I found Ahadu Ethiopian via the Seattle Met Magazine top 50 list. Located in the Northgate neighborhood, they are one of at least three Ethiopian restaurants within a street corner. The server greeted us kindly with the QR code to scan for the menu. The restaurant is modest, older, and smaller, with several tables inside and outside. We were one of two parties in the restaurant, so it wasn't busy. I must admit I was surprised to see so few people there. The proprietor came out to greet us during our meal; she is a very kind and warm lady. In short, I strongly recommend this restaurant. The Food: Ahadu Combo, $43 - 5 Stars Menu: Key Sir, Atter, Misir, Kitfo, Weta Geba, Key Wet, Gomen, Ayeb, Mitmita, Awaze. Three full size injera breads are included. When ordering, we asked our server if this is enough for two people. She replied that it feeds 3 to 4 people. We smiled knowing we are big eaters. We almost finished! We took a small portion home. This has an impressive amount of food. The lentil and the split peas are filling in addition to the three beef proteins. By now, we have eaten enough Ethiopian food that we can tell when we are 'more' or 'less' satisfied after each meal. They are never bad, since the flavors are so good. While I can't precisely describe it for this meal, this combo is very, very satisfying, compared to all others in recent memory. Their food has a slight spicy kick, which is the traditional flavors of Ethiopia. We enjoyed literally everything in this combo. The flavors truly complimenting each other as we switched between dishes. I happened to randomly check the TGTG app on a Friday morning and saw Ahadu pop up a couple of key wot bags. End of day food for 66% off certainly entices me to try a new place and cuisine! I haven't had much Ethiopian food before, only twice and the last time was years ago. When we walked in, the place was completely empty, but the cashier greeted us warmly like we were regulars. He was super friendly and talkative; this seems like a great family owned establishment. The food took about ten minutes to arrive. Key wot ($6.99 via TGTG, normally $21) - This meal is HEFTY, weighing in at almost 2.5 pounds. It includes a piece of injera, folded up on top, then another piece underneath, acting almost like a box for the key wot beef stew. The stew has deep, concentrated savoriness, like it's been stewed for hours upon hours and reduced. It's fragrant and has a spice that starts to build and build, warming the entire mouth. There are plenty of small chunks of beef, and even beef bone. In addition to the key wot, they give two small sides of gomen and ayeb. The gomen consists of finely chopped collards, a pretty simple dish with plenty of vegetal flavor. The ayeb is like a cottage cheese, creamy and milky. It's a dairy element that helps with the heat of the dish. As we were leaving, we saw some people, who I think are Ethiopian, come in and order just a bunch of injera. The Bite of Seattle started at 11 o'clock Friday morning. Unfortunately they were still setting up at 11:45. When I came back later in the day I had the Triple Combo. Wow, was that a mistake. However, I don't think anything else they had would've been any better. The problem was not the vegetables. They were actually pretty good. The problem was with injera which tasted very pungent. I've had injera many times before but it was homemade and it was very good. In fact, I loved it. This however, came ready made in large packets from some distributor which may well be the problem. Don't let the exterior of this place dissuade you, their food is delicious and they are very warm and welcoming. We got the Ahadu combination as it had a great variety of different offerings and split it between two people. We couldn't finish all of it and not for a lack of wanting to! Very tasty Ethiopian food about on par with the high standard of Seattle Ethiopian cuisine. They have a veggie combo offer that allows you to pick any 4 dishes to $20 (plus tax and tip). I got the shiro (chickpea), tekel gomen (potato, carrot, cabbage), misir wot (spiced red lentil), and gomen (collard/spinach), which comes with injera on the side. We stumbled upon this place driving around looking for something that called to us, and wow was I glad this is where we stopped. The employees were so friendly. There's no paper menus but the QR code clearly defines each dish. We got the vegetarian platter which came with a piece of injera for each of us, a glass bottle of water (no ice) with 2 cups, no utensils (per norm) and when I asked about each dish the super friendly guy there explained each. The cook was really cool too. The bathroom was tiny, clean, and I the peeks I got of the kitchen showed a clean environment. The complexities and layers of flavor in each dish was just lovely. You get everything in the menu I screen shotted for the largest veggie dish for $25 - which is a SUPER reasonable deal and fed us both with a snack for later, not a large amount of leftovers but a good snack. I had no clue collard & spinach went so well together but I'd eat Gomen at home all the time if I knew how to make it. The Shiro was very much a hummus reminiscent dip but with a very different flavor. My least fave was the Key Sir and that's just a personal beet thing but we still smashed it. I originally had planned to go to a different spot, but they were temporarily closed so I ended up deciding on here, and to my surprise they were actually next door restaurants. I was shocked at how many Ethiopian restaurants there are in one little cluster in Northgate. The ahadu combo was recommended to us which was great because we got a mix of both meat and veggie. A couple of the meat sides were spicy and everything had great flavor. The service was nice and helpful and the restaurant was comfortable. It always trips me out a little bit how often you see Ethiopian businesses all grouped together. They really make it into a community the way they set up shop in the same spots. This is awesome, except I kinda feel like I am leaving one favorite out in the cold when I eat at another one next door. That's my own weirdness, though. Eating here is nothing but great. It's kind of a rickety building, kind of an awkward intersection or two on your way here. There's decent parking, and a little covered porch out front with a couple tables. Inside there are a few simple tables, a counter in back, and a flat screen that's probably playing music. We watched a Jimmy Cliff concert while we had a late lunch yesterday. They're right out to greet you when you show up, cheerful and friendly, with a little swingtop bottle of ice water for you. The menu is a few pages long, but we always opt for the combo at any Ethiopian place, and this visit was no exception. I noticed on one of the back pages of the menu that you can order a variety of condiments with your meal, but the first serving of them is free. I didn't ask if we'd be getting condiments, and started thinking I'd have to order them when the food came. This turned out to be the coolest surprise we've had at an Ethiopian joint--they automatically brought out a little plate with tin bowls of mustard, a berbere sauce, and a powdered blend that seemed kinda berbere-ish itself. The injera is just what you want, showing that whiff of sourdough, with a great soft consistency. The vegetables all really shone here--awesome yellow lentils, couple kinds of beans, and even some roasted, lightly-seasoned purple beets. The usual spinach and dry white cheese filled up one corner. The meats are all solid; one of the beef dishes was a bit tough but had great flavor. We ended up demolishing everything, including every ounce of injera that was under the food. We were full all night even though we ate mid-afternoon! Prices here are very fair, and we'll be back often. read more

Flavors were fantastic; tart crepe with spicy meat and veggies. Very unique and flavorful. Service was slow; it took them quite a while to bring food. There's a lot of Ethiopian restaurants in this one block and since I've been to all of them, I can tell you this place is the best for meat. It makes sense because I think this place doubles as a butchery and know the owner next door is vegetarian. The items on the meat combo are some of the best ways you'll get served beef. The flavors really penetrate to the center of every chunk. However, jebena does better on the non meat dishes and their prices are quite a bit cheaper for the combo plates ($23 vs $35). Either way you can't go wrong but jebena is easier for to go to frequently just because of price. If I'm really in the mood for just big plates of meat then I'll come here and order the meat combo. read more

What a huge disappointment! The server was not friendly, and the food was horrible. No side dishes, just a bowl of dried chewy meat. A terrible boring salad. And to make matters worse when taking the 60$ of food home for the dog and chickens, the plastic container had a hole in the bottom and leaked grease on to my car floor mat, thanks I've never been here before but love Ethiopean food, definitely won't be back! There are better options in Seattle. The injera was good and very sour, which usually is a sign that they didn't mix in too much wheat flour. However we ordered both the filet mignon tibs and regular beef tibs and both were INCREDIBLY stringy and tough, like, I have serious doubts that the filet mignon was actually that (or it was made of ... the end pieces of various cuts of filet mignon?). We had to spend time flossing our kids' teeth after dinner to get all the residue out! Their berbere blend is on the *very* spicy side compared to Jebena's, so if you ask for a dish to be prepared mild (vs regular or spicy), then it will have very little flavor because they have to leave out a lot more berbere in order to keep the spiciness level low. read more

We eat Ethiopian food often & have been to virtually all of them in the Seattle area. We got the veggie combo and it was very delicious...every one of the items was perfectly spicy and yummy. Our only complaint was the ridiculously high cost!! The combo was about double the price of all the other restaurants and the portion was less. For that reason, we'll probably not return. I'm so in love with their Geba Weta Tibs (medium rare) with MITMITA!! I order from them practically once a week to satisfy my meat craving. They always server fresh meat. Their meat delivery days are Thursdays and Saturdays. The beautiful owner lady is a darling. She's so warm and welcoming. Coming here always makes me feel that I'm well taken cared of. I usually have it to go, so I can pair my meat with rice at home. It's my preferred match since I am Asian lol. The mitmita is a spicy power that definitely enhance the taste of fresh meat! We ordered the meat combo and the vegetarian combo. Both were very delicious. The food had a lot of spice and flavor which I love! The vegetarian combo was actually one of the best ones I have tried, probably just as good as the meat. I usually prefer the meat dishes over the vegetable ones but found myself eating both equally. I was also surprised that there was no lamb dish on the menu. But the beef was excellent. My only gripe was they did not give us enough injera. I recommend ordering extra. I think their injera is less sour than the other two Ethiopian restaurant in the area. I prefer more sour. We will likely come back again. The food was great. read more

This place is legit. They serve tere siga, raw meat because they're a full butcher house. Probably the only place in the country to do this! You'll have to fly to Ethiopia to get that kind of exotic food. -1 only because they never pick up the phone! And closes randomly. 8/10 we get the answering machine (even when they are open. This Yelp post was for a mid-afternoon visit on Sunday 6/18/17. Ahadu Ethiopian Restaurant is an absolute hole in the wall in the Northgate/Pinehurst neighborhood. Only a few 2, 3, 4 top tables. It seems the kind proprietor wears many hats: hostess, cook, wait person, expeditor, and busser. Fortunately during our visit there was a 4 top of men, who ended up sharing injera, a meat entree, and salad. Lots of conversation and checking of their smart phones. And towards the end of our visit, a pair of females shared a veggie platter, a meat entree, salad, and injera. There was also some intermittent takeout and delivery orders. The celebrant ordered one each of the Veggie platter ($16.99) and Meat platter ($13.99) all arranged on a huge injera lined platter. Usually, that's plenty for up to two to four people, since portions are hardy. The Homie selected Merek ($13.99), beef soup with herbs, spices, and amped up with some berbere. The proprietor has three boys and gave The Homie a freebie Kitfo sandwich, normally $8.99. Big roll filked with seasoned, spicy meat. Usually, he avoids Ethiopian food. But this visit definitely changed his mind! I also ordered Merek....which I overindulged in berbere. Tender beef in a flavorful soup, just watch out for bone bits. Soon my eyes were watering, nose running, lips tingling, but tasty. I finished my bowl with injera and snagging bites from the other platter. Wish we had the full amount of injera and salad provided and copious chilled water, but like I mentioned this was a restaurant run by one woman. I am so happy I found this place the owner is very nice and the food is so flavorful and delicious!! I ordered the veggie combo and do not regret it. Based on the veggie combo I ordered for delivery via Grubhub. This was outstanding. The injera tasted different, more flavorful than I've had elsewhere, and I read in Eater that Ahadu's owner has been making the injera from scratch. The lentils were flavorful and well-seasoned, but the veggie sides stole the show, especially the greens, the green beans and the beets with potato. This is the closest Ethiopian restaurant to me and I will definitely be ordering from here again. read more

Served on injera with a second piece included, it was a very generous portion even for two people. We can definitely squeeze another meal out of the leftovers. If you don't order the plate, some items are better than others and on their own I might not order them. The standouts on the plate were the Shiro and the Miser Wet. Based on a sample set of seven other Ethiopian restaurants in the Seattle metro area I'm of the belief that Ahadu belongs at the top. The dishes are distinctly flavored, bright and full of life. The spices taste quite fresh and you can tell they take the presence of spice seriously. Cloves, cinnamon, etc. were all very much there, but by no means were they overwhelming. "Harmonious" is the appropriate descriptor. The green bean dish was off the charts. It makes use of roasted garlic and I could eat it daily without tiring of it. You can also tell they take the craft of beef-based cuisine seriously. I loved all the texture varieties I sampled in the various meat dishes. Ahadu is absolutely in the rotation now. read more
