We wanted to remodel our bathroom from the original build and chose HQR to complete the work after getting quotes from 4 other companies. Jaeden was the project manager who came to our home and walked us through his process. He gave us a verbal quote same day and a written quote within a day or two. The cost was competitive, especially because it included an in-person designer with mockups. I am a very particular person with perfectionistic tendencies, so it was important to me to have my vision play out to exact specifications. I also needed to have it completed on a tight timeline. Overall, the work that we had done (complete gutting and remodel of a full bathroom, plus retiling the floor of the powder room) met my high expectations. It turned out beautifully and adds a lot to our home. I trusted the workers who did the work, which was important when I had an emergency and had to be away from home for 2 weeks. Jaeden checked in on the project regularly and was in prompt communication with us for any questions or concerns we had. The biggest issue we had was with the supplier, Kitchen Makers, who did not reserve the materials we purchased and did not communicate anything with us or HQR. This led to a delay and, unfortunately, a change in design due to having to find a different vendor for the countertop. However, Jaeden was able to find us a new piece that also saved us a lot of money. At the end of the project, everything was reviewed by Jaeden and myself, and every requested touch-up was made to our 100% satisfaction. Unfortunately, our experience with this company was very disappointing. They missed the initial estimate appointment (Strike 1), and I had to follow up to check in. They later rescheduled and offered a 10% discount off the proposal for the inconvenience, but on the day of the rescheduled appointment, the project manager showed up over an hour late (Strike 2). No call or heads up ahead of time at all. After the estimate, we waited over a week and did not receive the proposal. I followed up (again) and was told it would be sent by end of day Friday. It's been 2 weeks since then and we still haven't received it (Strike 3). We really wanted to like this company based on their great reviews, but the lack of communication and follow-through was incredibly concerning. If they can't arrive on time for an estimate or send through a proposal when promised, it makes you question how reliable they would be for the actual job. read more

The general rule of thumb is to get at least 3 quotes before beginning any remodel. We were so impressed with Amir Levy from HQR that we chose to forgo this advice. Amir was the second contractor we reached out to, but we knew within the first 15 minutes of our consultation that we wanted him to lead our remodel. As it was our first time doing a full house remodel, we really had no idea what to expect. The first contractor we spoke to made grandiose claims about what they could accomplish and how easy everything would be as well as pressured us to sign a rushed and inaccurate SOW, all of which gave us bad vibes. In contrast, Amir was refreshingly realistic about the process of going through a full remodel, including going over with us all of our available options with the pros and cons of each option; what to consider and expect during each stage of the remodel; and typical remodeling challenges. After our consultation, he sent us a very detailed SOW within the promised time frame. As we were reviewing the SOW, he encouraged us to ask questions and be upfront with him about all of our concerns. Whatever concerns we had prior to signing the contract, he was able to address honestly and without any sugarcoating. We truly felt that he had our best interests in mind and wanted us to make the right decision for our home and family, regardless of who we went with. We ultimately signed with HQR because we felt that we could trust Amir. Amir understands full house remodels very well which made the entire process overall stress free for us. If we had questions about any phase, Amir was able to answer them; if he didn't have the answers, he would search for them and get back to us. He also has a list of recommended vendors for each major phase. While he didn't require us to go with his vendors, we ended up going with them 99% of the time because it greatly simplified things for us. We know we were not the easiest clients due to our perfectionist tendencies. However, Amir is also a perfectionist himself, and this is reflected in the quality of work that he delivered. No large project is completely without challenges so what matters to us is how those challenges are addressed. If there was ever a mistake in the work, he would have his workers fix it to his (very high) standards, no questions asked. There were even many instances where he pointed out and corrected mistakes that we would have never caught ourselves which is a reflection of his integrity and dedication to delivering quality work. As we progressed in the project and had a better idea of our remaining budget, we added several change orders. Amir made the change order process very straightforward by giving us reasonable quotes with full clarity on what would be included and excluded. We never felt like we had to negotiate with him, and there were never surprises about something not being covered. In summary, we feel very fortunate to have crossed paths with Amir Levy. He is honest, hardworking, dependable, and passionate about his work. He keeps all of his promises no matter how large or small. Thanks to him, we went from having an outdated, mostly original 1970s home to what we finally feel is a beautiful home that reflects our family. We receive compliments from EVERYONE who visits. We doubled the size (+1300 sf) of our home by expanding the first floor and adding a second. This was a very large scale project and I was put at ease given his knowledge and experience. I hired a couple of other contractors before Amir and HQR that I wasn't satisfied with. As a result I had to part ways and was left with a shell of a house and unfinished designs/blueprints. When Amir Levy and HQR earned the job multiple aspects of the project were very off that his team were left with. We had a pleasure of working with Amir Levy for HQR. We originally chose him based upon superb Yelp reviews, and we are absolutely thrilled with our decision. Ron, Avi and the guys at HQR did a stellar job on our huge home remodel. We added a second story to our small 2-1 craftsman bungalow in Oakland, nearly doubling it in size. We also moved a kitchen and living room wall and completely gutted our very old kitchen. We basically rebuilt the entire home, while doing out best retain and restore the character of our nearly 100 year old home. We had tried to start this process over a few years, running into snags and unethical contractors along the way, and are so happy that we landed in the capable hands of this team. At every step along the way, we felt honestly communicated with and cared for on a personal level. In addition to this, all of the subcontractors they worked with were top notch as well as courteous and considerate of our neighbors. Bought a house (6 months ago) that needed a lot of TLC. Initially I was dreading the process of picking a contractor and dealing with the work itself. We remodeled 3 bathrooms and it turned out to be a very positive experience thanks to Ron and his guys (including René and his crew). They make everything smooth. Ron is the coolest. He understands what you want better than yourself and with his experience is able to describe it to you with all the bells and whistles you didn't know you wanted in a language even people the most unfamiliar with construction can understand. As for the quality Ron first has great taste and second he won't quit until you (and he actually) are fully satisfied with the end result. For instance the shower floor tile wasn't perfect in one of the bathrooms. Ron brought in a shower tile expert to redo it even though we would have been fine with it the way it was. HQR just completed a master bathroom remodel for us. We would use them again without hesitation! We had a shower waterproofing failure from our previous remodel that forced us to tear out a large tiled shower and tiled floor. Amir was our project manager, and gave us a prompt and thorough quote. Given that the waterproofing problem was the only reason we were doing the project, I asked a lot of detailed questions about how they planned to do certain steps. Amir was able to answer my questions to my satisfaction, and made me feel confident that HQR knew what they were doing. We found Amir to be very friendly, easy to communicate with, refreshingly honest, and transparent. He was more than willing to entertain my questions and make sure that my concerns were satisfied. He double-checked the quantity of materials we were ordering, which helped avoid a likely delay. Daniel was the foreman. He and his team are very experienced with tile, which was perfect since our job required a lot of tile work - specifically large format tiles. Daniel and his team did a truly outstanding job. They had excellent craftsmanship, and took pride in their work. They had specialists for different tasks rather than trying to be a jack-of-all-trades. Everyone was very professional and pleasant to work with. I appreciated how well they cleaned up the workspace and surrounding areas at the end of each day. Everyone wore masks consistently due to Covid. Ron, the owner, stopped by a couple of times to check on progress and make sure standards were being upheld (which they already were). The work was completed on time and on budget as per the original estimate. We finally got around to remodeling our ancient master bath in our 60's ranch style home and wow- we picked the right company in HQR. Our project manager Avi was delightful from start to finish- funny, personable and super efficient. He always communicated with us in such a timely fashion and ran many of the small errands that came up during the project while we were at work. Our construction manager was José. He and his crew were fabulous. Again- the communication was so good and so thorough. Their workmanship was beautiful and they were prompt in tweaking the few items on our final punch list. We are actually sad that we won't be seeing them every day any more, but we are thrilled with the completed project. Highest marks for HQR. I contacted Rafi (Project Manager) after a disastrous experience with another contractor, who left us with a brand-new, leaking shower they refused to fix. Folks, very few contractors will step in and fix someone else's mess: it's just too much of a headache. But Rafi agreed to help us, thank goodness. He was delightful to work with and actually became a friend in the process. Having your house ripped up months after you've just completed a job is pretty traumatic: Rafi understood this and was really patient with our anxiety and all our questions. After he removed the faulty shower, he insisted that we test for mold to be thorough. I really didn't think this would be a problem after just a few months of leaking, but lo and behold, he was right. We had mold. Rafi helped us get it remediated quickly and then rebuilt our bathroom. He gave me a lot of good design advice in the process which the other contractor never bothered to do. We are not just thankful for the good job HQR did, we are indebted to Rafi for taking on this very challenging project and making us smile at a really difficult time. Thank you HQR! read more
