The cost was what we thought high ($750 for all units or $150 each). The tech was knowledgeable. One unit needed a new thermostat and he quoted $595 to replace it. He stated that two units had weak fan motor capacitors and recommended replacing them at costs of $218 and $185. There were other items he recommended replacement and one I agreed to because that unit had stopped operating. I declined the three items mentioned here because I believed the prices were outrageously high. The prices he quoted were for the parts as my "tune up" charge covered the labor for minor fixes. I looked up the prices for the three items: Thermostat: $75 Capacitors: $10 Each So, Roberts was going to charge me $998 for a thermostat and 2 capacitors that I can buy retail for $95 That's a X10 markup Anybody know a good AC guy in Galveston who works for a fair price?

The folks at Vanderford made every effort to get me me a technician ASAP while several others either said they's get back to me or gave me a six hour window to MAYBE get someone out there. The two techs that came out were both friendly guys that seemed to know their business.They got things done in as timely a manner as possible and that can really be expected. The only negatives were that I thought that maybe some of their pricing might be a bit high and that the receptionist (call center?) didn't really know anything about anything.... Overall, I feel that Vanderford Air took my issue seriously and did their absolute best to get my repairs made. Unfortunately, my experience over the last three years has been the exact opposite. I purchased a brand-new A/C system in July 2023. Within a week, it wasn't cooling properly due to low refrigerant. The same issue happened again in 2024, but instead of finding the leak, I was told to spend more money on a second return. They installed the wrong return box, damaged my ceiling, and later I discovered they failed to connect the drain properly, causing water damage inside my wall that I had to repair myself. In July 2026, the system again wasn't cooling. The technician confirmed the condenser coil was leaking, even though I had complained about refrigerant loss since shortly after installation. When I spoke with Service Manager Dan, he claimed there was no history of my previous service calls until I provided documentation. Rather than taking responsibility, he dismissed my concerns and refused to let me contact the owner directly. After negotiating, I agreed to pay $1,200 because I was promised the leaking coil would be replaced and the incorrect return installation would finally be corrected. When repair day arrived, the crew wasn't even Vanderford employees--they were third-party subcontractors. They showed up with the coil but knew nothing about fixing the return box. While working, one of the subcontractors fell from my attic ladder carrying equipment. I was more concerned about making sure he was okay than Vanderford seemed to be. I requested a call from management and never received one. After spending thousands on a new HVAC system, I've dealt with repeated refrigerant leaks, poor workmanship, home damage, broken promises, and a lack of accountability. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Vanderford Air.

I asked, what for, since Ralph said there wasn't a charge & left - John stated, "I don't know a company would stay in business if we didn't charge for this" - I paid the $99 charge, but I think it's horrible business to wait until 30 days after someone comes out to send a bill. I asked for an itemized bill SEVERAL times and never got one because they were severely OVERPRICED. I shopped @ and got two offers- one for a thousand dollars less and one for half the price- from companies that weren't afraid to itemized their charges! Also they said it would be a week for the part. As seniors in the Texas heat that is absurd! Other companies took the extra effort and got the part in a day and installed it before our elderly bodies were melted into the walls. Remind me why they never offered a senior discount or even honored the 10%labor discount our contract said we have. Not a word. They tested the system, found it was the lineset and gave me a price for the repair. The price seemed high enough to have included replacement of the line. After the work was almost done I saw the leaking line had been repaired, not replaced. I asked why, and they said they had not priced it that way and replacing the line would have cost more. They were willing to give me a discount on re-doing the work, but not credit for the repair I had never wanted. I cannot imagine why they priced a job differently than what I had said I wanted without at least warning me the work they were pricing is not what I had said I wanted.
