Unfortunately, no longer can recommend my go-to place. I needed a tire patch months ago, and just discovered that they performed the temporary string patch. I could've done that myself but knew that it was temporary and wanted a real tire patch. Very OK!! I came for an oil change for my car, I was quoted around $80 and then ended up paying around $95 because he said my car needed synthetic oil. Almost same day service? Don is awesome! My family has been going to Agnew Auto for years! I come here for my oil changes, smog checks, brake replacements, and overall maintenance. Don is so kind and personable (I started taking my parents cars as soon as i started driving in 2009 and he still remembers who they are and asks how they're doing ^_^) The prices are great, they have honest and reliable service, the staff is kind, the wait times are reasonable considering how busy they are. Don is terrible. Do not trust this man. He is very rude, Had an appointment to take our car in. Our car just sat there all day as Don did nothing to it at all. A courtesy call to even say he can't do it would be nice. But nah this guy just let my car sit all day. No call no follow up. Just pure unprofessionalism. He did the oil change and put conventional motor oil on my truck. I ask him about synthetic oil and he said conventional is recomended by manufacture. This was my first time going to see Don my experience couldn't be better. He is a great guy, fast and honest. I used to go to Bruce's Tire for 15 years but a couple of bad experiences made me look for someplace else. My friend has been going to Agnew for years and I finally decided to try them. I needed to get my brakes replaced and an oil change. Bruce's Tire told me I needed to replace all my rotors as well as my shocks. Needless to say, I was shocked. My car is only 4 years old. Bought it new. When I went to Agnew they told me my shocks are fine and so are my rotors. On top of that, I only had to replace the front brakes. Not all four like Bruce's said. Needless to say, I will continue to go to Agnew and even though I live in SF now, it's worth the drive to me to see Don and his great staff. read more

I've always brought my car to Agnew auto care for my oil changes. I bring my own oil because it is not stock there and it must be specially ordered. Don always was willing to change my oil and filter. This time, he said he doesn't change oil if you bring your own. Then he said he would do it for $38. I said it was $20 last time. He said, "I could charge you $40." He was very rude. I asked if he arbitrarily just made up prices and he said if you don't like it go somewhere else and then hung up on me. Extremely rude service. Apparently, he is now too big for his britches and no longer cares how he treats is regular customers. I'm looking for a new auto repair service. read more

Apparently these guys are parts changers, since I called to ask about having a pre purchase inspection performed, fully expecting to pay $100-$300 to have them go through a car I'm looking at buying only to be told that "we don't do inspections". I just wanted them to look for leaks and take a look at the underbody but I guess that's too complicated? I'd understand if they were busy and couldn't do it today, but just telling me no for an inspection is worth a bad review. read more

I've been using Agnew Auto since 2015. They are always honest, show me exactly what on my car they are working on, don't upsell, and actually have told me what services I DON'T need at that time. I'm never treated like I don't understand or know cars- even with some language barriers he manages to show and explain in a way that is thorough and in no way condescending. I love the owners. So I was in a hurry to get an oil change done and I remember this shop recommended by a co-worker. I have a 2012 Subaru Outback and pretty much know my car inside and out. I asked for an oil change and the person assisting me gave 2 options. His "computer" told him that my car only takes synthetic blend oil (FYI - it doesn't and the owner's manual actually states that conventional oil 5W - 30 is recommended). So he gives me 2 options, I can get a conventional oil change for $40 but since my car, per his computer, does not use conventional oil, he can do it as long as I pay cash and he doesn't give me a receipt for the service. His reasoning is that customers have returned to him and "told" him that he put a different oil than what is required by the manufacturer. hmmmmm. Or the other option is to pay $60 card/cash doesn't matter for a synthetic oil change. The oil change prices are somewhat in line with other oil changes (on the steep side. You can get a conventional oil change for about $25 to $30). So the puzzling thing really is why the lie? Most reputable oil change companies won't even blink when I ask for a conventional oil change for by subbie, but what kind of database is he working with that tells him that my card only uses synthetic oil. Of course illegitimate businesses want cash and no invoices because there is no paper trail! Anyway, my 2 cents worth. Okay. I read a lot of these reviews. Don and Agnew AutoCare are awesome! He is in a rush, but that's because he needs to be very efficient due to his lower prices. People complain about the high price of car repairs; then when shop like Don's comes along, they're not happy. Be happy, people! Don is awesome! He is honest and is one of the only mechanics that will recommend that you *not* do something when it's really unnecessary. He will also *not* break things that are not broken to make extra buck. Very fast service, came twice to fix the tire.

My Honda Pilot would not start due to a failed fuel pump. He was able to diagnose the issue quickly and source a part to get the car up and running. Full fuel pumps were backordered everywhere and he was able to source the pump portion separately for a quicker turnaround. I would definitely use them again. read more

It is difficult to find an honest and fair mechanic shops around, and A.A.C. will simply provide you with all that and much more. I just recently moved to Union City, but my loyalty to this shop just can't be broken because of the shop's great qualities. Honesty is the best policy. Don, the owner, will always tell you all the possible options to fix your car and keep you happy. He will not waste his man power and your hard earned money to fix something that just can't be fixed. Example, my wife's mustang was in desperate need of a head gasket. He took a look at it, made some calculations and told me to send the car over to "Cash for Clunkers." At first I felt offended and afraid that I couldn't manage to go home with a broken car to my wife, but he certainly gave me the proper advice that it was not worth the money to fix it. I appreciated his honesty and because of these experiences, I always come back. Don's prices are fair. He even throws in some free labor to lower down the cost of the repair. Went in for a smog, and he failed my 2016 Tacoma with 50k miles due to a "Leak" in the gasket. A week before doing smog I did a full inspection at the Toyota dealer and the truck had no issues. I took the truck back to the dealer and my mechanic and they also said truck had no leak. Agnew Autocare wanted to charge me close to $800 for "leak" repair. Got my car to verify the battery after I had to call my insurance to jumpstart my car due to inactivity. The mechanic was all over the map? He said the initial inspection is free and later told me he need to charge me $20 to recharge the battery and run some tests. When I came back, he literally got a device and told me that the probe is broken so he will not be able to run all the tests until next week and demanded I pay $20 before I can get my keys. When I asked for recommendations all he had to say was to buy a new battery from him, otherwise his job is done to diagnose the battery. Really bad experience and very rude. read more
