I needed some exhaust work done, and I was referred to these guys from my "regular" shop. I called, they had time to diagnose, so I take the car in, they get it up on the lift, and figure out the problem. Now, I already knew what the problem was because my regular shop had discovered it and explained everything to me, but they are a small shop and don't do exhaust work. Anyway, these guys didn't try to oversell me. Their recommended fix was exactly what my regular shop said it should be. They completed the work while I waited in the shop, then they even took me out into the garage to show me and explain what they did -- I really appreciated that. The coffee is actually good (to my tastes -- I'm a blue-collar, drink it black kind of guy -- caramel, mocha, double-shot, non-fat, over-the-top types should probably skip it) and they have a dog around the shop. The dog is awesome, friendly, and loveable, but I mention it in case you're allergic or something like that. I recently moved to Lombard, otherwise these guys would be my go-to shop #2. I only say #2 because I try to be loyal, and my other shop didn't do anything wrong, they're just smaller, so I had to visit these guys. Advanced Automotive Repair has also been consistently ranked at or near the top for automotive shops in the Northwest Suburbs. Started by just two guys, they've slowly grown just as their customer base has, and that should speak volumes. First off if you have a lowered car this is the place to go. They have a lowered rack so they can easily give you an alignment with no hassle, on top of that they have a really good amount of knowledge about coilovers and the ins and outs of lowering a car. We have taken our vehicles to Rod and Jim at Advanced Auto since they opened shop some 25 years ago. I have always found them to be honest and offer a fair price. At times, their price might be slightly higher than the competitor, but when you compare apples to apples, you realize they are giving you a big more (eg...new brake rotors rather than machining, a 2 year warranty instead of 1 year, etc.) They also offer a loaner car or a ride back-and-forth to our home. When the repair estimate has been more than we were ready to handle, they would divide the payment up into two or even three payments. As a private detective, I'm extremely cautious and I trust no one! Jimmy and his team at Advanced are the exceptions! I brought them my 2007 Audi A-4 Cabriolet Quattro, which needed a new turbo and a replacement cylinder head. The Friday before our weekend road trip to the Twin Cities one of the tire on my minivan was totally deflated. The portable air compressor I had broke so I thought putting on the spare tire was a good option. Two and a half hours later in 17 degree temp, I could not get the tire off the axle despite repeated efforts donkey kicking it. I went to the shop to get their advice, and Rod gave me a canister of air so I could fill the tire and drive the vehicle to their shop to get looked at. Tire was inflated in 30s and was able to drive it to the shop and they were able to fix the issue without having to replace the whole tire. We were able to make our road trip with the piece of mind that the tire was sound. I really appreciate the guys' honesty and their understanding of my urgency so they were able to fix the tire quickly. I was really expecting to replace the whole tire and was pleasantly surprised when they told me it was just a fixable leak and only cost me $25!
