We came here on a Saturday morning for brunch and they did not disappoint. Our group of 6 ordered: The Frenzy, Biscuits & Gravy, The Anchor, Breakfast Tacos & Chai Spiced Oats, cup of Clam Chowder. Everything we ordered was done very nicely and came out hot & fresh. Portions were huge; we all came in hungry and left with 2-3 boxes of leftovers. Coffee was refillable. So we celebrated our anniversary weekend in Anacortes and saw this restaurant rated pretty well so decided to visit it for dinner. Place did NOT disappoint! Crab cakes melted in our mouths, the Salmon in Risotto was truly delicious and full of flavor and my husband enjoyed his shrimp and fried noodles. We topped our dinner with a decadent chocolate and coffee cake. I think we will stop by again before we head home and try other items on the menu. For our first meal dining out since the pandemic began, my family chose a nice outdoor table at Adrift and overall, it was an absolutely lovely experience. Our waitress was attentive and friendly throughout the evening, and the food was uniformly good. Particular highlights seemed to be the pan fried oysters, that my brother absolutely raves about, and the veggie dish that I tried, an amalgam of cheesy potatoes and seasonal vegetables. My guy loved the hand cut French fries, but they weren't crispy which is how I prefer them. Found this place based on Yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. We got lucky and were able to be seated without a reservation (7:30pm-ish on Saturday). The service, drinks, appetizers, and organic grass-fed burger were delicious! The outdoor seating is pet friendly and our dogs loved getting treated to carrots. The inside was filled with sweet, succulent crab meat, scallions and just enough roasted red pepper to add some flavor without overpowering the crab. Mouthwatering. Either Adrift doesn't have AC or it was broken. Food prices seemed a bit high to me. We ordered a couple of Red Beers paired with a Pilsner for $5 each. The V8 addition was chintzy and unavailable in a spicy variety. My wife ordered the half order of Biscuits & Gravy for $5: one buttermilk biscuit and sausage gravy. She also added one egg to her meal for an additional $1.50. The half order was plenty to curb her hunger. I ordered the Anchor for $8: one egg, one sausage link, mashed potato patty and toast. It was our first time to Anacortes and chose to eat at Adrift based on Yelp reviews and it was 20 steps away from Majestic Inn where we were staying for the weekend. To start off the customer service was amazing, everyone was so nice and attentive with a welcoming personality. For appetizers we got the Dungeness Crab Au gratin which was so yummy!! After reading the postitive reviews, we wanted to order takeout from this restaurant (figuring that there wouldn't be space to eat there). After an hour of trying to call (and getting a busy signal), we walked to the restaurant to see if we could place a take-out order that way. We waited in the "to be seated" line to speak with the host. He (maybe the owner/manager) said yes we could place a take-out. He directed us to the counter server. We went to the counter greeted the server and explained what we needed to do (we had looked at the menu online and had our order already written down). The server first said he would help us after taking care of "just a few things." We weren't offered a menu. Then we watched him offering to take new orders, refilling bread baskets and the like. After about five minutes, we motioned to him to remind him we were there. He then said that he had a "million" things to do and could get back to us in maybe another five minutes. We got the distinct sense he wanted to do just about anything other than take our order and that "five minutes" was going to be considerably longer. He asked if delaying was okay. We said thanks but no thanks. We left, disappointed but also understanding that restaurants face staffing and other shortages. The irony is that the counter server could have gotten a 20% tip from us in just taking our order and bringing us the check and the order when it was done (just two interactions). But then again, maybe we didn't fit the profile of being the kind of people the server wanted to choose to serve (we had our masks on). Needless to say, we won't be trying again. Perhaps a lesson learned (and one restaurants might consider including as a qualifier on their "yes we do take out" messages on their websites) is that take-out won't (or may not) be available during busy periods. We don't eat out much, so maybe this is a big "duh" on our part. It certainly doesn't encourage us to try to eat out more. read more

A waste of time and money. We stopped in last Saturday for lunch. Our main criteria was a place without a wait, and this place was the only one that fit the bill. We quickly learned why. Service was slow and lackluster, even with the dining room mainly empty. The hostess/waitress that seated us used every bit of body language at her disposal to let us know we were inconveniencing her by coming in. The waitress that served us was flighty, didn't seem to know the menu at all, and frequently forgot we were there (perhaps she wasn't used to having two tables at once? I don't know). I had to ask twice and wait 20 minutes just to get our check so we could get the heck out of there. Further, once emptied our water glasses sat empty, even after requesting a refill. Don't get me started on the food. I'm no stranger to small restaurant fare, being the daughter of a restaurateur myself. I understand that a tight menu that makes the most use of a limited range of ingredients is good for the bottom line and for the kitchen staff. And that might have worked in this case, if the kitchen staff had any clue at all of what to do with these ingredients. For example, it's obvious that whomever designed the menu considers gorgonzola to be the epitome of the gourmet touch. And perhaps it could be, if it was paired with the right ingredients and seasoned appropriately. Unfortunately, the cook obviously has no clue how to assemble food of the caliber this place is trying to pawn off on the public. We had a Skagit burger (which was okay but slightly overcooked and nothing special -- you could find similar at any fast casual place and blue cheese would have been a better pairing), the grilled cheese (I was curious about the cheese pairings as they seemed mismatched -- I should have trusted my gut as gorgonzola, poor quality mozz, and what seemed to be cut-rate block cheddar did not go together well), and the tuna (what is listed on the menu is what you get -- no salt, no pepper, no seasonings beyond dill are included in the tuna. Bland at best). Oh, and don't get me started on the gorgonzola "dressing"- some gorgonzola soaked in watered down buttermilk. Learn to use some herbs! We won't be back, that's for sure! read more

Had also some of the local oysters which being on the briny side were still very scrumptious and extremely fresh tasting. The other choice we made was for the 'catch of the day (Ling COD) burger with balsamic braised red onions and garlic mayo. The house made potatoes were very tasty with the Rosemary herb seasoning. Lastly the sparkling rose wine option totally sealed the deal. The staff too deserves great acknowledgement in their service and thoroughness of info about options and local made hot sauce!!!
