The quality of the fish is above average and each time I order food from here everything tastes the same - super consistent!!! I really do enjoy their garlic ahi salad. The spicy ahi option is yummy, but as it gets spicier as you eat, I cannot finish the whole thing. LOL - my mouth is on fiyah halfway through!!! SO GLAD that there's an Ahi & Vegetable closer to where I live... This location is conveniently located in Ala Moana at their new eatery spot known as The Lanai (old Shirokiya location). Parking is abundant and The Lanai is nicely located near the enter and exit ramps of the mall. The Lanai has many brand new tables and chairs that you could choose from to enjoy your meal. I've also seen patrons studying or playing home brought board games, so the atmosphere is very chill. A poke bowl from here will cost you $11, a sashimi bowl will cost you $12, and a bento would cost you $13. All bowls and bentos have the option of white, brown, or sushi rice, and each comes with a side miso soup. I highly recommend getting the bentos for the best value. My favorite bento is their bento B7 (spicy ahi, spicy salmon, and ahi poke). Substitutions are possible with no added cost! I alter this bento B7 by swapping the spicy ahi with hamachi sashimi (4pc). Such a deal. I've also noticed that they sometimes have assorted sushi/bentos at a slightly discounted price in their display case. Nice grab and go options if you're ever in a hurry. Delicious fresh and generously sliced fish dishes. They offer sashimi with salad ("vegetable" choices) along with rice dishes ("donburi" choices), and even bento dishes. I usually stick with the vegetable choices. My sashimi special was delicious (see pic). Service quick and friendly, this is definitely going to be a regular spot for me. Prices are on the higher side (13-17$ for the sashimi choices, 11-17$ for the donburi choices) but in mywell worth the quality. Most of the times I've gone there, service was quick and hassle free. This most recent visit though, (last week) I think there was a mix up in my order in that the front staff didn't communicate my order to the back staff. I ended up waiting 30 mins for my order after I asked to have them check what's the delay. This is the only reason for minus 1 star. read more

They only have the mushy sort of spicy ahi instead of the normal cubed spicy ahi, which is a let down. Ok... so I recently found out that Ahi and Vegetable is under new ownership. Ahi and Vegetable used to be my absolute go to place for lunch, for dinner, for any meals in between. I loved both Ala Moana and Dillingham locations. So now to the meat of why I don't care for them any more. The quality of the fish, the cut and the color of the fish was SOOO AMAZING. But ever since the new ownership I've noticed a decrease in quality and an increase in price. The fish used to be bright red and so good it just melts in your mouth, now it's brown and sometimes chewy. I'm not sure if it's also the way they cut the fish now(?) I also used to love their sushi rice, now... it tastes like it has been made the day before and it just tastes like recycled rice. Some people, like myself, don't like ginger. I asked for no ginger extra choy sum and the worker told me that since they have new owners, they no longer do substitutions. This company used to be all about their customers, now it just seems like it's just about the profitability $$$. From other reviews, the cash and card charges are also ridiculous. Not really sure now days if I'd make this place a necessary place to eat. It's so sad that something that was 10 stars literally dropped to 2 because of new ownership. I'd write a review about the Dillingham location too, but that seems to be just as bad. read more

Along with this deal, they have a regular menu you can choose from, whether it's sushi bento, poke bowl, salad with poke, etc. The poke bowl I bought included crab, salmon poke, seaweed salad, and some kind of spicy fish. I am so disgusted. I ordered take out from this place and was so excited because I LOVE fish. This place is terrible. I'm easily satisfied but this raw fish had a really weird texture. Way too much rice and to top it off, I FOUND A ROACH INSIDE MY bok Choy. Honestly, I used to eat from here at least once a week but lately the taste of their poke doesn't taste as good. The seasoning of the spicy ahi is a lot bland and not flavorful as before. They used to give out the soups which they don't. They stopped giving ginger. When I got my poke with sushi rice, the rice was so cold as if they kept it inside the refrigerator. It feels like they are penny pinching for everything. At this point, there are so many other poke places in Hawaii that are fresh and delicious. This place needs to step up their game. read more

This used to be one of my favorite place to grab a fast healthy lunch or dinner . I eat the salad sashimi . I usually go like 1-2 times a week . But I notice , some of you might notice too, the sashimi used to be big slices , now it's getting smaller and smaller and smaller . I don't know why you guys are doing this , to save a little , you will make customers look else where . Not only were the slices way bigger but I might be wrong but I thought there was more pieces before . I just ordered the salmon / hamachi sashimi salad .. there's only 6 salmons and 5 hamachis . Since the opening of The Lanai inside Ala Moana Center's old Shirokiya unit, it's been great trying some of the new places. I hear good things about Ahi & Vegetable from my happy half Alexander. I was ecstatic after learning the third location opened near my work. Ahi & Vegetable is located immediately next to Teppanyaki Farmer on the back corner of The Lanai. The Lanai is on the mountainside of Ala Moana Center across from Macy's. Ahi & Vegetable is a great addition to this food court putting a variety in the choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don't know about everyone else but I can certainly eat fish in all my meals of the day. Fresh fish is served coming from United Fish Agency (Honolulu Fish Auction) which inspects the fish making seafood standards and safety are met. The menu consist of ahi poke bowls, kimchee ahi, spicy and Hamachi (yellowtail), salmon, sashimi platters. A variety of donburi's are numbered according to the options. Not a fan of raw fish? Bento specials are also among the options with some premade bentos under the front heating lamps and sushi in the fridge. Rice choices are between white, brown and sushi rice. Dressing options is either mild peanut butter, ranch, spicy or vinaigrette. Prices is a steady $11 for all poke bowls, $12 to $16 for sashimi platters, and Donburi's are from $8 to $12. Bentos, donburi's and poke bowls are served with miso at no extra charge. I'm a big fan of Yellowtail (Hamachi) and had to order the Hamachi Poke Bowl (#7). All bowls can also be ordered as a Poke Bowl Salad vs. ordering rice. I have to say that I am a fan of their Hamachi Bowl and the miso. It's got to be in Ahi & Vegetables secret sauce because it's got that extra touch of love in that bowl. The Hamachi is not slimy or fishy and is super fresh. The miso soup was perfect in the end. I didn't have to wait long for my order to come during lunch hour which was perfect for a working individual like me. Ahi & Vegetable have me sold from their Hamachi Bowl. I'm very much looking forward to trying their bentos and sashimi on the next visit. I always wanted to try this place since it opened at Alamoana @the Lanai food court. Today I decided to give it to try and this place did not disappoint me at all. I ordered the Ahi Steak, combo plate of hamachi and salmon poke. The Ahi Steak was cooked perfectly with delicious garlic sauce garnished on top along with ginger pickles. The poke was good, a little lack in flavor but still fresh and yummy. Prices was reasonable and portion was huge, the Ahi Steak was $12 and combo poke was about $13. We tried the ahi and salmon nigiri and sashimi bento which came with miso soup. We really enjoyed the bento. The salmon was like butter in my mouth and the rice didn't fall apart when I dipped it in the shoyu/wasabi sauce. The slices of fish were nice and thick. I was so happy to see that this place opened at Ala Moana (because we always go to the mall). They have a great selection of sashimi, poke, and bentos. We were just at The Lanai this past weekend and I opted to get my food from Ahi & Vegetable. I got the B2 bento, which is a nigiri bento with 2 pieces ahi, 2 pieces, salmon, 2 pieces spicy tuna, and 2 pieces spicy salmon. It was surprisingly filling and the fish was incredibly fresh! It comes with a bowl of soup too. For $13, it's reasonable and a great way to satisfy my sushi cravings. My husband frequents the Kalihi location and he always orders the spicy ahi bowl for $11. Now that this place is at the mall, I will definitely be eating here more often! read more

Updated Review: Decided to give this place another try and NOT get the Spicy Ahi this time. I ordered the Spicy Salmon Bowl. They chop it up like regular poke instead of how they pound? the Spicy Ahi. It was much more satisfying, tasted clean and fresh. I think I like a little stronger flavored sauce or more sauce maybe? I was at the new Food Court at the Diamond Head side of Ala Moana Center just below Lucky Strike and decided to get a take out of assorted sushi from Ahi and Vegetable. I read the sign that said the Ahi is always fresh and never frozen so was eager to try it. I was surprised it the sushi came with a container of hot tastey clear soup. I took it home and had it later that night for dinner. I chose the 4 Piece Ahi Nigiri Sushi with 4 pieces of reverse roll Cali Rolls. The Ahi tasted fresh and had a texture to it that was very fresh. I noticed that hey used actual real crab in the Cali Rolls unlike other take out Sushi places. Appearance and taste of the sushi is very good and I will definitely be back in the near future to sample some of their other offerings. read more

The first time they accidentally made just the regular Bento B2 and realized their mistake instantly and gave the order to someone else who ordered the same Bento but regular, and then gave me a Bento B2 with all ahi...at that point I felt so bad that I didn't really want to make a fuss about it but my friend encourgaed me to ask them again since I was really craving salmon! Such a disappointment as I read the previous reviews and was feeling hopeful. I got the bento box which had ahi sashimi and salmon sushi. The fish was chewy and not the soft and buttery fish that I was hoping for. Well I can scratch this place off my list.... next time I will just wait until Rinka, Akasaka, or Yanagi reopens for dinner. read more
