Horrible company! We arrived just prior to our scheduled pickup time and they were closed. This was during their business hours. We were unable to pickup car after long day of traveling so we ended up reserving through Hertz at airport. We reserved car rental through Expedia. When we called Expedia for refund and let them know the situation, Expedia couldn't reach them also. Don't ever use Advantage Car Rental! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! read more

They have good rates, and are friendly and helpful. The car was new and worked flawlessly. Also, they were one of the few places that let us reserve a car 3 hours before we wanted to pick it up. The location is inconvenient though. It's not at the location where all the other rental places are and where the shuttle bus goes. STAY AWAY FROM ADVANTAGE - they really suck. This company is UNprofessional or by the way they treat you, they must Hate Customers. Don't be deceived by the Hertz sign out front - they are not part of HERTZ because these people are shady, Hertz wouldn't want to be associated with this place. The first time I walked in here the girl and guy working in the evening shift 12/15/12 were cursing and talking about their drama in their personal lives. They just sent us out the door to find the car. Basically you are treated like you are at a self service car lot. Upon returning the car we got the same type of horrible "service" from the lazy employees who also gave us the wrong receipt. So we left with the drivers license details and other personal information of another customer. How convenient to not know what we would be "billed". To make it worse, the company has not returned our deposit after 4 days. We were told by the lady during the time of the rental that a hold would be placed, not a full blown charge and deduction from our account. Now we're getting the run around about why we don't have our money back. Carlo told me there was a "glitch" and that is why but assured me that he had returned the funds to my account and that it should be there by Midnight. Well, that wasn't true. They are not proactive enough or have any ounce of care for the customer to even call and let us know what is going on. I should be getting paid for doing their job. They are committing fraud somewhere since their billing practices are not up to standards. I recommend you NEVER EVER rent a car from this place. I wish I would have read the low star reviews FIRST and will never use them again and will tell everyone that I know that needs to rent a car to AVOID this company. The staff looked depressed. The cars were, to be fair, cheap and we had no mechanical problems with the vehicles. AVOID!!! DO NOT RENT FROM HERE!!!!!!!!!! This place is terrible on every level. First things first. They are not allowed on the OAKLAND AIRPORT property. Probably for a reason. The employes are highly unprofessional and RUDE! Not to mention S L O W. First off, they are located far away from the normal OAK airport car rental places. You have to take TWO Shuttles to get to their off airport location. Once the normal airport rental car shuttle bus takes you to the location of all the other rental car companies you have to take another shuttle to 5 miles opposite to get to their "office", which is a trailer in an non-descript industrial area. Type the address into Google maps. I had booked a reservation on Travelocity for a good rate. Only $5 less than the other competition and WOW did I regret this! Once there they only had one car available on the lot. It was a full sized car. I booked an economy car for better gas mileage, I had a lot of driving to do. I asked if they could compensate me gas since they didn't have the car I booked, which Enterprise always will do. The manager named Van said NO. Very rudely, we are giving you a free upgrade. I said, I didn't want the upgrade. She was sitting down at a table eating her lunch. She preceded to tell me that she was on her "break" and she didn't have to talk to me! HA! WHAT!? Tired from travel I let it go. Then they preceded to up sell me the pre-paid gas package. They said if I brought it back with half a tank of gas I would only be charged for half. This was not true! When I returned the car with a 1/2 tank of gas, the guy checking in the car said yes I was compensated for the 1/2 tank = $30. However, they charged me for the full tank. I was in a hurry to catch my flight and knowing that I had to take a shuttle to the normal rental car drop to take yet another shuttle to the terminal. Grrrrr. On top of all of this Advantage added their own taxes and fees on top of what travelocity quoted me. Which has never happened anywhere before! This place is a total scam and a horrible experience!!!! I've rented a car from LAX. The rental place is not closest to the airport, but it is not big problem . The wait line was long, but under half hour. The car was with minor damages and NOBODY came to check on it. I literally had to do it and made photos of all of them. Good part - they really didn't check car on return. On the way back driver didn't help people to load their baggage. He even didn't try to do it and there was a women with heavy one. I had to help her. Another issue, by accident, I hit one toll. I tried to pay over Internet and was told that I cannot do it because of agreement with Advantage. Well, I called Advantage and was told that they will pay for the toll and charge me the convenience fee in addition to toll charges. They told it is something like $3. To my surprise the card was charged $32.76 (the toll was ~$7.00). I'll think twice before renting from them again. read more

What a disaster. You have to take a bus from the real Oakland Airport rental facility to their facility. I waited 45 minutes for the bus. The driver said he had to pick-up more cars because they are almost out of cars. The customer "service" is very poor. The facility is a dump. They tried to do a dent and scratch inspection in the dark. In the daylight the car was full of dents and scratches. I am very concerned they will try to charge me for those. Upon returning the car, with a full tank of gas (less than 1-mile driven after fill-up) they still charged me for gas. They charged $32.25 for gas that I just purchased at a cost of $16.83. That is the most expensive 124 miles of gas I have ever purchased. I believe that this is a scam. They are also understaffed and those working there are pot-head idiots. Two employees handling incoming and outgoing rentals at 6:00 PM near an airport is just rude. FU I almost missed my flight because of these incompetent idiots. This isn't the first time I have had trouble with Advantage. This is the last time I ever rent from Advantage and Hertz, the parent company. WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!! Don't be like us. Do NOT average the high scores and low scores on YELP! The lowest possible Yelp score is still way too high for this half-baked establishment, and you are better off sticking with a reputable car rental company. 1. We have rented vehicles from many companies and thus we were surprised when employee Tia told us about a "win-win" arrangement. She said that by choosing the prepaid gas option it didn't matter how much was in the tank when we returned, that they would pro-rate and refund us the difference. My boyfriend and I both heard this offer, questioned it, and were assured of its accuracy. However, upon returning the car, the staff on duty told us this was not the case. Tia either lied or was poorly trained or both. Moreover, the manager on duty refused to do anything to rectify the situation. Equally worthless and ignorant of the concept of customer service was manager Guillermo, whom I was told to call the next day. 2. At least at the Oakland airport there are 2 shuttles required to get to the car lot. First you have to catch a shuttle from the airport to the main car rental depot, and then catch ANOTHER shuttle to the Advantage lot. Of course, once at the main car rental depot you must first use an outside phone to call the Advantage shuttle, but the phone doesn't work properly, so we had to find the local number and then call on our cell phone. If you are trying to get anywhere on time, or are running late, then this is unacceptable. The whole arrangement is a joke, since the cars are not that much cheaper than Dollar, Avis, etc. 3. They will not let you pay up front (meaning a deposit to cover the cost plus the deposit) with a debit card unless they run a credit check! REALLY???? Not that our credit is bad, but that's not the point. Are they going to explain to Experian, TransUnion and EquiFax that we weren't buying the friggin' car? Will they tell the next car dealer where we DO try to buy a car why our credit score took another ding? 4. The car was a fairly new Chevrolet Cruze but it had a broken door over the gas filler cap, and an annoying "Oil Change" alert message that kept popping up on the display, necessitating a constant re-setting of the display. We picked this provider simply because it was suggested by the website of the airline we used, but this was the first and last time. Again, consider yourself warned. The old saying "you get what you pay for" could apply here, but since we didn't even get our money's worth, a better saying would be Advantage Car Rental SUCKS!!! read more

After we had to wait for a shuttle to take us to the rental car terminal, we discovered that we would have to wait for a second shuttle to take us to Advantage! We waited for about 10/15 mn, only to be told by the driver of the shuttle that Advantage DID NOT have any cars available, which means that we had to find another rental car company. By that time another shuttle had arrived from the airport, so we had to wait until all these new people were served. Well hello hello, jerks at Advantage! I am back! I see that my original review has been deleted. Well no problem, please allow me to just post this again. My friends: avoid this crappy operation like the plague. At the Oakland Airport location, they are not even at the main rental car location. So not only do you have to take the shuttle from the airport to the main rental car area, then you have to haul your bags onto yet ANOTHER shuttle to take you to the Advantage location, which is quite a bit away. Who has time for all that, particularly if you are on a business trip?? It's a hassle and totally not worth it. Perhaps more important, the cars here simply SUCK. My car smelled awful, which I can only describe as perhaps a combination of rank ass and cigs. And on the first morning I had the car, all of the climate control went out on the vehicle. And this was in early February, and I was staying in the Pleasanton area, where it gets COLD. Did Advantage offer to come and correct the problem by delivering a new car? No, no... they told me I had to drive all the way back to the Oakland Airport to exchange the car, and this was not even my fault. And no discount provided either to compensate me for this fiasco. What a crappy operation. You would have to be a fool to use this company. I cannot even believe that Southwest Airlines lists them as a rental car provider on their website. I think I am going to write Southwest Airlines now and urge them to rethink associating with this outfit. read more

After having a nightmare of a day, I was pretty confident that the rental process I was about to begin was going to be a disaster, too. First of all, I was over four hours late getting to Advantage. Once there, I then realized I left my debit card at home so had to leave to go get. Upon arriving home, I discovered my bank account had been compromised due to fraudulent activity so my funds had dwindled immensely. At this point, I was ready to give up on renting a car but spending a few (much needed) vacation days away was too important not to try. Six hours after my appointment time, I return back to Advantage broke and desperate. Expecting the worst, I was more than appreciative of the employees, especially Baba, for being so understanding of my situation. Baba patiently waited while I spoke with the bank about the recent fraudulent activity and my lack of funds. He then figured out a way to charge my card for the deposit and one day of the rental. He would then charge my card daily for the remainder of my week long rental. Doing this would spread the fees out over 7 days giving me a chance to leave with a car and the bank some time to reimburse the fraudulent deductions! Baba then upgraded my sedan to an SUV for just a few more dollars a day. I was stoked! I left Advantage smiling and humbled by Baba's kind, patient, and professional attitude. I have rented from many different rental car company's (especially within the SF Bay Area) and have never had such a positive experience. Baba is a good man and a pleasure to work with. We had to take two shuttles to get to the Advantage car rental. It is not located with the other car rental agencies. We used up about 30 minutes between waiting for the two shuttles, and also riding around. Upon arriving, we found out that they just opened in the past 30 days. We waited at least another 20-25 minutes before it was our turn. It was apparent that one of the guys working behind the counter was brand new on the job, so he kept interrupting his co-worker for questions. So that slowed the line even more. Thank goodness we didn't get him. It looked like the company was also having trouble running debit cards - which we we witnessed with two customers ahead of us. One of those customers decided to walk out after the debit card hassle. We used a regular credit card, so there were no issues. The worker who helped us was efficient, but I learned my lesson. Next time, I'm trying another company. It wasn't worth it to save the extra dollars because of the extra hassle in time spent while waiting. If you're on a tight budget, you can go here - just be prepared to use up some extra time. read more

LEFT ME STRANDED AT OAKLAND BEFORE MIDNIGHT. DID NOT EVEN WANT TO ANSWER THE PHONE DURING THEIR NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS AFTER SPEAKING TO THEM TWICE IN THE TWO HOURS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL. Travelling to the Oakland area from the East Coast, I made a reservation on line for Advantage rent a car. Upon arriving at the airport in San Francisco, I contacted Advantage on the telphone twice to let them know that I was in route to their location and would be there soon (and that I was en-route from SFO, not Oakland). They said the shuttle would be waititn for me both times. Once I arrived at the Oakland Airport, I took the Shuttle as instructed to the car rental place. They do not have any space in the car rental area of the Oakland airport so you have to take a shuttle from the Oakland airport to the car rental area and then another shuttle from the car rental area to Advantage's location. Upon arriving to the car rental location, the shuttle was not there waiting for me as I had been told. Moreover, when I called, they said that they closed at 11:00 sharp (this was at around 10:35 p.m.). Upon arriving at the car rental place at about 10:45, I called again only this time, they did not pick up the telephone. I contacted the 800 number and was able to speak to someone who told me that they were also unable to reach the local branch and could not help me. They suggested I took a cab (I was going to San Ramon some 30 miles away). I asked for a supervisor and no supervisor was made available. I was told one would call me the following day (never happened). Long story short, after I made the reservation, received a confirmation email, secured it with my American Express and arrived prior to their normal closing time, they left me stranded at the Oakland International Airport. read more

This was THE WORST car rental experience I have ever had in my life. That includes the time I found a loaded 22 calibur gun under my seat in an Enterprise car rental in Florida. First of all, this is an OFF OFF OFF lot car rental. We took the shuttle bus from Oakland Airport to the car rental location only to find out that we had to wait for yet another shuttle to get to Advantage. We had to wait another 40 minutes for that shuttle to show up after calling them twice (as well as other customers calling and waiting too) Arrive at the location (finally!) and they take us to a Chevy Malibu which was DIRTY! Bugs all over the front of the car, dirt all over and dirty inside. I pointed it out and the woman didn't care. Didn't offer us another car or to have the car washed. (and she was fully aware that we waited 40 minutes plus just to get there) Upon returning the car I expressed our disappointment and they simply did not care at all. Do yourself a favor, pay 20 bucks more for a Hertz or Thrifty. This place isn't worth it. read more

WARNING- THE "MANAGER" GUILLERMO IS A JOKE! I went in on Thursday morning of June 28 and booked a full-sized car until the morning of July 3. I came in before work and the lady that helped me gave me a better rate than I had through Travelocity and gave me a weekly rental of $138 taxes included. I was taking this car on a small road trip down to So Cal for a few days and the lady had given me a terrific rate. I only work 2 miles away from this facility and the plan was to pick the car up before work, park it and drive the car home and leave for my trip. After I drove out of the driveway, I noticed there were some lights appearing near the gauges and the red brake light kept flashing near the odometer. I don't have a Nissan so I figured the car had maintenance done and needed to be driven a few miles for the gauge lights to stop. I got to work and realized the guy missed a few scratches on the car. I called the manager at the time, Heather and made note of the reported scratches. I then found more and called a 2nd time; she assured me that if the scratch wasn't bigger than an inch, I'm fine. 5 hours go by and I'm almost off of work, my co-worker notifies me that the rental I drove to work has a flat on the driver side. I was shocked. I call their roadside customer service and he tells me they will charge me $60 to tow the rental back to the facility; since I only work 2 miles away, I decide to put the spare on and drive it back myself. *Note- after I pulled the hub cap off, the wheel had a major dent, meaning the person who rented the car before must have hit a curb at a very high speed, causing the flat tire. I brought the car back, explained the problem to the worker and he tells his manager, GUILLERMO about the problem. They made me fill out an incident report in which I explain in detail the situation with the flat tire. "drove the car off the lot, noticed lights on the dash and only drove the car 2 mi and a slow leak caused the flat from the previous driver." The manager GUILLERMO told me that I had to pay for the tire and that it was somehow my fault because I was supposed to go over the scratches and car problems with the guy at the checkout booth and should have reported the flat tire. HELLO! How do you notice a slow tire leak?!?!?! The odometer literally had only 4 miles on it when you look at my miles in and miles out, 2 miles to work and 2 miles back to the rental place. I couldn't believe that this "manager" GUILLERMO wouldn't even work with me. I was tired of being there at this point and still needed a new car for my trip. I asked him what the total would be and he said $151. I figured at this point $138 turned into $151 and this manager wouldn't even deliver any type of customer service so I said fine. He ran my card and told me to "GO." I then looked at him with a confused face saying "What do you mean go, I still need a car?!?!?" He looked at me stunned and then finally actually looked @ my reservation and realized that I had just rented the vehicle from them a few hours prior and had it booked until Tuesday. He told me that he closed out my original reservation and that he couldn't do anything about it. I told him that he needed to return the transaction and he tried to confuse me my telling me that a $200 credit will be issued to my card in a few days (the $200 credit being the deposit). I was outraged at this point and just wanted to leave. Even the workers were shaking their heads at disbelief that their so-called "manager" GUILLERMO made me pay for the flat tire and closed my account. He booked me a new reservation when it was his fault in the first place and closed out my original and somehow tacked on an extra tax fee making my new total $151. After looking at the charges that he closed out without me telling him to do so, he charged me: $68 for the few hours I had the first rental until I returned the car with the flat and $74 for the tire on the original reservation + some random taxes and fees making it $151. He made me a new reservation for the 2nd car, at his mistake and charged me an additional $159 making my original charge of $138 with taxes and fees included to $310. If I knew this would be such a hassle, I would've spent the extra $$ for another rental company or would've driven my own car. When calling customer service, you will be on hold for a minimum of 20-30 min and then you will get the "only 2 weeks ago they took away our ability to assist you so here's a $25 gift certificate for a future rental" b.s. Heather, the first manager I dealt with was great and tried to help me out when I returned the vehicle but was not able to credit me back the tire. She said I had to take it up with claims and claims instructed me that the rental car facility have to do any adjustments. Corporate has not contacted me, forcing me to dispute the charges with my credit card company. This problem has not been resolved! read more

DO NOT RENT FROM HERE! I was quasi happy with this place at first. The girl who helped me with the car gave me an excellent price to upgrade. Don't expect too much from this place and you won't get disappointed. If my car vents didn't stop working and if I didn't have to deal with their customer service center, emergency road service and the car rental office then I would have probably walked away OK. I rented a 2013 Explorer and the vents went out for about 2 hours driving to Santa Barbara. It was complete chaos in the car driving with children, hot and windy. If you call the 800 number you'll get people who say "like" and "um" after every other word and will eventually end up saying "There's nothing I can do for you" They reverted me back to the rental office and said the Manager would call me back first thing in the am but he never did. I explained to them that if my vents do not work and it rains tomorrow then I would have to drive home with the windows down for 5 hours. So I guess that is what ticked me off the most. The lack of concern, attention and customer service I received. It's worth paying a little more to get better customer service. I wish I read their Yelp reviews before renting. Hope your experience is better than mine, if not, expect the worse and you'll be OK. AND if any Advantage managers/execs are reading this.. you should really try to reach out and talk to the unsatisfied customers and DO something about this location. read more

RENT AT RISK!!!! not even deserving of a 1 Star I rented from this place several time due to the super cheap rate thinking I was getting an awesome deal and I was, at least I thoughtl! But they were going to get there money out of me one way or another I see. The guy out front doing the car inspection super nice guy but he never checked the windhsield for a chip, scratch or anything. Well mind you it was 9pm and REALLY dark. I go to return this vehicle from a long weekend, tired after work and all. It was 5pm still day light, and now all of a sudden these guys from no where trying to have me sign a paper saying I owe them a windshield, CRAZY as it sounds, I was like like my car? that I rented? I had to see for myself honestly, the chip was located in the black frame of the windshield not visable from the inside or late night dark for that matter. They claim it was from me... but yet the windshield was never inspected when I left in the dark. I am a honest person, and maybe it was my bad not checking the windshield when I left. Of course if I am responsible for it, then God knows I am honest and I take care of whatever I need too to make it right. I will never rent from this place again. Rude service, unprofessional, talking about personal crap no one cares to hear, cars smell like smoke, the interior and car was filthy. This place should be called DISADVANTAGE clearly. If you are ever in the market for a rental car, never, never, NEVER rent from Advantage Rent-A-Car!! They lied, overcharged us by $160, and then refused to take the extra charges off. We told them we did not want the daily insurance, but they put it on the bill anyway. They did not give us a summary of the charges until after we had signed where they said to sign. When we discovered the insurance charge (a few minutes after leaving), the person on the phone said they would immediately take it off. However, when we returned the car, the insurance charge was still there and they refused to take it off. Their billing department, customer service department, and local management was extremely defensive and argumentative. It sounds like they are used to defrauding customers. Do not use this car rental business. We left there both after having picked up and then having dropped off our rental car not only feeling that we had had undue time wasted, but also that the office policy involved more than a little flim-flammery. We arrived on July 3rd to pick up our car and were delayed while the harried and rude staff dealt with two customers who were disputing accusations of having put new scratches and dents on their cars. Both customers were very convincing to me. I didn't have this problem as I was suckered into paying for their overpriced insurance instead of taking the time to add car rental to my policy. I made the mistake of agreeing to their gas tank refill agreement, wherein one agrees to lock in a per-gallon rate for the gas required to top of the gas tank upon returning the vehicle. The saleslady expressly told us that we would only have to pay for the gas needed to fill the tank. This information was wrong: we returned the car about 95% full, having put gas in the tank about 10 miles from the shop. The charge for this, had I not protested and endured being called a "liar" by the woman at the desk, would have been for a half-tank. The atmosphere in the office was redolent of the Jerry Springer show. I imagine that they would find it easy to squeeze extra money from travelers who are trying to make it on time to catch a flight, knowing that there are two shuttles between them and the airport, and are willing to float the extra charges just to get out of the dirty trailer that is their office. The inconvenience and discomfort of having to take one shuttle and then roast in the heat while waiting for the second shuttle - which arrived 30 minutes later - would be reason enough to avoid this business. Advantage used to be my go to for cheap car rentals. Not anymore will never go again. Booked an SUV for a weekend since we were going to the mountains. Made a reservation 3 weeks in advance. Show up and Guillermo who is the manager told us he was all out of SUVs and only had a crappy economy car to give us if we wait an hour. I told him this in unacceptable and he told me that I had no right to speak to him that way. I walked out and found a better deal at dollar rent a car. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I have rented from Advantage in Burbank with no complaints, but the 2 shuttle thing at OAK was a deal breaker for me. It adds at least 20 min. Luckily, I was able to get a car from Budget at the last minute for $7 less. read more

I probably should have read the reviews before renting because this company is OUTRAGEOUS! After all was said and done I felt like I had been slapped in the face, robbed and left cold and abandoned in a corner. The short version is, this ghetto place and its SUPER GHETTO employees rented me a car that had a slow leak in the tire. The tire was continuoulsy going flat despite the fact that the roadside assistance operatore (who left me waiting for 48 minutes) sent me 45 miles out of the wayto replace the tire, I drove back to my hotel and when I exited in the morning the brand new tire was flat!!!! I was forced to call roadside assistance once more (this time only 41 minutes on hold) only to be told that I needed to go to the nearest location to change the tire. The manager of that location offered me a "free tank of gas" since the messed up tire caused the MPG to be WAYYYY off (I spent double the amount that I should have in gas) not to mention that my entire vacation was spent maintaing this car! Naturally I called the manager of the Oakland location for some resolution and I got Heather who couldn't have cared less if my hair was on fire....she then transferred me to the "area manager Carlos" and this is where it got interesting. This guy is the most unprofessional, rude, arrogant "manager" that I have ever encountered..thanks to him me, and anyone that I know WILL NEVER rent from this company again-GOOD JOB GUY! Anyways, I returned the tank on 1/8 as the Manager from the Las Vegas location instruced me only to have one of the "cashiers...workers....uh highschool dropouts" charge me 9.99 a gallon because it wasn't full.....$157.00 in gas later. At least when you rent from Enterprise you know the total ammount in the beginning. Super ghetto. read more

Gutless car. VW Jetta 20k miles. Clean but needed a tune up. I guess one tends to get what one pays for. I miss being able to use the full service companies. This place takes quite a bit of time and effort to get to. 2 shuttles each way, just be aware so you can plan accordingly. read more

Consider yourself WARNED this place has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I reserved a minivan, for 3 weekends in a row. The first weekend the van was there and ready to go. When I returned it, I forgot my fast track chip on the dash, and when I called them they were very rude in telling me they didn't have it, and could not be bothered to check. When I showed up the second weekend, the van was not available and the manager Guillermo Ramirez told me that there was nothing he could do. After arguing with him for a few minutes, he called the San Francisco location and got a van from them. I had to wait there two and a half hours. Guillermo gave me his business card and told me to call him for the final weekend reservation to make sure the van was ready. As I was told, I called they day before the reservation, asked for Guillermo and he assured me that he had the van available. When I showed up the next day, you guessed it, no van. Guillermo told me immediately that he already contacted their San Jose, and San Francisco locations, and there were no vans available. When I asked what he could do for me he said that there is nothing he can do. When I asked to speak to his superior, he told me that he doesn't have any and that I had to understand that there is no van and that I have to leave. This is the point where I lost my patience with this guy, and started raising my voice and informed him that I am not leaving until he gets me the van, he then called the San Francisco location, right in front of me and was told that they do have vans available, after he got done telling me that he already called and they didn't. Do not rent from here! I picked up my rental and the car had tire pressure maintenance lights on but the manager insisted that it was working fine. The service person put air on tires but the light remained on. I requested for another car and when I drove it out of the lot I noticed that it was not cleaned in and out. Since I picked up the car late in the p.m. I decided to just drive it and I cleaned the side mirrors myself. The following day i drove it out of town and the brakes stopped working. Luckily I was not driving at a fast/high speed. I called road service and they could not agree with AAA on negotiated fees so I, the customer, was stuck in between their disagreements. Instead of this car rental company asking where I needed to go and resolving the issue they did not put the customer as a priority instead they were concerned about the costs of the tow truck fees, etc. I waited three hours in an isolated and unsafe area. I have yet to file a complaint with their corporate. I still have to get reimbursed for cab charges over $280 to get me back safely home after three hours of really poor customer service!!!! read more

BEWARE!!! Terrible Customer Service and employee attitude at Fort Lauderdale Airport late night return. Intentionally charged for fuel in spite of having a receipt from pick-up location indicating tank was half empty. The employee crumpled up the check out form that indicated the car was received with a half tank and threw it in his trash can. Now they have a credit card dispute...shame on you for such POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! BEWARE of Renting HERE!!!! read more

As other reviewers have mentioned, it's not easy to get here from the airport. You must get on a shuttle that does not have any mention of Advantage (I asked the driver) while all other companies appear to be listed. Once you get to the car rental plaza, you have to take the Advantage Shuttle to the trailer where you rent the car. The trailer is not nice, the area is dirty. The men who work there (seemingly management) are smug. The young asian girl who helped me was extremely nice. The price is okay, but if you are in a hurry, go somewhere closer. My paperwork seemed to take forever. My car (an Altima) was fine, although basically scratched up everywhere. Just make sure that's on your rental agreement before driving off the lot so they can't blame you later. Maybe even take pictures. read more

I understand that some people might be frustrated because of the shuttle difficulty, but for my personal experience, I was extremely pleased with the San Leandro office. For the pick and drop off, I was helped by two different person (respectively Baba and Rose), and they were both courteous, friendly, and customer focused. They answered all my questions, and helped finding the best options. I will definitely go there again. read more

I have to 5-star this place because it totally deserves it. Wonderful customer service, cars in relatively new condition (less than 15k miles), massive massive discounted price. There is seriously no downside to this place. $15/day (all taxes included!) for an Aveo? Sign me up! Their car took me through flash floods in the desert without hydroplaning, went up to 10000 feet and back through the Tioga Pass, handled the curves on CA-1 (sort of... it's an Aveo, come on), and one car wash later was welcomed back with open arms! It is not often that you experience the sort of customer service that was encountered at this Advantage rental car location. From the moment we walked in, until the moment we left, we were treated with charming hospitality. This was all made possible by Terry. It was obvious that he wanted to make sure that we had the best possible experience and would be taken care of through and through. Because of his actions and care, we will be using advantage as our primary car rental service from here on out. Thank you Terry for making our day. WARNING!!!!!! THIS AGENCY IS FAR AWAY FROM THE AIRPORT AND YOU MUST RIDE TWO SHUTTLES TO GET TO YOUR RENTAL CAR!!!!! I wish they had told us upfront that we would have to take two shuttles to get to our car. I would have used a different company. It took is over 45 minutes from the time we arrived at the airport to be driving away in our car. First you ride one shuttle to all the other rental cars and then an Advantage shuttle picks you up and drives you like 2 miles back past the airport to their lot. It was RIDICULOUS!!!! All because they don't want to pay $40k a year to get a permit for the airport. We were in a huge hurry and it was awful to have it take so long, almost an hour so that we could get on the road during the worst Friday rush hour. Would have gladly paid the additional $12 to have a car with a real rental co at the airport. I'm angry bc they did not disclose this to me at the time of booking. Car and service weren't bad, just disorganized and not upfront about their location. read more
