We hired AE about a year ago but I wanted to wait a while before writing this review. To get to a steady state so the review could be more objective. In short, we were impressed by the quality of the service and, because we shopped around a bit, found the prices to be reasonable. AE remodeled our old, tired bathroom. Originally, we did not understand that we would be responsible for selecting the materials. But after that sunk in, we did our diligence with the helpful assistance of AE. Jenny was very informative and responsive. She answered our questions, both those that related directly to the bathroom but also those relating more generally to remodeling strategies that arose from our inexperience. What do you think of this material? What do you think about this type of sink in this space? What kind of shower design is best for this concern of mine. Etc. I can't recall an instance where Jenny did not immediately and helpfully respond to email or text. Jenny also proactively made good suggestions. The remodel went well. We really liked the result. We were delayed a bit by the city and permits. But Jenny and her team were always patient and committed. In one instance, the city inspector came back with some surprising feedback. But Jenny and her team with due dedication and versatility adeptly executed on the feedback and made the inspector happy. Anyway, it's been about a year after the remodel. A few small issues came up recently. I contacted Jenny and she sent her team to handle without hesitation. The follow through was very impressive. Was excited to work with these folks. Very nice and up front costing. However the fine details of the finished product was missing. Small dents here and there. They Scratched hardware that we purchased and we had to purchase another set. We spent a week waiting for new shower cartridges because they didn't know what type we should get. I wish our project came with an actual project manager who would tell us what we needed to do and by when. We felt like we had to plan and purchase so many things on our own They stuck this sticky plastic all over our carpet to prevent stains but when it was removed left adhesive residue everywhere and now my carpet is ruined. When I asked how to fix they ignored me. I regret starting this project with them. After this post there is a response from the "business owner" stating they are sorry and then a lengthy set of excuses which equates to a false apology. Bottom line is 1) you scratched up the hardware we gave you 2) we bought all the HW ourselves and asked if we bought the right cartridge. You all said yes. Give the right answer else we waste time. 3) we rejected your attempt to fix the carpet issue because your team had already used a wipe on the carpet and it didn't work. And then you offered to dump vinegar all over to clean it. Of course I'm going to reject that. What other excuses would you like to provide? And tbh you should be concerned whether your customer feels disrespected not your own feelings on the manner which is of opinion. And by the way your contract that we all signed includes a 1 yr warranty. I hope to not use that but your response seems to imply you are going to abandon communications with us which is a legal breach in your own contract. read more

This is purely a review about requesting a quote process. I would have loved to consider AE Kitchen and Bath if I was able to go through the estimate process and perhaps have them even do my remodeling. I contacted them, in addition to the other contracting companies that Yelp had recommended. While I got others to acknowledge, schedule some time to review the project at my house and then give me a detailed quote, I never got started with AE because the first thing they asked me was for detailed drawings and project plans. Without that they would not engage further. I don't know about you, but for a fairly straightforward remodeling of our baths, I was expecting a well established contracting company to come and take a look, give me some guidance on the project and then provide an estimate - like what I got from others. Shutting me down right away and expecting me to have architectural/engineering drawings was unexpected and surprising. They may be great contractors, but either Yelp or them are misleading us by showing up as recommended contractors when others complied with the typical process (of providing an estimate), WITHOUT needing to have detailed drawings beforehand. read more

We recently closed on a home in March and were looking to get our kitchen and 2.5 baths remodeled before moving in. This was our first time hiring out a contractor to take on this kind of job. Stephen was available on a Friday afternoon to answer questions and followed up promptly over the weekend with a rough estimate for us to work with. After meeting with a few other remodeling companies and taking time to decide, we went with AE for their price point, ability to start and complete the project within our timeline and attentiveness from both Stephen and Jenny. I appreciate Jenny's can-do attitude, her attention to detail and care for us from the start of the project to the end. AE's crew works quick and we are generally happy with the quality of construction but as other reviews have mentioned, you should also do your part in looking over fit and finishing and double checking build quality throughout the process. I noticed a small water leak in our master bathroom while the crew was rebuilding the sink and Jenny had sent her crew during off hours to double check at 10pm even though I had assured her I had cleaned and contained the leak. AE was able to complete the project within 10 weeks, working around two other vendors we went with for flooring and painting. The quote we got from AE for flooring and painting was on the higher side so we decided to contract these out to help keep within budget. In all, thank you to Jenny, her team and the trust they have built with us throughout this project. Really bad experience from beginning to end. The first person we talked to gave a very generic quote that we were not comfortable with. We had to consistently check in and figure out the details. We started the project and they damaged our floor while they were doing work. They suggested the wrong materials to buy. They left tools outside our home in a disorderly fashion. At the heart of it they also damaged the new materials we bought while the installed. Finally there are shoddy workmanship all over the place. Chipped tiles. Chipped faucets. Uneven floor tiles. Jenny provides great guidance and delivers amazing work. We are VERY particular about the details and they exceeded our expectations. They don't rush and make sure that you are happy. After researching on Yelp, reading Yelp reviews and looking though their website I decided to give them a call to get a quote on our kitchen remodeling project. Stephen answered the phone right away and gave me the info necessary get a quote. The quote seemed reasonable and since I was highly motivated I decided to go with them without calling around. The project was a success from start to finish. I appreciated the customer service and communication from start to finish. Jenny, the protect manager, is excellent at what she does. She also provided honest recommendations and advice when asked. What I also liked is they are a family business and everything was done within their company without dealing with subcontractors. Since I was pleased what how everything went with the kitchen remodel, I used their service for a complete bathroom remodel a few months later. AE has a unique model for doing house renovations. Since they work with their own vendors, their timeline for finishing a project is much faster than other contractors. Stephen, who is the first person you interact with at their store, is great and very friendly to begin the interaction. One thing we liked about them is that they give you their quote up front. The other renovation companies we talked to came to the house, gave a sell speech and only an estimate of the work. AE's quote was actually on the expensive side considering the other companies include design consultation along with the permits. The major pro however is the time taken for the project. Since they work with their own vendors, they get their materials quickly and can move pretty fast without permits. This also means fewer choices and the customization options are limited. This shouldn't be a concern since they have a reasonably good number of options. If you are someone who has a hard time visualizing how the different items will come together without a 3D mockup, you might want to take that into account. We also got quotes from Made renovation and Made was about 20% cheaper, but we went with AE since we wanted to renovate our kitchen along with a few other general house stuff. They did perform some works in the house as complimentary which probably makes up for the price gap. Jenny, who is the project manager, was very accommodating with our requests and understood any concerns or setbacks. Our appliances kept getting delayed and Jenny's team were able to wait for us and schedule accordingly. We started planning the renovation before we had moved into the house. We didn't realize some of the quirks before-hand like the placement of switches. I brought it up to Jenny if they could accommodate it and she was able to get it done. Jenny can remember many things, but this would give me anxiety because I wasn't sure if all my requests would be recorded. So I had to balance not being obnoxious vs making sure our requests were considered. There probably could be a better project management system so that everyone knows what's done and what's left to be done. Jenny made good suggestions like changing the door casing to match everywhere and not look odd for only the doors that were changed. They move fast, so I would recommend being ready with all the finish products in hand. They also clean up pretty well. While they do good work about 95% of the time, there was a little lack of attention to detail in the final finishes. I think another recent review also mentions the same. You have to be on top of things if you notice things that are off. This wasn't a big deal for me, since I was able to fix them up myself after some learning through Youtube videos. One issue we discovered after the work was complete was that the electrical circuits for the kitchen outlets and lights had been crossed (this was a violation of an electrical code). We initially didn't know if this issue existed before AE had done the work. An electrician quoted us $1000 and above depending on the amount of time they would have to spend to tracing the wires. Instead I went around the house tracing connections with a circuit breaker finder tool and found the issue behind a kitchen outlet. It seemed like an honest mistake, although I had to spend 10 hours debugging the connections. I would probably remove 1/2 a star for attention to detail. The only other concern was their quotes for electrical stuff seem to be on the higher side. We only got it done where it was really essential and I would recommend postponing any other electrical work that can be done at a later point. Overall I do recommend them. I don't think you will ever find a perfect contractor, every one has their pros and cons. You can evaluate who suits your situation the best. read more

We did our kitchen remodel with AE Kitchen. We had little idea about what materials to choose and which pattern to go with. One of our neighbor referred us to Jenny. Jenny came to our house, did all the measurement and gave us 4 to 5 different layouts. We also went to her shop to choose material and patterns. She is very friendly, willing to listen, give us enough time, answered all the questions we had, suggested all the different patterns that we can go with. Her prices are very reasonable. After we finalized the contract with her, she gave us the estimate of 10 days to complete the job. However we were very impressed with her team. They were able to get the job done in 5 days. During these 5 days we were able to use our stove as well. That was very kind of her. Their team also made sure everything was clean before they leave for the day. After the entire job was done, we noticed that our kitchen fuse was not able to handle the load since we moved our microwave and fridge to the same fuse. She had her electrician come over to take a look and provide recommendation. She made sure to address the issue by re-wiring the socket for the fridge. She also fixed couple of broken items in our house for free which saved us calling an handyman. She did a follow-up with us after a week to make sure everything was working as expected and we are satisfied. As Southern Californian residents, we ended up purchasing a home in San Jose over the summer. The home was built in 2004 and appeared to be in good shape. We knew there were some cosmetic changes we wanted done so we googled for Bay Area contractors. We came across reviews for AE Kitchen and Bath as well as other contractors in the area. We left messages with a few contractors and Stephen from AE Kitchen and Bath was the only that called us back. He came by for the estimate as scheduled. He also walked the property with us and gave us input and answers we needed as new homeowners. He is very straightforward and to the point which we appreciated. Then we began working with Jenny, who is the project manager and designer. She coordinates the work and helps with the design. Initially, we hired AE to demo a built-in desk in the kitchen and a console/fridge in the master closet. The job was quick and they even hauled away the debris. We ended up hiring an interior designer and as a result, hired AE to do the projects. Jenny's team installed new floors in the kitchen and bath, new countertops, backsplash, lights, etc. Fortunately, Jenny's team suspected a leak when doing the floors and was able to repair. During that time, San Jose had experienced rain and a leak in the roof was also discovered and thanks to Jenny it was repaired. Although it was more money spent, it was a problem we were able to catch early. We highly recommend Jenny and her team. The tile work is stunning!
