The ice cream is super yummy..I got the ube brownie in a bun. But after reading reviews, I can see a lot of people have the same complaint- the ice cream is already melting by the time we get it. So then you have to hurry up eating it because it becomes a gooey mess (I was with people who also got their ice cream in a cup and a cone - same complaint). Also...came here night after dinner...man it was forever and a day before we got our ice cream. There we're 2 people in front of us...it took 35 minutes until it was our turn. I feel bad that it was just one guy working, but this guy was also super rude as well. I always want to make sure to acknowledge that the service industry is hard, super hard...and I was trying my best to give this guy the benefit of the doubt....but damn was he making it hard to feel for him. Perfect ice cream place for those late night sweets cravings. It's a go-to spot for high schoolers after prom, since it's open pretty late! I really enjoyed their Jasmine Milk Tea ice cream. My favorite tea is Jasmine milk tea and this ice cream captured the milk tea's floral flavors! The cold ice cream is divine sandwiched between the soft, fluffy glazed milk bun. I also really enjoyed the retro "gas station" decor of the Pasadena location. I found it so tasteful and I loved the midnight- feel to the theme of the place. It feels like a gas station drive thru for some late night dessert, which is so adorable! There was a small parking lot as well as street parking, so it wasn't difficult to access the shop. This used to be my go-to for deluxe, high quality ice cream. Tried it again, yesterday (5/30/24) after a long absence. Meh! About 1/2 the number of selections there used to be. I found none of them particularly exciting. Quality was average. I am now comparing them to Handel's Ice Cream (La Canada). Been to Handel's twice recently. High quality, lots of choices, extremely tasty. Unfortunately, AFTERS is now just an AFTER-thought, and I do not plan on patronizing them again. I adore me some Afters Ice Cream! This one is located at an old school gas station - very cute idea. The parking lot itself is small, but street parking is semi-plentiful, even during peak hours. Life is short, so stuff some cold ice cream into a hot donut and call it a day! In all seriousness, it's kind of amazing, but can be a little on the sweet side depending on what flavor you go with and your love for sweets (or lack thereof). My go-to is milk & cereal with after's flakes. Their prices have gone up a little, but I understand this is part of our post-2020 world. This location on Green street in Pasadena is extremely quaint and at the site of a vintage gas station. Look for the red pumps! You can choose from a variety of flavors and toppings for a sundae. Afters features some unique flavors of ice cream and toppings. The seating is outside, but it is comfortably covered, so you're not sitting in the hot sun with your ice cream dripping down you. It features a walk up window and ice cream sundaes come out quickly. I've driven by this location several times without stopping, curious to see what it had to offer. I'm so glad I did. The combination of the location and the ice cream is a deal. Importantly, green is a one-way street. You want to turn on to Green from Lake or Del Mar to ensure you do not miss it. For years, I've struggled with the ice cream sandwich problem. Cookies that are too firm, so when you bite, all the ice cream is squeezed out. But look no further than Afters, whose milky bun ice cream sandwiches solve the problem. Their sticky, donut-like bun is not overly sweet, is served warm, and acts as the perfect ice cream holder. Who would have thought ice cream could go in a doughnut? Not me, until I tried it out at this place! I was asleep during the car ride and everyone else wanted ice cream, so imagine my delight when I woke up here... The overall idea is so fantastically awesome but mind you this is a *bunch* of sugar in one go. Maybe if the doughnut is a little smaller... but who am I kidding. One larger drawback for me was the ever so slight taste of the Jasmine Milk Tea ice cream. If there was any distinct flavor it was completely annihilated between the taste of the doughnut and the mochi topping. Quality ice cream at a service station! When Hazel was here in Pasadena, we drove past this spot and noticed how unique this place is because it looks like an old fashioned gasoline station! Hazel said that she and her family have enjoyed some ice cream here, so Alana and I had it in our minds to return some day... That day, happily, arrived soon! We were looking for dessert and remembered that Afters in Pasadena was on our list... yay! Free parking and friendly service are always welcomed! The line moved quickly - this is a good thing for an outdoor kind of place. It's a tad bit chilly at night with only outside seating. However, we stood up the entire time so we could walk around and take photos of our beautiful ice cream! I got the horchata flavor because it's not so common in Hawaii. I also upgraded to a waffle cone (50 cents) and Afters flakes topping (caramelized crunchiness!) for a better picture... yay!
