3.5 Stars Salted limeade was meh, something kinda off about it. The FOB Frites were good, not great. Might be better to serve the beef on top of the fries so they soak the delicious gravy. The taste of the semi-tender beef is reminiscent of Bo Luc Lac, not sure if that's what they're after. Overall, it satisfied. Same owners as NE but so different. I ordered lemongrass chicken and made a comment about this isn't spicy at your other location so I assume it's not spicy. The waiter said he didn't think so. Well it turned out to be pretty spicy as they have jalapeño peppers in the dish. Luckily my friends had ordered some other dishes that had fried chicken on a salad or the satay that weren't spicy so we traded some. We had many appetizers and most were finished so I think overall people were happy with the food outside of my spicy chicken. We sat outside and they do take reservations so that was nice but not needed on a Tuesday night. I will add that it seemed very quiet and yet it did take much longer for the food than we expected especially compared to NE. At least 45 minutes so be prepared. read more

Okay so I am obsessed with everything these women do, Allouette was a beautiful place to dine and FK2 is an incredible next chapter. FK2 brings everything great about Friendship Kitchen into a space with indoor seating and a classed up vibe. The signature dishes here are wonderful - Order the Laksa if you want to go on a flavor journey. I love Laksa and theirs may be the best I've had. They also have some great choices to spoil yourself with, like the curry crab dish. My partner and I got this last time we went to celebrate our anniversary and we were in seafood HEAVEN. This location is still a work in progress, in the best of ways. We can count on them to continue innovating with the menu to figure out what works best and I am so excited to see what they have in store. I had takeout from here just two days ago and was floored by how amazing it all tasted even after the food traveling from Portland to Tacoma!!! I had the shaken tofu (MY FAVORITE DISH) and their vegan wonton noodle soup. The tofu was seasoned to PERFECTION! The vegan wonton with impossible meat is also now mine and my boyfriend's favorite dish. The meat was so well seasoned, we forgot it was vegan. The entire vegan wonton noodle soup is such a comfort meal, truly can't get enough. I didn't even mention how generous their portions are!!! Oh my goodness! I just had the best pho in my whole life here! Granted, I haven't been to Vietnam so maybe it could be better there, but face it- we're talking Portland here. I asked the guy behind the counter service counter what the difference was between the northern pho and the classic pho. The northern pho has a tomato and red wine base (maybe from the French influence in Vietnamese cuisine). I opted for that and boy am I glad I did! The broth had such a rich depth of flavor that basic or "classic" pho doesn't have. The beef was so velvety tender! Some pho has really...well...creepy meat. If it's not creepy it's tough, or stringy or chewy. But not here! It was soooo good!! I felt a little sorry (not sorry) for my husband who ordered the vegan pho. I tasted the broth. It wasn't bad. It had a hint of sesame. I'm sure all the vegans out there would love it. (They don't know what they're missing! Haha!) My husband isn't a vegan. In fact, he loves beef. So I tried not to swoon too much in front of him. There are lots of other yummy-looking dishes on the menu that might be fun to try. But then I couldn't have the northern pho. Sigh... Formerly Alouette, FK NW is located in the same space and is the second iteration of Friendship Kitchen & the menu features dishes I would personally eat on a regular basis. The cuisine is Vietnamese & Singaporean inspired, a cross between owners & partners Trang Nguyen's & Wei-En Tan's heritages. Mama's Laksa was my fave! It's a coconut milk based curry noodle soup with shrimp, tofu, soft-boiled egg, bean sprouts, fishballs, rice noodles & a slick of chile oil floating on top. It's a robust in flavor - savory with a touch of sweet, creamy, and seafood forward. Very comforting & perfect on a rainy day and came out piping hot. My husband also really liked the Shaken Beef which had good flavor. The Crazy Rich Asians cocktail is almost too pretty to drink with gorgeous edible glitter floating throughout the glass. Love the lychee flavor in the drink! The service was also good. The server and bartender were both very nice and down to earth. I will definitely come back to try more dishes! read more

My partner and I came in for a late lunch (~3pm) on a weekday. There was almost no one else here and we ordered the nasi lemak and the vegan wonton soup. Service: it was OK, especially when it was so quiet. The coats of the two people at our neighboring table fell on the floor, and it took me telling the diners about their coats on the floor for the wait staff to step in and ask if they wanted to hang up their coats. I expected better. Nasi lemak: not bad; the sauce (sambal? I don't know SE Asian cooking very well) was delicious, the anchovies and pickles added contrasting texture and lightness to the rice (cooked with coconut? pandan? wasn't entirely sure), the fried chicken was decent though perhaps slightly under seasoned. I'm no expert on SE Asian cooking, but it seemed authentic to the streets of Malaysia based on my limited knowledge. Wonton soup: I was surprised that the impossible meat did as good of a job at mimicking the usual pork/shrimp filling! Texture/flavor both on point, soup was light (though very reminiscent of what I would call "MSG soup" of water/MSG/lard/green onions common in Asian street food), overall pretty good, and I will especially commend them for how well the impossible meat filling worked out. Here's the reason for the 2-stars: there were flies everywhere, we kept swatting away the flies while we ate INDOORS on a chilly JANUARY day - why are there so many flies? Is this part of the full street food experience? Flies in the bathrooms too - is this a health code violation? They were not small fruit flies - either they were giant fruit flies, or they were actual flies, kind of hard to tell since we kept swatting them away. Something I would've been OK with eating outside on a summer day, but not like this. Price: a little pricy for what felt like street food that didn't get "elevated" - it was an edifying experience, the food was pretty decent, but felt a little overpriced (at the time of dining, it was $18 for the vegan wonton soup and $21 for the nasi lemak). Would we be back? Not with the fly infestation - the food was good enough that we'd be interested in coming back to experience more things, but only after the fly situation gets under control. read more

Why? Service There were two waitstaff that night. Not sure what was the problem with ONE of them. His tone of voice was on the defense all night. Our food came out in parts because there was a large group ahead of us which we understood but after we ate about half our main meal, we still haven't seen any sign of the chili crab noodles. I thought maybe I forgot to actually put the order in so I inquired with the one of wait staff. His response began with "I don't know. I didn't take your order." I mean... was that necessary? But he did check on it and it came out. A few minutes later, we attempted to move the bowl with the crab utensils/bib to the next open table over to make some room in front of us. The same waitstaff basically denied us. His response was something along the lines of this being his routine that he needed to prep in case other people come. It was 8:30pm. There was no one sitting outside except us and no wait lines. What's your problem? I still tipped 20% but that will be the last time I'm coming and likely will not recommend. read more

Loved the creativity of the menu, especially for vegan and gluten free options. This 2nd location of Friendship Kitchen is very similar to the first location on NE Glisan. It has delicious food, and it is "counter service" so you go up to the central counter and order and then they bring it to you. This location was just brought converted from the previous Aloutte- owned by the same PDX Power couple. The menu and food choice is a little different than the Primary location, but it is just as delicious. When I was there last weekend, I ordered the Shaken Tofu it had the perfect balance of lemongrass and spice and with the rice, it was Devine. I ate every single bite! We also ordered some veggie salad rolls with tofu skins in the inside- it was very satisfying. I'm glad they opened a 2nd location of Friendship Kitchen. read more
