    Douglaston Salad

After many years of my parents and brothers ordering from Aegea West, I finally came around to making a review because of how consistently good the pizzas and the salads are from here. There aren't many other restaurants that are as consistent with the quality of the dishes and ingredients as Aegea, with dishes like their extra-large pizzas pretty much feeding our entire family for dinner that day (parents and two brothers included). I will add a follow up review when we next order a pizza from them again just for the pictures for size scale, frankly nothing beats it in value, at least locally from personal experience. And whenever I am in the mood for something different, you cannot go wrong with the salads and wraps, a particular favorite and really consistent one being the Douglaston salad/wrap, which has every single ingredient compliment the rest rather well, the chicken cutlet, the honey mustard, the mozzarella, the lettuce and the pita, it all fits so well together we honestly can't stop ordering that dish haha (picture below). Just make sure to eat it when you pick it up/have it delivered when the chicken is still warm and it's perfect!

My experience getting food from Aegea was a pretty good one. I got my food delivered and the service was great. They processed my order and cranked the food out of the kitchen in no time. There's a great variety of items on the menu, and some interesting fusions of different cuisines. I wanted to try them all, but I ended up getting the Horiatiki salad, gyro sandwich, pesto chicken pizza, and Aegea fries. The price totaled to ~$40 (for the food only), which I think is a reasonable and affordable price. My favorite was the aegea fries (I think their house fries) - they were well seasoned and perfectly loaded with cheese and bacon. The house signature sauce on the side was a nice addition as well. I also thought the other items were really good. The gyro sandwich was filled to the brim with a great combination of meat and vegetables, and put a stop to my hunger. The food I was most excited to eat was the pesto chicken pizza, and although I liked it and thought it was tasty, some aspects missed the mark. I couldn't get much of the familiar pesto chicken taste I was anticipating - most of the flavor was masked by a strong char taste in the crust. I enjoyed eating from Aegea and would recommend this place to anybody in the area craving Mediterranean food.

Regular pie with half pepperoni and half mushroom=delicious Ordered online and done in less than 20mins it was all about the crust, crunchy flavorful; as you can see from the picture they were not stingy with the toppings I would definitely order from them again.

    Surprisingly excellent pizza!

Aegea in Douglaston, is a Greek restaurant that happens to serve pizza. I wanted to try this place as we always drive by this area. We decided to eat in. Judging from the how often the phone rang and the bags of food waiting to be delivered or picked up, I think we made a good choice. We ordered two slices of pizza, a souvlaki plate, a gyro platter and a Greek salad. In totality, the food was above average. Three things stood out to me. The pizza was surprisingly really good, especially with the tomato sauce that they used. It was tart, in the old school way, and delicious. The souvlaki plate was also above average with tender pieces of pork grilled to perfection. As for the gyro platter, it was classic New York gyro, carved out of a giant gyro block. It was okay. What was very good about this dish was the side of tender bread and white sauce was included in the platter. It was so good, you could eat it on its own. I get the feeling that Aegea is generally a carry out or delivery restaurant as most of the business I saw was done that way. There is a small yet functional seating area, which is fine if you need to eat in. I would come again whenever I need a Greek food fix. I haven't tried the delivery method yet, but might because everyone else seems to do it!

Stopped in here late at night after getting a Christmas tree on the side of the road. Gyros were great. Staff was very friendly considering how late it was. Has a pizzeria vibe but serving Greek food. Very interesting combination. The place is clean and decorated nicely. I haven't been here until now because it always seemed vey hard to find parking at while driving by. So I would like to come back during a busier time and see what this place is like then.

    Love this salad. Must try.

Great food. I would have given it five stars but there is an annoying counter girl that is loud and ruins your dining experience.

There's a lovely rustic, yet high end vibe. It's also immaculate. Our server was fantastic...just the right balance of friendly, attentive and helpful. It was hard to choose appetizers because I actually wanted one of each. There aren't a lot of Mediterranean choices near where I live currently so my eyes were definitely WAY bigger than my stomach. That said, we shared the halloumi and three different dips served with warm pita. Then we added a last minute choice of grilled sweet sausage for my stepdad. Before we even received our appetizers, they brought a lovely pile of warm pita with delicious sides to accompany: olives, white bean spread, and red pepper hummus (I believe... whatever it was, it was delicious!). The appetizers were outstanding and it was really hard to pick a favorite. Each one of the dips was delightful: taramasalata, hummus, and eggplant. I tasted a bite of the sausage and I understood why my stepdad enjoyed it so much (perfectly cooked and just the right amount of seasoning). The appetizers were new to my mom and she truly enjoyed everything. Her main course was crabcakes and she raved about those as well. I chose the Souvlaki with a side of grilled vegetables and it was exactly what I wanted with perfectly spiced and not overcooked cubes of chicken. The other grilled chicken dish got a huge thumbs up...and that's from a super picky eater. We topped everything off by sharing a large piece of cake that was very decadent....and even though I love chocolate,.... no way I could've finished it by myself. It had an Oreo crust and the rest was a rich chocolate mousse. Next time? Baklava. Looking forward to going back to visit the fam and enjoying Maria's again. Maybe they can open up a location near Saratoga? Just saying...

He had been here before and had good things to say - since I'm a fan of Greek food, it only made sense for us to stop here, so off we went. There's no shortage of Greek restaurants in Bayside, and Avli sits among several of them on Bell Blvd. The space has a somewhat casual set up, but it's not too laid back - kinda caught in between. The restaurant is larger than I expected, with a front area containing booths, a back room with tables, and even further back they have a spacious outdoor seating area. The decor isn't too noteworthy - simple and inoffensive. The menu contained classic Greek dishes but also a few more items I wasn't familiar with. They started us with a plate of pita and tzatziki; a standard, but I thought their tzatziki was one of the better ones I've had; smooth and full of flavor. We also ordered the keftedakia and honey feta to start; the former were probably the weakest component of our meal, they had flavor but were over-fried. The honey feta was very good - lots of honey to balance the cheese, but surprisingly not heavy. For my main, I got the grilled stuffed chicken, which came with my choice of sour or salad (I got the former) and side (I chose lemon potatoes). For soups, my brother recommended the avgolemono which was delicious - the combination of the chicken, orzo, broth, and lemon worked really well together. The stuffed chicken itself was delicious - the meat itself was pounded thin, and balanced really well with the feta and spinach stuffing. I'm too used to stuffed chicken dishes being haphazardly assembled, but I can tell this was made with care. Service was very good - the whole team was friendly and food came out at a good pace. Overall, I had a great meal Avli - it's some of the best Greek food I've had in a while (take my non-Greek opinion as you will), and I would definitely consider returning if I'm in the area again.
