Quick and painless like a trip to the dentist, right? I'm actually not sure if I had my appointment at City Derm or not (sign in the waiting room said Progressive Dermatologist). BUT my experience was not too shabby! As it was my first time I showed up a tad bit early to fill out some paper work and was seen just as I was finished signing my name. So I guess it was quick? Any who, my experience with both the nurse and doctor were fair. The nurse seemed to be in medical school as she didn't know some of the program on the computer. No big deal. The doctor (can't remember his name...short, white guy with light hair color) was very knowledgeable. His whole body scan took 3 minutes which I found to be very odd. From my experience doctors like to take their time here. He noticed one mole that needed to have a biopsy and he cut me open like a steak from Morten's! The quick cut wasn't too bad, but the bleeding there after has now lasted over 14 hours. It was deep, but it seemed as though the nurse did not give a lot attention to sealing the wound. Needless to say, I will be coming back on a yearly basis to get a full body check up. Great service and great people. Was in and out under 40 minutes! Can't beat it, bruh. read more

Doctor Troccoli and nurses are nice and friendly, but I always need to wait at least 30 minutes to see the doctor no matter if I came early or on time; sometimes, the waiting time even goes up to 1 hour. I visited this practice last spring - March 5th, 2020 to be exact. I waited over an hour to be seen by a physician assistant, even though I had an appointment. Maybe don't overbook so your patients can actually be seen within a reasonable time frame? The PA was nice and helpful for the most part. The front desk/office didn't ask me to pay a copay before or after my appointment, so I assumed my insurance covered the whole visit. Guess I was wrong because MORE THAN A YEAR LATER, just a few days ago on March 22nd, 2021, I received a collections notice in the mail. I open it and I'm shocked to see it's for $30.00 and apparently it's for the copay I never knew existed. I never received a letter from this office, not once. I can't say if they ever actually did send one since the mail can be unreliable but I never received one. This office also had my number on file. Why no phone call? Why not send a letter or additional letters if the first one was lost? You really send it to collections? Over $30.00? Yes, three zero. Thirty dollars. Clearly the people who work here don't know how to run things efficiently. If this had gone on longer, it could have affected my credit score and it would have been due to their negligence and incompetence. read more

I recently saw Dr. Jennifer Wong and she was so sweet and understanding of my condition. She was very quick to diagnose and prescribe what I needed, knowing I needed to be treated quickly. I'll agree with some of the other reviewers here that Dr. Parris doesn't have the best bedside manner--he's kind of brusque--but he's always been very attentive to all of the issues I've brought up and has prescribed very effective medications. My skin looks so much better than it did before I started going to Dr. Parris. I do want to add the caveat that he's not at all shy about writing prescriptions for heavy-duty antibiotics. If you're looking for a doctor who will try more gentle methods (diet changes, supplements) before going full-force, Dr. Parris is not right for you. That said, if you've tried everything else and want to see someone who will diagnose your problem and write some effective scripts, he's your guy. read more

I first went to see Dr. Parris a year ago when I developed what I now know is a mild case of psoriasis. I also had some serious acne action going on. I followed his instructions and everything cleared up right away. I am still seeing him for my acne (which is now non-existant) - we're now working on getting rid of some mild scarring. Honestly, how could I possibly complain about the guy? He may not be the most friendly and charming person, but again, I'm there to see a dermatologist, not a counselor. He's not rude or anything like that, so I'm not too sure what the other reviewer is upset about. I found his staff to be friendly and courteous, and they were also kind enough to get me on some program so that I could get the super-expensive antibiotic I needed for my acne for only $10 a month. I hate to agree with some other Yelpers but Dr. Parris is rude and condescending. I'm on a very pricey cosmetic medication that requires a blood test and visit once a year. When it suddenly runs out I forget about the required visit/blood test and I can't schedule an appointment for weeks! Then the assistants give me a hard time about letting the pharmacy give me some medication til my sceduled appointment. Once I was yelled at on the phone by one assistant who didn't believe her coworker agreed to extend my prescription! Jesus Christ! When I finally see him, he scolds me as if I'm a child for neglecting the blood test. As if I purposely want to sabotage my own health! Get over yourself! You have a God complex, apparently! Why couldn't he offer to send me a reminder when I was due for my yearly visit like a dentist would? Then when I have askled him several times to remove an ugly mole from my back (purely cosmetic) he is dismissive and tells me to forget about it! Listen, you tool, if I could forget about it, I wouldn't bring it to your attention every time I visit you. What does he care if I am willing to pay for it out of pocket? Is he trying to spare me the expense or himself the 2 minute procedure? So presumptious! And by the way, that girl who stands in the room with him *is* creepy! As a common courtesy, shouldn't he ask if his patient (of the opposite sex) is comfortable with another intern? assistant? nurse? who knows? looking on while he gets naked? The only reason I go back is because he is one of the few dermatologists in my neighborhood who readily prescribes my cosmetic medication and who takes my insurance. Was very to the point and we were able to handle our visit nice and quickly because he listened to what I had to say. As a licensed cosmetologist, I know a thing or two about skin care, so instead of talking over me and repeating back to me things I already know, he acknowledged that I know my own skin and what triggers it as well treatments have worked for me in the past. He advised me on how to proceed, and what might have changed since the last time my skin was flaring up, very cut to the chase. I get the impression he's not the sort to talk to hear himself talk, which is OK by me. He was nice enough, and even hooked me up with a coupon to get my first round of the (pricey) Retin A gel pump FOR FREE. He and his staff are maybe not exactly what I'd call "charming", but they were never unprofessional or rude. I'm not looking for roses and champagne, just a capable dermatologist! And my acne flare up has gone away, my tone has evened out again, and my skin looks better than ever. I don't think the assistant is CREEPY, she's not there to entertain, she's there to ASSIST and observe. She was courteous and polite to me, and made sure that I understood the instructions given to me for use and dosage of my medication, even though I had used it before. Due in for a check up with him next month, didn't see any of the strangeness others reported in their reviews. I will definitely go back there. read more

One day I was passing by the facility full of Dr.'s. saw a list of dermatologists, i was in heaven first they took my insurance for my daughter. She is suffering with acne. So I made the appointment with PA. Effie Rabinowitz. The first day that we meet we automatically connected, she knew exactly what treatment was needed to help my daughter with her acne. Since day one and now 2 years later follow up and any type of treatment whether it was for acne or other dermatology issue shes always helped find the solution. I had a very good experience at Dr. Parris' office. I called on a Wednesday and was able to get an appointment that Friday, which is fast by NYC standards. The staff working behind the counter was very friendly, even when I made a mistake on my paperwork (I was a new patient). They also helped explain how I would be charged for the visit, as I have a high-deductible health-insurance plan. I waited about 30 minutes to see the doctor, which is just the way things are in today's health care, so no complaints there. Dr. Parris himself was very kind, knowledgable, experienced, and professional. He was able to diagnose me at first glance and explained my condition to me in a way that was easy to understand. He also walked me through what he was doing every step of the way while he treated me. When I had a couple unrelated questions after (quick ones, not hypochondriac-type stuff), he happily answered and didn't rush me out of the office, as some other doctors do. If you live in or near Astoria and need to see a dermatologist, I'd highly recommend seeing him. read more

The doctor's and PA's are great. The office is clean. Wait times are iffy, it's based on when you sign in and NOT your actual appointment time. I arrived at 11:45am for a 12pm appointment, 15 mins early but someone else arrived at 11:55am for a 12:30 appointment, 30 mins early, and was called before me. WTF?! Since I was early I should have been seen first and not penalized because someone arrived much earlier than me. My biggest issue is they charge you a fee for using a credit card which is illegal. The merchant is responsible for the fee and NOT the customer. I have never had a doctor charge me a fee for using my credit card before now. Disgraceful!!! read more

I've been going to this place for maybe 10 years. I never had a problem with the doctor. The issue is the front desk and the company's policies. After my doctors visit They told me I had to pay $130 with my Insurance. I questioned why so much, because i know i used to pay way cheaper in the past. i SAID "i never paid this much before" And i asked "why it is so much?" so something felt wrong. She just looked at me and told me it's your insurance. I kept questioning her and she kept saying its your insurance. I paid and left feeling ripped off for some reason because i know i have paid cheaper in the past i never had insurance for years and it was always cheaper. So i called up A few days later and asked how much is a regular doctor visit without insurance it's $75! SO Why wasn't i charged $75? I was charged $130 with insurance. I called my insurance they said its the doctor's fault. I called the doctor office they said it's my insurance contract... I made an issue.. I been a patient for a long time, Not only me but my whole family goes here giving you BUSINESS. The manager told me the front desk girl "wasn't obligated" to tell me that it cost $75 without your insurance. "She wasn't obligated" HA! . EVEN AFTER I told her why so much?Expressing and telling her its alot of money, I GUESS she still didn't feel obligated to tell me that. She made me feel as if I have to pay that amount and there was no other amount I could pay but 130. In the end I got refunded over the phone, they know they were wrong. This definitely changed my outlook on this doctor office. On top of that the manager brought up my prescription medication that i plan to have stating that it would be expensive without insurance or with just letting you know. I said don't worry i can pay for it, i just dont like to be ripped off that's all. Honest employees AND BUISNESS would have said it costs $75 without insurance. Honest employees would have said yes because you used to pay $75 dollars. Honestly, i don't want to go back, if I do i'd really like to ask them about their "obligation policy" in person. Thank you Dr. Parris for diagnosing my bedbugs last year and putting the coordinators of my program into gear. Because of you I got to spend a weekend in a hotel in Jamaica (Queens) where there is cable and free wi-fi. Thank you also for prescribing the ointment for my bites. It really helped and now I use it for mosquito bites as well. That is some powerful stuff. You were a bright spot in a very bleak situation. Dr. Parris is a great dermatologist. He always checks all my moles for skin cancer suspicion and is very thorough. I also had to go to him for a mild case of paronychia which has since greatly improved. The girl that stands with him while doing his examination is his assistant and I find her very friendly. The girls in the front office aren't the most charming, but that isn't their job. They are quick, efficient and friendly if you are to them. I am not sure what other people are talking about with the problems in this office. The doctor's bedside manner may be a little abrupt, but after talking to him for a few minutes and asking him a few questions he gave great advice and he even has a unique dry sense of humor. I have been a patient for 3 years and intend to keep going. read more

Prior to visiting the doctor's office, I went to see my PCP and the referral was issued through the healthcare company's website. My PCP's receptionists are exceptionally good, and I know that they rarely make errors. When I went to see Dr. Paris, his receptionist insisted that they haven't received any referrals, and told me very rudely, "This is a business. I can't treat you for free. You have to pay the full amount of office visit prior to seeing the doctor." So I paid. After a month or so, I receive a letter from my insurance company notifying me that office visit fee was paid to Dr. Paris' office. I called Dr. Paris' office and asked for the reimbursement. i walked in when their office was about to close and dr jenn wong was kind enough to see me. i had a huge pimple on my nose ahead of a very important week ahead at work...she injected it and it was gone the next day as she mentioned. i also exhibited sharp pains on my back near the area where i had a formal skin condition. she gave me sound consultation and the pain subsided greatly over the following week. i'd highly recommend seeing dr wong and she was thoughtful enough to provide a follow up call as well. read more

I was referred to Dr. Parris by my primary physician and assumed he'd be great based on the overall professionalism of my primary. Not. When he came into the room, I felt so rushed and so uncomfortable, I forgot all the questions I had about what I came to see him for. He barely looked at the affected area before diagnosing me and explaining my prescription. I asked him a question about a mole I had been concerned about and he straight-out ignored me. As I was walking out the door, he said he wanted to see me again in a month, and, not thinking I needed to go back to the desk and make that appointment. He yelled it and rolled his eyes as if I was some idiot. As I was making the next appointment (which I later canceled) he had an argument with another patient about whether or not he was listening to her concerns about her condition. Also - the receptionists discussed bikinis the entire time I stood at the desk to pay my co-pay. Unprofessional all around. Don't expect to be treated with care here. read more

DR. Parris I am sorry to say is a rude and arrogant doctor, his staff is ok not the best but to me most importantly is the consultation with my doctor. I have somewhat severe acne and is mostly my acne scars I had no make-up on I felt very uncomfortable and he did not help or his assistant that stands in the room and does nothing, he made a joke very improper. With this new bed bug epidemic in the city, I unfortunately acquired bed bugs! yuck. So I went to Dr.Parris, who I normally see as my dermatologist but since my acne cleared but I haven't in a while. I again had a great experience there and would recommend him to anyone. He provided me with useful information on how to make sure the bed bugs don't spread and how to try to ensure not to get them again. Effie Rabinowitz is the PA I see at Advanced Dermatology. She is very knowledgeable, patient, kind and always willing to help with any dermatological issues. She has treated my acne with great results and a few other skin conditions. She has also treated my son for acne and a few other friends of mine. They all have had a great experience and for that I will always recommend her. Currently she is treating me with laser hair removal and I've already seen great results. I'm looking forward to some Intensif Micro needling sessions done by her in the future. When I'm seen by her, I know I'm in great hands. Thank you Advanced Dermatology for the amazing providers! I usually see her in two locations, the Astoria and the Commack locations. The receptionists and other staff in the Astoria location are very pleasant and helpful. However, I did not have the same pleasant experience in the Commack location. One particular receptionist who seemed to be someone in charge of the rest of the receptionists in the Commack location is very rude and made me feel unwelcome. For this reason my future appointments will be scheduled in the Astoria Advanced Dermatology only. read more

I was going to Dr. Paris for 4 yrs until he recently left for good unfortunately. Now there is a younger male dermatologist and Asian female one on certain days I won't mention their names. Every time I went to Dr. Paris I knew I was in good hands as he knew what he was doing and very experienced but can't say the same with the current ones. The current Docs don't seem to know what they are doing and aren't good with procedures...they even had me sign a waiver every time they did a procedure on me which Dr. Paris never did so u figure the math.
