The best pet of my visit was the chips/salsa and beer. The bar service was average at best. I had street tacos and a side of black beans. The chicken was way too salty and the beans were barely warm. This location has great staff and service as well as food and drinks! It can get pretty busy, especially on concert nights, but other nights of the week there's usually seating pretty quick and the food is very affordable. I've never had a bad meal here, or a bad margarita! The food always comes out hot and fast and the servers check in and refill drinks when you need it. This will always be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Charleston. I usually get the fish tacos and love the sauce they use! read more

I love this spot. They definitely have plates that are suited to fit the needs of Americans down south, but they have plenty of authentic plates as well. I love that I can order vegetarian and not have to settle for the boring old mushroom dishes that many other places offer when you try to eat vegetarian. Their nopales tacos are delicious -- cactus leaves! It resembles green peppers. One day they truly hooked it up for me when I asked for vegan enchiladas (I can't have dairy) and served up some spinach, bell pepper, tomato, potato, enchiladas, smothered in salsa verde. Sooo good. Full confessional - I come here often, love the food, and totally forget to take pics every time! Maybe next time . . . Happy hour specials are the norm for a mexican place but their draft selection is slightly better than most. The service is great, even when it's very busy. Seats at the bar are often harder to get than tables, but they have ample seating and rarely have a wait. Everything I've had is good. Molcajete is great to share, or even as an appetizer for a group. Love the enchiladas verde, the fajitas, quesadillas, chimichangas and the freshness of the food. Keto? No problem, lots of entrees come with two sides and one of the options is mixed vegetables. Salsa is fresh and actually has flavor. If you like it hot, ask for the homemade tomatillo hot sauce and ease into it - it's the real deal. Like grilled or fresh jalapenos on the side? They do that too! Looks like they are renovating their outdoor seating area, so I'll definitely be back when that's done to check it out. It was fine before, but I see new structures and I'm hoping for an outdoor bar. Only negative is that it's loud during peak hours. The heavy wood furniture, leatherish booths, and lack of soft goods really amps up the sound. I just went in for the first time and ordered a skinny marg. I asked for the bill and it said two margs. $32.95 I said to the waitress that I only ordered one her response was well we put two shots of tequila in the drink and I said why didn't someone tell me that she said well that's how we make them. That is outrageous! I did not order food there because the restaurant bar smelled musty. So be aware I left there and went over to VIVA got a drink and two enchiladas for $27.80. Casual date night with my wife. We decided on Agave because we had other plans on Daniel Island and we were in the mood for Mexican. The restaurant was almost empty. The atmosphere was more of a sports bar. The menu was large and chaotic so make sure that you study it a bit. Our waiter was really really great so that was the highlight of the evening. The food was bland. Sad to say like most local Mexican eateries. We love calamari and always try it wherever we go. Please don't order it. Worst we ever had. So when you are on the island and need a quick bite I would say go. It's not bad. And it's not good. It's just ok. Just like this review. I'm sounding like the three little bears aren't I. Coming from LA and being in Charleston for work was hard finding good places to eat. This place satisfied the Mexican food craving I had. The sope needed to be cooked a little more since it was a bit soft and didn't hold up well. But the flavor was good and the service was great. Wow! What a great place to eat and cocktail before a DMB show!!! Alberto was professional, friendly, and fast! We moved last August from the West coast and have been very disappointed with "SC Mexican" that we have tried so far. You think being in the middle of Charleston's food Mecca, there would be more of a selection. AGAVE'S ROCKS!!! You can always tell if you're at a great spot by the salsa and tamales. No tamales here but it might not be an offering on a busy day. Their salsa is quite good with a balanced cilantro, lime, and salt finish with a bite! We had the Pick 3 and Veggie quesadilla. Both were outstanding! The ladies room was beautiful and clean as well. We sat on the patio but their was no music...maybe put on a pre-party concert to get the crowd excited? I'd begin by saying the food was good and that's the only reason why they're getting 2 stars. It felt like everything was completely disorganized. The servers didn't seem to have sections as our server seemed to be running around the entire restaurant but there were 3 other servers who were waiting on tables next to us and wouldn't even look at us as we tried to waive them down. This is unfortunate as it felt like all of these servers were around except ours and we were completely ignored. At one point I waived my hands around and I even yelled loudly excuse me to a waiter to get his attention. I know he heard me as other tables heard me so he totally ignored me. I am not sure if this applies for every server but it is not good customer service to say to any customer rudely, "I am busy, what else do you need?" We ordered steak fajitas. The steak was cut so thinly, it looks like spaghetti noodles. The steak was extremely over cooked and burnt. They only give you two flour tortilla for the fajitas, which is not nearly enough. We asked for more tortillas and our waiter acted like this was an inconvenienced. The cheese dip was the only thing decent that we had. Agave's has quickly become my go to spot for Mexican food; after all it is the only Mexican restaurant on Daniel Island. The food at Agave's is comparable to most decent Mexican restaurants and the prices are decent, unlike other restaurants here on the island. So far I've tried their taco salad, steak fajitas, fajita quesadillas, and of course queso dip; my favorites being the queso dip and fajita quesadilla. Agave's has the best prices on the island when it comes to drinks; they make a decent margarita and have an OK selection of beer on tap and in the bottle. It's a great place for happy hour to grab a brew with chips, salsa, and queso with a group of friends. The service here is pretty good; the bartenders and servers have always been super friendly and helpful. read more

Having wanted to come here since they opened about a year ago, I was disappointed overall by our experience. For starters, the dining room of Agave's is designed in a very contemporary and interesting way (especially around the bar). I liked the feel of the place a lot. There was also some outdoor seating on the patio which was cool although we ended up sitting inside. The food, however, was a mixed bag. My dad, for instance, found his meal very bland (especially compared to a Mexican restaurant in West Ashley that is our typical go to for Mexican). The chips were ok (a little thicker than I prefer) but the salsa was extremely weak and uninteresting. I actually did like my Seafood Chimichanga (with grilled shrimp, scallops, green peppers, and onions). As sides for that, I ordered Choro Beans (awesome) and also Mexican potatoes (very bland - actually looked better on the plate than it actually was). My Horni Margarita (with Triple Sec, a splash of cranberry juice, and a few other ingredients) was really good as well. As far as our waiter goes, we haven't had someone as inattentive as him in a really long time. We eventually would get what we wanted (i.e. a refill, the check) but only after long periods of time had elapsed. He also seemed insincere and hurried. Admittedly, it didn't help that we were seated at one of the furthest tables around a corner but that shouldn't excuse the terrible service we received the entire time. All in all, I'm not sure if I'll ever go back there after tonight's disappointments. read more

I have to admit based on reviews I almost went to Wasabi.. they were both close to each other. I'm so glad I picked Agave's. For several reasons: 1- yes, it's kind of hidden but parking is ample. 2- they have a good HH drink deal, and the Texas margarita is definitely worth the extra $2 from the $4 house HH Margarita. I got the size small for $6, comes in a pint glass, a good amount... can't imagine what size the large is!! The small was large to me ;-) 3- Friendly staff 4- lots of food choices, and they will happily substitute: like for instance a cup of soup option over buying a big bowl and subbing rice for beans etc etc. 5- chips & salsa are FREE and DELICIOUS!
