My family found this spot so we decided to give it a try. it's honestly overhyped in my opinion. I had the golden burrito with grilled chicken which was decent and tasted good. The beef crunchwrap was beyond oily. The oil was just dripping through our fingers. I would suggest for them to do something about the beef crunchwrap so it's not dripping with oil. Still giving it a 4 star because staff was friendly. The regular fries were pretty good and crispy. They have small indoor seating and outside seating. I recently tried the loaded fries at Afghan Burritos, and they were absolutely fantastic, compared to all the loaded fries I've tried in the bay area the past 10 years! The fries were perfectly crispy and golden, providing the ideal base for the delicious toppings. However, when I got home to finish the rest of the fries, the fries were soggy, but nothing you can do about getting fries to-go. I'd highly recommend the loaded fries to eat for dine in while the fries are still fresh and crispy! The combination of melted cheese, savory meats, and fresh toppings created a mouthwatering experience that I couldn't get enough of. The unique blend of Afghan and Mexican flavors truly sets these loaded fries apart from any other I've tried. I got the surf and turf for my meats and there was a decent amount, I'd expect more based on other loaded fries I've had. Also, the shrimp are a bit on the smaller side, but good enough. They give you 2 tiny hot sauces on the side, which are wayyyyy too small for a Large loaded fries. The white hot sauce was amazing, but the red sauce that tasted like a sweet and spicy asian sauce DID NOT go well with the fries at all. I wish they would give more hot sauce to go! The Golden Burrito (Surf & Turf), they didn't skimp on the protein portions! Absolutely soaked in their signature afghan sauce. Honestly a bit too oily for me, but the flavor was there. The agua frescas are Nicaraguan-style - the Jamaica was so incredibly flavorful, almost spiced? Reminded me a bit of apple cider. It's been a while since I've been to Afghan Burrito (maybe 6 months ish?). My fiancé and I used to love their golden sauce. Recently, however, we went back and tried their chicken rice bowl again. The golden sauce tasted completely different! It wasn't necessarily bad, but it was such a starkly different flavor profile that it threw us off. The menu also has a lot more items now, so I'm not sure if they perhaps had a change in ownership or it was just an off day? Otherwise, I don't know why the golden sauce is such a different flavor. Very unique fusion food restaurant that does NOT skimp out on the portion sizes and tastes amazing. Parking here is a bit difficult, but we were able to find some street parking around the corner. You order from a small window and there's either outdoor dining or there is a covered tent with TV's and dining tables inside. The covered dining is actually pretty nice as it's heated and there's outlets to charge your phone if need be. This was great since it was raining outside. When we went there were still some menu items coming soon, so they're still growing! We got the Golden Burrito combination with steak and chicken. -Inside, the burrito is filled with rice, black beans, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheese, Romaine lettuce, jalapeno, and fajitas. -It also came with a side of chips and sauce and some of their signature Golden Sauce to dip it with. The burrito was pretty dang big and enough to share between 2 people easily. Great distribution of ingredients inside without a skewed ratio. Nice, warm and moist. Not dry at all. I really liked the golden chicken burrito. I've never seen this concept before, but it honestly makes a lot of sense. I would eat the golden sauce on chicken and rice, so why not put it in a burrito? The chicken is tender and the sauce is addicting, I have to stop myself from taking more bites after I'm full. The sweet chili sauce didn't really make sense to me, but the creamy sauce was really good with it. We also got steak nachos and I feel like with a couple tweaks it would be better. The cheese could be melted more and overall it could be hotter. The workers are always super friendly, even when they are super busy. I can sense the pride they take in their food. read more

Came here on the way back home randomly and found a gem! It was pretty late (all the outdoor seating was empty), but they were super nice and got my food out in 10 minutes. The seating outside seemed plentiful, and I like how the plants are arranged to separate the tables. I got the Golden Burrito with chicken, and the flavors melded together so perfectly. Even a 30 minute drive home didn't take away from the quality of the burrito at all. I did order it spicy but absolutely did not feel the heat (which was alright since the flavor was great). The chips were pretty good, and the side sauces were good as well though the sweet sauce was not to my taste (still solid!). This definitely is the densest burrito I have ever gotten -- it has HEFT. Gotta respect a burrito that can stand up on its own. Definitely could be made into two meals/shared between two people. Would come again to try the other meats as well! read more

Hefty burrito! It was very tasty, salty and sweet. I found it weird that they gave chili sauce, sweet chili sauce for a side and some creamy hot sauce. I was pleasantly surprised at how big the portion was! I had to take half of it home. This place would be great on a nice sunny day. I came here on a wet rainy day. At least they have an outdoor seating area that is covered and enclosed in seat! Restrooms are all the way in the back and it looks like it's a shed but it's really nice. One star off though, because after reading all the reviews, I was not provided chips and people were talking about how great the chips were. Oh well. At least I save some calories from not eating those carbs. Service was great. This a hefty burrito!! I didn't really know what I eat expecting when I ordered this delivery but I was pleasantly surprised! I also had a question so I called before I ordered and they were so friendly and patient over the phone. I was on my way to SFO and decided to finally stop by this place after seeing it on social media a while back. I've been curious ever since, especially because I love a good fusion burrito. The fusion aspect seems to come mainly from their "golden sauce" and maybe the meat options?, though I went with a vegetarian burrito. Unfortunately, I found the overall flavor underwhelming. The golden sauce didn't add much it lacked any flavor and was mostly concentrated at the bottom of the burrito. It was also supposed to come with sour cream, but I didn't see or taste any. They offer a choice of 2 additional sauces, and I went with the pink garlic. While it lived up to its name in terms of garlic, it was overwhelming like chewing raw garlic cloves with a kick of heat. There wasn't much balance in the flavor, just intense garlic and heat. I also added fries to the burrito for an extra small up charge, but I only got about 3 maybe 4 individual fries inside. Not worth the extra charge in my opinion. I was initially excited to try more of their menu, but based on this first experience, I'm not sure I'd return. Overall, the food was average at best but should've been great with both individual cuisines bursting with flavor if done right as someone else mentioned. They are known for their golden burrito but we also ordered the nachos and can't wait to try more items next time. It's located in the Cal food garden and there's a window to walk up and order. Parking is just street parking but we were able to find a spot on San Pablo half a block away. Golden burrito (spicy) - you can order steak, chicken, combo (steak and chicken), vegetarian and vegan. We shared the steak burrito and it was so flavorful. The burrito was packed and very filling- comes with two sauces (one sweet chili and I think a creamy yogurt sauce?). The sweet chili sauce with the golden sauce was a nice sweet savory combo if you're into that. Btw the spice level was not spicy enough (they described it as sriracha spicy but it didn't taste like that). I didn't mind since I loved the flavor but my husband said he'd order it again with more spice. Combo Nachos (Medium) - these were absolutely loaded with lots of steak and chicken, drenched in flavorful sauces with shredded cheese. It was a really big portion and we actually had to take most of it home (will throw it in in the air fryer lol). My boyfriend's burrito was tiny and didn't have as much protein either. Was clearly disappointed in the wait, price ($45 with 2 bottled mineral waters), and the lack of flavor. I was hoping this spot would be an amazing combo of Afghan and Mexican food. I'm glad we tried it, but we won't be back. Too much sweet and not enough savory / spicy. Someone mentioned the great chips, but these looked and tasted like $2/bag chips you get at the grocery store not bad, but nothing amazing. We asked for the hot sauce (salsa?) but received 1 tiny container of sweet chili sauce (?) and 1 tiny container of some sort of sweet creamy curry sauce that was more sweet than hot. The sauces weren't bad, but the sweetness really didn't go with the food. We ordered a burrito a couple of tacos (hard shell). The burrito wasn't bad, but it all tasted of that weird sweet curry sauce. The tacos came out in cold, soft flour tortillas loaded down with sour cream / curry sauce and weirdly cold shredded cheese. Tried to take a bite, and the filling poured out the side in a big sloppy mess that needed a fork (or spoon!) . Obviously others think more highly of the spot, but I would tell others to stay away from the tacos. read more

Although heavy on the rice, it was still just a large, heavy item of food still filled with chicken, beans and produce. May I add that this is not a Mexican burrito, per the name, it's Afghani inspired, so the spices are different. The protein seemingly all are marinated in this yellow mild curry-esque spiced sauce that makes the experience different than your typical Mexican burritos/quesadillas. First bite was a unique experience that I had to get used to. My husband went with the steak quesadilla, and similarly this was 2 meals. The space is huge if you're looking to eat outside with plenty of tables. They have a covered, enclosed area as well for these rainy days. The staff is so great, friendly and accomodating. This is definitely a top spot for cheap eats in Berkeley that fills you up with satiating eats that differs from the plentiful Mexican taquerias you can find around town. read more
