I was avoiding writing this review because of their polite hard working technicians. But I totally agree with other reviewers in regards to the back office. They are DISORGANIZED and harassed us over non-payment which we proved to them by sending them the check from our bank account. They continue to send us a non-payment invoice and even threatened for collections! Finally one of the people quit and another joined and he started calling me all day while I'm working! Then they charged $95 dollars for a service we didn't receive. We showed them the check and today, another non payment email b/c they can't find the check! I had Brett Seace come out to give me an estimate on having quarterly pest control. I was told it would cost $550 for the initial and my entire outside and inside would be treated. I was told in order to schedule an appointment I would have to sign a contract. The company never called me to schedule. I called the company to schedule the appointment. I had a tech call me to tell me he was at my house on an unscheduled day. No one was home to let him in so the appointment was rescheduled. The tech came out to do the initial inspection the next day however the tech did not have the ladder tall enough to reach the second level of my home. He arrived at 10:20 am and was done at 11 am. There is no way he treated the entire outside of the house, decks, patios, etc. in that short time. I have cameras and did not see him on the cameras doing the work he "claimed" to have done. I have had other pest companies in the past, and the treatment to the outside of the house was very extensive. The techs they sent over were pleasant, but at the end of the day they were not able to get the raccoon out of our roof/attic. Paying $300 for no result (and a few miscommunication issues) is just a bitter pill to swallow. We were also explicitly told we would get more than 7 days of service if they did not catch it, but they fought me on the issue, which caused a gap in coverage and made everything more complicated (the context for all of this is we were having construction work done to the roof/attic and needed it to be clear and safe). I'm not sure if there is a company that charges for results, but sending a tech over to put a sandwich or can of tuna in the trap 4 or 5 times over the week is just NOT worth $300. read more

We use them before without a problem but this second time around my husband scheduled appointment and representative came out and give us a quote and up sold us on some other product and services. However the work we call for to clean out an exhaust that had a bird and put a new cap on to prevent birds from going inside never was done. Both times the technician was a no show and the manager did not bother to apologize or reschedule the appointment. Very unprofessional and very poor customer service. We had a minor pest control problem. A fast-talking sales-person showed up at the appointed time and explained the root cause of the problem. He then went on to quickly prepare a contract and asked us to sign it with our credit card details without informing explicitly that the contract was for a year. He said that his colleague would come to fix the problem the next day. He did come but failed to remedy the issue and problem persisted until I worked on it myself. While the starting value of the contract was $249, our credit card was charged $299. They refunded the difference once I told them that they were supposed to charge $249. The bottom line: Affordable Pest does shoddy work and its sale people are only looking for new customers to maximize its income. I would not recommend its services to anyone. Called on Friday night because an animal was stuck in a vent. Nothing was available so made an appointment for Saturday morning between 8-11. Called at 1050 because nobody had contacted me. Was told a manager would call me back because they couldn't get in touch with the tech assigned to come out. Called back 2 hours later because still no contact from anyone in the company. Was given the same line, couldn't get in touch with a tech and a manager would call. Called back an hour later and was told a manager wouldn't call until Monday. This is beyond horrible customer service. I would have been fine if they were upfront and said nobody was coming or calling. But instead I wasted 6 hours of my day. read more

I contacted Affordable after being referred to them through the Thumbtack referral system. I followed that up by reviewing their ratings on YELP, and figured I'd give it a go since the majority of their reviews came back 5 stars. Now. I'm sure those others who've posted truly had a great experience with Affordable. However, I did not. After hearing what I thought was a squirrel that had crawled in through an outside, vent, I had Affordable come to my home to inspect. They came to my home on 12/11. The inspector, who seemed well experienced and knowledgeable, walked in, looked around, went to the space I was hearing the noise from, then went outside to inspect. After walking around the property (I live in a fully detached SFH in DC), he came in to give me a full report. Because his level of knowledge seemed great, I let it go that he did not ask to inspect my basement, kitchen space, nor my 2nd floor. He immediately stated that he thinks I may have a rat (or two), and that he'd suggest RAT stations. After some discussion, I agreed to have two stations placed, with bait outside for a total of $150. We then discussed a plan to have Affordable return after a month, every month, for three months, for $35/month to refresh the stations. After 01/05, I received a phone call from an Affordable technician, who stated that he was at my property to refill the stations and inspect the home. No prior notice. Since I was at work, and I couldn't just leave at the drop of a hat, and after some discussion about why I was given no prior notice, I let him go ahead and service my two stations, both of which were FULLY paid for from the first payment. I followed up with him to let him know that I would contact Affordable directly to make the $35 payment, per my contract. The next day, I contacted Affordable, and ended up speaking to someone. I proceeded to let them know that I needed to make payment, but first, asked that going forward they give me at least a day's notice to let me know they're coming, especially since the $35 I'm paying is not only to refill the station, but to inspect the exterior AND interior of the home. Then, I stated that I would like to make payment. THAT is when things started getting fishy. He claimed that I owed $35 for refilling the station, PLUS $115. Already perturbed that they showed up at my home without any prior notice, I asked why, since the contract I signed, and was looking at in my hands, stated I'd only be paying $35, he was unable to answer. So, I asked to speak to his boss or owner. After a few moments, and some heated discussion, I asked that my contract be cancelled. I was told by the owner that I seem to be having a bad day, and that he'd just like to put this to rest. Further perturbed, I asked what I needed to do to make payment of the $35, since at this point the owner said the $115 was a mixup. He responded that he didn't want my money and that the contract would be cancelled. I agreed, and thought that was that. Fast forward one week, and I come home one day and, as I'm entering my home, I see that the two stations that I'd FULLY paid for had been removed from the side of my home. Since I'd had enough, I chose not to call, and have since moved on to a pest company who's representative just left after spending two hours at my home, inspecting EVERY nook and cranny, only to tell me that the RAT stations I'd previously paid for were not necessary as I have.....a mouse. read more

I've been having mice problems for a while. The traps worked for a while but eventually the mice smartened up and nothing I did worked. Christapher Borden was the technician who responded. He was punctual, polite, and gave excellent service, perhaps the best service of any technician that has visited my home to take care of some problem. He educated me throughout the entire inspection and gave me an honest assessment of the situation. I learned a few new things about the way mice operate. Never did I feel like he or his company were trying to take advantage of me. In the end, the consultation was free and the best recommendation was a home-solution I could do myself: we found the most likely infiltration point at the exterior wall behind the kitchen - a gap around a pipe penetration near the ground which I can seal using foam spray I already own. I will not hesitate to use Affordable Pest again in the future. read more

Working with this company turned into a disaster which is unfortunate because the inital consultation and service was promising. The initial service and contract details were discussed over the phone. They came out and treated my condo (I own the unit but rent it out). Despite repeated attempts to contact the company representative to discuss my contract, I never received a response. Eventually, they sent me an invoice with an amount that was not what I agreed to. Basically, they decided not to honor a Yelp deal that they advertised. As I tried to interface with them over several months to get this rectified, I received a call that they were going to send the account to collections. I called them immediately and explained the situation and the assured me that they would not send it to collections because I had a paper trail of evidence that showed my repeated attempts at contacting them and making an honest attempt to get the contract corrected and pay my invoice. One week later, I received a notice from a collections agency with the invoice, late fee, and a notice that my credit may be impacted. This company has nice people, but DO NOT initiate service with them. They made up a contract (that I never signed) and billed me for a service contract that I did not agree to. Additionally, they do not appear to be able to communicate effectively within their own company. Finally, the service that was performed was not good. I found several holes that were not patched to prevent rodent intrusion. I ultimately paid what they wanted to be done with this. I spent way too much time dealing with this mess. We have a small apartment community located in Northern Virginia. The property has a lot of trees and shrubbery so mosquitos was a great concern for us. We called Affordable Pest and they were very responsive to our needs. The technicians came out and treated the property and it has been great. I walked the property the evening after the treatment was completed and had no issues with mosquitos. We have now had a second treatment and the results have been fantastic. You can sit at the pool during the evening hours and not get devoured by the mosquitos. Sounds great, so I set up service and Eric said they would be out between 8 and 10 tomorrow. At 10 I call and told them no one had showed up. The guy that answered said no we have you down for 4 to 6 today. Ok easy mix up. 6 rolls around and nothing I call and the guy says there close, just stuck in traffic. Ok easy enough, understandable. Hour and a half later I call and get there answering service and they said they will send a message to them. So if you want a 60 day guarantee then go with them, but if you want to waist a whole day go with them as well. I would cancel the service, but I rent and the owner already paid so I am stuck. We had found Affordable Pest on Home Advisor. They were very quick to respond and scheduled a free inspection between 10AM-1PM. We planned out entire day around this appointment which they never showed up to. When I reached out to let them know about missing the appointment they said "OK. I do apologize, we can get that rescheduled" - what? That's it? People plan their days around YOUR given window. We were having swarms of random bugs, we weren't sure if they were flying ants or termites, in the spring and occasionally in the fall for a few years. They were only appearing in the bathroom and coming through the air vent. The first time it occurred we contacted another pest control who stated that it may be termites but don't be too concerns as it looked to be swarmers and we were moving some old books and shelves around. Hummmm ok. Fast forward - the swarming occurred seasonally for a few years with no other incidences and the swarmers dying off. Finally, this spring, I noticed them in other rooms in the house, including the kitchen. Now I can deal with occasional bugs in the (small) hall bathroom, but my kitchen? O Heck No!! So I called another bug company. The guy they send evaluated the bugs and couldn't tell if they were termites or ants.....strange. He offered to treat for other bugs in case that it was ants. I went ahead because bugs may be extra protein but I would prefer to not have it in my food. He sent the "termite expert" who confirmed that yes, it was termites. He attempted the scare tactic telling me that my house was infected and everything was going to fall down. According to my independent research and prior experiences with the other bug companies, this was likely not true. Did some research on Yelp, noting the above mentioned company had poor reviews, and found Affordable Pest control. They also had a great Yelp deal going on. Kris came to our home, looked at the perimeter of the foundation and confirmed that we actually had been treated before in the past for termites due to the holes in the concrete padding. (we were told that it was but don't fully trust the prior owner's word). We decided to treat again because we have been in the house for 4 years and would prefer to have the piece of mind. The team came out, excavated the perimeter of the foundation and installed the treatment. The treatment that they installed was the same as the prior company who gave us an estimate for work. Did I mention that Affordable lived up to it's name and offered the same treatment product for HUNDREDS of dollars cheaper?? Add the Yelp deal that was going on to the mix and we felt that we got a fab deal. Wonderful price, great employees and helpful staff. We are planning some kitchen renovations and they even offered to return to evaluate if damage was found when the walls were opened. read more

Grossly mismanaged business. I signed up for the quarterly service contract with Affordable Pest to deal with a very serious rodent problem in and around the rowhouse I bought in DC. The technician they sent was actually quite knowledgeable, friendly, and effective at sealing up the property and beginning the rat extermination efforts. However, I quickly realized that because scheduling ahead of time was so difficult, I was doing all the maintenance work of emptying the rat and mouse traps myself, and could just as easily re-bait the poison stations with a cheap refill bucket from Amazon. So I decided not to renew the contract for another quarter, and directly told a manager of their Lorton office that I did not want any more service unless I called them first. Affordable Pest's business office first charged me $35 for my second bait station despite the clear terms of the quarterly contract including two stations. They "refunded" this in the form of an account credit I will never use since I'm cancelling their service. Next, Affordable apparently sent someone to my house without any prior notice or scheduling and without my permission. This person could not have gotten inside the house but apparently found some way through the locked back gate to "check" the traps I was already maintaining, oh and leave a bill on the door for $200+. When I got a call from Affordable the next day, I was expecting some sort of explanation for the erroneous trespassing, or at least a check-up on the service. Nope. Another aggressive mosquito-control sales call from Affordable despite the fact that I have zero grass/yard and it's almost Fall. Multiple calls to their office about the unwanted, unscheduled service resulted in promises from a call-back from a manager. Still waiting for a response over a month later; they have my cell and office numbers. If you're not comfortable taking care of the rats yourself in DC, there are plenty of other pest control options more centrally located and with ostensibly less shady business practices. read more

Well let me just say, I originally called them because I was told by ADT that my wires were being chewed on, this was the second time in about two years they had to replace my camera. So I called these folks to see what the deal was. I was told there was squirrel droppings in my attic, So I signed up to have them set a trap, they never retrieved anything, but I was charged $527 something dollars to clean up squirrel droppings, and they told me I needed a new attic fan the one I had was broken. So I decided to have it replaced. They were suppose to show up, did not because it was raining, nobody called me to tell me other wise. Was told a manager would get in touch with me on two occasions, I did not here from anyone. So I called and told them their services were no longer needed. Worst business practice ever. Now I need to go check my credit card statement to make sure I was charged for services I did not receive. They suck. read more

Very frustrating experience with this company! It doesn't matter how good they are at pest control if they're so disorganized and don't keep appointments at the originally planned time. Everyone's time is precious, so no, we can't just reschedule the appointment another day because I'd have to take another day off of work. The first appointment with Robert was fine, but things went downhill from there. He and I made a follow up appointment for the next Friday from sometime between 7 am-10 am which he agreed to because I had already scheduled an eye doc appt at 11 am. The day before, I got a "reminder" call that they'd be at my house between 10 am-2pm. Um, no...that's not what was scheduled. I called and said that they had it wrong and I had already arranged my schedule to be home between 7 am-10 am so they needed to fix it. Erica said she'd see what she could do. She called back and said she could get someone to my house at 10 am. I said that would be great - as long as they left by 10:30 so I could go to my eye doctor appointment. She confirmed the appointment wouldn't take that long and it wouldn't be too big of a problem. The next morning, I decided to take my dog to Rock Creek for a hike since now no one would be coming to my house before 10. Sometime when I was hiking (around 8:30 or 9 am) they called and left a voice mail saying they were at my house and where was I? Excuse me? That was the ORIGINAL plan. Remember, I changed my plans for you the day before? So I called and spoke with Erica again. She apologized and admitted their mistake. I said "I'm done" working with your company and no longer want to receive services from you (I had the contract for every 3 months). She convinced me to at least let one of the guys still come out to my house at 10 for the "free" follow up service. I said okay, fine, the guy can still come at 10, as long as he comes right at 10 because of my eye appt. I got home at 9:45 and waited...and waited...and right at 10:30 when I needed to leave, this dude rings the doorbell. Seriously?! Get your shit together Affordable Pest. Avoid them at all costs. I had them come out to treat an issue at my house, in addition to laying down some traps. The technician tried to get me to sign a contract which, when I read it, said they would charge me every month. I made clear I did not want an open ended contract and specifically noted I wanted 90 days on the contract and that's it. They kept charging me until I called them to stop. They said that I would have to pay a $250 cancellation charge which I told them, in that case, do not cancel since its the same as the service. The next day they charged me. They would not refund the charge but only apply a credit. It is like a mafia outfit. They get your credit card and won't stop charging you. Zero customer service. Avoid, avoid avoid. read more

Affordable Pest is a very dishonest Company. I heard light occasional noises above my head, I wasn't sure if it was coming from the attic or the roof, so I searched both thumbtack and the internet to find a pest control company. Michael Brice, the home service inspector at Affordable Pest was the first company that came to my house. Mr. Brice stated that he smelled mice urine in the attic, (but I didn't smell urine in the attic) he stated that he smelled mice urine when he walked in the front door entryway of my house, (but I didn't smell any mice urine when I walked into my house) he also stated that he saw evidence of mice droppings, even identifying where he thought the mice was entering into my house, (but I never saw evidence of any mice droppings). In addition, he told me because of the evidence of mice droppings in my attic and the urine smell that he needed to take all of the old insulation out of my house, clean the entire attic and re-do the insulation. ALL LIES. He even quoted me an outrageous price of $7,200. I knew when that guy left my house I wasn't going to hire this company. Thank GOD I scheduled three different companies to come by, the second pest company , Mike Galope is GOD sent. He confirmed what I was thinking all along, that there was no evidence of mice droppings, no urine smell in the attic or otherwise, nothing wrong with the current insulation, in fact, he stated that my attic looked pretty good. Mike, the honest GOD sent angel even took me outside and showed me where the occasional noises I was hearing over my head was coming from. It was tree branches landing on my roof from the birds and squirrels when they climb the trees. And as far as the mice entering into my house, that was also a lie that the Affordable Pest told because that area is sealed and no animals can enter through. Mike Galope from the second company even came back into the house and checked the basement and all areas around the house and answered all questions. I do plan to use his service in the very near future for termite prevention, etc. Mike Galope, the second company is by far the best, most knowledgeable, responsive, professional, caring person in business today. I was most impressed with his honesty and because of his honesty he is not only my pest control company but I sent a blast text to all of my family and friends to contact for their pest control needs, we have also advertised his company on Facebook. If you're looking for a Pest Control company, please do not hesitate to use Mike's Pest and Termite Control company. Affordable Pest company is dishonest, if you are planning to use this company, please get at least three different estimates because they will tell you lies and then hike up the price. read more

I would give a zero but that's not possible. So I called last week to schedule an appointment due to having a birds nest in my exhaust vent outside the house. Whomever I talked with said my appointment was scheduled the next day between 1 and 3. I I received called back from either Brett or Sean. He tells me I don't have an appointment this call is just for a quote. I had been waiting around that day for the appointment. So he then tells me I can get scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week without a definitive time. I settle on Wednesday and he tells me I can call in the morning and get a time. So I call the company on Wednesday morning and the later tells me I may have to be rescheduled. I say I thought my appointment was already confirmed? She then replies we can fit you in between 330pm and 530pm. I accept the appointment and go on about my day. I get home at 330 to wait for my confirmed time. I wait around until 530 and here nothing. So I call around 535pm and ask where is my repair person. I am told I am still on the list for the day but the lady says she needs to call me back to find out how long it will be for my operator to arrive. I never get a call back! So I wake up this morning and receive an email stating my service is complete and to pay my bill. So here is the rub in all of this. I am in a new home still under warranty, the cap that covers the vent was off either from the birds or was just faulty to begin with. I cannot get the warranty providers to come out to my property until the birds were removed. So for an entire week I had been coordinating a time simultaneously to have this repaired. So come to find out the individual came to my property last night sometime after 730pm. No call no notification no anything! So now I had to scramble this morning to get the warranty folks to come out and reinstall vent cap to ensure no more birds were there. Mind you 14 hours passed and I had no way of knowing whether are not the birds came back. Luckily for me the warranty company came back and made sure everything was normal. So I called Affordable Pest this morning and explained all this in the detail I am writing this. All I was told is I could have another appointment explaining to me what was done. No compensation, no discount, nothing. I asked the lady if she were me would she think this was sufficient? She said yes lol. She did say they would not charge me to come back out. I stated I know that already because I would not pay you anyway. Do not and I repeat do not use this company for your pest control services. I really wish I would have looked on yelp ahead of time and seen their poor reviews. Hopefully this message will help someone else and I apologize for the length! read more

My parents had a rat in their townhouse and after weeks of trying to catch it on their own, they called Affordable Pest to step in. On the day of the appointment, I was at there to meet with the inspector/technician and explain the situation (droppings/sightings/etc.). He laid traps and poison in addition to sealing off any entry points he found around the house. During that entire time, I probably asked dozens of questions, and the technician was knowledgeable and very helpful. I'm happy to report my parents' home is now rat free. read more

Run far and fast from this company. We used them in 2014 with a yelp coupon. They were supposed to come 3 times, they came once and then sent us to collections for non payment. We paid up front with the yelp coupon. So they still owe us 2 visits. We are still in collection with them. What a scam artist. They should all be in jail!!! read more

This company does great work! I have tried different companies but none of them were as good as Affordable Pest. THEY WERE VERY COST EFFICIENT, AND FLEXIBLE COMING OUT AND GETTING THE JOB DONE. Bryan B. who came to my house was very professional, friendly and on time. Best of all, he really seem to care if I have seen any bugs!! I had an appointment for them to come by and give me an estimate. They never showed, they never called - they seem to have completely forgotten my existence. And I don't feel like following up with someone for a first-time contact should be on my head. I went elsewhere.
