Before you use this company be sure to check out their "reviews not recommended" on here. there are 91...bad!! My family has moved cross country five times now and I can easily say that our move with Advanced was by far the worst....and most expensive! Ours was a last minute move, so all of the major companies were booked for the summer months. Unfortunately we had to go to the smaller "mom & pop" companies to find someone with capacity to service our move. We finally decided on Advanced because they seemed to be the best choice. Our move began with a three person team showing up with a box truck to pack our 3000+ foot house. At the beginning of the move the main packer/driver said that they would be done in 6 hours and that their box truck had plenty of room for all of our belongings. I told him that I disagreed on both fronts but hoped he was correct. Fast forward 8.5 hours and the truck was full and we still had a room and the basement full of items to be packed. The driver wanted to go to their consolidation facility and come back to pack the rest of our stuff. My family (wife and twin 5 year olds) were staying at a hotel and I said absolutely not, because we wanted to get the kids to the hotel in time for dinner and a bath. After a few phone calls to their office the driver obliged. A different crew showed up the next day and packed the remaining belongings without going over what was packed on the sheet with me. They were obviously unhappy to be there and it showed. Our delivery date had come and we were told the driver and his crew would be at our new house by 9am to start the unpack. We were staying at a hotel more than an hour away (our city doesn't have any hotels) so we got up to arrive by 8:30am. When we arrived I called the driver and he said that he had some mechanical issues and was still in Connecticut (at least 2.5 hours away). I then called Advanced Moving's office to talk about the problem. The on duty manager answered the phone and was belligerent from the start. I asked when the driver was going to be at our house and he said that he had no idea because his truck needed to be fixed. I told him that we had at least 8 hours worth of unloading so if the driver was not at our house by noon we would need to deliver the following day. He then told me that if we pushed off until the next day that we would be responsible for the meals and hotel for the driver. I told him that was ridiculous and he hung up on me. The manager also told me that a cashiers check would be required for them to unload because I was being so difficult (the agreement was a check from my Multi-Billion dollar employer would suffice...which I had). I called back a couple of more times for status updates and was yelled at and hung up on further. Finally I went on twitter to try and get an owner or senior manager to call me. The owner of the company, Jim Lalagos, finally called me and apologized for his manager. He told me that the man was out of line and would be "dealt with." He also said that since it was now after 1pm that they would deliver our belongings the following day (which now required us to stay in a hotel again). The driver and his crew showed up the next day at around 10am. The truck driver decided to park on our two lane road which is set on a hill. He said our driveway wasn't accessible. Since I am not a truck driver I said, "ok, I guess that's your call." Because the road is on the top of a small hill apparently it created a potential for accident with people going into the other lane to pass the truck. Apparently our neighbors complained continually and finally called the police. The driver told the police, multiple times when they came by, that they were almost done. Finally the police said that they were either going to force the truck to move or they would need to assign an officer to direct traffic around the truck. The truck driver came to me and said that either I paid the $300 or he was going to leave. I called the owner, Jim Lalagos, again to discuss the situation and he maintained that this was my fault. I should have known that the truck would need a police officer and that was not his responsibility but mine, according to him. Now he was threatening to have the driver leave with my belongings if I did not approve the police officer's presence. Obviously I had no choice, so I approved the police officer to come out and direct traffic. My space is almost up on here, so I'll summarize.....all of the stuff picked up from the second crew in Illinois did not show up. The driver said that if I didn't sign the papers (even though he didn't go over each item as they brought it in) they wouldn't accept a claim. When I filed a claim they said I signed the paper (even though I put a note that I was signing under duress, they said too bad and disapproved all of my claims. I received a check for $9 even though they lost well over $2K worth of stuff. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

On June 14 We had a representative (Tyler) into our home to provide an estimate. We received a quote for $1600 ($180/hr) in which we would receive 4 movers and 2 trucks for an approximate 7.5 hour process. We supplied the $104 deposit and understood the remaining balance would be paid via cash or cashier's check. Fast forward to yesterday's move, we were told the crew would arrive between 8a-10a. All good there as a truck with 2 men arrived at 9a. Unfortunately, they indicated to me that the other truck was broken down, was being fixed, and they should arrive shortly, and the two men went to work. I called into the office to review what the new rate would be as we were receiving 2 men and a truck for an unknown amount of time. I was told, by Tyler, $111/hr which seemed a bit off seeing as though I was receiving half of what was proposed. I was told the hourly rate was "front loaded" and that the more workers used the hourly rate is reduced. I reluctantly agreed seeing as though I had to move. At 1p the second truck arrived with the other two men. The 4 men finished the load at approximately 330p and we drove off to the new home. Prior to unloading our belongings into our new home, the crew leader had a phone call with the office. I was then approached and asked for $1780 for the balance of the job which they believed they could complete by 730p. I was told that for every hour before 730p that they were finished they would refund me $180. I refused. How could I be asked for $280 more than the proposal and received nowhere the amount of manpower offered? Remember, I only had 2 men and 1 truck for the first 4 hours! I then asked the crew leader to get his supervisor on the phone to discuss this logic. He (Jim) told me that this was the hourly rate for what was received. I refused again, and things got heated. I was the one being punished for their truck breaking down. I asked to have the logic explained to me as it makes no sense! I asked him if I had all 4 men and the 2 trucks for the entire move how much more efficient could it have been. He could not answer my question. I asked him maybe 50% faster? His response, that's not how it works. I asked Jim maybe 25% faster, he refused to answer. Loudly, I told him that he has no faith in his crew as he would not give me a time saved estimate. I was then told if I did not pay the $1780 they would not unload my belongings. I gave the phone back to the crew leader. The crew leader had a discussion with Jim and he told me that they would reduce the ask by $90 requiring me to pay $1690. Again, I needed my stuff unloaded and reluctantly handed over $1690. The crew completed the unload and assembly at 630p. I was refunded $180 as I was told. Ultimately, the entire service cost me $1614, including the deposit of $104 made to book services. However, I received nowhere near the manpower for the same money as the quote. This leads me to believe that the quote Tyler provided is way overstated. If the job cost nearly the same having only received 2 men and 1 truck for 4 hours (slightly under half of the time) how quickly would it have gone if there were 4 men, the entire time? Remember the quicker it goes the less money I spend. The customer service provided by Jim was unacceptable. I, the customer, was punished for their truck breaking down. I get things happen and was not upset that the truck wasn't there until they asked me for $280 more than the quote. With all this said, the entire crew, on-site, was great. Professional, hardworking, courteous, apologetic, and took great care of the items and the homes they were in. Sadly, I have to say, use this company with caution as their quotes are certainly not realistic and their customer service from a business perspective is unacceptable. read more

Former employee here, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! 0 STARS ALL DAY. In fact it should have a negative -10 start rating. The owner Jim is a scoundrel of the worst kind and literally the worst human being I've ever dealt with in 40 years of life. His entire premises of the company is based on a scam. He gets your possessions on the truck and then will do everything he can to delay delivery and nickel and dime you. He will have his guy on the phone creating miscellaneous charges to increase the price. Then force the homeowner to come up with cash. It doesn't matter if it's Sunday night at 10 p.m. You have to come up with it or your possessions will not be given to you. Jim the owner is proud of his scam he's got setup. The guy should be in jail! While I worked there over a dozen customers called the cops on him and they would show up stating "oh we know he's a pos but there's nothing we can do as it's a cilvil matter". He will allow any bum off the street to show up and work for him. He has to do that because no respectable person would ever work for him. I got out of there a quickly as possible which was six months too long. The trucks are literally garbage and belong in the junk yard. Will leak oil all over your driveway or even have the E-brake fail and roll into your car or house. The place is a joke and that's putting it nicely. They should be shut down immediately. Jim makes you feel like you're signing a contract to buy a car. Which is completely unnecessary but you see this is all part of his scam. So you feel totally locked in to this "contract". I've seen customers charged $7,000 more than the original quote. A commercial job in DuPage where he charged time and a half for after hours work of course not paying his employees an extra dime over straight time. I was present for the call w the customer where she was dumbfounded on how the price could increase so much. I never saw a single customer where the price did not get increased. Or one where he did not stall out the job w some bullshit phone call where he was increasing time. We wouldn't even listen to him and knew he was scamming the customers so we'd start unloading immediately AS THE JOB SHOULD BE DONE. Jim and his son Tyler are such low life scum bags they literally steal from their own employees. Damn near every single check I received was missing jobs I did on it along w pay. I had to keep a notebook w itemized detailed notes of work completed. Jim actually figured out a way to steal the tip from his own employees which for me was the last straw. He will except an employee his very first day out of prison for murder to move your things with absolutely 0 experience. The tattooed scum bag Mike who used to work for them would CONSTANTLY steal anything he could and was a crack head. He knew Jim the owner for many years and claimed he himself was addicted to cocaine. I never saw him using but one things for sure there's something wrong w him mentally like BIG TIME. The 5 star reviews for this company are FAKE and made up. Probably by Jim himself. If you didn't take the time to read the yelp reviews and only see this after the fact I feel sorry for you because you are tangling w a snake. Let me first say that Advanced Moving and Storage is not the worst moving company but is a very close runner-up. THE GOOD: - arrived on the date that we agreed to move out of my apartment - nothing was lost - most of my stuff was undamaged - delivered my stuff in their own truck - delivery driver James was great - delivered within the delivery window agreed upon (13 days) - price was reasonable (you get what you pay for) THE BAD: - packing team was late by 4 hours. - packing team of only 3 men which should have been 4 for the amount of stuff I have. - one of the packers smelled like very strong alcohol. - packing list was not accurate or very descriptive - did not receive copies of the packing list because the CCs where used to list items - many items were not inventoried (I created my own inventory and marked boxes myself) - they took my wife's clothes after we asked them not to several times. was not able to get them back because they would not let us into warehouse where my stuff was stored. the owner had no compassion that my wife had nothing to wear. - did not allow us to see the weighing of the truck or provide a weight receipt. - was charged for full estimated cost because they lied about weight of shipment. - the delivery team consisted of the driver and 2 hired help from Labor Ready (not professional movers) - one of the hired help was a woman with flip flops on. (nothing against women but she was not prepared to perform move) - would not unload the truck until I signed a waiver that they will not be responsible for damage to the house. - damaged many pieces of furniture due to improperly packing and handling. - 2 table casters broken from coffee table - mattresses where shrink wrapped instead of bagged like I was told. mattresses are dirt stained where shrink wrap was torn - IKEA book shelf and tv stand where severely scratched because not properly wrapped - brand new bedroom set was scratched and dented - leg broken on my daughter's princess dresser. - company is unresponsive. they will tell you they will call back but never will. you have to keep calling them. Advanced is very unprofessional. The estimator Tyler is the only professional person at this company but that is were the professionalism end. The owner seems like he does not even care about his customers and will lie to you in a second. Many things were damaged but its not worth filing a claim because they will probably never pay or admit responsibility. Even though I purchased the full value replacement protection. If you roll the dice and use this company like I did, make sure you pack and inventory everything yourself. Use heavy duty boxes and lots of packing tape. Shrink wrap your own stuff and purchase mattress bags. Get a not-to-exceed estimate and expect to pay the full cost. I was told that the foreman would stay with the shipment and would be there for the delivery but lied to. The delivery driver James was great but was put in a bad situation when they hired unskilled movers at the delivery. He made the best of the situation and worked extra hard to get our stuff in the house without causing any more damage. All of the damaged was caused in the packing process or when they moved my stuff from truck - to storage - to truck. I do not recommend this company. read more

I contacted a number of moving companies for estimates. Two Men and a Truck Samantha was short with me on the phone, provided a phone estimate but the estimate never arrived in my email. The other companies could not perform within the time frame required. I called Advanced Moving and spoke to Suzon - she was courteous and the estimate was in my email immediately. The next day Shannon called to verify I received the emailed estimate. Follow-up is an important aspect of customer service in my book. Jimmy and Armando packed up my furniture. They were on time for the pickup - even though they were a little lost. I felt Jimmy was excellent in the care he took in wrapping my white sectional. Jimmy was very polite, professional and patient with my demands. He also gave us a great recommendation for a lunch place. My advice would be to watch how they are wrapping your items. If you pay for a mirror carton and they do not use it ask why, document it on your paperwork they have you fill out before they leave and call the office. I called spoke with Dorothy and she made note of the credit required. The delivery was earlier than expected which put me in a crunch, but ended up being a positive since it rained on Friday and Wednesday was beautiful. . They picked up Monday - estimated Friday delivery since it was a two hour out of state delivery but called Wednesday morning for a noon delivery. Yikes... James and Joe unpacked. James definitely was experienced and Joe in training... my only issue was a couple bed slats were not on the truck. They were taken off mistakenly when the truck was cleaned out. James took responsibility to find them. And he did in the dock area. The only damage I have found was Joe unwrappped the dining table legs inside the truck and carried them into the house; one of the legs was nicked... I suggested he carry them wrapped into the house. Both guys were very polite, patient and took my direction very professionally. I had to come back to town for my closing so I arranged to swing by their office. James and Jim stayed late to meet me and they had my bed slats and a credit check waiting for me. I would highly recommend them - but remember it is your stuff you need to let them know what is important to you. read more

I recently entrusted Advanced Moving Company with facilitating my move on July 17, 2023, and I am utterly disappointed and saddened by the service I received. From the onset, the moving team demonstrated a concerning lack of efficiency and professionalism. Despite having a lighter workload than anticipated, the team moved at a snail's pace, incurring an exorbitant and unjust surcharge of $700. The lack of necessary moving equipment such as Allen keys further hampered the process, forcing us to make multiple additional trips to transfer our belongings safely. But the inadequate service did not stop at inefficiency; it extended to negligence and utter disregard for our valuables. A TV worth $500 was carelessly packaged and consequently broken, shattering not just the screen but our trust in the company's handling practices. The negligence further reflected in the loss of a priceless family heirloom - a lamp that carried generations of emotional value was shattered, leaving us heartbroken and dismayed. As if the incompetence wasn't enough, we later realized that a unique table, part of a valued set, had disappeared without a trace, met with nothing but a curt and indifferent response from the customer service team. In total, we have incurred a financial loss of $2400 in damaged and lost goods, a sum no compensation can adequately cover, given the sentimental value attached to the lost and damaged items. A paltry offer of $90 as a resolution is not just insulting, but showcases a glaring disconnect with the gravity of the issues at hand. I find myself compelled to rate this service a meager 1 out of 5, a rating that echoes the lack of care, the inefficiency, and the rude customer service I experienced. I implore potential customers to reconsider entrusting Advanced Moving Company with their belongings unless they wish to risk a similar heart-wrenching and financially draining experience. We sought a service that would treat our valuables with respect and understanding, instead, we were met with negligence and heartache. We hope that no one else has to experience the disappointment and loss we have endured, and sincerely hope that Advanced Moving Company takes substantial steps to improve their services for the benefit of future customers. read more

I was initially concerned about Advanced, having read some of the reviews. However, I contacted the company and spoke with one of the owners, Tyler. He acknowledged the problems they had previously, said the had addressed them, and promised they would provide a seamless experience. I believed him. His team arrived on time, packed everything extremely well. They were courteous, professional and finished packing and loading, when they said they would. Since it was small move it had to go with a larger shipment and we were informed there would be a window of 3 to 10 days. we were moving from Illinois to South Carolina. They kept in contact with us regarding progress and anticipated delivery date. They got it to us within the window promised. When they arrived in Charleston we had 4 separate locations to drop items off at, the first being our home. The crew who delivered was also extremely professional, careful and courteous. They did a marvelous job. Most importantly everything was delivered in perfect condition. I had a fair amount of pottery and art. Everythinkg was in pristine condition. As far as I am concerned Advanced did exactly what we wanted. They exceeded our expectations. Businesses sometimes face management issues. Perhaps Advanced was "guilty" of some of the negatoive comments I read. But, if they did, they appear to have solved them. For my money these folks are great Fred P. Mount Pleasant SC read more

My experience is horrible. When the movers came to pick up my belongings there were only two men. And both had just come from a third floor walk up which they were happy to tell us about. Right away they knew they needed a bigger truck and more guys. So I asked how long it would take not only from the company but from the movers themselves and both estimated four hours. Nine hours later with four guys and two trucks and us helping and things being thrown around they were finally done. We were told the stuff in the other truck would be put together with the over stuffed truck and all be delivered. Guess what? Delivery came. Smokers also. Also we received a threating phone call 2 hours before delivery stating they wanted 600.00 more or no delivery because their estimate was wrong.Then four guys were here and they sent one home after standing outside arguing who gets to stay and who has to go. After four and a half hours and alot of bathroom useage by one of them and numerous smoke breaks they were done. After being taken for an added 600.00 the movers actually had the nerve to say within earshot and loudly "NO TIP , HOW WE SUPPOSED TO HAVE LUNCH NOW?' Oh back to the extra truck those belongings are still missing and the company states they are not that everything was delivered. I have started a complaint with the BBB and suggest no one ever use this company. read more

This company came as a recommendation from a friend who we trusted. We had a King bedroom set, computer hutch, dining room table, cabinet and kitchen table to be moved. When called to get a quote, the owner said it would easily only take 4 hours. I called the company and spoke to the owner because I was concerned that the movers were taking longer than the 4 hours to even load the truck. My sister who was there with the movers said there were three guys and two would watch the one take things apart instead of loading other items and stopping to rest on her mattress in between. My sister even carried the 14 chairs out to the truck to help. When the truck arrived at my house with the furniture the owner told the employees not to unload the truck unless we paid the $1000 cash. My husband called the cops which of course they can't do anything since it was a civil matter, but the cop said he moved 2 months prior and had the same issue with them. At 7:30 at night who has that kind of cash laying around when you only expected it to be $450. My husband, myself and two friends then had to proceed to get our furniture off the truck and put back together before the 10:30 timeframe or they would try and close the truck again and take our belongings. For more then I could remember I've been moving into new homes, not always because I wanted to but because I've had to. I know from experience that moving from one location to another location can be quite stressful. I found Advanced Moving and Storage on Twitter actually and decided to check out their website. Once on their website I retrieved the phone number an called into their office to get a little more information. Within the first 5 minutes I knew that this was the company I wanted to use. They were extremely friendly and personable as well as professional. They gave be a free estimate based off the items I told them needed to be moved. On the day of the move 3 men showed up at my house on time with all the right equipment and a truck. The first covered all my floors and banisters to protect them from any scratches or damages then they packed and properly padded all of my belongings. The move went under the estimated time and I was able to pay less. I was so happy with Advanced Moving and Storage I will definitely use them again and I will recommend them to anyone in need of a move! read more

I usually do not post reviews because honestly, I'm hard to please and I usually end up disappointed with the product, price or service I received. That was NOT the case with Advanced Moving and Storage. From our initial conversation to gather information on our move, from pricing, to what we could expect, everything was seamlessly done. We were told we could expect the movers to arrive at 7AM, at exactly 7AM the truck pulled around the corner !! The movers were professional, polite and took care of everything In an amazingly efficient manner. Additionally, we were told to expect the truck at our new home, in a different state at 8AM two days later. Again amazingly, the truck arrived in front of our new home, two days later at exactly 8AM. The truck driver was the same however, the movers were new and yet, they were as professional, courteous and efficient as the first crew. I really have no regrets with our decision to use Advanced Moving and Storage and would definitely use them again, if the need arises. I highly recommend considering them for your move. read more

I had a local move. Before the move was schedule Greg came and met with me and wife was super nice and professional. He walked around and assessed the move to require 2 trucks and six guys. He was absolutely correct in assessment. He returned and provided us free boxes and added extra for free. The day of the move, as it was agreed to start between 8:30 and 9:00 am two trucks and six guys showed up right at 8:30. They were all super courteous; they all introduced themselves. We did do a walk through and move began. Needless to say that I have lots of stuff :) - It took few minutes over 11 hours to get the move completed. During my time with this crews I found the entire crew to be super awesome, friendly, polite and very hardworking. And they worked like a well-oiled machine, helping each other out where needed. Me and my wife had taken the day off so were fully present with the team and interacting with them. I would love to use the same team and company for my next move and would highly recommend to my friends and family. HS read more

I have had the experience to have used Advance twice. Both times so happened to be during the winter time. The first time was in the winter of 2013-2014. Which was a brutal winter. Three guys showed up on time. They disassembled everything packaged and wrapped the fragile items. With trying to keep the foot traffic to a minimum do to the wet feet from the snow. They got all of my items from a 1500sqft two story town home out into there truck and to my self storage unit. And delivered some items to the new place we were going to be staying. Now we are in the 2014-2015 winter and I called them again to make a move. They stopped and picked up all of my things from my storage unit. Then stopped at the place that we were temporary staying at. And then brought everything to our new home that has just been totally remodeled. The movers again was three guys very fast very respectful. They did not leave a mark on any walls. The best part is I did not have to lift one thing and they took care of everything.
