***UPDATE*** Last week I was able to talk with a rep from Help Center Support/Customer Relations. She was very professional in allowing me to fully vent my complaints and frustration about their outsourced, offshore customer service department, and about their billing system. She was also very friendly, so much so that I apologized for the anger and frustration I showed in dealing with customer service. I think she was genuine in stating she didn't blame me. that it was understandable why I got to that point (yes, I'm paraphrasing here). I don't think anything was really resolved regarding corporate practices moving forward, except that she removed the $1 late fee. But the positive result is that I now have an actual corporate customer service person I can contact if any similar issues arise in the future. This is comforting because as I've said about a company outsourcing customer service functions, it both isolates and insulates them from customer complaints. So, this issue's been settled, at least, and we're staying with ADT. read more

Their service call fee minimum is that of a mechanic, even for doing something as simple as changing a battery. If you change the battery yourself, they say the equipment was tampered with and that's a separate fee. If you want to cancel your service, do it 30 days before your contract ends, otherwise they charge you for the next 30 days. I called when they told me to- June 19th, which was when my contract was set to terminate. They should have told me to call May 19th. Anyway, they're scheißers. Oh, and Tammlar Holloway is the RUDEST and most ignorant sounding representative. I would not want her representing my company with her lack of professionalism. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she lied and stated she is the supervisor. After she hung up on me, I called back. She never answered, but what do you know... I got a supervisor and they had NO IDEA who she is. She also gave me some address that I could "write to if I wanted to speak to a manager". Stay away from them! I would give ADT 0 stars if possible. I originally contracted ADT in May of 2023. After a fire at the house, I called to have my service transferred to the apartment. They canceled the previous contract and agreed to a new contract for 12 months. I never agreed to anything longer. When the tech came to install, he said that he could not use the old equipment, that I would need new. I specifically asked him if it was included and he replied that it was. After installation, he asked me to sign something on his hand-held device. When I questioned it, he assured me that it was just to acknowledge that the equipment had been installed. This will be important later in the saga. When I first called in the beginning of October, 2025 to cancel the service at the end of the contract that I agreed to, they claimed that I had a 36-month contract. Apparently, what I signed on the day of installation was not simply an acknowledgement of installation, but a new contract. This was never disclosed to me. I have called again and again trying to resolve this. Every time, it gets "escalated" and then I never hear back. Finally, in June, 2026, they canceled it but are now hitting me with early termination fees. When I called again on June 30th, I spoke with someone in account management who assured me that those charges would drop off at the end of the billing cycle for which I had already paid (July 5th). They have not. In fact, they have already sent those fees to collections. Bottom line is, I never agreed to a 36-month contract. The tech blatantly lied to me regarding what I was signing. I have already filed a complaint with the BBB and plan to file with Consumer Affairs. I am not the only one with this issue. I purchased a home with an ADT alarm system. I never turned the service on. Last night, the smoke detector went off (false alarm) and then the system went off. Since I don't have the code, I can't shut it off. I was finally able to at least silence it but when I called ADT and spoke with their tech rep, she just kept telling me to Google how to turn it off. I commented how bizarre it was to call and speak to a tech rep only to be told to Google it. Frankly, I will never be your customer. If that's how you treat people, I'm not at all impressed. Not to mention everyone I spoke to was foreign and couldn't have cared less about my issue. Horrible customer service. One guy asked me if I installed the system myself. Who on earth does that? We most recently found out they had a major management turnover situation had occured due to the treatment of customers. I wish I could give ADT 0 stars. This company has caused my family nothing but trauma, fear, and absolute frustration over the past 2 months of having the service. The nightmare started when our alarm went off in the middle of the night, blaring through the house and terrifying everyone inside, including my young children. The police were sent to my home, only to find that it was a false alarm--caused by a sensor that had fallen off the wall. When I called ADT the next morning, their "solution" was to re-stick the sensor using Command Strips. Seriously. That's what they told me to do for a supposedly high-end security system--use arts-and-crafts supplies to hold it together. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and it happened again. Another false alarm, this time claiming a window had been opened. The sirens blared, the police showed up again, and once again, we were left shaken and exhausted for no reason. The sensor had not even fallen off the window, just an unexplainable error in their system. At this point, I called ADT demanding a full refund. This system had done nothing but scare my family, disturb our peace, and waste police resources. The representative told me she was a "manager," but couldn't issue a refund because I was outside of the refund window, which is apparently just three days after purchase. THREE DAYS. For a system that's supposed to protect your family for years. To make matters worse, her only offer was to send a technician out--in a week. No urgency. No escalation. She also refused to transfer me to anyone higher, claiming to be the manager and insisted there was no one above her to speak with. ADT! thumbs down to this horrible company customer service department. First of all the reps are speaking a foreign language neither you or they understand. They tell lies about the billing agreements as far as the equipment installment payments. Nowhere in the agreement does it state you owe a balance if you make an additional payment towards the installment. They act as if they don't know where the additional payments are applied, also if you know you owe one set amount for monitoring monthly and one set amount for equipment monthly and you make a total payment including both amounts. How is it that the billing department don't know where to apply these payment rather late or on time payments, but they received the funds. And your bank statements reflect those funds paid out to ADT clearly on your statement then you call ADT to clarify your proof and they connect you with multiple customer service reps and none of them are on the same page as to where your funds were applied. But yet your installment payments remaining and installment balance remaining reflects the fund disbursed to ADT from your banking account. Then the customer service rep tells you that you missed a payment months back and it was never addressed. But yet from all the payments you've made you are still up to date on the monthly payments just not paid on time. And you still have a past due amount owed. Mind you in the state of Michigan it is illegal under the federal law-- to charge a consumer's credit, debit or banking account on a recurring basis without their express informed consent. Companies must provide a simple mechanism to stop recurring and/or automatic payments and Cannot FORCE!!, Hide or Trick consumers into auto billing. ADT need to update their billing system and retrain their customer service representatives to be on the same page. I've been a customer with a ADT for 12 years. Recently called customer service to discuss some issues and question why my monthly bill is slowly rising. I am up to $48 a month and all ADT does for me is monitor. I was horrified to discover that there are charges on my monthly account that are incorrect or possibly fraudulent. When I brought it to the representative's attention, that person tried to lie their way out of it. I was also told that I could not receive an itemized statement, because they don't keep those due to possible rising costs at any time. What! What kind of an answer is that. Worst customer service ever. They are a nightmare company who doesn't care about their customers as long as they get paid every month. And...they trick you into servicing THEIR equipment. NEVER EVER BUY THEIR SERVICES I've had ADT for a couple of years now and have had multiple problems. 1. The outdoor camera they installed last year stopped recording for several hours during the night, which is when I want it to work! ADT's go to response is to get me on the phone with someone who asks me to climb a ladder in my garage and check the connection on the ceiling! Then they ask me to go out side with a ladder and put my phone up near the camera to check more stuff! If I didn't do this they would send someone to my house for a $60 trip fee plus other charges! To resolve THEIR equipment issues!!!!!!!!!!!! After multiple calls with a "technician" and climbing up on the ladder and checking everything multiple times, I was told I needed a new camera. Which they resisted installing multiple times. I called over and over, providing "evidence" of the camera not working, telling them their own technicians said I needed a new camera, etc. Finally they agreed to send someone out to supposedly replace the camera. I reminded them to make sure the technician brought a new camera with him, and they assured me they would. They gave me quite the run around about the $60 trip fee, promising they would talk to a few "managers" about waiving it, and they would get back to me within 48 hours--of course they never did. When the technician arrived of course he didn't have the camera with him! All of this effort took many hours of my time, during which I'm supposed to be running my business, so I lost money due to ADT's irresponsible actions. After a couple of months of this, they finally replaced the camera. It still doesn't record all the time but I gave up trying to get it fixed and couldn't spend any more my time doing their work. 2. Recently, the control panel said one of the sensors' battery was low. I had no idea which sensor it was as there is no "list" of sensors and their locations. I looked up the issue online but was unable to determine how to identify the specific sensor nor what battery it might need. I started a live chat with one of their reps, who couldn't tell me which sensor it was nor how to figure it out, nor what type of battery it needed. After 20 minutes of this I had to go back to work so gave up again. The only way I could use the alarm system was to bypass the sensor with the low battery. I lived with this for several weeks because again, I'm working and don't have time to figure all of this out. Finally, the sensor showed it needed "supervision" whatever that meant, and I couldn't set the alarm at all, so I went back to the chat and got another friendly rep who couldn't help me. After 20 minutes, he told me to hold on and he would connect me with someone who could set up a phone appointment for me with a technician. I also asked him if I could get a refund for the time I wasn't able to set the alarm. He told me he couldn't refund anything until the issue was resolved. Again, I needed to get back to work so anticipating probably another hour to resolve this I gave up again. In the meantime I get a survey asking me how satisfied I was with the chat rep! I told them the rep was polite and professional, however, since they didn't bother to equip him with the information to actually help me, the service was worthless. I didn't hear anything from anyone about this. Crickets. More evidence that customer feedback isn't important to ADT. While all of this was going on, I stopped paying my bill because I'm not able to use the alarm system, so ADT starts frantically calling me for payment. I figure I'll call them and sort it out when I have time. I called the Billing Dept a few days ago and actually got someone who knew how to identify the troublesome speaker, which battery it required AND how to bypass the sensor until I could get to the store, buy a battery, come back and install it, all of which I did and now the alarm system works again. I called back to the Billing Dept to ask for a refund and was told by a very rude "customer service" rep that I should have been able to change the battery in 5 minutes and they don't give refunds for non-working batteries!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hung up. So after all the time I spent troubleshooting this issue, the numerous contacts and attempts to resolve it and finally getting it fixed, this snotty woman decides to treat me like an idiot asking for something undeserved. Then there was an issue with the panel and the Wifi. Our Wifi was working perfectly. Not the panel though. So they wanted to send someone out, for $75. That was it. Employee Review for ADT Multifamily Division: wrongful termination - had to go to HR twice during my 10 month tenure. The first mgr created hostile work environment, refused to follow up work tools like CRM log in credentials when there was a delay; aggressively yelled at me in a public hotel lobby and falsely accused me of slander after discussing working conditions with teammates. The following mgr actively tried to sabotage me by gifting prospects that should have been mine based on the company's policy to my peers; removed the support of my Business Development Manager from me to ensure I could not achieve the requirements of the PIP; canceled the lion's share of my 1 on 1 meetings that were supposed to be used to provide support. He also provided false information about me to HR as support evidence for my termination. My goals and sales territory were also changed in the middle of my 6 months ramp up period removing most of my sales leads. Received no severance after termination and workforce relations department conducted an "investigation" that failed to follow up on key items and ignored black and white written evidence provided of above items. I have recently learned that other terminated team members have received severance and I have been denied severance even though termination reason is the same. Unethical management. This is the worst security company for the last week I have had nothing but trouble with there billing company! Never do auto pay with them!! They made a mistake and said I didn't pay and I was looking at my payment on my Visa card so they billed me 383.05 for equipment and told me they would credit back the money on 3 business days and then I look at my card today and they charged me again 20.20 and said I would get my credit of 332.30 in 5 days I took them one day to charge me and now they say it takes 5 days to give it back. I actually don't know if my ADT review is site specific - but I can sure as hell say it's ADT specific. Their customer service is the absolute worst service I have ever received. They charged me a labor fee for a 12 min visit without ever telling me - When I called to get a refund, the first person I spoke to sounded drunk. he couldn't form one cohesive thought. the second person I spoke to passed the buck and told me to call a different number. The third person I spoke to was useless. It was supposedly a manager. All in all - all they are taught to do as a customer service rep is repeat your complaints, say they understand your frustration, then they do absolutely nothing about it. This has to be the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. I started with Brinks decades ago, then ADT acquired them-ugh! I have been an ADT customer ever since, but it has been a nightmare that keeps getting worse! They are so disorganized and inept that it is incomprehensible to me that this company has even 1 customer. Oh, that's right, they lock you into a 3-year contract-well, there's that! You can't get anyone on the phone in less than 20 minutes, and even then, they push you from department to department with more people who can't help, or they give wrong information-the employee training must be awful! The equipment has issues constantly, trying to get someone out to help is a job and a half. They should start paying me for all the time I put in! We moved out of state, and it went from bad to worse; they forgot my install appt, but never told me-I found out later. So they sent someone out with no job order and none of the equipment that I ordered with the sales rep. He had nothing on his truck, so instead of the install taking 2-3 hours, it was literally ALL DAY of my time as he kept driving back and forth to get equipment which wasn't close! Thankfully, I did not have a fully executed agreement yet (another failure of theirs due to incorrect pricing), so I was able to cancel and get all their equipment out of my home. Using ADT is like inviting a fox into the hen house. On a monthly basis, ADT has been charging me for two former addresses as well as my current address. They are stealing from me just as surely as if they'd broken in. My inability to clear this up led to their shutting down my account. My ADT cameras sat uselessly on my house while I was burglarized of a washer, dryer, leather office chair, and two laptop computers. I called ADT customer service AGAIN, about this same problem, and spoke with a representative named, Kevon. I explained my ongoing problem with this outdated system. I was given a hard time about verifying my account, even with exact info and the problems I was explaining to him about this! I finally remembered my passphrase and during our conversation, (unknown to me) he was able to reboot the gateway. I was extremely concerned, So I questioned the fact that, if he was able to do that without my knowledge, could another employee, be causing this issue altogether? (Prior technician or Customer Service rep) He explained that I would see any other logins on the account, if they did..which seems odd, because he said he did, while I was talking with him, which I didn't seem to see, when I checked later! He suggested to schedule a technician to come out and check the system, which I agreed to. I requested a specific one, because two of the three, that had been here before, (the initial set-up and a fifth camera install), were not very professional! READ THE FINE PRINT!!! We purchased an ADT system as we wanted to keep our family safe. Unfortunately, we quickly learned that dealing with this company is like negotiating with Lucifer himself! We tried for months to get them out for service as we had a sensor that would start beeping in the middle of the night. They kept telling us how to do this ourselves and it would return to no avail. Finally, I spoke to someone who with the flick of a switch was able to silence it. Believe me we cancelled. Low and behold the damn system is beeping again- it is driving us mad. I told them to come and get their equipment out of my home- they have REFUSED! I made it all the way to the office of the president. There is zero help or accountability. This is where the fine print comes into play- apparently the contracts state that they won't remove equipment! EVER!!! This is a safety issue, it beeps all the time, how would we recognize an issue to a malfunction, it is a health issue- we are losing sleep. We are long-standing customers. They do not treat customers with decency or good business practices yet they expected their large monthly bills to be paid in a timely fashion. Maybe since Google now owns a stake in ADT they will pick up on Google's motto "Do the right thing." Shockingly ADT called me today to offer me the deal of a lifetime to stay with them- not in a million years ADT. I said sure come get this first- I was given a nonworking number to arrange that. Still waiting for answer from them regarding the problem i had with them last Tuesday. Told them what the problem was, sent them all my information. No answer. We have close to 1400 families in our community. Our Master Board renewed the contract. ADT gave me the wrong price on an addition i had asked for. They still have not answered me if they are going to honor the price that i was quoted. They quoted the price and they will not honor the mistake they made. read more

Set up ADT for a new home in Florida from Pittsburgh where we were living at the time of service. We had the service less than a week and the magnets on the door fell off and could not arm the system. Had to have our son drive 30 mils to open the door and place magnet back in slot and it fell again with in 24 hours. The system needed rebooted often as we could not monitor from a distance. The icing on the cake was when the magnet fell off the back door and it was mistakenly left partially open by my mother who was alone in the house at the time. The alarm was set for the night and all appeared to be secure except the back door was open all night. Fortunately for her, the only intruders we had were 6 field mice that decided to make our new home their home. That was the last straw as the back yard camera detected nothing as it was unaware of the back door being open. Upon our return home, we decided that ADT was not for us and decided to cancel the service. we were told that we would have to pay for the equipment as they could not take it back and that our contract for services was a whopping 5 year contract, instead of the normal 3 year contract and that we would be responsible for that and to cancel was over $1800 for monitoring services. I agreed to pay for the equipment as it was honorable but I refuse to pay a cancellation fee for services that were flawed. Be very careful when looking at this company as for protection service as it is flawed but be extra careful on the contract that they want you to have as it is deceitful and fraudulent. I asked for my contract to be cancelled after paying for equipment in full and all I get is a statement in the for cancelling a flawed system. An 87 year old woman being subject to being invaded by mice when she arms the system provides no protection and does not provide a sense of security at all. We gave them chances and they need to do the right thing and cancel the contract without extortion but as a good will gesture for a substandard product. I had a phone message from an ADT rep over the Laborday Weekend that said their yearly ADT test did not work for our address. I called today 9/2/25 and was surprised that I could not find anyone who could assist me -- nor would they have the same information;; only different info for each rep. The last person I contacted said that she could find no account for us. i then decided to cancel my service and I could not even do that. You should be able to cancel a service that the rep says is "not in service" I find this to be quite disturbing. I will call again earlier tomorrow morning and try to cancel the account that does not exist. If I am unsuccessful,I will send a certified letter with a signature reqirerd to thier corporate office in Florida to cancel. I will never utilize ADT in the future. Oh, by the way they send an invoice every 3 months and the last one on July 4 was for $140.56 which we paid and have paid for the last years. I would avoid ADT. I haven't had working service for 18 months. It is impossible to contact customer service without waiting at least one hour. When they do answer, be prepared to pay extraordinary costs for service and hardware if you want a problem resolved. This is by far the worst company I have ever encountered from a home services perspective. I would recommend newer startups that are more reasonable in price, offer better technology, and have a reliable customer service department. read more

On September 26, I had a video doorbell installed by my front door by ADT for $214.00 extra. My HOA pays for the rest of the security system. ADT assured me that the video doorbell would be fully functional and add to the security of my home. The internal battery immediately began draining power and became useless. I called ADT and they sent a technician to investigate the problem. The technician said that the problem is that the existing doorbell transformer is not sufficient to operate the ADT video doorbell. It needs 18-24v of electricity and my transformer only provides 11v. I told him that ADT should have told me this before installation. He said I would need an electrician to install a larger transformer. They don't do that. I called a few electricians and was told that it would be at least another $200.00 to install a new adequate transformer. I had another service call for a second opinion. This technician confirmed the problem. I then called ADT and asked them to remove the doorbell and reconnect my old doorbell. They refused to schedule an appointment for this. They said to call my HOA for a refund. I called my credit card company and disputed the charges. I'm still waiting for a satisfactory resolution. I have no functional doorbell. The credit card company gave me a conditional credit. I would not recommend ADT to anyone because of their total lack of customer service. read more
