I bought a New Beetle with a convertible top, and the electrical was all bad on this car. The windows did not go down, and the top didn't work, and I tried troubleshooting the problem myself. I could not figure out the issue with my car, so I requested a quote on Yelp for car electrical places. Dennis was the first to respond, and he responded in like 5 minutes with a quote. I gave him a call to set up a time for Dennis to check out the Beetle, and I dropped my car off Saturday, 11/6/21, around 9am, when the shop opens. Dennis was able to get to the root cause of the problem with the Beetle, and he gave me a fair price on the cost for the repairs. Because there were a lot of electrical and door motor issues, I needed some assistance in paying for the work, and I was able to get work financed in the store. Dennis was able to order all my parts and start the job that day. Some parts needed a few days to come in, so I had to wait to drive my until Wednesday, 11/10/21, but it was worth the wait. On Dec 23 2022 I took my 2015 Corvette Stingray to Advance Stereo in Montclair to have them install color changing front headlights. The shop looked reputable so I thought I'd try them out. Boy, was I wrong. Todays was my fiancé's birthday, and I wanted to take her out to dinner to celebrate. I dropped my car off at 9:00am as instructed. 4 hrs later I get a call from the manager, he starts informing me that he did not have all the motherboard components that were supposed to be mailed to him from Oracle. He wanted to know if he could use the components that were already there in the light along with the new ones that Oracle had sent. Oracle did not send the whole package, i told him no he couldn't use the existing motherboard parts because they were defective. He said ok and hung up. I get another call an hour from the manager, he tells me he has bad new Oracle had sent him the wrong parts all together. He said he didn't check the parts numbers and that it would take another week to correct the mistake. I asked for a refund and four hours later I was able to pick up my car. Damaged to my front grill was observed. The installer swore he didn't do it. For anyone with a nice car I recommend that you do not use Advanced Car Stereo in Montclair. read more

Beware!!!! Do not go to this place! They will rip you off!! I purchased a flip down dvd, and after they installed the monitor I was told the sound only works with headphones and I said I wasn't okay with that, they told me that's what I asked for. One worker was able to fix the sound but it was still extremely fuzzy even with the headphones. I asked if there was anything they could do to fix the problem, and they basically told me there was nothing they could do about it. I asked for a refund because I was not satisfied with the work that they did, and they said they were not able to refund any money back. They tried to charge me $620 for a product that did not work properly. I had to make a scene in front of the entire store in order to get some of my money back. I was still left paying nearly $400 for a product that I'm never going to use because of how terrible the sound quality was. I also payed for a touch screen monitor, when I called to check on the car was told they needed to order a part and keep my car overnight. The next day when I called to ask what time it was going to be ready they told me that they got the part but now my heater doesn't work!! Mind you this is a brand new 2018 car! Never once did they call to inform me; I had to keep calling them. Also was treated like an idiot by workers Do yourself a favor, and do not go to this place!! They will rip you off. They failed to listen to my issues and concerns regarding the amp placement and problems regarding the stereo. I was told I needed the stereo because the one that I had wouldn't work for what I needed. Come to find out it's the same stereo. I was told I had to wait for a part for the stereo and nobody called me . Nobody could figure out how to mirror my iPhone to the stereo it took me having to make three trips to get it looked at. My stereo still does not mirror my iPhone ! I did not have to spend an additional $899 for a new stereo mine would have worked. I was told to go buy the wires that I needed across the street at Best Buy and none of those helped. Nobody took the time to hear me out and my concerns about the wiring and the size box. Nobody explained anything to me about how to work the system. I believe they took advantage that I knew nothing of car stereo systems and the fact that I was a female. I asked Dennis for my money back several times and he wouldn't do it. I've never had service like this ! They messed up my rear camera and there's a hole in my car cause they couldn't decide where to put the amp. Im not happy and taking them to court. read more

I went here to get an amplifier for my car. I haven't been here for awhile because I had a bad experience in the past with getting a price over the phone and once you are there the price is alot higher. Now this time I called and they said they had the amp in stock. I went down there to pick it up and the first gentleman that helped me was very nice and gave me a price that was 50 dollars more than other local shops but he offered to price match what he could find online. He was ready to ring me up and who I thought might be the manager told him that he can't sell it for that price unless they installed it. I asked them are you sure since I can get it at any other shop nearby for 50 dollars less. He told me to go buy it at another shop than. It's been a couple months since I went here to look into a stereo system setup and while the head guy was super cool, I just wasn't feeling the way they priced things out. I had work done at another place for my other vehicle and they always done good work and don't seem to haggle over the pricing as much as this place. While dealing with them wasn't a bad thing what really irritates me is their lack of attention to detail regarding the installation process. Maybe it's just me, but when you spend a lot of money monthly on a vehicle of choice then spend more money at a business for stereo equipment the very least they can do is hire detail oriented installers. I found broken fasteners where my kick panel won't click back in and screws laying on the floor of the truck. As well as missing felt cover for the grab handle and there was pieces of cut wire all over the floor. It just shows me they're all about making money and getting the next car in. I wanted to upgrade my car's sound system and change the factory head unit but wasn't sure what was out there nowadays or sure what I could even really do. I also didn't want to be heard coming down the block, I'm 39 now not 19, so just something that sounded clean in the car. I did some reading online and emailed a few places about what I was thinking. After some calls and texts with places I liked what Dennis at Advance Car Stereo was offering and liked that he was accessible and knew exactly what I meant when I explained it to him. He had me come in to listen to the current factory system to make recommendations. After listening I felt like he was honest and not just out to make a buck. For example, he advised I change 2 speakers, not them all, and he recommended packages in the low, medium, and high price ranges depending on my budget, which he didn't ask either. I liked that as it meant he wasn't just working toward a certain dollar amount I said I had to get the most out of me. And as he recommends items he shows you the prices online so you know his prices are fair. He even showed me all the prices of the wiring kits, etc he needed to do the install. Everything is up front with him and he's up for your thoughts, so you feel comfortable if he recommends something and it's too expensive or you want something else. He won't talk you into something you don't want, basically. So we got my whole system picked out, he priced it out, and then I had enough in my budget to add a back up camera, which was cool. Oh, and definitely something to highlight. I went in at 4:30 or so, we picked out all I wanted and then he had me driving home, full install done, by 6:30. I HIGHLY recommend this place. I wanted to upgrade my stereo for my teenager that was taking over my car as a Christmas present. I had an original stereo(2014) without any of the safety features and no apple play:( The communication with Dennis via Yelp was super helpful and even allowed me to pick a date and time for me to have the service completed. When I arrived Dennis was assisting another customer so Adam stepped in so I wouldn't have to wait. I ended up spending twice what I thought I'd spend but was super happy because I got exactly what I was looking for and the most important part my teenager loved it. It made her feel as if it was her car, updated and much safer. The original stereo I was interested in would not have met my expectations. I would have gotten what I asked for but not what I was looking for. I was guided to a better system that had all the features I wanted. In addition I got a new camera that has the safety lines when backing up. Surprisingly this was one of my daughters favorite features. Now she has an updated system with Apply Play, they connected it to the steering wheel for added safety and the upgraded camera is much clearer and has the guiding safety lines.
