This happens to be a really good, local Auto Parts Store. I've been in many times and they've been glad to change my wipers for me. I recently needed a battery for my Prius. Was surprised to find out how expensive it was when AAA came and checked. Unfortunately the AAA guy didn't have one in stock. I called Advance Auto and Dave was just great. He know exactly what I needed. When I drove in soon after, he replaced the battery quickly and efficiently, with a smile. It was at least $30 cheaper than AAA too! You don't necessarily expect old-school, attentive service at an auto parts store, but these guys go above and beyond. Most recently, I showed up with my vehicle's battery and electrical system failing. They helped me diagnose that it was probably the alternator (not good new$ but accurate). They explained the situation clearly and set me up with a loaner battery, which they installed free of charge, so that I could get the car home without having to call a tow truck. Regarding Advance Auto Parts 5127 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 Buyer beware! I am basically a trusting person, wanting to believe the best of people. I purchased an Optima red top battery from this store last week. I contacted the store and asked if they had a "fresh" battery and was told they had a Jan. 21 battery in stock. Optima batteries have the coded date of manufacture on a long white sticker on the side as well as on a simplified smaller round sticker. I asked Miles for the January battery. He brought one with a 12/20 round sticker. I restated I wanted the January 2021 battery. He said "Oh, right" and brought a battery with a 1/21 round sticker on it. Foolishly, I did not double check the larger white sticker (until I was home). Obviously, he switched the small round sticker, which was removed from the installed battery (also noticed at home). I had a very simple problem. The trunk light in my vehicle had grown dim and I wanted to replace the bulb. I checked online for this location, and the #98 bulb I needed didn't appear to be in stock. So I phoned. I spoke to someone who tried to help, but he indicated that the bulb I needed wasn't in stock and couldn't be ordered. He suggested I bring my bulb in and see if I could find another that would fit. Normally I wince at suggestions like this, since bulbs are generally rated for an application and substitutions are well-documented in cross-reference charts. But, after having no luck on-line at the other stores, nor in person at Mal*Wart, I decided to give them a try. This was on a Sunday morning, quite possibly 4th of July weekend. The store wasn't busy. The bulb I needed certainly wasn't in stock, but a "try this one" equivalent I found online was. However, I thought I had another idea. If I replaced the entire trunk light fixture with a generic one that used a more common bulb, then all my worries would end. Generic trunk lights are available at Mal*Wart, so I was sure this place would have one. But the cupboard was bare. Thinking that maybe it was a counter part, I took my business there. I was told they didn't sell generic trunk lights. Then the conversation took an interesting twist. It turned into a sales job for Christian Brothers Automotive just up the street to repair my existing trunk light. Now, most folks walking into an auto-parts store are looking to do-it-yourself and avoid a labor charge. I'm sure a few folks think they can and find themselves in over their head. But this was a simple light fixture replacement that I only needed a part for, and here I was being sold service instead of the part I wanted. I left buying the "almost right bulb" from Advance, since it was the very closest match I could find. But I sense a hidden agenda here. I think that in the future, I'll stick to the Advance store at Slaughter and South First. They seem interesting in getting you the part you want when you want it and nothing more. read more

This shop's incompetent store staff gave me the run around over a 4.99 cent fuse part for 2 days. First they had it, only to find out they didn't have it, but would have it deliver to their store in 2 hours. Then 2 hours, 30 mins later they still didn't have it. Then the next day, they said they now do have it and that there is "2 in the back" only for me to drive in for the 4th time and no one knows what I'm talking about. They couldn't find it. They took no ownership of the time wasting and run around they gave me. No apologies, bad customer service. Apparently I am the one who is wasting their time. They helped me get the on line discount by ordering off their computer in store so I didn't have to do it on my phone. They walked me through it and as soon as they order was placed they installed my battery for me. The whole thing took about 20 minutes and I drove away with a new battery in my car. The shop who just serviced my Jeep told me my check engine light was coming on AGAIN because of a battery issue that was not something they fixed. I brought the vehicle to Kayla at the new Broadway store and BAM. She was able to diagnose the engine light as a minor problem with one of the radiator fans and not the battery (which was actually 100% fine). AAP stocked the exact brake and turn signal bulbs I needed for my A4 Avant. Wasn't sure if they would, but thought I would try before going to the stealership (that's mean, because I actually really like those guys, but they will over-charge for something like this) and dropping a $100 for what should be an easy DIY job. I'd changed fog lights and headlights in my old Passat before so how much more difficult could a rear housing be? Remarkably, it was much easier! I went down the well-stocked bulb aisle and brought to the counter 4 different bulbs that looked sort of right. The helpful and friendly salesman looked it up on the computer (duh, I should have thought of that) and determined it wasn't any of them, but a style known as 7506 which also fit the reverse lights. And they were so cheap, I went ahead and bought some extras. I'm sure the left side will go out any day now. The friendly helpful attitude impressed me so much I will definitely return. I never thought I would be giving an Auto parts place 5 stars before today. I hate dealing with auto issues. When my brake light came on in my late Land Cruiser I waited until I needed to use the emergency brake to stop before I ever decided to observe the dash board lites. And, I ended up trading it in for a 4 Runner instead of putting it in the shop and having to deal with the parts department. So, this morning I wake up and 4 icons are lighted on my dash board -maint, check engine, AVS TRAC, and an auto swerving lanes. So, I popped the hood and checked all my fluids and line connections - all good except the engine filter looked pretty dirty. So, I decided to buy a new air filter instead of taking my auto to the dealership, which is what the manual says to do when any of these icons are displayed on the dashboard. I get to AAP and tell the guy my make, model and year and tell him I want the reusable Canon engine filter. They do not have it in stock so he makes a phone call to have it transferred from another store within hours. I mentioned the icon lights that popped up on my dashboard and he said "I can check that for you" . We went out to my car and he hooked up a "thing" under my steering wheel and started my car. The "thing" read that I had a very small emission leak. He did not try and sell me a part to fix the leak so I was impressed and relieved that my auto is not in immediate danger. I feel safe to drive my auto this weekend and enjoy planned activities without worrying over my auto engine thanks to Ross or was it Russ... I will get the leak fixed asap before it gets bad. read more

Went to my local store and tried to get a battery for my car. When I walked in both gentlemen were on the phone. Once one of them got off the phone he started to take down my info when he stopped to take another phone call right in front of me. I was exasperated as that had been the third place I visited since others didn't have the battery I needed. I finally walked out. This place is great. Can in a few months ago for wiper blades. The counter guy asked if I needed help in replacing them. Who am I to refuse help, it too him less than 5 min to replace them and get me on my way. Tonight was no different. On my way home my headlight went out. Needed brighter backup lights for 2009 Accord, went to NW area AAP in Gainesville FL, got help from salesman who sold me Sylvania lights for $21, said they were their brightest lights. Two problems: they did not fit into the sockets, and they were the DIMMEST backup lights I've ever seen, dimmer than the original bulbs. Went back that same evening with receipt and package in excellent condition, they refused to refund because the package had been opened. How can I assess fit and brightness without opening the package? Can't be done. Actually, their policy is "F U." ALWAYS ASK how you can get your money back, not just a store credit which is useless. I rarely write negative reviews, but this is unforgivable. I'll NEVER go back there. Auto Zone is MUCH BETTER in my experience. read more
