We stopped in for the first time last weekend to play some pinball. The hubby's favorite game is Indiana Jones and I searched the pinball location website and it showed they had it. Sure enough, we found the game upstairs and played and played. Nice beers on tap and they even had a cider on tap for me. I want to say everything that I love about this place and I would have given it five stars every visit excluding the last, which is honestly so bad I can't give it more than one star due to one thing: The bartender reused plastic cups meant to be disposable (standard clear drink cups) and did NOT even bother to wash them. Lost of fun games, wasn't too crowded, although it was a Thursday night, but the change machines only accept $1s and $5s and the bartender wouldn't break our $10s. The men's bathroom is also terrible, the toilet "stall" doesn't have a door, but instead a ripped tarp which is held up only by two shower curtain rings on one side (See photo). This is pretty much the coolest fucking basement ever. No frills, no posturing -- Add-a-ball is just a simple basement/hole in the wall with an awesome selection of vintage pinball and arcade games at your disposal. Most machines will only cost you a quarter. One squishy booth, several board games, and cup holders on all the machines to hold your plastic cup of beer while you play. And while you only have 2 choices on tap -- they do have Manny's and holy crap is that tap cleeeeeeeeeean. I was surprised with just how good my solo-cup-o-Manny's tasted. Cash only bar, but there is an atm at the headshop upstairs. Tom Waits hangs out on the wall as well, so this place gets like 50 extra "cool points" in my book. I've known about Add-a-Ball for a long time but never made it in till last week. This is not a fancy place - this is a place for people who like to casually enjoy a drink, play pinball, and play video games. If you're expecting something else, maybe this is not the place for you. The night I was there, there was a bit of smoking going on at the front door. I'm not sure that's always the norm but you may want to consider it if you're sensitive to smoke. Right inside the door is the bar. It's cash only and has a limited selection but I think it has just about everything I would need - beer, shots, and a few cocktails. Great selection of pinball games! My favorite is Space Invaders, which I used to play at the old Dairy Queen in my town when I was 14 years old. Love it! You can also choose a few retro games like Super Mario Bros (and 2 and 3) and Bubble Bubble. Awesomeness! The walls are filled with great paintings such as Patrick Swayze from his Point Break days. The women's bathroom is hilarious. It was out of toilet paper and paper towels but had a fully stopped tampon vending machine where each came in a plastic globe accompanied by a mint. Is there any sound in all of gaming, after all these years, more satisfying than that heavy crack when you earn a free game in pinball? I didn't get to meet the cute little feline in the photo, but this place is an absolute blast. It's in the corner of the building across the parking lot from Brouwer's. It's a blast. It's also unventilated and pretty warm in the summer, but that's alright. What you get is a little patio, an awkward ramp into a daylight basement, and a cash-only bar. There are two fairly safely selected taps, a few cans, and some single-serving Sutter Home for the wine drinker. There's a change machine, and there are about 35 game machines. The machines are about 2/3 pinball and 1/3 electronic video games. They're almost all offbeat selections that are fun--Baby Pac Man, S.T.U.N. Runner, Surf Champ, Twilight Zone, Indiana Jones (pinball), all kinds of fun stuff. This is an easy to place to get rid of 10 or 15 dollars in quarters on a rainy Sunday afternoon. read more

Maybe I'm a nerd, but this was one of my favorite places in Seattle. In fact, we were there for 3.5 days and came here twice. If you're familiar with the Barcade model, it's basically that. But a tad divier and with more character. Also more pinball machines. One of their newest attractions was a 10-player game called Killer Queen, which I didn't get the hang of. My favorite game was probably the tabletop up-to-4-player vs. PacMan. That was really fun. They also have Cruis'n USA. A super old Dr. Mario, which has a weird skateboarding Mario on the other side, which I couldn't make heads or tails of. Beer selection is a-okay. Nothing spectacular. We met up with a bunch of friends and enjoyed ourselves here. Bring cash and an open mind & it's a good time! It's pretty hidden if you're not paying close enough attention, make sure to look at the signs along the street. The location is not directly on the street, if you pass a building after the gas station you've gone too far. This arcade feels very grungy and Portland-y. There is an ATM if you forget cash, but comes with an extra fee. The bartender can break your cash since the coin dispenser only takes $1 and $5 bills. The selection for beers is pretty diverse from IPAs to pale ales to the grapefruit radler. Eat before or after since there's no food served here. There were cheez-it's & cheese balls from what I saw to snack on for about $3. Now to the serious stuff, the types of games they have are diverse but the most fun was the Killer Queen, Sega driving game, and Pac-Man. The rest was pinball-esque related and I feel like I didn't get to test them all since there was several options! There's an epic Patrick Shwayze mural in the seating area as well. Dynamite with a laser beam. Guaranteed to blow your mind. They have this game called Killer Queen. You're gonna love it. It's a five vs. five arcade game where you play as bees. I know that sounds a little too thrilling for most, but you're going to have to trust me here. There's a small village of Seattlites that has grown up around that console. They will welcome you into their primitive tribal community if you have a couple quarters to throw into the pot. We came on a Friday night, which I would typically not do... going out on Fridays and Saturdays stresses me OUT. Of course it was crazy crowded, but finding an open pinball machine or other game wasn't too hard. There is only one small bar area downstairs and I believe one upstairs as well, so be prepared to wait for a drink. This bar is definitely divey - not a bad thing. There is ample seating - booths and tables scattered around. The place is a little cramped at times. At one point, my group of three was in between another group of three and a couple on either side of us that were all trying to watch our friends play pinball, which was a tight fit. Overall, this place stacks up in comparison to other gaming bars around town/other cities I've been to. Lots of variety, cheap drinks, and a laid back atmosphere. I used to like this place... today my girl friend had to use the rest room and because we are so liberal and there are a lot of neutral restrooms, she went in to a bathroom with both a toilet AND a urinal. There was a lot of guys waiting and one of them decided to knock harshly and actually open the door forcefully and walk in and when he did she got shocked, scared and tried to defend herself. He then decided to grab her and bang her against the wall and choke her. She got free and went to the bouncer and bar tenders for help...and with MULTIPLE witnesses, including myself, telling them of what happened, the employees were VERY reluctant to do or believe anything EVEN after more than 5 people witnessed and talked about what happened. Man, you cannot find one of these dives anymore in San Francisco. Not only are beers only $4-5, but they do shots of their fortified wine (rotating flavors) for only $1. It's as sweet as the sticky covering on the tables. Yeah, this place is a little janky, and it's definitely crowded, but you get loads of retro games (e.g. Time Crisis) and pinball machines. You can spend an hour being lost in here (until you run out of quarters), and then when you're done, go next door to the taco truck. You'll thank me later. read more

I love this place. There's a ton of games, mostly pinball, and mostly vintage. But they're well maintained and cheap to play (1-2 quarters). They have ladies only pinball nights as well as general league nights. They also got the new Killer Queen (a 10 player game) which has league nights on Tuesday. Beer and booze selection is decent. It always feels like the best house party you've ever attended: an extremely low-key bar at the front, followed by a menagerie of pinball machines and a room upstairs for comedy or conversation, depending on the evening. This is a GREAT pinball and arcade bar! Add-a-Ball is tucked away in the Fremont neighborhood and it's simply a blast! There are lots of the older arcade games here as well as pinball. Some machines take a quarter and some are fifty cents. There are about two or three rooms downstairs that have machines to play on as well as an upstairs with one room with more machines to play on. There are some great pinball machines here, some are newer ones with a bunch of bells and whistles as you play as well as more older, basic ones. Probably my favorite pinball machine here at Add-a-Ball was a Martian Invasion themed one. That one was a lot of fun! The bar here is kind of small but they have a good tap list of beer. I saw a t shirt that they sold here which was very..."provocative" you might say...so of course I had to get it! This Barcade is by far one of my favorite spots in Fremont. Living in Capitol Hill, I rarely venture across the water for bars. Add a ball is the rare exception. This multi-story barcade is packed with classic pinball and 80's arcade classics. On weekends, it can be totally packed and you can wait a while for a machine. Luckily there's a great patio to mingle/smoked and a bar that seems like it belongs in someone's garage to serve your refreshing beverages.
