You talk about a meatball sub?!?! This thing is insane. I mean, absolutely revolutionary. Lean ground beef with massive chunks of garlic. Light baguette that the cheese is absolutely glued to. Every bite was bursting with flavor. It's a quaint spot with just a few seats. The workers are awesome and nice. I sat outside at lunch. To go orders were running in and out, I knew i was in the right spot. Let's revisit the sandwich. The problem with a meatball sub is it is too messy. They do not over sauce theirs, which is great. An auntie of mine was ravin' about this place and I can see why! Fettuccine was delicious! 3 Cheese Ravioli was all right. Caesar salad was good, more on the savory side. They prepare their food based on ticket orders, and due to the large number of to-go orders, wait times can reach up to 45 minutes. We have been to Guicho's a few times and have always ordered sandwiches to go. They do have a little patio for outside dining. The inside dining area doesn't seem appealing. We like the meatball & the Caprese sandwiches. We like to take the food to the Pines Park in Dana point & watch the waves below. Makes for a lovely afternoon Restaurant is tucked into the T.J. Great takeout pasta joint near the beach! It seems they've recently added a couple of tables inside so you can dine in, but I would recommend bringing it to the beach and eating it outside on a beautiful day. The plaza is small and parking limited so do keep that in mind. My friend recommended the fusilli special which is a tomato cream sauce with ground sausage and mushrooms. It was so flavorful and not overly heavy. Pasta was cooked perfectly and wasn't drowning in sauce either. It also comes with a side of garlic bread slice to sop up the extra sauce. Guicho's is not my favorite but everyone else seems to like it. What am I missing? The wife loves this place and with it being walking distance to home, easy for a quick meal. Several different friends visiting from out of town always want to order when they are here. Again, what am I missing? I have ordered many different things over the years: Spaghetti and meatballs - has become my go-to. Not bad but not great. Meatballs are pretty good. Never had meatballs with rice in them but it seems to work. I always ask for extra marinara. Fusilli with sausage - sausage is good, broth based sauce is nice change up from tomato sauce. Hearts of Palm Salad - good. Usually a lot of hearts of palm and the balsamic vinaigrette is good. A lot of good and OK from my perspective. Not great, IMHO. This time the wife wanted the chopped salad - mixed greens, chicken, cucumber, carrots, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, mozzarella, oven dried eggplant, balsamic dressing 12.95. She LOVES this salad. Most of the time she orders this salad and a pasta and then she has leftovers of both for lunch the next day. This time the wife only ordered this as her meal. They throw in a small slice of baguette that is not bad. For me, I ordered for the first time the sausage sandwich. I have never ordered a sandwich from Guicho's so it was a new adventure. I have had the sausage as a side with spaghetti and with the fusilli. It's pretty good sausage. The sausage sandwich is Guichos homemade pork sausage, roasted peppers and onions, giardinera sauce. 13.50. I ordered some marinara on the side. First impression is that there was not much sausage and the sandwich was kind of small. The giadinera looked good. Overall, the sandwich was a solid OK. Giardinera was the highlight of the meal. Ordering marinara is interesting as they say the side is 8 ounces, but it is much less than that. I am not sure if we were charged for the marinara as I forgot to take a pic of the receipt. Like I started with, I am an outlier in my family and friends that really like or love Guicho's. I think I've tried enough of the dishes to get a feel for what I think is OK. In some cases, when the wife and the kid want Guicho's, I will make my own dinner at home or order from a different restaurant. That's me. Go. I'd recommend somewhere else. HAVE FUN!! read more

Guicho's is located in a mall over in San Clemente, next door to a cookie shop and over by TJ Maxx and Sprouts. I didn't know there was seating inside because it says take out only on the website, but you can order at the counter and sit down. There is plenty of seating both inside and out. Staff was super friendly when we showed up, and while there was about a 20 minute wait, it was well worth it. I noticed a lot of phone/online orders and a lot of what were obviously regulars just showing up to pick up their food and go. We had an eggplant sandwich, delicious ciabatta, great flavors all around. The lasagna with house made pork sausage was a good sized calorie bomb portion with lots of cheese, but it was so tasty that even though I was filled up 2/3 of the way through, I had to keep eating. The fusilli pasta with pork sausage was also fantastic. Too top it off, we had a few tiramisu portions which were also excellent. Nothing on the menu we had was second-rate or deserved a pause-it was all excellent, delicious, and generously portioned. I look forward to going back go Guicho's. We had a gift certificate and it worked out to about between $15-20 per person, which is reasonable and a great value for the food they served up. Thanks Guicho's! read more

Stopped in for a late lunch on our way to San Diego. Easy access off the 5 freeway. Small parking lot is convenient and not filled at the time of our visit. Friendly counter service with a recommendation for salads, sandwiches and pasta for those that have a hard time deciding. There is a counter inside along the wall for eating in, or if it's nice outside, there are several 2-person tables in front. All in all the food was very good and we are seriously thinking of stopping back in on our drive back home. read more

The flavor was there -ish, not enough sauce and NOT enough Cheese and while we are at this... they should be seared to put a nice crust on the meatballs....who wants bland looking meatballs? Location by Sprouts. Use to love their pasta, they are still only to go. The food was very bland and served in a paper box that sucks up the sauce, subpar. Very pricey $38 for 2 small dishes and very little meat and small portions. The garlic toast is still delicious, which was the only thing edible. Took 45 minutes to walk up order and get food. Don't know why they were so slow, lots of employees many just standing around. Had to toss it. The cashier Jackson? was amazing, apologetic, and kept checking our order and giving us updates. Ordered their fusille pesto pork sausage a few nights ago. 3.5 hours later got violently ill. Food poisoning. Not good. A solid hour of stomach pains and you know what else. Emailed them just to let them know. So they could keep others from getting sick. No word back and so stopped in just now to tell them, and that no way was it not that dinner. As I left the girl offers a flippant "have a nice day" If you give your customers food poisoning and they simply bring it to your attention... maybe apologize or something instead of being an Ahole. read more
