic, plumber, electrician, etc....it's awesome. If there is another problem with my sons A/C, we will call home warranty and ask for Active A/C to come back. I put in a request for service through my home warranty company. After a few days of not being contacted I received an email from my home warranty company saying to call the company at their number if I had not heard from them yet. I call AAS and get a voicemail saying to leave my info and "they will get back to you at their earliest convenience". I get called back the next day and we set up a time for later that week. Day of the appointment they don't show up in the morning at 0900 as planned, phone call after phone call they say they are coming later and later. Eventually the guy shows up around 1:30 and spends the next two hours part of the time testing power in the heater with his multimeter but mostly just jaw jacking with his friend on the phone loud as hell about what screw ups and crybabies his employees are. When it's all said and done, he said he thinks their might be a birds nest in the intake pipe. I'm no pro but it seems to me that would be one of the first things to check for the burner not lighting. He then goes on to say that my "blower" is shot and needs to be replaced. Fast forward about two weeks after nothing being done I get an email from my home warranty provider saying that the job is complete and I need to pay the service fee. I called them back and told them nothing had been done other than being told I might have a birds nest and my blower needed to be replaced. They said they had nothing about a blower being needed. So this guy just tried to take $75 to tell me I "might" have a birds nest in my intake... The home warranty rep called the contractor then called me back saying that the contractor sounded shady and recommended I change contractors. With the first few winter freezes hitting us the last few days I decided "If you want it done right then do it yourself" was the best decision right now since I too can check an intake pipe, check resistance with a multimeter, and make loud phone calls at inappropriate times and locations though I have no desire to do so. So I have put my request with my warranty company on hold until I at least confirm for myself that anything other than a potentially clogged intake is wrong. Anybody want to bet the blower is in fact still good? I'll come back and update the review when I find out what is actually wrong with our heater but I'm pretty sure this company tried to take me for a ride. Update: this is most definitely the correct company and you are full of ... I have plenty of documentation from my home warranty company on who came here. Tried to "assist me"? With what? You tried to scam me looser... Your "services" are no longer required nor will they ever again be desired. There is nothing you can do to make it better when you get caught running a scam. Placed a service request for my water heater through my home warranty and they were dispatched to come look at it. They come and collect the $75 trade call fee and tell me they were going to replace it and that they would call me back. No call back so I call in the morning and the guy states that he would call me back with more details. Again no callback, so I call in the afternoon and the guy comes up with a story that he is REFUSING to do it because the home warranty company "doesn't pay enough", which is not my problem. If you have issues with them then STOP taking their service requests. They were happy to take the $75 bucks but when it came down to do actual work they refused. Long story short if your warranty company assigns them to you ask them for someone else. A bunch of crooks. read more

We called our home warranty company for a claim on our a/c unit. The first company they assigned couldn't get to our SoCal home (in July) until a week after my initial claim. I called the home warranty company and they re-assigned me to Active Air. The called within 10 minutes and scheduled me for a window that same day. Additionally, they agreed to text/call me when they left the prior job site so I could work around my work schedule. Awesome. Upon arrival, Charlie immediately knew what was wrong based on the description. He corrected the problem within about 15 minutes, and then replaced the thermostat and recharged the freon to make sure our 15 y/o A/C was running efficiently. He recommended some other improvements but was not pushy about the options. Great service, quick response. I can't comment on the pricing because the warranty covered the repair.
