I asked the owner, Jin, if he knew how to do a Prius catalytic converter shield install, and he said he's never done it but is willing to give it a shot. An appointment was made (thanks for being flexible! I had to reschedule), and then after about half an hour I was back on the road with a Prius whose catalytic converter will (hopefully) not get stolen! He performed the work quicker than we both thought but did it with quality and thoroughness. He gave me a very fair price for the install and I am very happy with it all. First off let me mention that my BF is an extremely picky person when it comes to his car. Our friend that referred us to this shop, is just as difficult. We usually will make it a point to drive this car down to San Diego to let a specific specialized mechanic (who is also our friend) work on it. Again, trust issues mixed with extreme pickiness. But we're older now and time is of the essence, so we don't want to make that 10+ hr trip anymore. Jin was a referral from our friend and though this shop is pretty new, it doesn't mean the person working on it is new to the game. We initially brought it in to get it diagnosed for possible electrical drainage. We were finding ourselves dependent on a portable jumper (even though we bought a new battery) and had to leave the car almost plugged in at all times. We've done everything we possibly could and picked everyone's brain that we knew. Luckily it wasn't too long and Jin solved the issue. While working on the car, Jin noticed that the driver window wasn't closing all the way correctly and it left a small gap. We didn't mind leaving the car with Jin so he can take his time handling the issue when he was available, since it wasn't a quick fix. I highly recommend Jin. He is meticulous and he takes his time but does everything in a reasonable and timely manner. read more

I first met Jinhee when he gave a free diagnostic test to my car. Everyone else i called are charging $$. He had me from then on. Today, i got a flat tire. He sent Jack (friendly, empathetic, and really nice) to my office to check if it can be repaired. Then sent towing to my office. The whole nine yards! Texted me it is ready with the new tire. Jin is Awesome!! He fixed the Air Conditioning in my new to me 2014 BMW 535i for a fraction the cost of what another shop named Stress Free Auto Care in San Jose was quoting me. Basically they said the AC Evaporator was leaking which required removal of the Dashboard, replacing the Evaporator, and recharging with R134a costing over $5500. This is a lot of money to dish out to have my AC working again, so I wanted a second opinion. I was referred to Jin at Root Autoworks. After meeting Jin, I shared the quote that Stress Free Auto had given me and Jin told me he would do that service for $3800. This is a definite savings from $5500, but in his diagnosis found no such leak!! He performed a vacuum test which had held, recharged the system, and now my AC is freezing cold and only charged me $220. Thank you Jin for being honest! Called in the same day and asked if they could look at my ac to see why it's not working. Jin looked and diagnosed the problem, no leaks just hot air that was trapped in the unit which would cause the ac to blow hot air. I GOT COLD AIR NOW!!! It was a $205but gave me a discount which came out to be $190 in total. Not only he gave me a discount he wanted to look at the tires because it looked low. He found a leak in the tire for free for me. Jin is a great! Would recommend for all work. Defiantly going back. read more

Jin and his crew were amazing! I had an exposed wire in my main engine room wire harness of my car that also damaged my battery sensor. This caused a warning light to come on on the dashboard for an "auto idle system problem see dealer". The dealership I normally took it to heard my issue and charged $250 just to do a diagnostic. They were able to clear the light and replace a fuse that got shorted out but saw the exposed wire and suggested I replace the entire harness. With parts and labor they wanted to charge me nearly 6 thousand dollars! I immediately declined as I was in disbelief and just payed the original $250. I wanted to seek a second opinion. I looked around on google and finally came across Root Autoworks which had nothing but 5 star reviews and mentioning how great the owner (Jin) was. I decided to give Jin a call, he heard me out on my issue, and said he wanted to take a look at my car and take it from there. I scheduled an appointment a few days later and within 5 minutes of meeting Jin I already felt much more calm and comfortable than I ever did during my experiences at the dealership. Jin and his crew (Jack and Jesus) looked at my car and let me know that they could repair the wire and put it in an order to replace the damaged battery sensor I had. The sensor itself was kind of pricy but it was an OEM part and my car is relatively new as well (2022 Honda Accord Sport). I scheduled another appointment 2 days later because that's when the part showed up and Jin and his crew got to work. They said it would take about 40 minutes to finish but I believe they finished a little sooner than that! Jin provided me with a few spare fuses and also topped off my coolant as courtesy during the multi point inspection of my car. Once the repairs were done they used their code reader to ensure the electrical system in my car was running fine which it was and no codes/lights popped up again! I paid a very fair price when it was all said and done ($600) and I will most definitely be coming back to Jin and his crew at Root Autoworks for all of my future car needs! read more

Jin (the owner) is probably the best mechanic I've had the opportunity to interact with - very knowledgeable AND super friendly. He has been working on my 2007 BMW 335i for the past 2 years (since he was working at a different shop), and every time he exceeded my expectations. He's fixed everything from my headlights, spark plugs, engine misfires, and even simple things like oil changes. I am very particular about repairs on my car due to it being an old German car, and Jin is one of the few people I trust to touch it.
