Needed a new car battery after my car wouldn't start and didn't have anyone who could jump start it because the shop next door to my house was closed. Hopped on the bus and headed to Advance Auto Parts to see if I could get a remote jump starter so I could drive it back to buy a battery because I know they install. Rob didn't want me to pay $$$ for the only jump starter in stock and called a friend at a shop nearby who picked up the battery and met me at my house and installed it for me in 10 mins for $. I came in for some motor oil, and walked out with a hula doll. She even swings her hips, how could I resist?! Yes, this is an auto parts store. I'm not sure it's the cheapest, but it is the most convenient to me. The only 2 "auto parts" I've ever bought here was a car battery, which they installed quickly and professionally. They even commented that my corroded ass battery was the oldest they'd ever seen (11 years old and still running), I was so proud of my Honda... good girl got a tasty treat of premium fuel later as a reward. And now, the second auto part was my hula girl doll. Otherwise, we come here since it's walking distance for other needed things: -sandpaper for my husbands saxophone reeds -oil for the lawnmower -Gumout carburetor cleaner for when our garage gets tagged by the neighborhood hoodlums (yep, this stuff works!) -misc. tools in their clearance bin A nifty place within walking distance to pick up some obvious necessities, with friendly staff to boot. read more

I bolted in after having discovered my battery was dead. My neighbor was gracious enough to give me a jump and follow me over to Advanced Auto Parts. It's too bad the employees at AAP could not be as helpful as my neighbor. Perhaps then I would have gotten some actual service. When I walked in, a gentleman at the front desk asked what I needed help with. I told him my battery was dead and it most likely needed to be replaced. He told me he would find someone to test my battery and asked for my patience. He was just a driver and they were short handed that day. Ok, cool. As the man dashes to the back, another gal behind the counter asks me what I need help with. I explain the situation to which she says: sorry, we are short handed and cannot help you with that. Come back in an hour. WHAT? I explain that my battery is dead and I've just turned off my car. What if it does not start back up again? What then? The other gentleman just said he was going to find someone to help me. She didn't care. She gave her "come back in one hour" deal again and proceeded to help someone else. Seriously?? I was with a friend looking for pop up camper parts. The store had some of the parts but not all. The salesman (Ruben) was extremely helpful and knowledgable cross referencing every part to make sure they had or did not have them. He ended up searching online and calling a different chain of stores to have them hold the missing part for us. Definitely went out of his way with customer service. As 2 females walking into an auto store, we were definitely out of place. Never once were we talked down to or made to feel out of place. Any time I go back, I'm going to ask for Ruben!!! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. They will boot your car if you go inside, not find what you need and not buy anything! Crazy huh?! After being 10 minutes in the store, my dad left because they didn't have the part he needed and they booted his car. He tried explaining to them that he was a customer, but couldn't find what he needed. Anyways, he ended up paying the fee and will never go back. Apparently this has been happening to others too. I needed a car battery so I googled and found this place wasn't toooooo far from me, and there was only one place that was closer but when I called they didn't answer the phone. Advance Auto lets you order parts on their web site then they're ready when you show up. I saw there was a $10 off $25 purchase coupon, so I did this. When I showed up the girl didn't really know too much about what I was talking about, but I encouraged her that if she looked around she'd probably see it. After a quick search, there was a shelf of items that were picked and ready. Mine was there. Great. But I was buying a car battery, so I had to bring in my old and get a refund (IL law mandates any place has to charge you for your non-returned battery, then when you return it you get a core charge refund). I had my old with me, so I asked for the core charge refund, she tried to figure out how to do it but couldn't. Another guy came (the assistant manager) and futzed around for about 15 minutes and called another manager who was at home with the day off... In the end they couldn't figure it out and he told me to come back tomorrow... They could see me as a customer and pull up my order but weren't able to refund the charge off of it, or something. I futzed and said I'd call. The neighborhood this is in is so so. It's fine to drive through, go out for dinner... When I arrived I was going to quickly pull the battery out of my car and take it in, so I didn't have to make two trips. (This is technically illegal, but I didn't feel bad when I pulled up and there were 3 other cars doing the same thing). While I was doing this a van full of sketches pulled up next to me and asked if they could help and they were wanting cash. I told them no but they were really persistent and didn't seem to ask anyone else. I finished but they were still standing by my car when I went in, which made me a wee bit nervous, but oh well. When I was done I went to my car and reinstalled the battery in a jiffy... By then the other cars had long left so I was alone... I heard gunshots (and this is in the middle of the winter) that sounded to be only a block or two away, and sketchy cars were constantly flowing up and down the alley. Fine if you're just getting a part but I wouldn't hang out there too long. I called back today and the manager figured it out and refunded the charge in about a minute. OR so he said. It never got refunded. I contacted Advance Auto customer service several times following that and they still didn't refund the lousy $10. So I had to actually open a dispute with my bank to get the $10 back. Thanks for wasting my time Advance Auto. read more

These guys were great! My car wouldn't start, and I assumed it was the battery. I found the batteries that would work in my car through easy to us Advance website. I could see that the battery I picked was in stock at my local store. Bought it from my phone on line. All very easy. When I went to the store to pick up, one of the guys offered to test my current battery. He found that there was nothing wrong with it, and HE RECOMMENDED THAT I NOT BUY A NEW ONE. He saved me $120 on a new battery I didn't need. It was great advice. Later, I brought my car to the dealership to repair the real issue. read more

This place is fine for your general auto needs. The staff are friendly enough and speak decent English (not a given in this 'hood). Lines can be long if you get behind someone trying to find some obscure part for their broken down, rusted out 1981 Astro Van. The store is kept clean and organized and the off street parking is plentiful. read more

I also needed a car battery, and unfortunately Costco didn't carry my size, so I was left to fend for myself. I googled and found that this was the closest place with decent prices and free installation. I ordered it online and got there an hour later. The guy at the desk was professional and courteous. Being a gay man in an auto parts store can be bizarre, but the guy who helped me with my battery treated me like any other customer. Thank god. We went out side, he installed the battery in about 10 minutes and I was on my way. It was an experience exactly like I'd hoped for, and for that I give them 5 stars! read more

Short lady around 30-40 not supposed to work there every single time she's giving me attitude yesterday I got in to an argument with her because she was so rude with me telling me to leave when I asked if a part fitted my car her response was so negative the other employees are cool but her she don't deserve to be there I want good service not a hypocrite person that don't want to help out at all I even left and talked to a employee and they kind of laugh at what was happening I don't think that was funny she needs to get written up I appreciate her the service in the store but I do not appreciate her help at all because every time she is wanting to give attitude to every single customer you go in and ask her for a part in everything and she just gives you this attitude and that is not how you're supposed to treat a customer I know because are used to work in grocery stores and other stores and you're not supposed to act the way she does read more

My windshield suddenly developed a large crack, so I went into AAP to see if there was something inexpensive to fix it, as it's a used car on it's last leg and I don't want to put too much money into it. The sales associate gave me a name of a place I can call to get it replaced for cheap. We even started talking about how my car's transmission is junk and he showed me websites where I can have a mechanic get a used transmission for cheaper than a new one, that would still be good condition. This person was obviously very passionate and knowledgeable about car repair, and i admire that in a person. I'm glad there are people like him out there willing to go above and beyond to help someone out, and I didn't even buy anything from the store! read more

We waited at the counter for 5 minutes til someone noticed us and checked us out. She didn't say hi or thank you or one word for that matter. I went to advance for a battery as mine was over five years old and finally died on me. I was greeted by David D. After small talk and telling him of my problem, David explained the options i had as far as warranty and power of the battery, and also offered to test my system to make sure everything was working. I bought the three year warranty battery and watch how Dave remove the old one and installed the new one with such ease, (i myself would have been lost). As he replaced my battery he noticed I had a corroded battery terminal and offer to install a new one if i bought it then and there. He installed it with ease and tested my entire system (which passed). The one thing that I was amazed was his proffesional attiutude including this day was raining, no complaints and just extremely helpful. This person has showed me that there are still some people with good work ethics and integrity!
