I've dined at Agora Taverna and ordered home deliveries from there many times. The food is above average. However, I've always enjoyed their Greek salad, which is excellent, with fresh, ripe tomatoes and a generous serving of very good feta cheese. The service is professional and the ambience is amenable to reasonably comfortable dining. However, this restaurant is now too expensive, relative to what it offers. This is the main reason I've ceased patronizing it. People who have accompanied me to Agora Taverna have expressed similar views of its fare and of its high prices. read more

I went there with my wife for dinner. Price is expensive and we wait for our food very long time and that time we were only costumers. Server looking to us like doesn't care anything and the worst part is he got wrong order, we ordered Mousaka but he brought Crab Cake, the price almost 85% difference and we still paid it because we don't know and we ate it. The menu has less dishes to offer, the brunch was very poor and the good service they had totally disappeared. Yesterday we went to Agora after a long time. We were craving for the appetizer octopus which in my opinion is one of the best in Queens, it was just as how we had it last time, very tender and delicious. The waiter suggested a fish for two, they had A Branzino for two people that was cooked grilled with olive oil and fresh herbs, the fish was so fresh and so delicious that I will definitely ordered it if they have it again. I tried the passion fruit cosmo which was very refreshing for a hot summer day like yesterday. When I first entered I was pleasantly surprised by the calm, refreshing and clean atmosphere/interior. The service was good, they were very attentive but our main dish (the fish) took over 25 minutes to come out. The food was okay but too wayyyy overpriced for what is it. Agora Tavera I've been coming to Agora for many years now. It's the go to Greek spot in Forest Hills. They have a very small bar area which I'll sit at just for some appetizers and sangria. I really enjoy their sangria. If we're really hungry we'll sit down at one of there tables for dinner or brunch. My usual goto items are a large Greek salad for an appetizer and for my entrée I'll get the chicken souvlaki with lemon potatoes. They give a large portion and I always leave with a doggie bag. The meals are always consistent and good. I've never had a bad meal here. The wait staff are friendly and your never left unattended. It's a cute and cozy perfect date night or girls night out kinda place. It's one of my favorite spots to catch up with all my Forest Hills friends and eat some good food and enjoy a jug of sangria. read more

Came here for dinner a little while ago. While their drinks offerings were pretty extensive, I thought that their food offerings were a little on the scant side. I ended up getting their falafel appetizer and a greek salad, and the fiancé got their fried filet of sole. The food was fine, albeit not very memorable. This place is a little pricey, so maybe it's not a place you'd go to too often if you're trying to cut back on your spending in general. I was not impressed with the gyro that I got from here. It seemed more like frozen gyro meat that I would buy from Trader Joe's rather then the fresh meat that is cut off the rotating grill thingy. The taste was good but they only gave me like 4 strips of meat in the gyro, which was really disappointing. My wife ordered a chicken souvlaki (grilled cubes) and her food was great (I tried it and we both thought it was great). I am really surprised how lack luster my pita sandwich was compared to hers (as far as size, quality, taste and everything else). My gyro sandwich earns 2 stars, her sandwich was 4.5 stars. This time, service was somewhat unprofessional: we sat down and literally a second later the server asked if we have our order ready to be placed. We asked for few minutes and she did. The food at Agora is definitely more authentic than most other restaurants in the area. The grilled octopus is grilled perfectly, not burnt, juicy, tender, seasoned well. The lemon potatoes are amazing, a mixture of lemon juice, zest, and olive oil. The entree's are fairly large but also packed with flavor. Where do I begin? It was all GREAT!! Nice, clean & comfortable restaurant. Parking very close by. The lovely chunky wood farmhouse table, the beautiful distressed chairs, the yummy cocktails and wines, wonderful appetizers, the amazing food, huge portions, delicious & tasty!! Great find in Forest Hills! I had the Greek salad which was delicious and flavorful, and the Filet of Sole which was cooked perfectly. It basically melted in my mouth. Fish is very easy to overcook so I give them a lot of credit for cooking it so perfectly. My husband got the branzini which was delicious as well and also cooked perfectly. Not to mention, their lemon potatoes must be signature because they are amazing!! And the free bread they give you is hot, fresh, and drizzled with yummy seasoned olive oil. What a great place for dinner. (I wouldn't recommend it for brunch though; I tried that and did not like it at all. Stick to dinner here and go for the seafood. They do very well with that!) I'm on a budget so I wouldn't come to Agora for a typical dinner or lunch, but my friend wanted to try it for her birthday so here we went. I really like the environment, the painted blue doors were very welcoming. There is a nice round table towards the kitchen and it seemed very cozy for the big party sitting there. For a Sunday night, there was a lot of people, even when we left around 10:00 PM. My friends aren't really into seafood but that was ok. The complimentary bread was kind of bland and another user said it came with a dip. Ours did not. Just maybe a hint of olive oil drizzled on the side. Not much at all. For apps we ordered the agora chips which were huge and delicious. It's eggplant and zucchini in almost a tempura like batter served I guess with their version of tzatziki dip but unlike most Greek places, the dip had the texture of cream cheese. It was very good. We also ordered the spanikopita which was good as well. For dinner I ordered the fried sardines which had the same batter as the agora chips. It was light and good. For the side I ordered horta (green vegetable, slightly bitter). My friends split a chicken kebab with lemon potatoes and an arugula salad with feta which was really great. My family knows the owner personally which is what led me to checking out the spot when I moved to Forest Hills January 2021. You will pay a bit much for a restaurant in Forest Hills & the quality of the food is worth it! Not your normal fast food Greek spot which is what you normally find a lot of in Queens. This has an NYC/Williamsburg/Astoria type of vibe to it. Even the interior design, seats & tables as well as staff are aesthetically more elegant then the normal restaurants you'll find catering to Greek or any culture in the area of Forest Hills. The octopus & salmon were great! I would recommend more vegan options as this is important to me & many who are health conscious. I would give 10 stars! The staff was friendly and attentive. They brought out hot bread in olive oil, it was good. We ordered hummus and pita for appetizer. The best I have had. We split a salad, even the tomato's were fresh! We probably should have stopped there but noooo! I ordered the crab cake and my co-worker ordered skirt steak and we shared. If you like breading in your crab cakes, that is not the case here, this was great lumps of crab! Really good, one of the best I have had also. The skirt steak was prepared as ordered, and tender, very tender, both dishes were served with generous portions of green beans and potatoes. I'm kind of shocked at the amount of mediocre reviews. I've been dining at Agora for over a year now. I'll admit that I too once had a bad experience with the filet mingon but the manager made it right the next time. I typically see him when I stop by, Peter; he's great at catering to his customers. Remembers everyone by name and usually comps either an appetizer, dessert or drink. I've only gone at dinner and I love the Greek fries. My dishes I usually get are the broiled flounder, veal shank with orzo or lobster pasta. I know the place is Greek but this dish is just loaded up with chunks of lobster and in a light tomato and white wine sauce. Maybe I'm just fortunate on the days I go but I have nothing bad to say. My BF and I care here for Sunday brunch, so we ordered Greek Sausage and Baked Clams as appetizer from the regular menu, omelets from the brunch menu. Before our food came, they served us fresh muffins, and sadly these muffins were better than their actual food. The Greek sausage was good but little pricy. My bf was very unhappy about the baked clams because the taste / smell was funny, and there were too many rocks inside, I feel they didn't clean the clams at all. But at least they look good in my picture. The omelettes were very very dry compared to other places that I've been to in the city, kinda bad, both us were very disappointed, and little pricy.
