Adobe Lodge made our wedding reception dreams come true! We got married in June 2023 and cannot imagine having our reception anywhere else. We got married at the Mission Santa Clara and so it was very easy to have our guests walk over to the Lodge. Cocktail hour and dinner were served al fresco and then we went inside for dancing and cake! It was great to coordinate everything thing through Adobe Lodge, specifically through Hailey, the Director of Catering. She helped up bring the vision to life ever since we booked the location a year before. All rentals are through their partner, so deciding on place settings and colors was very streamlined. Adobe Lodge just hosted our daughter's wedding reception this past weekend on the grounds of Santa Clara University. The venue, in a courtyard garden just outside the SCU faculty lounge and near the mission church, is very pleasant and the inside hall and terrace were also very nice. The food was catered by Bon Appetit, one of the best caterers in the Bay Area, and was great. There was ample parking on the street just outside the reception site and the University is easily accessible from all directions. Adobe Lodge's planners and staff worked with us tirelessly on all aspects of the planning of and preparation for the reception and the reception was a big success. On the basis of our experience, we can strongly recommend Adobe Lodge and Bon Appetit to all families looking for a venue to stage a wedding reception without any exceptions. read more

We hosted our wedding reception at Adobe Lodge this summer. The building is historic and has a very unique style that we liked a lot, and there are lovely gardens outside. We had our cocktail hour and dinner outside on the lawns and then moved inside for cake cutting and dancing. We also had access to an enclosed porch and outdoor patio area, which were great to allow guests to spread out and rest from partying. Our wedding ceremony was held at the Mission next door, which was very convenient since we didn't need to arrange transportation. We primarily worked with the catering director, Jessica, because they were short staffed during COVID. Jessica was helpful but very difficult to get in contact with, presumably because of the short staffing. Communication was definitely the most frustrating and stressful part of working with Adobe Lodge. However, she did make sure things ran smoothly. Adobe Lodge hosts a lot of weddings and other events, so they know how to keep things working efficiently. We were required to use their catering company (Bon Appetit) for all food, with the exception of the cake because their kitchen wasn't fully reopened after COVID. We sampled the food a few months before, and it was surprisingly good considering the caterer seems to specialize more in corporate and university catering than weddings. On the wedding day, the dinner service was very professional and efficient. Adobe Lodge works primarily with Danny Thomas Party Rentals for the chairs, linens, etc. The default options are included with the venue rental price, but we upgraded some of the rentals (chairs, silverware, and glassware). The default chairs in particular didn't look very nice in our opinion. Parking was a bit inconvenient for guests since it's on the other side of the SCU campus, but it wasn't a big problem (and there are a few spaces adjacent to the Adobe Lodge for vendors, pickup/dropoff, etc.). In terms of pricing, the venue rental price was very reasonable, but the food and beverage package was overpriced and was by far the most expensive part of our wedding. The rentals were also more expensive than we planned for, so we had to limit what we upgraded. Overall, we're glad we hosted our wedding reception at Adobe Lodge. It was stressful due to the communication issues, and the food and beverages cost more than they should have, but those were outweighed by the good parts. I just had my wedding reception at the Adobe Lodge on Friday 7/14 and was blown away by how seamless, easy, and enjoyable the whole experience was! I worked with Ryan and Jessica and they were responsive and accommodating to all of our needs. They were clear about costs and there were zero surprises (a GOOD thing when it comes to the bill!). The actual wedding reception itself was more than I could have imagined. They worked with my florist and other delivery folks to get everything set up and even helped my mom with signage! I showed up and it looked amazing. The tables were perfectly set, the food and menu were delicious, the staff smiling and so on top of it. I should also mention we just used all the house linens in white and did minimal decor and got so many compliments on how elegant and beautiful our reception was. I think this is 100% due to the fact that the venue itself is already so beautiful that it took very little effort to make it wedding ready. As someone who was feeling overwhelmed by all the wedding tasks, I am thrilled to say that I was able to just sit back, relax and have fun at my wedding! My wedding reception was a dream come true. The Adobe Lodge did an exceptional with the entire wedding reception. I contacted the Adobe well in advance of my wedding, something like 17 months. Since my ceremony was at the Mission Church, I wanted to make sure I secured a date at the Adobe in the summer and so I decided to book early. Their website has quite a bit of information related to Weddings and special events. I read through most of the information and contacted Leslie Panion the Special Events Manager for more information. My husband and I came in for an initial meeting and she spent about 30 minutes with us talking about the Adobe and its offerings for weddings and special events. She gave us a packet of information and told us how much the initial fees were. I won't list the fees that I paid for here on Yelp because I know that they have changed. I think its best if you call them directly to get pricing as it changes every year. After the initial meeting, I spent the next year and a half sending emails and making arrangements with the Adobe. They were really good about taking down all my requests and did a great job day-of executing what I needed. I got raving reviews from my guests about the quality of the food and how beautiful the set up was. The entire experience was exception and I will recommend this venue whole heartily to couples seeking to find a place for their spacial day. read more

This used to be the "Faculty Club" here at Santa Clara. It is a good place to host events or grab the lunch that you forgot to pack. They have gone through a few general managers in my tenure here at SCU but they seem to be getting better. If you are attending a wedding at SCU, chances are, you are going to attend the reception here. The food is all prepared by Bon Appetit (http://www.bamco.com/) which is a great company working to get sustainable, farm to table food into our tummies :) read more

ok, so here's the update after the wedding: Unfortunately, I was so busy, I did not get to try the fruit, but everyone said it was fresh and good. Crab cakes 5 stars. good, not greasy. lots of compliments. salad, can't go wrong. fresh. bread, fresh, good. beef tenderloin, delish. ppl were eating the extras! really good. only had few veggie dishes, they said it was delish. veggie lasagna to be more specific. service, perfect. All the servers took good care of wedding party and guests. washrooms clean and tidy. I went at the end of the night, and they were tidy! Tables and settings were nice, very organized. Very organized staff. Only con, no heat warmers for outside. Big Big disappointment as it was cold out. Unusually cold. :( But as soon as everyone had booze and food, we moved inside to dance and warmed up quickly. How fortunate for us to have been invited to lunch as we were in such a place as the faculty lounge or Adobe Lodge. The courtyard is lovely and I can understand why they have special events at this location. This review is for my wedding reception, which was in August of 2014 and which Adobe Catered. When my husband and I decided to get married at Mission Santa Clara, it seemed logical that we would hold our reception at the faculty club. Personally, I hate that weird Catholic tradition of getting married in Church in the morning and having a party somewhere else at night, and this allowed us to have a Catholic wedding while not driving all over the valley. Here's what I had to do to set up the reception: 1: Put down a deposit 2: Meet with the staff at Adobe to talk about the size of the wedding, and what we were planning. 3: set up a catering tasting and pick a menu 4: visit the showroom of the party rental business in Sunnyvale they contract with and pick out linens, etc. (the basic package is included in the rental) 5: confirm delivery, head count, entree count, give them a seating chart (optional), set up delivery times for flowers, cake, and other stuff. 6: come back the day after the reception and pick up leftover stuff (we actually had a friend do this). That's it! They set up everything, and did a beautiful job. They broke down everything, they handled the tiny snafus that happened during the reception. We did *not* run out of booze or food, which were my primary worries. I worked for a caterer in College, and I have helped plan some fundraising dinners before, and this was by far the easiest catering job I've ever been involved with. The staff at the mission is very competent, and I don't think I would have been half as relaxed of a bride if I had not been able to trust in their abilities. For weddings, I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

And I even had an opportunity to meet the Executive Chef. She is very nice and personable. The food was good! During the planning, Lauren made the process a truly amazing experience, from the elaborate food tasting to going over the final setup for the special day. When I first tried to contact the Adobe Lodge it was impossible to get in contact with them. I called and left 4 voice mail messages over a two week period and heard nothing back. I wanted to coordinate having my wedding reception at the Adobe Lodge and the wedding in the Misison church. When I first started calling the Adobe Lodge, Mission church had many dates open in the month I wanted to get married. When I finally made contact with Leslie over a month later, there was one date available in Mission Church. I'm convinced I only heard back because I told my mom and she contacted her boss. If you have family members who are less mobile than they once were, this is not the venue for you. To get to an ADA bathroom, you have to exit the Adobe Lodge and use a bathroom outside adjacent to one of the parking lots. If you have an outdoor reception you must use this bathroom. To get to the bathroom in the Adobe Lodge, you need to go up a combination of stairs, a steep ramp and possibly through the kitchen. I wouldn't want to go traipsing through the kitchen with my grandparent when they are in the middle of prepping food. When we commented on the stairs/ramp, the manager showed us the "easier" way through the kitchen. The manager had to move chairs during the tasting to show us how to get there and stated that during a wedding reception, "it gets pretty busy in here." So how does your grandparent navigate moving chairs in a busy environment? The food at the Adobe Lodge was very bad. We went and sampled the food twice because we were told that our disappointing first experience was not representative of their food. On this assurance, we booked the Adobe Lodge as I was anxious to get things reserved for the wedding. This was a big mistake. After our second tasting we were so disgruntled that we decided we couldn't use the Adobe Lodge. Below is a detailed description typed into my iphone at the second tasting. Mushroom bruscetta: the bottom completely saturated in oil, the mushrooms were quite oily as well and chewy; the oil dripped down my hand/wrist Crab cake: half of a small crab cake had enough oil to saturate a cocktail napkin Chicken kabob: I got a piece with a large piece of fat on it; the whole stick was saturated in the sauce very messy also it appeared as though the chicken was boiled then painted with sauce Tomato fontana cheese tart: tastes like cold Little Ceasars cheese pizza (I just graduated in 2007, so yes, I remember what that tastes like) Potato: like the first time, it resembles an oily roadside diner breakfast potato tough and over spiced; not spicy but too much dry spice on it, so much it tickled my throat; fiance had a raw potato next to an overcooked one Raspberry vinagrette: tastes like a candy syrup Chicken: is very dry, literally can't take a small bit w/o drinking water; the mushroom on top is a shriveled thing that looks like it could be an animal product meanwhile the pepper on top of the same dish is completely raw Orzo: is apparently flavored with nothing but butter; tastes like rice-a-roni Both kinds of rolls very dense and dry; flavor is not good asapragus: very thin, wimpy and limp; when picked up on the stem part, not the tip, it bends in half; staff asserts that the asparagus has just been grilled; I asked how long was it grilled for; she responds that's what happens to asparagus when you grill it for a long time; I then asked how did griled asparagus get so oily... Doesnt the grill dry stuff out after a while? Vegetarian napoleon: looks and tastes like they stuck the layers together with tomato paste; the vegetables are rubbery; eggplant looks very brown and meat-like; Pork: did not use mushroom sauce and its got no flavor and drier than the chicken; also a thick layer of fat around the outside **** Given all of the negatives listed above, I would have expected to receive most or all of my deposit back. However, no one from the Adobe Lodge ever bothered to ask why we held our reception elsewhere. After we stopped contacting them and made no plans with them for our reception, we did not hear from Leslie for at least 6 months. Two weeks before the reception was scheduled she sent me an email and asked me if I wanted to begin making plans for the reception. In case you haven't planned a wedding or are in the beginning stages, your vendors will generally want to contact the site of the reception. You will have questions for the reception site and will be in touch with them. At the very least you'll get your food choices made prior to two weeks before the wedding. My point is, that if I were planning my reception at the Adobe Lodge, she would have heard from me and my vendors long before 2 weeks before the wedding date. Have your wedding in Mission church, take all the pictures you want on campus and then go elsewhere for the reception. read more

There is variety of shoot areas; available light, open sun and shade, different fore/backgrounds, elevations, and perspectives, all in walking distance. Easy location changes are conducive for a variety of images. Groups, heels, and heavy dresses appreciate this! 3. The location is smack in the middle of Santa Clara! Plenty of restaurants, hotels, shops, gas stations, entertainment, etc. 4. It has a bucolic exterior with mission architecture, and everything happens in spacious courtyards that are well buffered from area traffic, noise, telephone poles, etc. 5. The setting moves outdoor to indoor, with all the advantages of both without compromising lighting or beauty. Guests eat in grassy open courtyards and then dance in a charming indoor area. 6. The stage of getting ready happens in beautifully windowed rooms with gorgeous iron fixtures and wood beams. Parking can get a bit tight on busy weekend days. read more

We wandered around Santa Clara for a little while before finding this venue, but we liked it once we found it. They have beautiful exposed beams and a really cool tile floor. The layout was a little challenging for having a medium sized wedding plus a dance floor. We would have to move tables after they ate to fit in a dance floor. The person showing us around was so wonderful to work with. It was freezing but she took us out to the small patio behind the venue. It was very nice, but we passed on it for our style wedding. read more

Up until the day of my wedding my rating would have been a 2. They are impossible to get in contact with (until you get their home cell phone number, which thank god they're willing to give out). But the week before my wedding, they were amazing! We basically were there every day, delivering things, making the centerpieces, and they gave us a lot of space, and let us do everything we needed to do right on their premises. The food the day of was absolutely incredible, the service was incredible, they were efficient, effective, responsive, and overall awesome. Note about food: I am a vegetarian, at the tasting, I made a list of my favorites, and then met with the chef to alter the recipes. He was awesome, responsive, and totally willing to go above and beyond to make it work! We had: crab cakes (the mother in law LOVED them), spanokopita (my family is greek), the quiches, for the buffet we had vegetarian crepes with spinach, mushrooms, ricotta with a red-pepper sauce (absolutely loved it!), some type of chicken (i wasn't in charge of that part :)), yummy potatoes, salad... and i forget what else. Oh, and we had them make sangria, and it was incredible and a huge hit! they bought the fruit for super cheap, and we got them the wine. My fiance and I found the staff at this facility very unprofessional. It is next to impossible to reach the event coordinator either via phone or email. We were planning on having our wedding reception at this site and had made arrangements close to the lodge, but found the event planner (Leslie) extremely slow at returing our calls or responding back to our email inquiry. Actually, let me clarify, she never returned our voicemails and took over two weeks to answer our email about setting up a time to view the location. Instead of calling us back to schedule a time, she emailed us a single time for an appointment and never wrote back to us when we requested a different day and time. We got better response from all other locations which ranged from mom 'n pop restraunts to vineyard-wineries and hotels. How hard is it to email a response back? So we decided to search for a different location, seeing as though the staff here can't even handle responding back to a simple email, I just didn't have the confidence that they could help coordinate an actual wedding reception. read more

The Adobe's director, Ryan, helped me plan my sister's baby shower at the Lodge. He helped me pick out a good menu, stay within my budget, and helped me plan out the event design. On the day of my event, the catering captain Christina was very helpful, along with the catering staff. I had some people cancel but show up anyway and the Adobe staff was quick to accommodate them. The buffet was especially gorgeous and everyone raved about the food. I highly recommend! read more

My Wedding Planning: (this is only part 2, read my previous review for even more info) In the process of our wedding planning and attempting to get a hold of anyone at the Adobe Lodge to make an appointment to ask questions and take a tour, I called and emailed for an appointment at least 5 times. I was deeply offended by the flippant and dismissive attitude of the Chef Manager, Tiana regarding my complaints about a lack of urgency and availability among Adobe staff in response to my requests to book the venue for my wedding. Not only was Tiana extremely rude to me personally, indicating that my wedding was not a priority because it was so far into the future (everyone knows that wedding venues in the Bay Area regularly book up more than a year in advance) but most disturbingly, I was informed that Tiana actually spoke ill of me and related the private details of my phone conversation with her to another Bride (who, as it turns out, happens to be my best friend). At the very least, this shows an shocking lack of professionalism. After my BFFs wedding we met with Kelly on September 16th, to discuss our own wedding reception and resolve a variety of deep concerns created by the Adobe's blatant mismanagement of my best friend's wedding. While most of the issues were satisfactorily explained by Kelly, we left the meeting with one specific question (if we buy the premium $40 per person bar package, do we still have to pay for corkage on the special champagne we want). We were supposed have an answer from the Adobe staff prior to our completion of the contact and our issuing of a deposit. Nearly a month has gone by with no response to our questions and our previously articulated fears regarding the staff's lack of availability, lack of attention to detail and lack of follow-through have consequently been reaffirmed. I have been looking into other venues and in contact with other vendors. In the time it took the Adobe staff to (not) answer one question, I've toured venues, signed contracts, put down deposits, met with vendors and created our entire menu and initial lay out. read more

I've had a few faculty lunches here at the Adobe Lodge. The process is always a slow one. Though the food is definitely a step up from the other dining options on campus - the ingredients are high quality and fresh. I typically will opt for a salad and at least try a tasting of their soup of the day. The garden area is beautiful and definitely fitting for a wedding reception. read more

We just had our wedding at the Adobe Lodge and we couldn't have been happier with Jessica and the staff. Jessica was incredibly helpful and patient through the entire process! The Adobe Lodge was a one stop shop - tables, lighting, linens, food, beverage. Having most of our event needs in house made the entire process so much easier! Jessica also helped coordinate with our vendors (florist and DJ) coming onsite before the start. Also, the location was perfect being next to Mission Santa Clara where the ceremony was. The gardens themselves were stunning and the back patio made for an enjoyable evening for those wanting to a break from the dancing. Outstanding organization and service. Charming historic building and patio area. The food was mainly very good. My charity group hosted a cocktail party and dinner for 30 couples, with a guest speaker. We had 4 delicious passed hors d'oeuvres and an open bar, a seated dinner with wine and dessert. We were able to keep to a 3 hour schedule with the superb waitstaff and excellent IT support for our slideshow presentation. They were able to stay within our budget, and I would definitely recommend them. read more

We absolutely LOVED having our wedding reception at the Adobe Lodge! It was such a beautiful venue! We had our meal outside on the lawn against the backdrop of the sunset, roses, and a multitude of flowers. When it got dark, we moved into the lodge for cake and dancing! Leslie was so professional and did such a wonderful job helping us to plan our wedding. The appetizers/cocktail hour was wonderful; the tables were beautifully decorated with elegant dinnerware; and the meal was delicious! She also made sure her team put all of our wedding favors at each place setting; she took care of special meal requests by our guests; and she even had a kids' room in the lodge where our smaller guests could watch movies and draw. Leslie also organized a pre-wedding sample meal so we could taste different appetizers, main courses, and wines before deciding on what we wanted. Leslie worked with each of our vendors--cake, flowers, DJ, photographer--and made sure each had everything they needed to make our day so special! From the very beginning, Adobe Lodge was incredibly easy to work with, absolutely on top of their game, and made planning this event far less stressful than we ever could have imagined. Adobe Lodge made the planning a breeze by managing all the rentals, coordinating with our other vendors, providing the catering (note: the food is FANTASTIC), assisting with day-of coordination and dealing with all the set up and clean up. Both my husband and I are alums of SCU, so when we booked our wedding at the Mission, we naturally wanted our reception at the Adobe Lodge. To be honest, our initial dealings with the coordinator, Ryan, at the Lodge were difficult. He was occasionally hard to get a hold of and did not seem as on top of it as we would like (we later learned that the catering coordinator was on maternity leave during the majority of the planning time for our wedding, so that probably contributes a bit to this as it sounded like he was doing everything himself). However, the day of our reception, Ryan exceeded expectations. Everything looked the way we imagined and he did not fail to ask us and our families if we needed anything. Our reception went very smoothly and was very magical. It looked gorgeous. The food was excellent and our guests enjoyed themselves. If you are planning a wedding at SCU, the Adobe Lodge would be a wonderful place for a reception. read more

We held our wedding reception at Adobe Lodge, and it was perfect in every way. Tiana is such an amazing chef. At our tasting, we devoured every delicious bite, unable to decide between all the incredible offerings. Tiana was so accommodating, creating a personalized menu that was exactly what we wanted to offer our guests. When the actual wedding day came around, the food was just as good as it was at the tasting. Our guests are still raving about it, saying it was some of the best wedding food they have ever had. The entire team at the Adobe Lodge worked so hard to make our day flawless, and it all paid off in a beautiful setting with outstanding service. While the food served here for the rehearsal dinner we attended was basic fair (salad, chicken dish with veggies, rice and a cream sauce), the servers we had could not have been more accomodating. Now, I am one to eat pretty much anything and can get slightly annoyed when people are picky for no reason. This wedding party however, had a vegan, a vegetarian, four Kosher, one lactose intolerant, one allergic to ALL tree nuts, one allergic to soy, a couple of kids, and a partridge in a pear tree. While this might seem normal to some people, I am so used to eating whatever's put in front of me, I have a very hard time sympathizing with so many dietary restrictions. But the server, no matter how many times we asked, requested, or returned dishes for remakes so that it didn't touch anything else on the grill/stove was so intent on making sure every guest had what they needed and wanted, she was amazing! Always with concern and a smile she happily abliged to all requests and took a huge load off the bride and groom's shoulders. The lawn was beautiful and gardens recently manicured. The Adobe Lodge is like a hidden gem in the southbay. We had our wedding reception there, with dinner in the Mission Gardens outside and dancing and cake inside. The setting is beautiful, the service was excellent, they set up everything exactly the way we wanted, and the food was really good. We received a lot of compliments from our guests. They were very organized and coordinated with our DJ on the timing of things. They even brought my wife a plate of appetizers while she was getting ready for the Bridal Party intro in case she hadn't eaten. They were also very flexible when we wanted to drop off stuff and also helped pack everything up for us, including washing the cake knife set and toasting flutes for us. I had the pleasure of attending a baby shower at the Lodge last Saturday, January 24, 2015. My fiance and I are having our wedding at the adobe lodge next February. We decided on this location after attending a friend's wedding there. Both the food and service were REALLY good. My fiance and I have met with the wedding coordinator (lesley?) several times. She's been super helpful and even introduced us to the sous chef, who came up with a great menu. She's really helped make my fiance feel comfortable, which isn't always easy. We're looking forward to our big day. We'll keep you all posted on how things go. read more
