My expectations were/are so high for Adamo's. And tonight it just didn't live up to great Italian. My friend got the squash special pasta and it lacked a lot of flavor. My raviolis were much better in this department but the pesto was more like a chimchurri. Asking for Parmesan, which wasn't offered, would have made a marked improvement. The service was great otherwise. Though the red wine selection was lacking. The biggest disappointment was the cannoli. It was lemon flavored and seemed to be filled with whipped cream not ricotta. We were so let down! The homemade shell was so good too. Our other dessert, the seasonal ricotta cake was excellent. Perfectly moist, and not too rich or fruity. Order that for now. I didn't love where our table was placed. We were the last one by the bar, basically in the hallway. Expect a casual rather than romantic vibe. Honestly, I'm not sure I'll come back here. The food is good. The service and drinks program need work. My wife ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc, she was given a glass of an oaked chardonnay based wine. Asked the server if this was the sauvignon blanc and was told it was. I then ordered a glass of the chardonnay based wine on the menu to see if it was what my wife had been served. I was given a glass of pinto grigio. Spent 25 years in the restaurant business and 15 of those specializing in wine. Have two sommelier certifications (CMS & SWE) and did blind tastings for Wine & Spirits Magazine in the mid-2000's. The difference between those two wines are as clear as the difference between Sprite and Ginger Ale. Didn't want to ruin a family dinner so didn't say anything. We never been to Adamo's before and from reviews and pictures it looked promising. But the whole experience was underwhelming. I booked reservation in advance for 15 people for dinner and let them know it's a birthday celebration and I will be bringing a cake. I received a call the day of to confirm the reservation and then later that day that they were running late. No problem as I appreciated the information. We were seated not too long after our original reservation time. We mainly came here to try their Carbonara and the Alfredo but they were both sold out. We settled for other dishes and honestly the white wine pappardelle dish was on the salty side. The cake I brought was mushy when they bought it out later and you can tell it never made it to the fridge. We ask for the cake box so we can take our leftover cake and they tossed it already. The ambiance was very loud since they were busy. Felt that there was A lot of room for improvement on both the food and service. Not sure if I would return anytime soon. read more

I walked in to ask for a wait time only to be greeted by Mr. Adamo himself. Right then I knew I was in for something special. The place was packed we had a 35 minute wait but it being as packed as it was I knew it was worth it. My wife and I started with the arancini and a glass of Sauvignon blanc. We instantly fell silent enjoying every bite. The simple yet delectable spring mix salad with sun-dried tomatoes, pickled red onion, and vinaigrette only grew our anticipation of main course. Between every course I couldn't help but admire the atmosphere of the restaurant. Friends, couples and families all in their own worlds enjoying each others company. Meanwhile Mr Adamo and his staff hustling in the background reminding me of my own restaurant where I grew up working with my family for nearly 15 years. When it came time for our main course of the creamy white wine pappardelle I was overwhelmed by nostalgia. Every blissful bite sent me back in time to working with my family thinking of the love and effort my parents put into their restaurant. I didn't know it was possible for pasta to taste like a hug. First timer and was not disappointed! We didn't know we needed reserved seating in order to get a table but we went at a perfect time to get a seat at the open bar with the full menu. Our server/bartender was amazing. She recommended some popular and personal favorites and had our order taken in no time. When I first walked in, I fell in love with the restaurant. This is a hidden neighborhood gem. If your looking for authentic Italian food and in house pasta than this is your spot! I started off with an espresso. The espresso tasted amazing! It has a strong chocolate note. It's interesting that they don't serve house coffee or cappuccino but only espresso. I asked what type coffee they use and surprisingly it's Nespresso Pods. For appetizer me and my friend split the garlic bread which tasted amazing! It came with house made marinara sauce which tasted great! For entree I ordered the creamy white whine pasta with roasted butternut squash and cauliflower. I love the taste of the white wine sauce and the vegetables pair perfectly with the dish. I will be back to try other items on the menu. I strongly recommend this place if your in the area. We also had the octopus appetizer which was so soft, simple but very satisfying. I would not recommend the salmon picatta dish for someone who is not familiar with the taste. The dish is an amazing grilled salmon on top of a lemon pasta. My boyfriend did not enjoy it because of how sour the dish was but it's because he is not used to the flavor. Please try the Chicken Alfredo if you are a first timer or the polenta and meatball is also great. The ricotta cheesecake is not that sweet. We did not really like the taste for some reason it had a greasy flavor. (Not sure what it was) I would recommend to call for a reservation ahead of time. When I parked I realized I have been here before but was a different restaurant, I recall having a French dip sandwich that was delicious and I believe I went another time and a band was playing. It still looks like a dive bar. I arrived it was busy, no hostess was at counter so I walked to the bar and found a single seat. The guy next to me was a cook that makes the pastas and recommended the Bolognese or Salmon Picatta with pappardelle pasta. While waiting the bartender walked by with a plate of large Arncini, mozzarella stuff risotto balls and they looked tasty. I went with the salmon picatta, it comes with a side salad the produce was fresh. When it arrived it was like, where is the salmon, it was 4 ounces at best, I expected a little more, however it was very moist and delicious. The pappardelle pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, I understand this is made in house. The lemon caper cream sauce was full of flavor. The garlic bread was hard. The owner/host was not welcoming, I don't think this guy smiles, he only acknowledged me to move over a seat at the bar to vacate two seats for customers that never came. We had to wait about an hour for a table, which wasn't too bad since we waited at the apartment. The restaurant is a little place and each table was filled! I ordered the bolognese and I was very happy with my order! I think it was my first time having it and I enjoyed how it wasn't just drenched in sauce and I could really taste the flavor. I think the only downside is the portion you get for the size. I felt a little hungry afterwards still. The side of house salad you get prior is delicious! I love the pickled onions and the tomatoes. This is the type of place you go to when you really only wanted to catch up with friends. The restaurant was very cozy and very lively. We were sat quickly but as there were only two people serving food and taking orders it was definitely a wait. The appetizers were a highlight. The scallops were amazing, would definitely recommend. The calamari was unexpected and unfortunately I just couldn't get over the texture and appearance. The bruschetta was good, loved the variety and it was a nice start. I ordered the chicken Alfredo and I'll be honest, maybe it's just traditional pasta and that's just not my preference but it was just pasta water to me. The chicken was super flavorful and the garlic bread was outstanding but I'm paying for a whole entree and the only thing I wanted to eat was the small piece of chicken and a quarter slice of bread in the dish so I was just disappointed. Our server had an attitude from the beginning, maybe it's her personality...but was not appreciated it. Ordered the octopus 5 *s, the bruschetta 3 *s, bolognese 4*s, chicken fettuccini 4*s, carbonara 3*s, salmon piccatta 1*. The salmon picatta was so sour it was almost inedible. I can deal with the food, but what stuck was the lack of attention and moodiness from the waitress. However, the real star of the show was the, what I am assuming the owner. Unassuming from the front, if you didn't know it was there you'd probably miss it and drive right past. There's free parking in a lot to the right of the building for convenience. The pasta is house-made, but unfortunately there isn't a vegan-friendly option. Others had mentioned the vegan sandwich as greasy so I ordered the risotto, which can be made vegan by leaving off the cheese. I found the flavor to be very muted and in need of pepper. In all honesty, the side salad and sangria were more memorable. Unless I hear Adamo's has brought their menu forward to the 21st century and starts offering flavorful plant-based Italian options, I don't see myself coming back. For vegan pasta in Sacramento I'd recommend checking out Revolution Winery & Kitchen instead. read more
