This is a very small family business (much like the place I take my cell phone). So much better than some franchise or big conglomerate. I needed help at HOME...as the problem was not with my MAC--it was all internet. George came out Saturday morning at 8:45 - on time and ready to work. I had purchased a new router (the old one dropped dead) and Spectrum gave me a new high speed modem. It took a lot of fancy footwork to get it all up and running--which I never would have accomplished, Tested my other devices for WI-FI phone and tablet) and then remembered my Smart Thermostat for furnace/AC. I am someone who can say that they have been a loyal customer since the first year that they opened in town. I was simply no longer happy paying Geek Squad for their prices for something I knew was not that difficult. Advance Computer Repair is by far one of the most genuine businesses that I have come across. There have been many times where I have brought my machines in and for no charge at all, and they have told me if it's worth it or not to save it. Sure, there are instances where the price may seem a bit much for saving your files but you are always given that option to whether or not to pay it. I've never felt otherwise obligated or pressured to commit. After years of being unhappy with off the floor computers, I had George build me a custom (affordable) rig and I have been thrilled ever since. I have been very fortunate that they have been able to get me in and out as soon as possible to keep my business going. I have dealt with a few places over the years and I like this shop. The price was reasonable. The work was done well and the technician was both knowledgable and friendly. My gear was done when promised. I have let them fix and upgrade memory and OS on two laptops and data transfer from 4 hard drives and will let them do work for me again. The data transfer was just done June 2015. Unless I have reason to believe that have have changed in the last 2 years then I have no problem giving them 5 stars. read more

The bracket for my laptop broke and two other places wouldn't even bother trying to fix my laptop. So I decided to try here and with covid it was hard to find the part but still they fixed it for half the price of best buy. I read and appreciate the kind and professional reply, and a higher rating is deserved for that -- but my feelings about that day have not changed. I agree that in certain individual cases it may be worth what you're charging (especially if you have files you're desperately trying to save -- those could be priceless), but for an average Joe like me with a cheaper computer who didn't have anything I couldn't do without, anything above the cost of the cleanup wasn't worth it for me. You said that it was free to look at the computer to see what has to be done -- that's in 2015, and I visited in 2013 -- so that may have changed since then. I may not have been working with you that day --whoever was working with my computer then was having trouble turning it on, and told me that they would have to charge for whatever it took to get it on. When I said that all that was needed was to adjust the cord, I was not listened to and the same individual told me that I would be charged. The cord issue was a separate problem, and it wasn't why I was visiting. Now, I DO agree you should be paid for your time, but when I provide a quick temporary solution to a problem one of the technicians is having and that technician ignores me and tells me I will still be charged for whatever they find, I don't find that reasonable. I also don't remember being offered the installation of any type of office products, only the antivirus software -- and when I asked what antivirus software would be put on, the guy told me it was Microsoft Security Essentials -- which is free to download. When viewed in that light, it's not really an "extra". I decided that with the initial cost of the cleanup plus any other charges, I would be happier just buying a newer computer comparable to my first one. That's what I did, and I'm happy with my decision. Believe me, I'm all about supporting new businesses and would prefer to support them over a chain, but not when I get that feeling like I'm being taken advantage of in any way, shape or form. It really was less about the cleanup price itself and more about everything that was said afterwards. I should say though that I appreciate your reply to my review and it does make me reconsider trying you guys out again, should the need ever arise. I took my laptop in to be repaired. The hinge that allows you to flip the screen up and expose the keyboard broke, and the broken hinge parts fell off inside my computer and also broke my computer fan. What a mess! Luckily I took it here for repair, and George took good care of me. The repair was inexpensive, and I feel that George went above and beyond. It turns out that on these laptops with 17" screens the hinges often break because the screen is just too heavy. I have an HP, and Hewlett-Packard does not make any replacement parts for it. Shame on HP. Seriously. So the only way to fix these is basically "salvage" parts which aren't easy to come by because again, most of these laptops with large screens all break in this same spot. Unfortunately, George was unable to find a replacement part for me, but he did doctor it up quite well to my satisfaction by adding plastic and glue to reinforce it where it had come apart. Of course he also fixed my fan. He also put me on a list, and if the part I need ever becomes available, he's going to put a small deposit on it and hold it for me. I feel like this is way better service and quality of work than what I would've gotten at Best Buy or somewhere else. I'm going to back my computer just in case, and when this one finally dies, I'm going to buy a smaller Apple computer, which is what I wanted in the first place. I couldn't get one because I was a court reporting student, and I couldn't get my computer aided transcription software, Eclipse, to work on an Apple. I am no longer a student so I think I will go ahead and get an Apple! But these repairs gave me time to backup all my music and files, and it was very economical for my wallet. I will definitely come back if I ever have any more computer problems. I highly recommend this place. read more
