We made a reservation here specifically due to their COVID procedures. They do not do ANY, not one thing of what they list here: https://afuri.us/covid19-procedures When we walked in, nothing was done other than pointing to a table 2 feet from the next table in a packed restaurant. When we asked the manager about it, she could not explain why the website was not accurate and said she couldn't do anything about it since the tables "have always been bolted to the ground". I always check in here when I'm in town. This time is very disappointing on the food and service. Afuri Izakaya Dinner reservation at 630pm on Saturday. #1 The waitress said they stopped serving anything izakaya now. Really! You are a izakaya restaurant. How do you manage not serving anything from that department on a weekend at prime time. #2 We ordered around the menu. The gyoza came to the table looking very pale in color and it didn't look crispy by any mean. The gyoza is soft to the touch and internal meat looked pink as well (but it's hard to say if it's pork). Anyway, this is just not the right kind of gyoza no matter you call it fusion or not. We returned this plate and the supervisor checked with sou chef and confirmed that's their gyoza. Ok. You can keep it then. #3 When my sake flight arrive, the waitress failed to explained probably about my flight. She seems to be in a hurry. #4 When the bottle of bubble arrived, it was presented in a hurry manner again. Bubbles supposed to be special. It felt none with this table service. He just want to pour everything out and grab the ice bucket and bottle to go asap. #5. The ramen for the night was a blur. The mood had gone south. In the end, my sashimi plate with sake is on point. Other than that, we decided to wrapped the night at Afuri and gone to another Japanese restaurant nearby to reSTART our celebration probably after $350 here. I love the pork based ramen. Spicy and consistently good. The sushi I get whenever I'm in the mood. Tried one today that was aged 21 days and it was surprisingly delicious. Forgot the name. No pics because we ate to quickly. I love the yuzu limaide but my friend son said it was too tart and not sweet. read more

I think there is a lot of potential but unfortunately I don't believe they delivered and I also feel the menu is designed to be confusing when it comes to some of the pricing. I would not recommend this business to family and friends. I ordered the Hazelnut Ramen which at its core was good but still just a little disappointing. I ordered mine without leek and mushroom and was definitely disappointed when they didn't offer any substitutions. Even if I had opted to get those items it would have been mostly just broth and noodle after looking at my partner's order which was almost exactly that. $15 seems like it should get you a little more than just a bowl of noodle. Otherwise it was tasty for what it was. The hazelnut broth is quite good. I also ordered a bottle of sake which is where the pricing is, for lack of a better word, shady. There are 3 prices next to each item and the menu does not denote what exactly you get for each price. I made the logical assumption that the highest price was for the biggest size, a bottle. Well apparently they have that price in a different place on the menu which seemed like a common mistake people make as the waiter made it seem like this is a common issue. The price I paid was double what I saw on the menu. Seriously disappointing and by design too. I mean I couldn't make a menu more vague than theirs if I tried which leads me to believe it's by design. I honestly believe I read the menu carefully because it struck me as being vague while I was going through it. Now I wonder if that price was even listed and I ask myself why the waiter didn't clarify if this is indeed a common issue. The food menu wasn't particularly helpful either as I found myself defaulting to YELP and pouring through pictures to try and figure out exactly what the items on the menu were. Afuri Izakaya has wonderful cocktail list and quality ingredients. Their yuzu ramen is the staple dish. Sushi is good quality too however some food items make your head scratch a bit. Is it really worth paying $$$ for soggy dumplings? It's a great spot for date nights and it is Instagram-able. Overall experience is great and staff are very friendly. Afuri used to be better, but now the quality of food has really suffered. Ramen broth is somehow both bland and burnt. The sushi rolls are also small and not worth the price. Very disappointing. We will likely not be coming back or recommending to others. read more

I would say my overall experience here was below average. The ramen was different which was nice. I thought the yuzu shio broth was unique and the noodles and (half of an) egg were delicious and perfectly cooked but the lack of toppings kinda made it boring. The pork belly was really overcooked and tough. We also ordered a couple of appetizers to share between the 6 of us. Here's where it starts to go downhill... the server said their "special" was 6 pieces so we decided to get it since there were 6 of us. She came back with a plate of 5 so we called her over to check if we heard her correctly. She confirmed that she DID in fact say 6 and apparently the kitchen just randomly cuts the roll up? And some tables get 6 but they cut ours into 5 pieces? She said "it's still the same amount of fish" but ???? what were we supposed to do with 5 pieces and 6 people. Super weird that the kitchen doesn't have a standardized amount they cut. And it totally sucks that they didn't do anything to fix their mistake which forced one person in our group to split their piece. My other friends who sat at the table next to us were also missing pieces from their carpaccio and they did not fix that mistake either. Then, when we got the rest of the food, they forgot an egg for one of the ramen. Lastly, one of my friends wanted to use the bathroom and the person that was cleaning it was so rude to her! Overall, the kitchen seems inconsistent and they don't fix their mistakes. I normally don't complain about service since I go to restaurants for the food but it does bug me when the not-so-great service affects the food. I love the food and atmosphere. I have been coming to all the Afuri locations since they've opened up. Been a huge fan. However, not a fan of their current hostess with dark medium length hair. Either she is very distracted and/or she is racist. I have been seated by her a couple times since visiting this Beaverton location. Ironic, since Afuri is a Japanese restaurant chain from Japan. Even with a reservation, in the middle of helping us, she made us wait a good (5-10 mins) by chatting up other guests of Caucasian decent. I kid you not, a waitress had to come up to us to see if we have been helped but due to our politeness we said we were already being helped. Hostess needs to be retrained or have some common courtesy. Definitely ruined my night. read more

I came here for dinner 6/6/21, and the experience was truly appalling. I live in southern California and came to portland to visit my sister whom I havent seen in a really long time. We (a party of 3) came to this restaurant to have a nice dinner, but our server made that impossible. Our server was a young caucasian woman with bleached blond hair, and she really couldnt care less about her customers or her job it seems. We ordered 3 ramens, but she only put down 2. We ordered 2 beers and ended up ordering one more at last call, but she brought out 2. She didnt check up on us at all during the meal, and when we asked for a to go box for our leftover gyoza, she threw the box on the table and left. I dont know if she's like this to all of her tables or if she's a racist and does not like asians. All I know is that this is the worst service I've ever received at a restaurant, and had I been the one to pay the bill, I wouldnt have tipped her a single cent. read more

As the cold raining days return to Oregon, it was a perfect (cloudy rain drizzling) day for ramen. I've only previously had Afuri near the old town location, so this is the first visit for Beaverton. Arrived just before noon on Friday, there were plenty of seats available. (the place got pretty filled up by 1). Staff were friendly, went through the menu since this was my friend's first visit to Afuri. I enjoyed the Yuzu Shio, which has a light and citrusy broth, and the perfect noodle pairing for it. The egg was done the right way, with the center still soft/liquidity. Cha shu meat was cooked perfectly, with a good portion of lean and fat. The miso cashew gyoza was unique and unheard of before, the taste was fine, balanced but nothing stands out, I would go for the pork filling next time. The negima was very juicy (chicken thigh), sweet but just right, it's nice to have proper yakitori available on the Westside of town. Overall a great experience, and I love the additional offering of variety comparing to other ramen spots (I guess it is a izakaya after all.) I will return! read more

Great place to go for work lunch- clean, quick, presentable, solid service. Tsukemen was beautifully plated and really was not that spicy so I'd give it a try as long as you have a tiny bit of spice tolerance. If you're nervous, tell them to exclude the chili powder. I really wanted to love this place. The atmosphere and aesthetic is clean and crisp. However, the food is pretty terrible. Here is why I think so. Karage: the chicken itself wasn't too bad. The sauce that came with it was disturbing. It had consistency of cole slaw there were chunks of ... what appeared to look like soggy noodles? It was a hot mess. Sushi "Rolls": okay, these were not "Rolls" they were MAKI style. There was about 6 small pieces. I ordered the Una-kyu. There was barely any unagi and they didn't put any sauce. It was dry. Ramen: the noodles were very al dente. It tasted like something out of a box/frozen noodles. The broth had color but oddly no flavor. It's $2 for a whole egg which the yolk was some show grossly sweet. Overall, the food taste like people working there are just getting by and there is no real passion behind the food. This has been a favorite spot for me ever since the Beaverton location opened up, and this summer especially Afuri Beaverton has been the go to restaurant for me with friends, family, and co-workers. I've been meaning to write a review for a while now, not just for the great food and drinks but for the AMAZING, amazing service. I'm obsessed with the tsukemen, karage, and potstickers (done traditionally, with the crispy layer at the bottom!!), but more than that, I'm so grateful for the staff there and the service they've always provided. It's incredibly taxing working in the restaurant industry especially in the last two years, but the staff here are attentive, warm, funny, and always on point with the drink and food suggestions!! The manager comes out to check in on your experience, and honestly the wait staff are always so kind. And based off of other reviews, I did want to note that my friends, family, and I are all POC (and we definitely look it haha!), and we don't know any of the staff on a personal level, only as customers. But from my first visit I've never felt anything short of extremely welcomed, and wanted to give a shout out to the team at Afuri during these tough times!! Thank you guys so much :) read more

I would come back for the ramen it's just how I like my ramen. Karaage fried chicken was tasty. Sauce was tasty. About as good or better than syun in Hillsboro. Rolls were pretty basic and expensive but man do they have a lot of people working here no wonder it's priced high. I think I would pick Syun in Hillsboro for sushi. I would come here for ramen again. Also like the ambience of syun in Hillsboro better but AFURI feels clean just the acoustics from all the smooth surfaces make it kind of noisy for my taste and not very intimate. read more

We ordered over 100 dollars worth of food (2 orders gyoza, 7 different rolls including 2 specialty rolls, and one order of ramen) and it was not enough for our family of 4. I've been to AFURI in Japan many times and purchased their instant ramen at 7-Eleven in Tokyo as well. I certainly consider myself an AFURI fan and a ramen enthusiast/connoisseur in general. I have no idea why the reviews are so bad for this location. The taste is spot on. It tastes like real AFURI in Japan but without the 11 hour flight and train ride, jet lag, waiting at the gate, etc. I'd say, get the ramen and avoid the sushi. It's weird that they serve sushi at all--sushi and ramen don't go together. My wife was in the mood for sushi so we made that mistake and got a Chirashi-don and for some reason the sashimi and sushi rice were separated vs together the way it's supposed to be. I didn't try it but she said the taste was "just okay" which is not what you want to hear after spending $28... Again, get the ramen, especially Yuzu Shio, and stay away from sushi and you'll enjoy your meal for sure. read more

I tried the yuzu ratan ramen. I liked the yuzu flavor and spiciness. The noodles weren't chewy like ramen noodles normally are, they tasted like soba noodles so I didn't like them. Also, it was pretty simple and didn't have a lot of garnish like ramen usually does. I got it delivered (cause COVID) and was pleasantly surprised by the reheating instructions. However, it neglected to mention it would be smart to take out the egg so the soft boiled egg became hard boiled. I also got an order of the karaage, which was fine. We had a delicious meal here. A little spendy but this was a treat for us to eat out for a nice lunch and the restaurant made us feel very comfortable seating everyone far from each other and very clean. Appetizers, we had the chicken karaage, and buta gyoza both very good with amazing sauces. I had the sake roll which was very fresh and with real crab, so good. My partner had the Kara tsuykemen which had a perfect level of spice for us. The dish came cold which surprised us but was delicious all the same. When we looked we realized you could order noodles warm or cold but were not asked. We also had the whiskey flight that wa expensive and not really worth it for us for the four small tastings but we feel we had a delicious meal with wonderful service and will definitely be coming back! Afuri is an amazing restaurant with talented staff that just happens to be burdened by a manager that lacks any modicum of basic human decency. I understand that its expected to wait for a meal. We placed our order, quickly received drinks and appetizers and then...waited. ​ We waited for 30 minutes after our appetizer dishes had been carried away before we finally asked about our order, after which we were told it was next up. Which would have been perfectly fine, if it wasn't delivered to us by the manager herself, who let us know that we should be grateful our order was fulfilled at all, because we asked if it was possible to add extra vegetables, and that in the future they would not accept requests like this. Okay. That could have been something we were told immediately after placing the order, rather than making us wait an hour while they deliberated whether they could spare an extra mushroom and carrot. ​ I cannot fathom who thinks it's appropriate to berate customers upon serving them, especially when it turns out the only reason they had to wait such an extensive time was that they could not communicate in a quick and respectful way. Is that a winning play for getting returning customers? I look forward to returning when this location gets better management. read more

The ramen broth was luke warm, the noodles were stiff, and the portions were small (1/2 egg, and one slice of pork). It wasn't terrible but there are far better places for ramen in the area. I know we're in the middle of a pandemic and they are being cautious by using paper plates... but after paying over $100 for just a few pieces on a paper plate with dried nigiri rice was a huge turn off. The food there is dedicated but small portion. The service is not as what I expect. We were about 10 mins late for our 6pm reservation due to parking, and were waiting at the front door to be seated. The host told us because you are late the next available table will be 7:30. However, it is explicitly state 15 minute grey period if you cannot make it on time while I made the reservation on Open Table. Thus, i showed to the host and she has a bad attitude, and led us to the table. Apparently, there are more than 2 tables available but she refused me to take us at the first time. This place is always busy and really need to train the employees for what Japanese restaurant service is like. read more

I posted a picture of the Chirashi Don I got on our first visit. It was wonderful. The second time we ordered it there was one less piece of fish and no crab or spicy tuna. To start, The service was great. Servers and hostess were nice and was very attentive. The restaurant was beautiful and the ambiance was good. The Nigri quality was amazing. The drinks were amazing. The ramen was underwhelming in the sense that the ramen didn't have a good amount of flavor. I was looking for a clean flavor, but the shio in my opinion was close to bland. We expected the ratan to be spicy, but it was underwhelming in spice and the flavor was mostly just sour. If you're used to a flavorful ramen this would not be the place to go. If I could give this place a ZERO I would! Horrible service! We walked in when they opened for dinner and they put us on a waitlist for 1.5 hours. We waited for 1.5 hours and were 1st on the waitlist, then walked back in to check the status of our wait time and then the hostess told us they will not serve us for the rest of the evening due to high amounts of reservations, after we already waited 1.5 hours. If this was the case, they should've said that when we first walked in and put our name down for the waitlist or texted us to inform us earlier. They did not even offer us bar seating and after waiting for 1.5 hours, the "reserved" tables were still open. Waste of time since our family drove out of town to come to this restaurant! Very disappointed and we nor our family/friends will ever return here. This place is a joke! Don't waste your time. read more
