It was also annoying for the waitress (not the gal that served us btw - a host perhaps) to give the vibe like they were doing us a favor by applying the $50 Birthday promo that THEY send via email (note, I verbally this flagged when we arrived just in case - but they didn't initially have it on our bill). My head is thinking "calm down--we ate minimally and got drinks. Don't offer it if you're going to have an attitude about adjusting the bill". It was just weird. They also didn't offer any bday dessert treat but we weren't super pressed bc we were so full. The meat was a bit overdone and all kind of tasted the same this visit. Didn't get to try the lamb chops and a few other meats, but still has a nice variety. Salad bar is top notch and consistent, although wish their black beans were plain due to all the meat. Drinks were ok--heavy pours but lower quality wine. The $29 "Wine Experience" package was worth it for my husband who likes variety of wines with his dinner depending on what he's eating. I'm sure I'll come again but it's been bumped a few notches on my Go To list.

Some meals deserve a novel - at least with this one, we're lucky to have a COOKBOOK. A…read morehusband-and-wife team has taken Middle Eastern fusion next-level on all fronts, centered in the ARTS DISTRICT - if you sit in the bar, you can eat under a waterfall of pathos & take suggestions from SAM & MULLIN. Food is best enjoyed family-style, but not if you don't want to share, as in my case. It's magical in the way only LA can be, beautiful because Genevieve is hands-on with artful touches (in atmosphere and PASTRIES), and 100% delicious for all senses. To begin, CHERRY TOMATO a BOMB @ss party in my mouth!!! One dish that's actually more delicious than it is beautiful (and it IS both) - silken feta, like yogurt without fermentation, underlies genuinely sweet cherry tomatoes and strawberries that are a bright, fruity POP next to roasted harissa & cilantro - cuts through like FIRECRACKERS with sesame crunch. It's MAGIC. Second, some FRIED QUAIL - THE MOST ELEGANT fried thing I've ever eaten, and I mean that in the BEST way. SO tender, moist quail in the crispiest, tastiest buttermilk semolina coating with XO (a little bit spicy, a lotta bit savory - not ashamed to say I licked the plate) and a sprinkling of ROSE petals. GET IT, SHARE IT, no more than 2 per plate (and you may want an encore...). THIRD, an otherworldly DUCK HUMMUS - SMOOTH like butter, SAVORY like 'NDUJA and slightly curried with fluffy HOT PITA fresh from the oven. I dare you to find better, please tell me if you do. A proverbial cherry-on-top (except this one is a...) PEACH TART! Perfect peaches fanned over a buttery crust that melts in the mouth - it's a marrying of barely-there crust and creamy center (underlying whip is barely sweet, like happy clouds). My greatest disappointment is not having friends to share my delight & order more - I have no doubts everything on the menu is equally exceptional, and CANNOT WAIT for the day we return together!

We went to Bavel for a special dinner and, overall, had a good experience, although it was…read moredefinitely on the pricey side. I made an OpenTable reservation about 10-15 minutes before arriving, and I'm glad I did because there was already a short line when we got there. There's valet parking for $13 for smaller cars/SUVs and $20 for larger trucks, plus tip, so definitely factor that into the meal cost. Street parking looked pretty difficult, so we were happy to just hand over the keys and not worry about it. Even with a reservation, we waited about 10 minutes. The restaurant is beautiful, and as you walk toward the dining room, you can see the fire blazing in the background. Unfortunately, our table was close enough to the fire that one side of us was basically being slow-roasted. We asked to move, and the staff was incredibly nice and switched us to another table immediately. Food-wise, this was definitely a mixed bag. The 26 oz prime ribeye ($185) was the biggest disappointment. I know it's an expensive special-occasion dish, and I saw a Yelp review calling it 10/10, so we thought, why not? Sadly, it was probably the worst ribeye I've ever had. There was a lot of silver skin/tough connective tissue throughout the meat, and for $185, I just don't think it was worth it. 1/5 for me. The grilled prawns were my favorite dish of the night and were excellent. My husband loved the lamb neck shawarma ($61). It was a little too rich for me, but I can see why he liked it, and at $61, it actually felt like one of the better values of the meal. We also enjoyed the duck hummus. The hummus with two pieces of pita was $19, but that definitely wasn't enough for three people, so we ordered two more pieces for another $10. That brought us to $29 for hummus and four pieces of pita. Delicious? Yes. A bargain? Absolutely not. Even in California, that's a lot of pita math. We also tried the Samira cocktail ($18), which they said was their most popular drink. It was good, but not particularly memorable for that price. There's also a 4% "Healthy LA" charge, so that's something to keep in mind when looking at the menu prices. For three people, our total was about $375 before tip, or a little over $120 per person. That's actually more than we spent at Nobu, so yes, I think Bavel is overpriced. But was the food good overall? Also yes. I'm glad we tried it, and I'd probably come back for the grilled prawns and maybe the shawarma. But the $185 ribeye? That one can stay at Bavel.

Service was AMAZING and for this reason alone I would absolutely return. They made us feel very welcomed especially given our food restrictions (I have some allergies while another person in our party is vegan), which was very impressive. All the staff there were friendly and helpful. We had tons of questions about booking a large reservation in the future which they were so sweet about answering. Ambiance was very chill! Lots of seating options, wasn't busy for a late lunch, and everything seems very organized too. This place honestly seems great for both small parties and bigger parties of people. Last but not least, the food! We didn't get to try the kbbq this time but I love that there are tons of options on the menu. We got several dishes like kimchi fried rice (my friend's), cold noodle, beef brisket hot soup, garlic fries. Everyone was in agreement that it was all delicious. Definitely coming back for the kbbq next time! PARKING is important to mention too. If you can find free street parking consider yourself lucky! There is a garage with the entrance next to it that says "PARKING" which they had us pay $20 with cash or Venmo. Parking guy said we had 2 hours to return with a receipt from the restaurant so they'd give us $10 cash back (essentially making parking $10 or $20 if you go over the limit). Inside the restaurant it does say $5 parking on the wall which we asked about but this only applies on Mondays to Fridays, and we came on a Saturday. I'll add a photo of this. I did consider removing a star for the whole parking situation but I'll keep it for now. Other than the parking being a pain (as is typical for the area), we loved it here.

Even when it's more busy on the weekend (I went Friday yesterday), the ambiance is def less "popping" than Quarters. I'm honestly cool with it being less of a move and more lowkey. I recommend the ribeye! IMO it's better than their featured tomahawks flavor wise. Comes with two filets for like $65. I normally throw a brisket in there too and it's more than enough with the banchan. Spend around $110-$120 for 2 with tip -- no alcohol

There were several employees that saw us just standing there, but we still waited there for 5 mins before someone told the girl from outside to take us to our table. We were finally seated. Then guy who told the girl to seat us was just standing around d chit chatting with another employees for about 15 minutes before he even came to our table. He never even introduce himself. He just took our order. Another 20 mins came by before our food was served. OUR FOOD WAS ROOM TEMPERATURE. Short Rib was ok. The macaroni was stale and OLD! It was dry and not fresh! We asked for extra BBQ sauce and that didn't arrive for another 15 mins. We had to wave down another employee to try to get the sauce to us. I wouldn't recommend this place! Horrible service. Didn't even come around to see if we needed anything or if everything was good or not. We came here around 1:30pm on 3/16. The restroom was also out of paper towels and soap from the soda dispenser. Poor quality food! Glad I tried it, so I know to not come back again!

We started with those super delicate pani puri style poppers. I've seen them on MasterClass and always wanted to try them, so finally getting them here was a moment. Filled with tandoori flavors, chutneys, mint, and a yogurt center that pops in your mouth. So good. Cocktails paired perfectly too. The pickle one and the Purple Rain were both solid gin drinks. Service was great. The bartender and server were both super knowledgeable and helped guide us through everything, which made a big difference with a menu like this. The ambience is beautiful. Big bar in the back, great lighting, a mix of natural and more moody tones that make it feel elevated but still comfortable. For mains, the pot pies are a must. We tried the biryani and the butter chicken versions, completely different but both worth it. Portions are huge, you will have leftovers. The quesadilla with fajita peppers and tandoori chicken was such a cool fusion idea and worked really well. The boneless truffle chicken had this creamy, almost alfredo style sauce with Indian spices that made it super unique. Ended with the saffron noodle pistachio ice cream dessert and that was unlike anything I've had before. Definitely something you try at least once. This is one of those spots where everything feels creative and intentional. I'll definitely be back.
