We've been enjoying Active Culture since it opened. We pretty much are addicted to 'Not Your Mommas Nachos'... deliciously consistent! But just recently I've noticed that AC appears to be arbitrarily hiking their prices... very disappointed. In addition to nearly 10% sales tax, AC is adding another 5% 'surcharge' for 'inflation.' So consider this: you are paying 15% for sales tax and 'surcharge' combined on top of increased food prices! Throw on a 20% tip and you're in for 35% on top of the already increased menu prices! The plate of cheese nachos rang up to $20.50 ! (Including tip) No, I didn't say grilled mahi mahi... I said cheese nachos. This seems like the classic case of taking advantage of your customers while you can. This will be our last meal at AC ... it's just principle at this point. Statistically, this is only happening to 16% of restaurants in California. It's a small club of those who have decided to take advantage of their loyal customers. read more

I got here like 1130 for lunch I haven't eaten all day and was up at 4am so I was ready to eat! lol I ordered the lentil bowl and tortilla soup and a juice.. everything was so fresh and so perfect. I don't understand the hype about this place. Its mediocre at best. The employees look so unpresentable, dirty uniforms, doesn't look like they shower. Bunch of grease balls !! Great vegan or vegetarian spot in San Clemente. Fresh and flavorful and good prices. The food service and juice bar does close earlier than their yogurt service. Tried to order food 15 minutes before their closing and was told that I couldn't. They only have yogurt for the last half hour. read more

When it's good it's really good. The last two times I've tried to place a delivery order their phones haven't worked and you are unable to even make a phone call. Then they told me they aren't taking any more delivery orders when I did finally get through. I really like the food but I think the customer service/professionalism needs to pick up. The food isn't cheap and it's hard to be a regular when the service is so inconsistent. I want to like this place and think they have so much potential. I loved their date shakes (with coconut base) at Laguna and stayed in San Clemente for a week so I was excited to see they have a location there. I would actually drink one as a meal they were so filling and delicious. Unfortunately, the last one I got a few weeks ago had a rock in in and I bit into it. I thought it was maybe a date pit, but it was a rock. A couple days later, an entire part of my tooth broke off. $800+ dentist bill and 3 trips to the dentist on a milk shake/smoothie. They sent me a gift card as compensation before the tooth actually broke which I appreciated but I am from out of town and I gave it away since I just can't trust it anymore. I tried to reach out again to let them know of the further damage but they stopped responding to my messages. I wasn't necessarily looking for anything in particular but I decided to share my story as a result. They have vegan options and I appreciate that a lot as when I travel that can be quite tough. I've included the picture of the rock but will spare you the gory picture of what my broken tooth looked like. I imagine the rock was much bigger, after I bit it there were rock bits all over my mouth. Once again, delicious items but clearly I had an awful, time consuming, and expensive experience. read more

I am not one to leave a negative review ever but I am starting to get a little frustrated. Active Culture in sc almost always messes up my order. I have ordered over 45 bowls this year from them because i loveee them but always something is missing. for example, right now I ordered a lentil goodness bowl and had it delivered but there are no lentils in the bowl. Also, the workers were super rude to my boyfriend when he went in to get our order and when he checked he noticed our extra og sauce that we ordered wasn't in the bag so he politely asked for them to put it in the bag and they gave him a rude look and talked down on him saying you have to order it so he showed them the receipt and it was on there. Getting super annoyed with them and it's sad because they have awesome food!! wish they were more consistent!! read more

Always a solid choice when wanting to eat healthy or get some froyo. The lentil goodness, wholesome and breakfast bowls are some of our favorites. Everything tastes fresh made to order. Their breakfast is also good. Prices are steep for the ingredients used - we'd eat here a lot more of it were easier on our wallets. read more

I'm jealous of anyone who lives remotely close to this spot. I stopped in for some healthy food while I visited and got the wholesome bowl (which is pretty large) and it definitely hit the spot. I was also tempted to get a smoothie and decided to go with the naked coconut option almost regretting my decision wondering if it would be too bland. Luckily I was not disappointed...and here's the wow part, I was blown away by how flavorful and absolutely delicious this was. It's pure crack in a cup. The guy working Wednesday night was incredibly rude. Terrible service which is a big bummer because we love the Laguna location so much. Came in a couple minutes after 8:30 and rather than a hello he says the kitchen is closed. We only wanted a smoothie and the sign clearly states they close at 9pm. We weren't upset that the Kitchen was closed but more in his rude delivery. Definitely won't be visiting this location any more. read more

Having been to the active culture in laguna once, I definitely liked this place enough to stop by the San Clemente location for lunch and I'm really glad I did, it was even better than the first time! I had tried the Wholesome Bowl the first time around and wanted to try something different so I went with the lentil burger and was really impressed with how delicious it was. The patty was well seasoned, a lot of flavor, not fried so it definitely was not heavy. They topped it off with some creamy light yogurt sauce, alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes and cucumbers on a soft wheat bun and it all comes together so well. They give you a side of chips for some crunch and texture and it's all you need. The location was nice and the service was friendly to top it all off, so I'll definitely be coming back here. Stopped in San Clemente on our (me, my husband and almost 4 yo son) way from San Diego to LA and found this gem. We ordered the BBQ burger, hummus bagel, tortilla soup, and kombucha mojito.
