Usually when I choose restaurants it's either by word of mouth or Yelp Reviews and typically I have a great experience. This place only gets 3 stars from me. We arrived at 4:30 and there was one customer in the restaurant . The hostess asks if we have a reservation- no. She the n proceeds to say she will seat us, but we must vacate the table by 7. I know that it will not take me that long to eat ramen. It felt rather unwelcoming and unnecessary to even say that. The ambiance in the place is beautiful. Clean and modern. Beautiful bar and kitchen that is visible. Love their playlist choice of music. We ordered the sake roll and it lacked flavor. I was hoping for more crab or king salmon, but tasted the cucumber and lemon more. I ordered the Yusu Shio their signature ramen. There was a sliver of pork and the broth was ok. The Yuzu Ratan was spicier, but again a sliver of meat. We have had better ramen. We also ordered dessert which was the most disappointing! The puff pastry was old. This is our first time trying this location. The first time we tried it was downtown and it was very good but we only had appetizers. Today we tried the TONKOTSU TANTANMEN Ramen and also the Buta Goyza potstickers along with the Karaage fried chicken thighs. The food was delicious and the service was great. First off, every server had tunnel vision. Front of house did not acknowledge us until 10 minutes of waiting before checking us in. During our dinner outside, not one person checked up on us. We ordered the crispy buta gyoza, agedashi tofu, aburi koro chashu don, and ninniku shoyu ramen. The gyoza was pretty oily, but the filling pretty juicy. The chilli paste was the star of the dish. The agedashi tofu was ok, the crispness from the corn starch has soften from the broth it was sitting in. The chashu don was paired with mushy sushi rice and grated radish. Which made the whole dish one texture and not well balanced. Lastly, the ramen was the best dish of the night. The noodles were well cooked. However, it was lacking a note to the broth and the chashu was a little tough still. I would consider ordering other things. read more

Came in with two others on 3/24, we ordered ramen, karaage and tuna roll. The ramen was very ok. That's all I can say about it, it meets the definition of ramen but it was just very bland - thankfully the others enjoyed it a little bit more, although at the start one of them mentioned a weird mechanical/ oily flavor to her ramen but she said she isn't picky,  you can find much tastier ramen elsewhere for cheaper. The Karaage was very strange, it tasted like uncooked flour with a sour lemon flavor mixed in with a thicker batter. I also ordered a full portion of it, not an appetizer and it was four bites and a chip of karaage. four 1/2 pieces for the full portion. It came with an egg salad that was in a container so small I legitimately confused it for a dipping sauce. I've had small portions of food in fine dining restaurants, but this container was so unusually small, not much bigger than your finger and thumb making a circle together. The first bite of the tuna roll was just okay as well, but the rest hardly had any tuna you wouldn't be able to tell you were eating a tuna roll. It tasted mostly of carrot and other vegetables put into the roll.. It wasn't bad, but it tasted like a roll I can just pick up at any random grocery store. The atmosphere felt more like a hip dance club or bar than a Japanese restaurant, with electronic music rumbling so hard it was hard to enjoy having a conversation or relaxing. I'm not really sure who this place caters to, but if you want decent or authentic Japanese food I would look elsewhere - this place is too expensive for the quality of food you receive unfortunately. Super friendly and helpful staff, quick and savory food with a nice, clean vibe. We sat on the patio and each got a drink and a main dish. It was a rich dish with an aioli that was to die for. I'm not a mushroom person but let me tell you, I think I'm a shroom lover now.. not the kind you're thinking of but the AFURI kind 3. Nasu: the smoked eggplant with ginger, DELICIOUS. But I wouldn't get it again, not a big gal 4. Shishito: it tasted like a grilled/smoked shishito pepper but a million times better. Just try it and thank me later!! 5. Saba Shioyaki: holy mackerel. This is a whole meal on its own okay.. like don't try to be kind and share it. You need this for yourself. For the main meal: I got the yuzu ratan, which is their spiciest ramen. It usually comes with chashu pork, I asked for no pork. Chicken broth usually doesn't have much flavor, I was concerned it would have more of a pho like broth. I was WRONG. I think a bowl on its own was definitely shareable! So splurge on the apps and get a ramen to share. How romantic is that. I am totally go back to try the sushi. Oh and did I mention they have an outdoor patio? So I ordered another egg plant robata for the lady. Paid for it too. Proper customer service, would have been make another egg plant on the house! It's cheap to make anyway! We've long been customers or Afuri and have been to all the Portland locations and always enjoyed it. However, tonight's experience in Beaverton was extremely disappointing. Our waiter told us that no modifications to the menu were possible, no exceptions. Things as simple as putting a sauce on the side (karaage) or holding the mayo on the chicken tostada (see picture) - denied. The sauce and mayo are put on the plate or drizzled over the food - how difficult is it to omit those steps or put the sauces in a small dish on the side? I would understand if the sauce was pre-mixed with a vital ingredient, but this? Blatant disregard for customer preferences. Since I am the one paying, I will not be back. There are plenty of great Japanese restaurants in town that will gladly accommodate a customer. I'd give minus 5 starts for customer service if I could. read more

2 stars for the broth because that was the best thing about my bowl of ramen... I honestly was super disappointed after not eating all day and saw all the pictures about it and the good reviews. First off I felt like they're a bit stingy with the toppings. Usually places give you the whole egg but they gave me HALF?? The pork belly roll was the thickness of my nails, they sliced it like they would salami on sandwiches. And worse of all the noodles felt like they weren't really cooked through so it felt like eating hair.. the broth was the only redeeming part but I don't think I've ever left food in my bowl without taking it home before, I couldn't even finish it :(( staffs were nice though. read more

Wow, this is one of the best ramen we've ever had. The color, texture and flavor of the ramen noodle is phenomenal, you will want to keep eating more once you try it. I would eat the ramen noodle plain, it is that good! We ordered: Asari Shoyu 10/10 good, the Shoyu broth is clear and offers rich sweet soy sauce aroma, paired with perfectly cooked tender chashu pork and clams, perfection! Tonkotsu Tantanmen: 10/10 good. The red and thick soup gives the ramen a creamy stew-like texture, the spicy and salty flavor compliments the chewy ramen noodle and minced pork very very well. The servers and staff are very very very friendly, welcoming and sweet. Came to check on us often, easy to talk to, made our whole dining experience very pleasant and special. Thank you all so much!! The flavors were also very good. My sashimi roe was a flavor explosion and some of the other pieces were nested in between lemons, leaving a great, subtle flavor. We have had takeout from Afuri a few times but this was our first time dining outside at the restaurant. The tables are clean and spaced out so you are socially distant from others. We were starving and got a few different things and everything was amazing. We got the Karaage, vegetable roll, inari , miso cashew gyoza dumplings and the hazelnut tantamen. Everything tasted delicious and the service was wonderful. We also got two cocktails and they were delicious as well. I've been to a few Afuri locations but first time eating at the Beaverton location. I was hesitant to eat here due to the reviews but thought "how bad can it be?" I have to say that I will not be returning. I had the tonkotsu tantanmen, sake roll and spicy hamachi roll for dinner. The food was overly priced and the quality of the sushi was below par. They really skimp out on the fish in the sake roll. The spicy hamachi roll was a little better but I can't justify the price for a mid sushi roll. I love afuris yuzu ramen since they're not too heavy! The yuzu really adds a light flavor to the broth and the toppings are always great. The ramen egg was seasoned and cooked perfectly too which is always important for me! I just wish their portions were a bit bigger cuz I'm always hungry after finished my bowl. It's the food quality that I feel like that needs to be diversified. Some bonuses to this place are its amazing management, staff, great COVID regulations, and hooded seating. Some cons are the flavor palette of the noodles. Both the yuzu shoyu and the yuzu shio were not one of their best hits. The noodles are very thick, and the broth has very vibrant ginger and lemon flavors (not a good way). My friends who got the pork and beef ramen were definitely more pleased. I'm kicking off my birthday week/month, which means I'll be enjoying eating out with family and friends. Started the festivities at Afuri tonight. I always love coming here. We started with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir by Ruby Vineyards Laurelwood, a nice compliment to our meal. We started with the Miso Cashew Gyoza - simple, light and full of flavor and texture. We shared several rolls for our main course. The Bincho sushi roll (I forgot a pic) was a lighter roll with scallions, an apple and Kaiware. We also had the Sake sashimi - an excellent staple to any meal here that is fresh and compliments any other roll. Lastly, we added a Nigiri flight from the chef. This was a combination of 5 pieces. We forgot all the selection but enjoyed them all. I always love the presentation of the dishes at Afuri. My girlfriend and I had a lovely evening together. Our server wasn't always able to check on us as much as we needed but it was a busy night. We were fine as we were enjoying our food and time together. The weather was lower temps today in Portland and it was cooler inside the restaurant that was comfortable but then again we've had crazy weather lately. read more

We had a pleasant dining experience here. It was an open kitchen, so it was noisy, but we didn't mind. The music playlist was awesome. The host and wait staff were all attentive and friendly. My husband Hazelnut Tantanmen. I tried some of it and enjoyed the rich, creamy broth. For myself, I ordered a bunch of little plates. I was highly impressed with the Housemade Tofu. It was silky and presented beautifully. The Miso Cashew Gyoza was good. The Ninjin (carrot yakitore) and Baby Gem (romaine wrapped in pork belly yakitore) were great. I would get both of them again. And the dessert, I ordered the apple one. Definitely would get that again. It was so delicately sweet and tart. The only thing to stay away from is Ume Shiso. It's a pickled plum sushi roll. It is so pickled tart. It's like a dozen limes concentrated into a tiny sushi roll. I took one bite and told myself I had to consume it first because I didn't want to end my dining experience with that taste in my mouth. After eating all six of them, my mouth felt like it had a raw cut from the pickled plum. Overall, I would recommend. The majority of what I ordered was great. One was a miss. And another was so-so.
