Do not hire this company. They replaced our roof in 2021 and guaranteed a 5 year warranty. In 2024, we are having the same issues happen. He called me today, saying there was not a problem with the work done and became belligerent when I responded how can you say that when no assessment has been made. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. I would give less stars if possible. John Tan (owner / proprietor) presents himself as a trustworthy, old school Chicago guy with immense experience in roofing. Unfortunately, I was sold a bill of goods on his services. He was hired to replace and silicone coat the membrane of our flat roof on the main area as well as replace / repair the membrane of the dog house. Everything seemed on the up and up and work on the main part of the roof was completed. Unfortunately, I did not take enough time and effort to inspect all of the work as the dog house is 10 ft above the normal roof, and is not at all easily accessible (simply looking up there using an 8ft ladder is dangerous). He had not done ANY work on the dog house (this is the roof area that is above the stairs which go to the roof). I had been given a written guarantee for all roof work for 7 years, spelled out in the signed contract, for all of the roof work, as well as yearly inspections from his company to perform preventative maintenance during these 7 years. Less than a year later, heavy rains are falling and we notice leaks. After inspecting the dog house area, it is clear his crew did not do the contracted (and paid for) work required. The entire dog house roof is still untouched. I reached out to him (25 October 2021), and was promised this work would be completed "within the next 5 days." I sent pictures of the clearly unfinished work. About a week later, an employee contacted me and inspected the area. He, in very clear terms, explained that the dog house area was definitely the root cause to our issue, and it was clear that a repair / replacement was not done in that area. He applied some stop gap measures (roof patching / quick solution type things) and stated that these fixes should mitigate leakage until a proper repair was performed. After several more calls and texts, John eventually stopped responding to all call, texts, and other means of communication. As of the time of this review (5 March 2022), he still refuses to respond, despite the signed contract. I'm pursuing all avenues possible to have them complete the work. If you are in a similar situation, I would be happy to speak with you so we can pool our efforts towards a resolution. read more

John came out and provided a quote for a job repairing a section of our brick building Then they come out and completely pull a bait and switch telling us it would now cost more money for the work on our contract! They replaced our roof back in October and after the last rain storm, there was still water coming in. We tried to reach out to them countless times for months. Before we hired them, we asked about warranty coverage and we are still in the warranty period for them to fix any potential issues. They keep saying they will send someone but no one has reached out or come out. Additionally, the contract says they will come for an annual inspection. Looks like they are not willing to come to do that as they ignored requests for them to check on the roof after we experience additional issues. Completely unprofessional and dishonest. Other reviews on Yelp and other sites have customers who have had the same experience as I did. Due to issues with their work, we had another roofing company come out to assess and the company confirmed affordable roofers did not do the job properly and that the quality of work is very poor. So much so that the company recommend we pursue legal action. Stay away and do not use them. They are licensed under roofing tech inc and do business under this name as well. read more

To start of if I'm able to rate this company and its owner a half or zero star i would but it doesn't have zero or half star. So, i had to do 1 star. In May, i had an emergency due to my roof leaked, i found this company & John by chance. I tried calling other companies but since we were in the pandemic nobody was willing to come out. I felt lucky he was still working and agreed to come by to do the estimate. When he arrived he told me what was wrong with the roof and quoted me a price. It was high but since he was willing to work, i was fine with it plus he was willing to add additional fixer upper too like fixing 3 of the shingles on my garage roof and the front steps. Once the roof was completed he reassured me if it leaks to let him know. I was like wow, ok i can trust and work with this company & john in the future. After i paid the last check and he was supposed to add the shingles and finished up the front steps that was when things started to get weird. One of his people came by blasted the steps with high water pressure, leaving holes everywhere. After that the guy disappeared. I called and texted and finally reached John, he told me his brother caught the COVID-19 as well as some of his workers. I let that go and three or four more weeks goes by. I called and texted him again explaining to him since he left holes everywhere and if my property received any damages he will be responsible for it, plus i have an inspector coming by to inspect the house, no one showed up, after a couple more calls he finally send someone. The guy came out almost completed the work, but then he disappeared once again. I tried calling John & texting him but received no result. I finally called this business number and he told me he lost his phone. I asked him when will he send someone to finished the 3 or 4 hours job that should have been completed 2 months ago. He told me he won't send his people out if the weather isn't right(rain), or the temperature is to high. Then that same day a guy showed up after working hour in the middle of the night scared us half to death, he started working in the dark making a huge messed. It was supposed to be better but it got worse. I called and left a message for John, he texted me on a different number, saying he will have someone completed the job. No one ever showed up. My steps look like someone threw up on it and the shingles was never put up. His crew left a whole mess of tools, cements, 3 bags of debris that i have to haul myself & shingles all over my front yard killing my grass and damaging my property. We are now in August, he has completely abandoned the job and i have to clean up his mess. Please if you're thinking of giving this company or this man by the name of John and his people your business, I deploy you, please do not do business with him, he's nothing but a liar and a cheat. He even tried to get me to co-signed for his building after he tried to get more money out of me and I told him over and over that I do not have anymore money to pay him for other jobs that I don't need. Please, please be careful with his man and this company. I will post this review once a week just so people are aware of his shady business. Also, there are others who had the same experiences I do. Read the other reviews first. So, right after i posted this review this is how quickly this man response, he should be as quick in finishing the job as he should in responding to my review. He and his team were quite professional, and John kept me apprised every step of the way, John also sent me before and after photos. I'm glad that others have had a great experience with this company, but sadly that is not the case for us. This would have been a 5 star review had it not rained heavily before I found the time to write this up. Pre heavy rain I would tell you that John was a pleasure to work with. He was prompt, price was right and roof looks good. However, it's post heavy rain and I have a different story. The whole reason we got the roof replaced was because we were experiencing a leak when the rain was heavy and the wind was blowing. We communicated the issue and John said they'd take care of it. Our first red flag should have been when John wanted us to make the check out to him personally rather than is company, and then required us to answer the phone when Western Union called because he needed the money immediately to purchase supplies. I've NEVER had someone doing work on our house ask us to do this. After the leak reoccurred we tried to get in contact with John as he provides a warranty for his work. Well a warranty is only good if you can get a hold of the person providing it. Of course he picked up the phone when we called the first time, but once he knew what we wanted our calls, texts and voicemails went unanswered. Except for when we called from different numbers that is. Oddly enough, when we called from a new number the call would be answered. On those occasions we were either told he would come by on a certain day but he couldn't give us a time (and then never showed), or he would give us a personal tragedy or event that kept him from being able to come out. He has two different numbers for the same company as well, and at one point one of the mailboxes was full. I don't want to sound heartless, but I am inclined not to believe his reasons now that it's been nearly 3 weeks and he has blown off two appointments and won't answer our calls. The last time I called someone else answered his phone, gave another excuse, and then asked how big the leak was, as if the size of the leak should matter for whether or not they come and fix the issue they were hired to fix in the first place. Ultimately we had to hire a new roofer and spend additional money to have the issue fixed. It should be noted that the water was getting in at a window, where the tar he'd used to seal it had cracked. He didn't use any metal flashing. Which, based on another review, seems to be a reoccurring issue with his work. read more

Called this company for repairs, told me I had to replace my roof which I unfortunately had them do. Several months later I had issues with shingles and I had to bombard John repeatedly to get them to fix which they did however I now have other issues and he won't respond. He'll tell you how trustworthy he is and they'll take care of you and honor their warranty, etc. But he'll eventually blow you off. He's a disgrace, call someone else. read more

John Tan really did make it affordable for my family to have our home roof redone. He instantly recognized where our leak was coming in and worked with us to have a roof that will last 30 year. Even though we only paid for certain labors to be performed on the roof John allowed extra services to be done on the roof for little to no cost. His crew came in and finished majority of the work in one day to my surprise! Pleasure to work with them and hope to work with them for other housing projects when needed. read more

Where do I start with this man... probably one of the worst experiences. After the shingles were replaced his crew decided not to clean the old shingles and left them all in the attic. Not only did they leave me with a bunch of shingles, debris, and nails but John the owner pretty much said it was my fault for not replacing the deck. In other words spending more money. Yet the contract we signed said he would be cleaning the work site. On top of me having to pay someone to come clean my attic, His workers decided not to put any flashing on the chimneys resulting in water leaking inside the house. I had to contact John again and listen to more of his excuses as to why my chimney is leaking. He stated an animal ripped through my roof which was causing the leaking. His crew finally came back out and instead of putting flashing on the chimney he decided to put a big chunk of tar or whatever they use to seal chimneys. Hoping that this was the last time I would have to speak to this man it rained again and the chimneys are still leaking. I have sent him videos and text messages to come fix it as well as to send me my warranty on the roof which he has yet to do. Maybe this gets his attention and he come to fix the last of the mess his crew left or I'll have to escalate to small claims and get my money back for breach of contract. read more

Good job. Good price. I called Affordable Roofers and Masonry Company and they came out the next day to look at my chimney and roof to examine a leak. They took detailed pictures of the problem and texted them to me so I could see exactly what was happening. John (the owner) also was able to work with me on pricing and provide a great price for the work. Once the work was completed, he sent pictures as well to show everything had been done. I needed to have a new chimney cap put on, the flashing of the chimney repaired, and some shingles nailed down and caulked into place. John said to call him next heavy rain and make sure everything is okay. Overall a great experience. read more

I have had an small roof leak on and off for some time. John came out in the middle of winter and fixed the leak in January. Unfortunately this spring with the heavy rains and storms it came back. This time we needed to do a bigger job to repair the poor installation from the previous owners, replace the shingles and tuck point the chimneys. I was frantic because I was going out of town and bad storms were in the forecast. John came over in the pouring rain to assess the situation and then came back to give me an estimate and get the job started. His team did a wonderful job all while I was out of town and John called me several times to keep me informed. I used them because my family gave them a good recommendation. So they're either good or they're horrible...take your chances. They added $2000 to the bill for 2 extra hours labor by their workers. I was a sucker and paid the balance of the contract when the work wasn't finished and the yard was left with debris. Shouldn't we be trusting people? Not with these guys. I have the contract. I have emails and texts from them saying they'd be out to finish the job and apologizing. They never called or showed up after several promises. I went to both of the addresses on their website to try to talk to someone in person and neither of the addresses is their roofing company. What's that all about? They aren't listed as being licensed on the IDFPR either. So now I have to sue them to hope to get some of my money back, since I still have to hire someone to finish the job.
