Extremely poor movers damaged the house, including putting dents in the wooden stairs leading to the downstairs of the house. The head of the movers went looking through my old tools and other items and he kept asking me which tools he could keep, and which tools I intended to throw out. He was much more interested in what tools he could have than doing the job they were hired to do. They also misplaced a lot of items, like putting pictures behind other items which required me to go looking through the house for the misplaced items. They also were extremely expensive and did a really poor job, I would not recommend them under any circumstance. They did not show up on time. It was clear these guys were not professional movers but a bunch of you guys they hired off the street. Very unprofessional, very poor service. I would not recommend these movers under any circumstances, I was stuck since I was going through a divorce and did not have any additional time (days) for this move. read more

I can't recommend Advance Moving & Storage enough. They helped me when I was in a bind and needed to move immediately. They sent 3 guys and a truck and they sprung into action. I should have checked Yelp before using Advanced Moving and Storage. Worst moving experience out of the 7 house moves we have done. They were pretty good at wrapping furniture, but had no Idea how to move our grand piano. I used them because on the phone they said they were experience piano movers. I should have stopped the process when they did not even have a piano board to move it. They used a 4 wheel furniture dolly. I have to get a piano expert out to reset the keys. He had never seen this result from a move before. They also cracked the wood finish. Move took 2 hours longer than quoted, mainly because the piano was stumping them. VERY UNHAPPY with the way Advanced Moving & Storage handled our move and the followup. They somehow lost a large framed picture of ours - AS ATTESTED TO BY ONE OF THEIR OWN MOVERS who told us "it got broken en route" -- company took no responsibility for it and then tried to say perhaps it was left at our son's garage where some of our other items were dropped off!!!!!! In addition, Day 1 of the 2-day move, 2 of the 6 movers were slackers (again, ATTESTED TO by one of their competent movers). Because of their payment policies, we had to pay up front and had no recourse or were given any compensation for the above. Is was their salesman who said we needed 6 movers in the first place--who we got charged for but only had 4 "workers". We were able to argue and get compensated for a portion of the incorrect driving time/distance we paid (again) for up front . We were charged 90 minutes of driving time for a 16 mile commute!!! To begin, a had a friend helping me when the movers came. They paid him cash to write a five-star review. He now regrets doings so after seeing with what I have had to deal with. I wonder how many other five star reviews were paid for. When the movers were first scheduled to come and move me out of the building and into their storage, the issues began. I explained that I only had the elevator for four hours so they needed to come promptly at 8 AM. Donna, the customer service rep assured me that they would be on time. When the movers had not shown by 9 AM, I called. Donna said they would be there at 10 AM and could complete the move in two hours to meet my cutoff. It turned out it took the movers seven hours, not two. I live on the 37th floor and the would sometime take down one piece at a time rather than fill up the elevator. I would find them hanging out on the truck looking at their phone and taking breaks. Their process was terribly inefficient, and as a result costly. After the movers left, I found items in the bedroom that they forgot to take so I had to pay the company to send a truck back to pick up those items. In addition, the movers required me to sign a volume of paperwork when they showed up, before they would move me. They don't send the paperwork in advance, but rather you have no choice when they show up. One item was that they were not liable for any damage that they incur in my unit or the building. Really? I sent a note outlining the issues to the President, Jim Lalogos, as I thought it would be helpful to get feedback. Basically, his only response was than that the additional cost of picking up the left items was my responsibility, and he did not respond to the issues with the move. When I had the items removed from storage and delivered back at the same address, I was charged for the same amount of hours it took for them to pack my home and move me (7 hours) the first time vs the move back in of 3 1/2 hours. When I reached out about getting credit, there was no response. No response either when I told them we were missing a chair. read more

I made the mistake of thinking Angi's was the same as Angi's List. It's not. But that's how I got involved with Advanced Moving and Storage. This outfit had a 4.5 rating on Angi's, and a Seal of Approval from some other company on their masthead, which, it turns out, was a seal of approval from the corporation that actually bought Angi's and turned it into the scam that it is, but I digress. After I entered my need for a mover into Angi, these crooked movers called immediately. That should have been my first tip-off. They took my deposit via credit card. No contract. Word to the wise, ALWAYS get everything in writing. Unscrupulous companies operate without them, and inexperienced, unsuspecting victims don't think about them. The second tipoff that something was wrong was that, just two days before the move, I hadn't heard from them. So I called them. And here was the big tell: I was told to "bring extra money" in case it took longer than expected. And I was told they only take cash. "You only take cash for the additional money?" I was confused. They had no problem taking credit for my deposit. Why not for the whole move? "No." I was assured. I would have to bring cash for the entire cost of the move, and that amount would be determined by the movers themselves. Cash only? Really? I thought that was fishy, so I looked them up here, on Yelp. Oh. My. God! Story after very specific story about how they rip people off! How they hold your stuff in their truck until you run and get them more money. How the police have been called on them. Crap! And they were moving me In. Two. Days! What do to? I quickly started quickly moving my OWN stuff, as much as I could, to a friends house, and then I had to move my stuff again, to deny them the opportunity to stall and slow-walk and do the other things that others had accused them of. You can read the reviews. I tried begging my way out of this awful arrangement I'd made. Sick relative. Anything! I was literally scared to have anything to do with this company. I got stuck paying them $790 because I was trying to get out of this too late. I mean, we had no contract, but--THEY GET YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER when you give your deposit. They just won't let you make your actual payment on it--and THAT friends is a shifty business practice. A friend of mine pointed out that, if the Yelp reviews were anywhere near the truth, what these company did, with the holding of your stuff for cash, is actually against the law. Illegal. Extortion. You'll see the defense that the company gives is that this is "industry standard." It's not, UNLESS, of course, you're in the extortion industry. I went ahead and I cancelled on them. I cancelled the night before the move, and they charged my credit card. I threatened legal action, but I was so tired, and so stressed, and I think they bank on that. So, you might be thinking, they didn't ACTUALLY move you, so why the one star? Because they didn't tell me about their shifty "cash only" policy, when they so willingly took my credit information to begin with. They do that, probably, so that you have absolutely NO protection when they rip you off, as they seem to have ripped off dozens of other people in these other reviews. But they have your credit number if they want to run it through for their own purposes. That's why the one star. I'm not one for bad reviews but this "company" deserves absolutely 0. The amount of items we had missing/broken and not notified about just baffled me. From broken legs on dressers, to a full size 6' x 5' broken mirror, to a misplaced dresser, to a broken stair climber and much much more to the flooring and walls to the house. I would've gave them the time of the day if they were at least honest about the damaged items but of course all was not found until after the fact with stresses of moving your mind is all over the place and I believe the workers took advantage of all that. These people are liars and do not stand by their word or their contract. They picked up my belongings on November 18 and said the truck was leaving on the 29th and expect 4-5 days. December 7 at the latest. Called on December 6 and the truck had not only NOT left Illinois yet where I was moving from but the truck broke down and they are now waiting for a part and don't know when they will have it up and running. I already moving to my new home in California and am sleeping on a thin mattress on the floor. I had a stroke in February and am forgetful so forgot a lot of necessary items I needed and thus had to rebuy them since they will not be here for me to use. I have no idea when my items will come and the person who handles the transports, Donna is SO rude and told me "I can't believe you didn't plan better knowing you were moving cross country." I explained again "I just had a STROKE" started to cry and then asked to talk to her supervisor who was even ruder and offered me $50.00 for my "inconvenience." The movers were swearing and complaining the whole time they were loading the truck about the company and who they worked for. We fed them and tipped them well trying to keep them in a good mood so they wouldn't damage anything. After reading all the other reviews I hope they didn't steal from us or do drugs like some others mentioned. HORRIBLE company! They have no business being in business. After reading the horrendous reviews this company has, we ended up going with a much more competent company. We called Advanced Moving the next day to cancel and the representative confirmed our cancellation. Fast forward to the night before our move we receive an email confirming our move...which we had cancelled. We also realized they never refunded our $100 deposit. When my husband called to inquire why this email was sent the receptionist was EXTREMELY rude to him and asked why we canceled. He told her it was because we found a better company and she goes "oh then you're not getting your deposit back." She also told us there was no record of us calling in and cancelling...which shows how completely incompetent they are. THEN they tried to charge us the full amount for the move!!! Needed a heavy item moved to the second floor of a new house. Had to haggle for a reasonably competitive price. Booked the wrong day (yes, it was MY mistake). Found out on the day in question that I'd gotten the date wrong, and was charged the full price of the job for nothing. It wasn't as if the crew had come out and waited (on the clock), and they weren't on the way, but I'm out $620. Penalizing a customer a couple of hundred dollars, maybe, but this is way out of line in my opinion. I also searched for a LOCAL mover in the North Aurora area, to minimize the trouble/long travel time for them, and their number came up as Carol Stream which is NOT their location. read more

Advanced Moving & Storage practices the old ploy of bait and switch, luring unsuspecting consumers in with lower prices and then once they have all of a customer's possessions tightly locked up on one of their trucks, threaten to hold that property hostage indefinitely unless the customer agrees to pay 25%, 50% or even 100% more than forecast. They don't accept credit cards, which denies consumers that protection, and don't take personal checks taking another avenue away. The entire system is built to lure, deceive, threaten and extort their way to more and more money. In my case, I had no choice but to agree to pay 30% more to transport 30% fewer items. I made a larger move 2 years ago in half the time as it took with Advanced - an incredible 14 hours. When I refused to be extorted for more money, they walked off at management's direction, leaving beds unassembled and heavy, expensive furniture in the garage, in addition to damaged furniture and walls. Management is nowhere to be found to work anything out. Their movers work hard and are stuck in the middle of mismanagement and deceptive business practices. It is hard to imagine a more dishonest moving company. My new home experience and excitement was ruined by Advanced Moving & Storage. They only thing that is advanced about them is the misleading and deceptive advances they make on a person's wallet. read more

Too many issues to go into extensive detail, but I'll just do the highlights...keep in mind my move was out of state. Packing up our home in Chicago was fast, but when we received our items in our new state we realized why...SO many things broken and poorly packed that the unpacking crew was laughing at how bad it was. We were promised our delivery at the end of February, got it the end of March with no communication. I called daily and was basically told "it'll get there when it gets there". the truck broke down twice once it finally left Chicago, and I had to tell the driver 3 times how to find our new address. once it got here, we paid extra to have everything unboxed and the boxes removed...that didn't happen but the positive was at least they reimbursed me for that. if they destroy anything they give you .60 per pound...which means my 3 neon bar signs they totally destroyed but weigh very little we're worth about $5 to them. so in conclusion if you have a pile of unbreakable rocks to move within Chicago cheaply and don't care when they get there these guys might be for you. Quite literally the worst moving company I have ever seen. Read through the other 1 star reviews and you will see a common theme: theft and holding items hostage by changing the amount due prior to unloading the truck. This group of con artists quoted us at $1,600, then prior to unloading the truck said we needed to provide an additional 3 hours of payment because they had to "walk far" (which was about 30 feet) to load the items and this caused an extra 3 hours. They moved so slow that if it were any slower they'd be going backwards. We had the cashier's check for them but they were holding our items hostage in their truck until we got another $600-$700 in cash. And while you try to get the money, they will be sitting there billing you for their break time. We had a few hundred at the time and said "Can we give you an hour's worth to at least start unpacking while we go get the rest of the money?" and they said no. We somehow had to have $700 cash on us or they would take our items back to their warehouse. The owner claims this is industry standard. Anyone who has ever moved with a reputable company before knows that is BULL! Every single person in my family has moved countless times (and one of us has literally moved THIRTY times before) and has NEVER experienced this. THIS IS NOT INDUSTRY STANDARD! Let me be clear: WE WILL BE SUING THIS COMPANY! I cannot believe Yelp forces me to leave even ONE star when this company deserves a negative fifty star review. read more

Advanced Movers were absolutely godawful. Come moving day, they parked in the wrong spot, not even in the parking lot. They also disconnected the call when I was talking to them. They tried to round the time down to increase the move time, which cost me more money. I notice immediately that they were clearly smoking weed heavily before arriving. My brother later noticed it too. They also price-gouged me on a protective TV box. And they were incredibly slow. Later, one guy spent about 20 minutes in the bathroom, at least, which slowed the move down considerably because the other guys said they're waiting for him before they can start up again. The clock was still running. Later, some were chatting among each other casually and getting nothing done. Next, they told me they can't get my couch through the door because of its size and that the hallway lightbulb was in the way. They said they wouldn't remove the bulb, so I had to do it. They tried to move the couch through the door and still couldn't get it. They said they can't get it out of my apartment as they don't have the equipment to hoist it off the balcony, but I'm still being charged anyway. So I'm paying for my couch to not be moved. I'm now scrambling to find someone, anyone, who can and is willing to help me move a couch off a balcony on a Sunday with very little notice. Several hundred dollars on top of the four-plus-hour job that is already charged as time and a half plus the protective TV box that should have been on the house. I have no choice. When the Advanced Movers FINALLY finish packing the truck with most of the rest of my stuff, we notice that nothing seems to be getting done. AGAIN. They tell us the driver from last night left a bunch of used cardboard boxes in the truck, meaning I now have to pay the movers to move stuff that shouldn't be there in the first place. No discount will be factored in to account for this, mind you. By this point, I'm well over time because the movers have moved slower than molasses, and after arriving at my new house, they park alongside the house and tell us they need payment before they can unload. Despite the fact I came prepared with a cashier's check (they don't take credit cards or personal checks) for the exact amount the company asked of me, they said I owed more. My family and I are like, how? The banks are closed, and who keeps $500 or $600 in their wallet? They refused to budge. They were essentially holding my furniture hostage. We demand to speak with the supervisor. They say it's against company policy before eventually giving in. The supervisor refuses to intervene, and we get nowhere. Movers suggest we go to an ATM. Most of us don't even have PINs to access the terminals. My brother's girlfriend sets out to find one in the area as the rest of us search frantically for any cash reserves we happen to have. We were all but throwing money at them to get them to help us. At this point, I've paid them more than most people pay to move a HOUSE. It was basically theft. These godawful movers also damaged both my dining table and my couch in at least two places, along with my dresser. They also took so long and wasted hours of my time, so much so that well into the afternoon, the house was a junkyard of moving boxes, plastic storage crates and bags filled with miscellaneous items. BE WARNED: Do NOT use Advanced Movers under any circumstances. They will absolutely scalp you financially, will probably hold your furniture hostage if you don't meet their demands, they're deliberately slow to rack time against you and are extremely unprofessional. And obviously, they're also not fully equipped for the job they supposedly specialize in, so even if you don't mind being completely taken advantage of, just be prepared to leave some furniture behind. Hope you didn't pay good money for it. We recently needed to hire movers to move items from our home. Considering our preferred company being unavailable, we begin searching for an available company that could accommodate our date. We used Angie's List and Nanette of Advance Moving & Storage called us just minutes after we put in the request. After sharing that we had already spoke to someone regarding the move, Nanette insisted that she would like to offer a quote that could possibly be cheaper than what we had received. She went through the spill of sharing how they were a family-owned business, and all their workers are professionally trained and have all undergone criminal background checks. After speaking with her we decided to hire them for the job. We paid the deposit as requested and then were told after paying the deposit, that the deposit was nonrefundable, in light of such a quick booking, and that we would have to pay the movers the balance due with Cash, Cashier's Check, or Money Order because they couldn't take the balance from the credit card that they used to get the deposit. Nanette also shared that the workers had to be paid upon arriving to the location for which the items were to be removed BEFORE the movers unloaded the truck. She encouraged me to get a cashier's check for a smaller amount than the quoted price and additional cash for the difference, in the event that the job was finished before the time quoted. If the workers were overpaid with a cashiers check/money order for the full amount quoted but finished earlier than quoted we would have to wait two weeks to get the difference back. On Friday, February 4th Advance Moving & Storage workers Sam, Christian, and Henry entered our home and assessed the job at hand. They began to move boxes and storage bins on their backs without a dolly, because in their opinion, "the dolly slows you down." They turned our cleaning supply bins upside down causing all of the liquid cleaning materials to fall out of place. They went into our bedroom to move furniture and other boxes while I hid my personal items under a comforter out of sight. They proceeded to move items and Christian asked if he could use the restroom. I noticed he was in the restroom for some time and when he came out he had to put his sweat shirt back on. I thought this was odd but didn't think too much of it. They continued clearing the items they were instructed to move while Henry asked to use the restroom as well and took some time to come out as well. They finally finished removing the items and we headed to our destination and again according to their policy you had to pay before your items were unloaded and this is where the problem began. The workers requested payment and as I went to get the $800 cash, I noticed the $1100 cash I withdrew that morning was missing (7) $100 bills. The movers had stolen from my purse that was hidden away in my bedroom. Of course, after making Sam aware of the missing money no one knew what happened, while Christian stood there pulling on his clothes like something was stuck or jammed. So, we called the police and Sam called Tyler from Advance Moving. In addition to my wife calling the police I called the company and spoke to Tyler regarding the situation and his reply was "go ahead and call the police and let the police do what they do." When the police arrived, he searched them but to no avail they had sufficient time between taking the money from my purse while at home and now arriving to our destination for unloading. The police also advised they had too much time to stash it away. One of the workers (Christian) a voluntarily advised the officer that he has been accused of stealing from a job site before. Tyler, their office manager, now shared that they will continue to bill us for the hours the police took to write the report and search the gentleman. He showed no concern, compassion, or empathy and found it necessary to tell me they don't even know if I ever had the money in question. I guess, the receipt from the bank was not sufficient enough. Tyler, advised his men to lock our things on the truck until I paid now $940 for their hours worked in addition to the deposit that was paid upon booking this company I want to make sure this is not repeated with anyone else who may consider using this company. I would NOT recommend this company to ANYONE. This company should not be in service! The workers went looking to steal from our home because my personal items where hidden away, I felt violated by the workers, Tyler and the company itself and would never use them again. read more

I'm very surprised to see all the horrible reviews on here when I logged on to review Advanced Moving and Storage. We moved houses this past Monday. My wife set up the move, pricing and schedule. She had no issues at all, even with moving our date back a few days after seeing the weather forecast. Pricing estimate remained the same on the day of the move. On moving day, the truck and team of 3 guys showed up right on time. They guys were courtious and professional. The house was loaded up quickly and efficiently. At the new house, we made payment prior to unloading, which I understand since a customer could refuse payment after the work is done and the movers would have nothing to hold for payment. That said, the work was moving faster than the original estimate and our payment at this time was less than the estimate! Moving in was, again, fast and professional. No damage to items or walls, even with turns and stairs involved. Upon completion, we were again under the estimated time we paid for before move in and the crew was going to refund us a small amount. We gave that to them in the tip for being so good. This is a great company as long as you are moving stone or concrete. They destroyed a 56 year old piece of furniture by chipping and dragging this piece along the floor. The move to storage went fairly smoothly as 2 trucks were required. They arrived on time and did their job. However, the move from storage was an unmitigated disaster as only one truck showed up and had to make three trips. Clearly, this was a logistical error by the company. I did not take out insurance and when I brought the damage to their attention, they offered me $.30 per pound to repair this antique piece of furniture. DON'T USE THEM IF YOU HAVE ANY QUALITY FURNITURE YOU ARE PLANNING TO MOVE OR MAKE SURE YOU TAKE OUT INSURANCE. read more

Hello, I wouldn't give this business ADVANCED MOVING AND STORAGE 1 star please, beware of their deceptive practices, which begins with the person named KARINA. I've never had to do a long distance move in my life time and have lived in Illinois all my life, my son who served this country now a wounded warrior, needed my support and preferred to stay in GA. I sent out for quotes and received my first call from KARINA who I thought to be such a caring nice lady she talked a good game, again I'm not so experienced as a mover and I'm a senior, she told me I needed to move quickly to secure my move and so I felt panic that I better do so. On 04/12/19 KARINA told me my deposit had to be $1,316.21 then the balance would be due at delivery that the total amount would be over $3,000., now the largest items I have to move being a bed frame without mattress, small desk and chair, small ladies dressing table, 2 bar stools, 82 boxes. On about the 3rd day of speaking to family, friends and getting other quotes who's deposits were no more $400, i then called KARMA and ask for a refund, KARINA told me she didn't handle this and I would need to speak to the ACCOUNTANT, who's ONLY IN on TUESDAY & THURSDAY and even though it WAS A TUESDAY, somehow the ACCOUNTANT WAS NOT IN , The ACCOUNTANT according to KARINA was not in ON THURSDAY that I called or the following TUESDAY. I called KARINA and BEGGED for MY OWN MONEY bc I needed to get moved by a more affordable moving company and KARINA hung up on me. I called my bank who returned my $1,316.21 while an investigation of ADVANCED MOVING AND STORAGE being done as to why they still to this DATE 05/07/19 have not returned to the Bank the $1,316.21 as they've not done any service for me. I hired a good company who's deposit was $300 and the movers were excellent their quote never changed it was way under $2,000.00 and was delivered within 3 days, so far I'm going through all boxes found some broken items, still there was honestly with this company and after I've gone through everything I will do my final review on Trans Van Lines and Beatrice who I worked with. I urge anyone contemplating allowing ADVANCED MOVING located in GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Illinois to proceed with CAUTION. This is a lesson learned for me and hopefully you can learn from my mistakes, I didn't do my homework mostly bc I was so worn out from helping my son, He's been through a lot. read more

Absolutely fantastic!!! I moved from the suburbs to the Northside of Chicago where I was on the forth floor with no elevator. I have a lot of things especially huge anxiety about the move. The three movers we fun and friendly and continued to reassure me everything was going to work out. They truly pulled through! You never know what your movers are going to be like and I would HIGHLY recommend these movers to anyone and if I ever move anywhere again they are coming with me! Also, my move went under the time estimated and they gave me my money back that I had put down and did not try to scam me like I have from other companies! read more

I only gave 1 star at I couldn't go lower :| By far the worst experience I've ever had - of dealing with any moving/storage company -- their modus operandi seems to be: 1. Lowball their quote to entice gullible clients (me included) 2. Get all the stuff into their warehouse 3. Extort money by changing the price quote claiming that they're having labor issues, etc. (this is especially true for out-of-state moves) I had a pleasant experience with their booking agent - Maria Rodriguez who was helpful in getting me the quote after which my nightmare began with Advanced Moving and Storage.. Tyler Lalagos their Operations Manager was highly unprofessional and hostile to interact with as they took all my stuff and changed the price quote -- A classic "Bait and switch" policy... Even though I had paid the quoted amount, they eventually decided to deny service and was given an ultimatum to take away my stuff from their warehouse and held my stuff as collateral. (when I'd already moved out of state) Overall a disappointing and painful experience...(Not sure if this is how these ppl operate - but that's no way to treat a customer) I hope Advanced Moving & storage is better than this and get their act together. My ex wife hired Advanced Moving to move my final 11 pieces of small furniture 8 miles to my place, unknown to me until arrival. On arrival, the movers requested $150 cash to unload. I gave them $160. This was not reported to the office, nor did I get a cash receipt. My wife had also paid them a total of $479 ($380 cash). A competitor quote I did afterward was $250. I moved these previously by myself for $30 for a home depot truck. Low rating because the employees swindled me, hone office over charged my wife, and home office never followed up with an investigation after 3 of my calls. I had a terrible experience with Advanced Moving (Wood Dale) on Thursday (6/10). I can see from the other recent negative comments that I am not alone. It is hard for me to believe that their Google average of 4.2 or 4.3 is legitimate. Here are 3 good reasons NOT to hire Advanced Moving. I should have looked into this company more closely before hiring. First, the company requires cash payment when the truck arrives at your new house. They calculate an amount based on estimated time to unload the furniture. They will not unload until they have cash. This should have been a red flag. Making payment before the job is complete takes away any incentive to hustle. There was wasted time both at the beginning of the move and when the truck arrived at my new house. There was more wasted time because the crew insisted on walking all the stuff I wanted in the garage all the way from the street in the front of the house to the back. The garage sits on an alley but for some reason the driver did not want to move the truck around to the back. I paid for all this wasted time. SECOND, THE MISSING 100 DOLLAR BILL After arriving at my new house, the driver abruptly walked off with my money in the middle of our transaction without counting it. I asked him twice to count it as he was walking away, but he did not. When he returned minutes later a 100 dollar bill was missing. I think it is very likely he took the missing 100 dollar bill. While I was on the phone talking to the dispatcher about this, the driver swore at me as he walked by on his way back to the garage. The dispatcher has not called back to explain this situation. After the driver swore at me, he stayed in or near the truck for the rest of the move. He would remove items from the truck, but that was it. By this time, the two helpers were moving slowly (3 man crew, a driver and two helpers), so I began to move things into the house as well. I did a lot of work because I wanted to get the job done and get rid of Advanced Moving. THIRD, THE ROLL TOP DESK I paid cash based on an estimated finish time of 4:15. With my help, we were about done at 3:30 with one more item to move, a heavy roll top desk. The crew then took a half hour break. Finally the two helpers began moving the desk towards the front door. By this time the driver was claiming to be sick in the cab of the truck and would not help with the desk. One of the helpers told me he did not think they could get the desk in the house and up to the 2nd floor office so I called Advanced Moving again. The dispatcher was not available to talk to me, but apparently he called the driver, who suddenly appeared to help with the desk. While I was still on the phone with a customer representative at Advanced Moving, the 3 man crew got the desk in the front door and left it there, then got in their truck and drove away. I asked several times why they were not taking the desk up to the 2nd floor but got no response. The dispatcher continued to be mysteriously unavailable, and has not called me back as promised by the customer representative. And the crew was not careful with wood floors. They also bent the front door strike plate on my old house, but apparently did not notice. They were not well trained. Finally, one of the helpers mentioned that the day before had been a tough one. He said they dropped and did a lot of damage to a grand piano. Do not hire Advanced Moving. read more

Ownership (Jim) and management (Tyler) lack *basic* business integrity - I strongly recommend against trusting them with your move. Hiring Advanced Moving and Storage was an enormously regretful decision. Their "performance" can be best described as a symphony of incompetence artfully balanced with a constellation of sheisty business practices. They should truly be ashamed of the type of business they run. It's a scheme more than a business, in my opinion and experience. From the start, the estimate was unrealistic., which led to the packing day being a complete mess - they only brought a fraction of the necessary materials required to pack, so the next day (moving day) was rushed because they had still 1/2 of packing to accomplish, which forced them to take deep compromises with the quality of the move itself. This was particularly frustrating since we actually ended up doing more of the packing ourselves than we anticipated. Although 1/2 the movers had brains and were courteous and productive (one mover actually apologized for the company throughout the duration of the move - he was clearly embarrassed to be working for and alongside idiots!), it was the other 1/2, including the lead for the move (Jonathan), that were unprofessional, menacing, and one I strongly suspected was either inebriated or otherwise severely cognitively impaired; the dude wasn't qualified to carry *a box*. At least 1/3 of the clearly marked boxes were placed in incorrect and also clearly marked rooms (ex. "Master", "Boy's Room", "Girl II", etc. Fairly simple system, no? Apparently it was too advanced for the "advanced" moving and storage folks. [Edit: I was in the entrance-way directing the movers the *entire* time, and there was no contradicting information being given to the movers between my wife and me]. A substantial number of items were left at the originating residence; it's a good thing we weren't moving very far and still were able to retrieve our items (about 4 full loads transported in a mini-van!) The movers damaged many expensive items because of improper padding and moving practices (I was a mover for three summers during college for a large, very professional moving company so I am familiar with industry standards). In addition, it was absolutely audacious that my wife was pressured on the spot to fill-out a survey about the performance of the movers while large men (Jonathan was the lead mover) were looming over her - that is an ill-conceived protocol and it was a bullying tactic plain and simple that left my wife feeling intimidated. This occurred while I was attending to my children - I think they waited until I was distracted. Shame on you! Bottom line - we did not get what we paid for and they acted in bad faith throughout the entire grievance process, in my opinion. They scammed me too! It was one of the more disorganized moves I could have imagined. It was as if the Three Stooges (including Shemp and Curly Joe) were on a meth bender and tasked with moving my home; I had been under the impression that I had hired professionals, but what I received was a couple competent movers working alongside idiots. Avoid them! Avoid them! Avoid them! If you read this and other similar reviews and still decide to hire them then you are a fool and deserve what you get. Edit: Jim's response to my review is *complete* bullshit, and if I didn't consider the source I may have even been offended. Anyway, I am still considering formalizing my grievances with the proper authorities and/or taking civil action. It would probably be more stress than it's worth. Also, I never threatened to post a negative review (despite Jim's outrageous accusation that I had made efforts to extort them - what a defamatory contrivance!), but rather gave them a fair chance to redress my concerns. Run! This organization cannot even schedule a move professionally. They cannot comprehend that buildings have freight elevators that operate during various windows. They tell you when you are scheduling a move, "Be sure to have extra cash on hand the day of the move." Further they refuse to accept credit card payments which is contrary to policy on their website. I spoke with a "gentleman" who shouted at me and refused to give his name. He told me that I could not pay my credit card and that I must pay by cash or he would cancel my move. Then this firm refused to repay my deposit,which I had to dispute with my credit card company. The reviews for this place speak for themselves. They refuse to accept credit card payments to extort people out of money. Run! read more

Advanced Moving and Storage scammed me. Their "business" tactics are despicable. Before they'd unload my belongings I was forced to pay 50% over the paid, original "binding" contract. When asked why, they said that I added 50% more weight than we agreed to in the original contract. I'll never use advanced Moving and Storage again. read more

Moving is hard enough, why make it harder. They do not like to take credit cards- they did concede eventually, with additional fee, but this should have been a red flag. I asked why, they said because people dispute charge. I now see why. .... BEFORE THEY UNLOAD they call and want another 25% ( in my case in excess of $1,000) in cash or money order. While keeping your belongings hostage. While some of the gentleman were hard working ( others were not ) of our 4 man crew these are Not professional packers or movers. I had a 2 day move- one to pack one to move. They were ill prepared, lacked efficiency and had poor communication. They sat at the wrong address for over an hour, no call, I had to search for them as they slow played the gig. One would even unload one pair of shoes as his "trip" which should have been packed in a box btw. Another example, I had asked where the cord for the remote vacuum was which should have also been boxed, I was told it was plugged in so left it at original home. I have had some really impressive movers in the past and appreciate that it's a tough job- these are not the guys for you. read more
